Cardiovascular disorders are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. To reduce cardiovascular risk, it is essential to address modifiable risk factors through healthy lifestyle changes. In this context, mobile applications have emerged as a promising tool in the prevention and control of these risk factors. This review study examines the role of mobile applications in decreasing cardiovascular risk. Comprehensive searches were conducted in specialized databases, and four relevant clinical trials were selected. The characteristics of mobile applications varied in each study. Some provided information on diet and physical activity, while others offered risk factor tracking and reminders. However, the validation of these applications was limited in most cases. Regarding the effects on cardiovascular risk, the results were mixed. Some studies found significant reductions in systolic blood pressure, glucose, and waist circumference, as well as improvements in physical activity and treatment adherence. However, consistent changes in cholesterol, diabetes control, smoking cessation, or cardiovascular events were not observed. Although mobile applications show potential in reducing cardiovascular risk by providing information and support, further research and validation are needed to optimize their effectiveness. It is necessary to tailor these applications to individual needs and ensure their scientific backing to achieve more consistent and beneficial outcomes in the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases.
