The article "Neglected and forgotten infectious diseases in Latin America and their importance for Chile" talks about neglected infectious diseases (NID) that affect the poorest regions of the world, especially in tropical areas. In Chile, the increase in immigration has led to the importation of emerging infectious diseases, which has generated challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. Some of the important diseases in Chile include malaria, strongyloidiasis, and Chagas disease. The article presents information about various neglected infectious diseases in Latin America, such as leishmaniasis, abdominal angiostrongyliasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and lymphatic filariasis. The lack of resources and diagnostic and treatment methods in the region's healthcare system is highlighted. The importance of improving case notification methods and coordinating care to make informed decisions in the healthcare system is mentioned. [Extracted from the article]
