Professional teaching is key to ensuring optimum and inclusive education, with information and computing technologies (ICTs) among the ways of achieving this challenge, along with the necessary skills to exploit them. This study aims to understand the level of digital skills of educators at vocational training centres in Spain. The study describes, compares and analyses the responses of 47.11% of the population to a validated ad hoc questionnaire with a reliability of α = .81. A descriptive, correlational and Bayesian network data study was developed using the SPSS Statistics 22 and OpenMarkov programs. The results show that the sample has user-level digital skills, mostly acquired through self-teaching and attending conferences. Furthermore, the most innovative resources and tools are poorly integrated into professional teaching, with specific teaching platforms and programs being the most unknown. In conclusion, administrations must face this challenge by offering permanent training programs to improve digital skills and, as consequence, improve the integration of technological resources as tools for a more accessible and inclusive education. Contextualization: The analysis of genetic diversity is essential to preserve and adequately harness genetic resources, both plant and animal, and it is transcendental for developing selection and improvement strategies to obtain promising materials. Knowledge gap: There are few studies of characterization and analysis reported of genetic variability for mulberry Morus spp. in Colombia and need to be developed in order to provide information that enables refining and optimizing the management, use, and conservation of the available germplasm, contributing to the recovery and harnessing of these genetic resources' potential. Purpose: The research aimed to genetically characterize the mulberry, Morus spp., collection of the Cauca region sericulture project using microsatellite markers. Methodology: 36 accessions belonging to the mulberry collection conserved at the Centro de Estudios Vegetales La Rejoya (Center for Plant Studies La Rejoya in English) of Universidad del Cauca were evaluated using ten microsatellites fluorescently labeled. The diversity and genetic structure parameters were evaluated. Additionally, the genetic relationships were determined through a cluster analysis. Results and conclusions: 49 alleles were detected, with a mean PIC of 0.57, indicating the use of polymorphic and informative markers. The population structure analysis with the Bayesian (STRUCTURE v 2.3.4) and grouping methods (Neighbor- joining and PCoA) indicated three discrete population groups with significant genetic differentiation of 22% (AMOVA - Fst; p<0.001). It highlighted the finding of nineteen different genotypes, suggesting the presence of a high number of duplicate materials that will have to be evaluated for the possible elimination of redundant resources in the germplasm bank. Despite initial attempts to apply machine learning to archaeology dating back to the late 1990s, it was not until 2019 that its use began to become widespread. What advantages does this methodology have over previous methods? Can it be applied to all relevant fields of study? The work uses computational learning techniques (machine learning) to estimate school risk during the first three years of the trajectory in primary education of a cohort of Uruguayan students. We use three analysis techniques (logistic regression, Bayesian networks, and classification trees) to identify the risk of school trajectories based on the repetition of at least one year, based on a set of factors before the transition to the first year of primary school. These factors range from the students' sociosanitary conditions at their birth to their family and educational situation at the end of their pre-primary schooling. In particular, the analysis focuses on the predictive power of the skills captured by the Early Childhood Assessment (EIT) that is applied close to the end of initial education, around five years of age. The results suggest that the skills captured by EIT manage to identify in advance the majority of children with educational risk. The levels of precision and sensitivity of the models that include this factor show the potential of early warning systems to detect and prevent situations of "school failure". Se analizan las redes de tráfico de la Quebrada de Humahuaca en tiempos del "fenómeno Isla", evaluando críticamente el protagonismo atribuido a Tiwanaku en su organización. Con este fin se presentan las investigaciones realizadas en Muyuna —uno de los principales sitios de la época en la Quebrada— ofreciendo información novedosa sobre contextos domésticos y funerarios, economía y modo de vida. Un análisis bayesiano de todas las dataciones disponibles para el componente Isla lo ubican entre fines del siglo once y comienzos del siglo catorce dC. Estos resultados, junto con el probable origen de los bienes presentes en estos contextos, llevan a concluir que las interacciones con otras regiones de los Andes circumpuneños fueron más importantes para los procesos de diferenciación social en las comunidades Isla que las relaciones con el estado Tiwanaku. The confinement has been one of the measures adopted to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 with the greatest effect on society, such