In the South of Córdoba province, the simplification of agricultural production systems has increased the risk of wind erosion, due to changes in the dynamics of vegetation cover and land use. Therefore, our objectives were to evaluate the soil erodible fraction by wind in response to different management practices and environments in southern Córdoba province and to relate it to soil properties. For them, in three macro-environments (West, Central and East southern Córdoba) under four soil uses: Forest (P), Mixed (M), Agriculture without peanut crop (A0) and Agriculture with peanut crop (A1), undisturbed samples were taken for the determination of the wind erodible fraction (FE) using a rotary sieve. Additional samples were taken for the determination of organic matter (OM) and texture. There was interaction between soil use and the macro-environment for FE. In West and East southern Cordoba, FE was similar among soil uses with values above the threshold in the former and below the threshold in the latter. In the Central macro-region, FE of A1 was higher, with values above 40%. A linear negative relation was observed between FE and OM, whereas a linear positive relation was established between FE and sand content. In soils with above 70% sand, the use of service crops is necessary to control erosion, while this threshold is reduced to 60% for those sequences with peanut crop. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
