This article seeks to recognize Peasant Guards (Guardias Campesinas) as a communal institution with an impact on self-protection and the management of rural conflicts in the context of war and amidst the implementation of the Final Peace Agreement in Colombia. I argue that Peasant Guards are protagonists in initiatives to build a model of comunal security for peasant territories. Peasant guards can strengthen the construction of a comunal security model within the framework of current state building efforts in Colombia, especially in the context of the construction of Territorial Peace. I present a case study of the experience of the Peasant Guards of Pradera (Valle del Cauca), based on interviews, archival research and fieldwork. The article underscores the need for institutional recognition of the Peasant Guards as a mechanism for self-protection and care of the peasant territory. Laura Dudley Jenkins is a Political Science professor at the University of Cincinnati whose research focuses on social justice policies in India, Indonesia, South Africa, and the United States. She uses qualitative methods, such as archival research and life stories, to understand the impacts of public policies on people's lives. In an interview, Jenkins talks about her work and the importance of giving voice to research subjects, especially women. The importance of oral histories in expanding the historical record and achieving social justice is also discussed, as well as the need to include women's voices in male-dominated archives. Additionally, the article addresses the issue of epistemic violence and the resistance some researchers face when using interpretive approaches in political science. The article also reflects on the relationship between researchers and interviewees, especially in the context of women and female academics, and highlights the importance of demystifying and de-exoticizing interviewees. Amanda Labarca (1886--1975) was an educator and leader of the Chilean feminist movement. In 1922 she became the first woman to hold a university professor position in Chile. This article recovers Labarca's trajectory as a scholar, particularly her contributions to community engagement in Chile and Latin America. Through historical research based on archival analysis (transcripts of meetings and conferences, speeches, interviews to media and oral history, and letters) and secondary sources (books and articles), it reviews her participation in community engagement projects from 1907 until her retirement in 1955, at Universidad de Chile. Then, three manifest and latent contributions to the concept of community engagement are identified. The distinction between the manifest and the latent allows us to highlight those less explicit elements in her work and more original ones. Her manifest contribution is to understand community engagement as nation--building, pedagogical and democratizing action. The latent contribution is to approach community engagement as an innovation and dispute, an object of study, and part of a global dialogue. Far from being a "natural" evolution within epidemiology and public health, the development of global epidemiological surveillance systems adapted to identify unexpected biological threats respond, in fact, to technoscientific discourses that incorporate specific perspectives and political interests. The objective of this article seeks to demonstrate how US national security prerogatives had a crucial influence on the design of new technical practices of disease surveillance that were incorporated into the policies and regulations of the WHO in the mid-1990s. Through original documentary and archival research, the article demonstrates the influence of security concerns regarding the proliferation of biological weapons and potential bioterrorist attacks in the concept of "emerging infectious diseases" and, moreover, in the development of novel epidemiological surveillance systems. The article's conclusion suggests that, indeed, the American biosecurity discourse has had a decisive role in the development of contemporary epidemiological knowledge and practices. John Nash was a landscaper and architect who extended the category of the picturesque to urban planning in the early nineteenth century. Using a historicist approach based on archival research and literature review, this article discusses how this theoretical and aesthetic movement influenced the transformation of London through the creation of Regent's Park, St. James's Park and Regent's Street. A literature review regarding Gertrudis Segovia Álvarez shows this author has been forgotten from the critics despite being recognized as a successful writer at the beginning of the twentieth century. This paper aims archival research related to her stay in the Canary Islands and the influence of this time in her work. The findings show the issues Gertrudis Segovia embodied with her feminine identity because of an intellectual and emotional exclusion. Also, it is discovered in this paper the features of being a self-sacrificing woman, the importance of the influence of the masculine role in her life -her father and her husband, and the importance of her recognition by a female audience in the middle of the strong influence of the Catholicism in the social life and the private life as well. In 1948, the Chilean commercial aviation sector was reformed. The Civil Aeronautics Board (JAC) was created, and the Línea Aérea Nacional (LAN), which held a monopoly on cabotage rights, permitted the entry of several private carriers into the industry. In 1953 LAN's monopoly was eliminated opening a competition among airlines. Based on archival research at the JAC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and using congressional and press records, this article analyzes the emergence of private airlines and evaluates how the end of the cabotage monopoly impacted the internal aviation market and modified both LAN and private carriers' strategies. Diplomatic relations between Mexico and Guatemala were less than optimal during the nineteen-thirties, defined by an environment full of suspicions and handshakes between their representatives. In this paper I study the accusation against Guatemalan President Jorge Ubico (1931-1944) of participating in the uprising of Saturnino Cedillo, which occurred in May 1938. Through archival research in both countries, I clarify interference that certain researchers have accepted without showing significant proof, and others have ignored. Did Ubico support the cedillistas that rebelled against the government of Lázaro Cárdenas? I respond to this question by examining the source of the accusation, its promotors in Mexico, and the response by the Cardenist government. The main objective of this research is to rethink traditional and historiographical principles to demonstrate the possibilities of reconstruction and rereading of literary historiography with digital resources. The methodology used is derived from the massive digitization of contents made by libraries and institutional archives and their metadata listing that offer specific information about digitized objects. The first results of the research are presented with a double purpose: first, the production, use, diffusion and storage of national and international digital resources related to the rereading of the Silver Age. In the second place, the advances in digital history that Mnemosine, Digital Library of the Other Silver Age (1868-1936) is carrying out through the import, configuration and processing of metadata will be presented, which allows the creation of specific collections that adapt to the needs of users for teaching or research purposes. This article presents a way to gather images about experiences on collection conservation in archives and libraries that are published on Internet. For that purpose, a guide about visual identification of deterioration or good practices is designed. In this way, several steps are followed: search, selection, description of materials up to the promotion and publication of such work on the E-LIS repository. The analysis of the results showed that is necessary to improve the way in which the information is retrieved. Based on this, a new tool will be developed in a more dynamic environment. Objective. Analyze the archival scientific production registered in the Network of Scientific Journals of Latin America and the Caribbean (Redalyc). Method. Applied a bibliometric study with a sample that included a longitudinal statistical analysis from 2001 to 2011. Searches advanced by key words related to the archives have been developed. Results. The year of increased productivity was the 2011 with a total of 19 publications, being Biblios the journal with more published articles, finding that 68,38% of the authorial production are signed by a single author. Conclusions. A total of 117 publications are refered to s area and were recorded in Redalyc, with a gradual growth in the last years in the archival scientific productivity. This paper presents the first application to Colombia of culturomics, a novel research method in the social sciences that describes cultural, social and linguistics trends based on the quantitative analysis of millions of digitized texts. The paper uses all news and editorials published during the past two decades in three national periodicals in order to analyze the trajectories of several social and economic phenomena: corruption, economic optimism, the relative power of the judicial branch, etc. Beyond its specific findings, this paper showcases how culturomics can be used to describe the changing reality of a developing country. The article focuses on the documentary analysis done on the publications and normative texts of the Colombian archivistics in the period 1989-2008. It mentions a qualitative research done on the bibliographic production, works of institutions such as the National General Archive and the University of Caldas in Manizales, Colombia, and archivistic norms in Colombia. It mentions the study areas such as the terms having higher and lower frequency of occurence, and problems related to the lexicon.