as changes in the consumption of content e-learning due to their need to acquire new knowledge. The objective is to establish causal links between periods of confinement and the growth of consumption of e-learning resources. Data on the use of a e-learning channel have been taken and Bayesian Network have been used as a methodological instrument. The results confirm this causal relationship. The phenomenology of poverty, characterized by an aggravated deprivation of human needs and insufficient attributes with respect to a fixed threshold, has gained relevance as a body of study in underdeveloped nations such as Colombia. In the last five years, multisectoral integration and the convergence of the prevailing institutional forces have become increasingly evident with a view to overcoming distributive conflicts and propitiating the appropriate conditions for certain economic agents to obtain purchasing power for physical subsistence. This article sets out as a cardinal objective the elucidation of causal relationships between monetary income and a set of monetary transfers (family, food and early childhood subsidy) received by families residing in marginal zones of Cartagena. For this purpose, a Bayesian VAR model is constructed, after formal verification of certain statistical assumptions. The results obtained indicate that the effect of the family subsidy on income is practically nil, the food subsidy has a low effect on final income, while transfers to early childhood do have a significant short-term effect on family income. The Beta distribution has gained importance in the field of applied statistics, because it is a probability function that allows us to model the natural behavior of random variables that can only take values within a delimited range of real numbers with finite length. A special case quite common in practice is that of the variables whose domain is within the interval (0.1), the case of proportions or percentages. In this article, a methodology is proposed to obtain a priori distributions for the shape parameters of the Beta distribution, which entails a new approach for these distribution from the Bayesian paradigm, since, most of the time, it is used as a prior distribution when the sample data can be adjusted to a binomial distribution, but in the case of interest for this work, the sample data can be adjusted with a Beta distribution which would imply having a likelihood function that is the product of n densities Beta. A joint distribution for the distribution parameters was initially obtained from the information for the mean and the variance of the prior distribution. The article analyzes Clara Rivolta, Clarisa Otero, and Catriel Greco's proposal on the chronology and social processes in the Quebrada de Humahuaca in Argentina. The authors use a Bayesian analysis of radiocarbon dating to classify occupations into four categories based on criteria of site location, organization, architecture, and associated ceramics. However, the author of the article points out methodological flaws in this proposal and questions the validity of the statistical analysis used. The low precision of the radiocarbon method is discussed, and the hypothesis is proposed that in the 13th century, the Quebrada de Humahuaca was a demographically empty area that attracted groups from the circum-Titicaca highlands, although this connection is based on limited evidence and a diffusionist interpretation. The increase in dropout rates in higher education is a phenomenon that has generated a lot of interest because of the need to deal with its economic, personal, and social consequences, and because of its prevalence, estimated around 30% in Spain. There is a similar interest in violent behavior in university classrooms, which has also been seen to have increased in recent years. Given that, and the fact that research has shown personal variables to be more influential in dropout from higher education, the aim of this study is to explore whether those students who are the victims of bullying (both traditional and cyberbullyíng) are closer to dropping out from their degree courses. To that end, 1,653 first-year students doing various degree courses in the north of Spain were asked to complete a questionnaire. The results of a Bayesian analysis showed that students who were victims of bullying were more likely to consider dropping out than students who were not victims of bullying. In addition, variables related to social integration (support from friends and teachers) exhibited a moderating effect. These findings raise the urgent need to include intervention strategies in relation to bullying in university plans to prevent dropout. