Ramón Illán Bacca is one of the most representative novelists of the second half of the twentieth century of the Colombian Caribbean region for his humor inclusion, the record of popular media culture and the urban Caribbean area. This study analyzes how Bacca's representations of the Chinese, both in his newspaper articles and in his novels Deborah Kruel (2001) and La mujer barbuda (2011), reproduce the orientalist and sinophobic stereotypes of the Chinese as an inadmissible Otherness within the project of the Colombian universal Caribbean. This study shows the limits of the inclusion of difference in this cosmopolitan universalistic ideal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
