The article "Neglected and forgotten infectious diseases in Latin America and their importance for Chile" talks about neglected infectious diseases (NID) that affect the poorest regions of the world, especially in tropical areas. Far from being a "natural" evolution within epidemiology and public health, the development of global epidemiological surveillance systems adapted to identify unexpected biological threats respond, in fact, to technoscientific discourses that incorporate specific perspectives and political interests. The objective of this article seeks to demonstrate how US national security prerogatives had a crucial influence on the design of new technical practices of disease surveillance that were incorporated into the policies and regulations of the WHO in the mid-1990s. Through original documentary and archival research, the article demonstrates the influence of security concerns regarding the proliferation of biological weapons and potential bioterrorist attacks in the concept of "emerging infectious diseases" and, moreover, in the development of novel epidemiological surveillance systems. The article's conclusion suggests that, indeed, the American biosecurity discourse has had a decisive role in the development of contemporary epidemiological knowledge and practices. Zoonoses such as rabies, malaria, dengue and many others have affected humans since our origin. In the face of Covid-19, our aim is to highlight that bats are not to blame for the pandemic, on the contrary; there are many health services provided by bats to human beings, agriculture, food and the economy, among others. SARS-CoV-2 has not been found in any bats. Covid-19 transmission is humans-to-human; 70% of zoonotic diseases, such as SARS or MERS, come from wild animals, so it is necessary to eliminate the illegal sale of wild animals in unsanitary markets, which represent a source of contagion and proliferation of emerging infectious diseases. Emerging infectious diseases include diseases of known or unknown infectious origin, which incidence in humans has increased in the last two decades or threatens to increase in the near future. The type of pathogen, host, vector and environment are the main causes related to the increase in incidence of infectious diseases. It is widely known that an emergent pathogen in the incubation period could be a potential risk in the process of blood transfusion; mainly if there is not an available technology for its appropriate detection as it may include mutated strains of well-known pathogens. International agencies work closely with research laboratories in order to develop new and more sensitive diagnostic methods and systems to make possible the detection and control on time of these emerging diseases. Specialists of local blood banks work with regionalized population, providing a wide opportunity to detect these pathogens; this system allows a rapid detection of the probable region of origin of the disease. Emerging infectious diseases result in serious medical and socio-economic impacts, hence sanitary authorities, political control systems, and international agencies should work in collaboration to control the outbreak and avoid a global impact. Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases originated in wild life animals can be transmitted to human population either by direct contact or by vectors. Zoonosis are of big social and epidemiological concern. The arising of emerging infectious diseases is linked to loss of biodiversity by anthropogenic factors due to destruction of natural habitats, fauna and flora smuggling and the loss of genetic diversity. All this aspects play a role in the arising of reemerging infectious diseases. This review approaches to the knolewdge of zoonosis transmitted by wild animals to human beings and the impact of these conditions in the epidemiology of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. The current concept of health does not include only the human welfare, but also involves the health of the human, other animals and the ecosystems. The continuous environmental modification by human action has increased the occurrence of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) or those re-emerging, i.e. previously controlled diseases of zoonotic origin (REID). Those facts have encourage the integration of veterinary medicine, human medicine and environmental health under a unique focus understood as Conservation Medicine (CM) which enable the integral and multifactorial understanding the ecology of EID such as West Nile virus, SARS, Ebola virus, Lyme disease, Hantavirus, Rabies virus, or the REID such as American trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis. All these diseases can be viewed from the CM perspective because the connection bridges between wild and domestic fauna, the ecosystem and the human being, for understanding, prevention and sustainable management of zoo-anthropo-zoonoses. Se evaluó el efecto del orégano vulgar (Origanum vulgare), a partir de dos temperaturas de secado, 25 y 60 °C, en el comportamiento productivo de conejos de ceba. Se utilizaron un total de 45 conejos de la raza Nueva Zelanda Blanca, desde 30 hasta 78 d de edad, distribuidos en tres tratamientos: sin aditivo, orégano secado a 25 y a 60 °C. Previamente se caracterizó el aceite esencial del orégano y el carvacrol fue el componente activo de mayor presencia. Los conejos recibieron 1 % del producto seco y molido en la dieta. Se incrementó el consumo de alimento (81.61, 89.09 y 89.33 g/conejo/d) y la ganancia de peso vivo (24.97, 27.75 y 29.47 g/conejo/d), así como la mejora en la conversión alimentaria (3.62, 3.38, 3.04), a favor del orégano secado a 60 °C. Se recomienda el uso del orégano como aditivo en los conejos de ceba, secado a 60 °C, porque se logra un mejor comportamiento productivo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Most of the times, in the presence of emerging diseases health authorities in the involved countries act in a reactive way. When the health problem becomes an inconvenient situation, authorities join experts to establish emergency plans, organize a protocol of specific attention and develop educational strategies to operative personnel. The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social with the publishing of the "Technical guidelines for the prevention and treatment of chikungunya fever" is acting cautiously with the development of strategies and a protocol to treat patients and at the same time it is offering the theoretical grounds to operative health personnel.
