Starch is one of the most widely used natural biopolymers in the cosmetic industry, because it is an environmentally friendly, abundant, and inexpensive product. However, its structure must be modified for greater use of its physical, chemical, and mechanical characteristics. There are currently more than 15,000 publications in which starches of different plant species are related to some chemical modification by esterification reactions with Acetic Anhydride, Octenyl Succinic Anhydride (OSA) and Dodecenyl Succinic Anhydride (DDSA), according to the search carried out in different databases until July 2020. This confirms the extensive use of modified starches that can be used as excipients in different products of great utility to humanity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
