Abstract

This article shows the design and implementation of an inertial measurement unit (IMU) for a mini-helicopter X-CELL Graphite. The application is supported on components COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) allowing to have the data outputs through a bus CAN. The sensors' operation principles, the form in which the signals of the sensors are processed and the delivery of the measurements of accelerations and angular velocities are well illustrated. Also the importance of this type of measurements in order to obtain the attitude of an aerial vehicle is included. The technology used in the design is based on an implementation of open form for any system that requires it, allowing to have quite high connectivity alternatives for aeronautical applications.
