The global surface temperature of the Earth and oceans from March to May 2022 was the sixth highest in 142 years, with a deviation of 0.85 °C above the 20th-century average. The ten warmest periods from March to May have occurred since 2010. There were negative temperature anomalies in Eastern Europe, Western Asia, southern South America, South Africa, and much of Canada, while the rest of the planet experienced positive anomalies. As for precipitation, there were significant variations worldwide, with regions such as southern Canada, southeastern Iberian Peninsula, eastern Australia, and northeastern Asia experiencing above-normal rainfall, while much of Europe, western United States, Argentina, and Pakistan experienced below-normal rainfall. During the boreal spring, La Niña conditions prevailed and are expected to continue in the coming months with less intensity. As for the extent of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean, in May 2022, it was below the 1981-2010 average, with ice loss mainly in the Bering Sea, Barents Sea, Davis Strait, and Baffin Bay. Spring in Spain had a very warm character, with an average temperature over the Iberian Peninsula of 12.8 °C, making it the twelfth warmest spring since 1961. The spring of 2022 in Spain was characterized by cold temperatures in March and April but extremely warm temperatures in May. Overall, daily maximum temperatures were above normal, while minimum temperatures were above average. There were negative thermal anomalies in most regions of Spain, except in the north, where they were positive. As for precipitation, spring was wet, with a precipitation value of 112% of the normal value. The spring of 2022 in Spain has been variable in terms of precipitation. Some areas, such as Galicia, Basque Country, and Navarra, have experienced drought, while others, such as the eastern coast and Andalusia, have had an extremely wet character. March was especially wet, April was wet, and May was extremely dry. During this quarter, 21 reports of convective phenomena were recorded in SINOBAS, all on the Peninsula except one in Ceuta. The highest daily rainfall was recorded in Alicante, Castellón, Puerto de Navacerrada, Ceuta, Valencia, Hondarribia, Reus, Donostia, Melilla, Valencia, Palma, and Castelló-Almassora.
