The article presents a new perspective on calorie consumption in running/walking. It analyzes the physical kinetics of this practice and develops a mathematical formula to calculate the mechanical energy consumed based on different parameters such as weight, distance covered, and runner's speed. It differentiates between walking and running, as during walking there must always be one foot in contact with the ground, while during running there is a small jump with each stride. The article presents the calculation of energy consumed based on the basic principles of the physical kinetics of a mobile object. It concludes that the energy consumed is proportional to the square of the speed and the distance covered. It also mentions the effect of body elevation with each stride in running, which consumes additional energy. This article presents a calculation of the mechanical energy consumed in walking and/or running, valid for both casual walkers and professional athletes. It highlights the popularity of this sport in today's society, associated with reducing body fat and maintaining muscle capacity. Additionally, a didactic strategy based on surprising physical phenomena is proposed to increase the appeal of physics and awaken students' curiosity. [Extracted from the article]
