Despite multiple technological, healthcare and infrastructure advances, intestinal parasitosis continues being a public health problem, mainly in developing countries, where socioeconomic facts had great influence on population's hygiene and eating habits. Unfortunately, some regions in Mexico have intestinal parasitosis as an endemic disease. It causes great morbi-mortality in general population, and specially in children; the most common is the intestinal ascariasis, a pathology with an insidious and innespecific clinical presentation which requires a high clinical suspicion in combination with auxilliary diagnosis tests for its diagnosis; this is where radiologist skills play an important role, since sutile findings can be documented with easily accessible imaging methods to help reaching the diagnosis. Introduction: The intussusception is the most frequent reason of intestinal obstruction in children. The clinical typical picture is abdominal pain, palpable mass and stools with aspect of "jelly of currant". Objective: To show the experience with the diagnosis and treatment of intussusception in children hospitalized in a General Hospital during a period of 12 years. Materials and methods: We reviewed the charts of children with diagnosis of intussusception in a General Hospital. Results: We reviewed 31 charts, 17 men and 14 women. The clinical data were abdominal pain and vomiting in 84%, distended abdomen and bloody stools 77%, palpable mass 32%. The intussusception ileo-colica was the most frequent. The treatment was surgical in all, 21 with manual reduction, the others with intestinal resection, anastomosis primary or ileostomy. Conclusions: In a child with acute abdominal pain, vomit, evacuations with bloody stools and abdominal palpable mass the most probable diagnosis is intussusception. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NE) is a serious condition that affects particularly pre-term newborns and it is associated with high morbi-mortality. NE is the most frequent gastrointestinal emergency condition in neonatal intensive care units. We present a case of an 8-week child who presented severe NE with portal pneumatosis confirmed by clinical and surgical procedures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Computerized axial tomography of abdomen requires the administration of contrast by mouth to hight volumes one hour before the study, leading to consider the patient pediatric with stomach full and at risk of breathing into the lungs when it undergoes sedation anesthesia. Material and methods: We Included patients scheduled to Computerized axial tomography of abdomen that covered the inclusion criteria in the time spanning study (one year). They were divided into two groups: group I received intravenous thiopental and group II sevoflurano inhalated. To decide the anesthetic technique patients were randomized. Results: We included 122 patients, 61 in each group. Hemodinamic stability was observed in both groups. Vomiting two patients presented in group I (3.27%) and group II a patient presenting vomiting (1.6%) without evidence of breathing into the lungs between groups. Efficiency in the group I was good in a 75.4% and regulate in a 24.6%. In the group II was good at 100%. Conclusions: In this investigation the group with Intravenous sedation with thiopental for management of computerized axial tomography of abdomen have double risk of vomiting with your respective risk of breathing into the lungs. Objective: Submitting a case of intra-renal schwannoma with unfrequent radiological characteristics. Methods: 72 years old patient, as incidental finding. When practicing a thorax radiography that showed an elevation of the right hemidiaphragm, as well as tumor presence located at right renal fossa level in the simple abdomen radiography. Tomography was carried out in simple phase and with contrast agent finding this tumor. It was possible to determine that said tumor doesn't invade the inferior vena cava or other structures, through Magnetic Resonance. Results: After the surgical exeresis, the patient was diagnosed with an intra-renal schwannoma. Any supplemental treatment is not administered. Conclusions: The antique schwannoma is an uncommon variant of the so called benign schwannoma. It is important to consider that Computerized Tomography is a reliable method for detection of said pathology considering as a possibility, other differential diagnosis knowing each one's characteristics.