El artículo considera la investigación sobre la historia eclesiástica católica en la región de La Pampa, Argentina. Se examina el uso de los archivos institucionalizados y los repositorios para los estudios. Según el autor, estos archivos ofrecen recursos detallados a causa de las prácticas del mantenimiento del registro de la Iglesia. Se describe la importancia de utilizar una combinación de material histórico tanto religioso como secular para formar una historiografía más completa.

El artículo discute los fondos documentales y museológicos de la Capilla/Museo Padre Angel Buodo. Se presenta una lista de los objetos encontrados en el museo, como un cuadro de Relaciones Locales, algunos cuadernos de las memorias sobre las misiones de La Pampa y unos cuadernos de finanzas de las misiones. Se encontraron, en otra parte de la capilla, varios objetos que pertenecían al Padre Celso Valla que tenían que ver con su llegada y tiempo en La Pampa en los años 50 y 60, varios registros que incluyen información sobre su labor misional y algunas copias de sus obras.

The aim of the following exposition is to describe the 'Archivo de Ia Palabra y de Ia Imagen de Cartagena' project, which emerges as a need to preserve the intangible cultural heritage of the city of Cartagena and its region. If that information is not researched and preserved adequately, there is a risk that it will disappear. That is to say, we can lose a valuable information transmitted orally-and consequently without any written available documents-by our community. Finally, we hope to obtain from the project we have presented on this document a base of knowledge made up of digital documents and their metadata of creation, administration and use about non-written culture of our region, and some tertiary tools as well. The aim of this paper is to present the documentary and journalistic attributes of photographs of the 1898 Cuba war published in three Spanish magazines of that epoch: La Ilustración Española y Americana, Blanco y Negro, and Nuevo Mundo. Results obtained on a 345 photographs sample show an insufficient biographical and temporal identification. General shots and static figures prevail, there are no war actions at all, and pictures have a small size. Main conclusions of this analysis are: a) There is a scant informative transparency, and an excessive use of archive photographs. b) There is a very distant and artificial vision of war, not cruel, except for the repatriation of the defeated episode. c) Photographs have a simple illustrative task. To recover the historical memory of the Spanish civil war, the investigator has to locate documentation referred to the graves of victims of the fight, with information about the places such as, number of victims, cause of the death, etc. As a result of an archaeological excavation in the mine of Valdihuelo in San Vicente of Alcántara (Badajoz), human rests have been recovered that are being analyzed at this moment. However, these analyses have confirmed that these graves correspond to deceases produced during the Civil War and immediately later. The next job was the location of documentation with necessary information for the identification of the victims and causes of their death, etc. The aim is to present a methodology of documental work for these purposes and the results of this investigation.