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, there has been increased interest in using statistical models for analysis of single dengue outbreaks based on the reported cumulative cases. The three parameter logistic (3P logistic) and the Richards models have been used to estimate primary epidemiological parameters in single dengue outbreak. A topic that could be of interest to epidemiologists is the comparison of two single dengue outbreaks based on estimates of key epidemiological parameters: The turning point, the final size and the basic reproductive number R0. In order to compare two single dengue outbreaks we create a model that takes into account both outbreaks simultaneously. In this paper, we describe different methodologies based on Frequentist and Bayesian approaches that takes into account the model uncertainty in the comparison of two single dengue outbreaks. The Frequentist approach consists of comparing outbreak doing an extension of 3P logistic and Richards models and the use of model averaging for taking into account model uncertainty. In the Bayesian approach, we use a Bayesian hierarchical model and we use Bayesian model averaging applying Gibbs variable selection. The proposed methods are applied to dengue outbreaks that occurred in La Lisa municipality, Havana City, Cuba during 2006 and 2007 outbreaks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to propose a statistical methodology that allows to model asymmetric data using the Lévy distribution, a simulation study is presented under nine different scenarios to evaluate the estimation of the parameters of the distribution in the two approaches of statistics (Classical and Bayesian). The probability distributions Log-Normal, Lévy and Lévy Standard were considered to model the behavior of two real data sets with positive asymmetry, finding that the Lévy distribution fitted well to the proposed data set, therefore the Lévy distribution can be considered as a candidate to adjust asymmetric data with the presence of extreme values. Some key points in the recent discussion concerning three central concepts for general philosophy of science are addressed: (i) failures in the covering-law notion of explanation; (ii) differences among Hempelian, hypothetico-deductive and Bayesian confirmation concerning some well-known paradoxes, and (iii) the prospects for "experimental" realism, also labelled as "entity-realism". Numerous variables are involved in port operation and management, and infrastructure managers need to know relationships between them, to be able to modify operating conditions. Using Bayesian networks makes possible to classify, predict and diagnose these variables, allowing to estimate the posterior probability of the unknown variables based on the known variables. This means, at the planning level, that it is not necessary to know all the variables, knowing their relationships. Therefore, these networks can be used to make optimal decisions introducing possible actions and usefulness of their results. In the methodology proposed, a database with more than 100 port variables has been generated. Variables are classified as economic, social, environmental and institutional, as it is made in smart port studies in all Spanish Port System. Using this database, a network has been generated using an acyclic directed graph, which allows knowing relations between port variables regarding parents and sons. This kind of network allows modeling uncertainty probabilistically even when the number of variables is high as in the case of port planning and exploitation. The main conclusion of the study is that economic variables are the cause of the other typologies and they play the role of parents in the network in most of the cases. Introduction This article aims to obtain models based on probabilistic case analysis to help decision-making in the education and learning of UTEQ students. To obtain the final product, the development process has been distributed in several stages. Objective To create a probabilistic model to evaluate and diagnose students based on a set of characteristics, which must be learned automatically through a generalization of the AutoClass model allowing the existence of hidden variables, each of them affecting a set different from observable variables (students' answers to questions raised by an automatic learning system). Bayesian statistics is based on subjective probability. It works with evidence updating considering the knowledge acquired prior to an investigation, plus the evidence obtained thereof. Results' interpretation requires for the hypotheses to be tested to be specified and their a priori probability to be estimated before the study. Study evidence is measured with the Bayes factor (compatibility ratio of the data under the proposed hypotheses). The conjunction of hypotheses a priori probabilities with the Bayes factor allows calculating the a posteriori probability of each one of them. The hypothesis with the highest degree of certainty at its update is the one that is accepted for decision making. This article shows the application the fragment-asperity interaction theory to the earthquakes catalog of Ecuador. This catalog contains earthquakes generated by an oblique subduction, by the movement of a sliver plate and by several shallow faults. In this scenario, the nonextensive q parameter of the theory is calculated and it is compared with other regions. The q parameter for Ecuador is higher than for other seismic catalogs. We compute the parameter q of two types of seismicity originated in different physical processes: shallow earthquakes and intermediate-depth earthquakes. For the latter, the value of q is slightly higher than for the former. An essential contribution of this article is to show the calculation of the q parameter by an algorithm that solves the inverse problem from a Bayesian approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main goal of this research is to construct and assess forecast intervals for monthly US/EURO foreign exchange rate. The point forecasts used to build the intervals are based on a vector autoregression (VAR model) and on a Bayesian VAR model for data starting with the first month of 1999. The forecast intervals are based on the prediction error of the previous month. All the interval predictions based on VAR model included the actual values from 2014. The identification of risk factors associated with a disease is an important part on the model construction for public health. The investigators frequently use Logistic Regression (LR) as a statistical tool to achieve such end. LR it is commonly used with stepwise selection methods to select risk factors associated with a particular disease. Nonetheless stepwise methods for model selection tend to select over estimated models. This happens because standard selection methods don't take into account the inherent uncertainty on model selection. A criteria that takes into account the model selection uncertainty is the Bayesian Model Average (BMA) recently applied on LR for case and study controls. This paper presents the application utility of the BMA criteria and illustrates its use in a study about the presence of preeclampsia during pregnancy on Guerrero Mexico, said application is performed on the R software it also compares the results obtained with other selection criteria. The propose of this paper is to develop a Bayesian procedure that adequately account for studies with zero observations in meta-analysis and then we focus the problem in the context of the Bayesian selection models. Also, attention is focused to the link distribution between effectiveness in each study/center and the meta-effectiveness. We present an objective Bayesian method where all quantities of interest jointly with a Bayesian test for equality between treatments are also obtained. A couple of examples with is developed in depth using the proposed Bayesian meta-analysis for the binomial model. Basically, we obtain a Bayesian model for meta-analysis for sparse binomial data without considering transformations and/or corrections in variable/parameters. The Logistic Regression is a highly used model on different areas of science where the response variable of studied problems is binary. This model can be studied under the Bayesian approach, nonetheless calculations might be complicated even using computation methods, is for that reason we use MCMC methods, which are iterative methods to obtain an approximation of the posterior distribution of model parameters. We use the R software to obtain the distribution with the MCMC method. On this work we implement the logistic regression through a simulation study under the Bayesian Approach applied to the cognitive health state on elders in the state of Guerrero. This study analyzes the relationship between psychological and physical variables and sports injuries. A total of 297 athletes from 26 different sports participated in the study. Variables related to biomedical, psychological and sports injuries were collected. The analysis of data was performed through Bayesian networks. Our results suggest that a high probability of self-efficacy produce statistical dependence to high likelihood of sports injuries. This variable receives previous influences of biomedical variables (BMI) and psychological variables (stress). In this paper we are interested, in a general way, on statistics interpretations. For that, we focused our attention on a key concept in inferencial statistic: probability notion and its two intepretations: bayesian and frequentist. More preciselly, our subject for this study was to analyse the presence of these two interpretations on french textbooks used in 2007 year. For that, we build a set of dichotomical variables that we treat with Implicatif Statistics Analyse. The development of Intelligent Tutoring Systems aims to create tools to teach a knowledge domain in a similar way as would an experienced human tutor. To achieve it the system should be able to model the state of knowledge and recommend the best suited materials and interventions for each student. However, the knowledge associated with how people learn, the most effective ways to transmit knowledge and to measure it is incomplete and error prone. For these reasons, student modeling must take into account the uncertainty inherent in the process. This paper proposes a technique for developing a student module with the use of Bayesian networks and collaborative filtering, linking the stages through a measure of effectiveness generated during the assessment, called coefficient of effectiveness. Practices for optimal inventory management are a need at supply chains, especially for finished industrial products. A contribution to this logistic chain consists in finding efficient forecast of products demand, which permits to minimize cost inventory management, aspects that are more difficult in the presence of few historical data. This work proposal consists in the application of various Bayesian techniques with an optimization method, comparing its efficiency with MAPE indicator for demand forecasting, with few historical data. Results indicate that the expected value technique with an order 1 delay in the parameters, using Tabu metaheuristic shows the best accuracy in the forecast. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
