Like in other countries, the current landscape of scientific evaluation in Colombia faces challenges in studying the social sciences and humanities. The coverage limitations of citation databases, the scant presence of Colombian journals in them, and issues with existing classifications justify the creation of products that cover aspects not present in international indices and that allow evaluating the national production and its contributors. This article presents, based on a sample of education journals, the methodology for creating a citation-based tool that is useful for obtaining indicators and descriptions of journals and scientific activity at various levels. This initiative is based on the Spanish proposal Dialnet Métricas, already active in most areas of social sciences, humanities, and law, as well as on the interest it represents for Colombia to have a tool that allows analyzing journals beyond the fulfillment of criteria and provides indicators that contribute to the evaluation of science. This work outlines the process of journal selection, the management of the source data used, a citation analysis, and a description and visualization of the indicators. The value and contributions of the tool in the Colombian context are confirmed through the obtainment of citations and indicators for a considerable number of national journals and through their comparison with Publindex. The article analyzes the role of scientific journals in the communication and dissemination of knowledge in Mexico. It mentions that scientific journals have been affected by bibliometric indicators that evaluate academic production, such as presence in international databases. The importance of regional databases, such as Latindex, Scielo, and Redalyc, for the internationalization of journals is also highlighted. Both traditional metrics and alternative metrics of four educational research journals in Mexico are examined: Revista Electrónica de Investigación Educativa (redie), Revista Iberoamericana de Educación Superior (ries), Revista Mexicana de Investigación Educativa (rmie), and Perfiles Educativos. Different bibliometric indicators, such as CiteScore and SJR, are discussed to evaluate the performance of these journals. The location of these journals in the Scopus bibliographic index is also analyzed, and the challenges they face to improve their citation indexes and respond to the demand for publication are identified. The importance of using traditional metrics to evaluate the performance of journals is emphasized, but without privileging the location in impact indexes over the main function of communicating knowledge. Additionally, it is suggested to give greater visibility and use to alternative metrics and strengthen editorial teams to carry out dissemination tasks. [Extracted from the article]

Introduction: In the academic world, scientific publication has become a constant problem, both in its quantitative and qualitative elements. Objective: To characterize MEDISAN's publication rate according to some aspects of its scientific and editorial production. Methods: An observational, descriptive and transversal research, of bibliometric type, was carried out on the scientific production of MEDISAN journal from Santiago de Cuba during the five-year period 2017-2021. The study population was made up of all scientific articles published in that period according to the records of SciELO Citation Index and Google Scholar databases, as well as those of the journal itself on the Open Journal Systems. Results: During the analyzed period, 38 issues were published, which included 679 articles and 2,367 authors. The year 2017 stood out with the highest number of publications (31.8%) and the year 2019 with a lower number (14.3%). Cuban authors had the greatest contribution (629 articles), especially those from Santiago de Cuba province, where professionals from University of Medical Sciences stood out, with 50.1% of all production. The h5 index revealed a trend of increasing citations received by the journal, since in 2021 it was 23 and in 2022 it increased to 27. Conclusions: The analysis of scientific and editorial production revealed the strengths and weaknesses of the journal, which makes it possible to draw up policies to increase its quality and, with it, its visibility in databases. This article analyzes the productivity and impact of Argentine scientific research in economics and sociology in Scopus and Google Scholar. The main goal of this research was to examine the effect of the orientation of researchers towards greater visibility on their productivity and academic impact in the bibliometric database Scopus. The findings indicate that researchers in economics have higher levels of productivity and impact in Scopus than their peers in sociology. On the other hand, it is observed that visibility in Scopus has a positive effect on impact, operationalized by the Scopus h-index, in both economics and sociology; while it only has a positive impact on the Google Scholar h-index in the case of sociology. Considering productivity (number of documents) in Google Scholar as the dependent variable, visibility in Scopus affects it negatively and statistically significantly only in sociology. If productivity in Scopus is analyzed, visibility in Scopus has a positive effect on both disciplines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article acknowledges that Foucault's two major methodologies (archaeology and genealogy) emerged in two different moments of his methodological approach. It argues that from the 1970s, the concept of dispositif develops in the philosopher due to a discontinuity in his research. It is argued that this problem arose as a result of a series of situations: the discovery of a new research problem and the occurrence of a specific socio-political juncture (failure of the social mobilizations of May 68). This led Foucault to pose the question, "How is power exercised?" instead of the old question, "What is power?". This transformation of the question was fundamental for Foucault, concluding that every dispositif presupposes the existence of power and that every power is exercised through the use of knowledge. The article concludes with a reference to Jürgen Habermas, who outlines the crisis that the failure of the social mobilizations during the May 68 events generated in Foucault. This paper was elaborated from a qualitative research method and a bibliographic tracing technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The magazine Apuntes, Journal of Social Sciences of the University of the Pacific, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023. Since its foundation in 1973, it has been one of the first Peruvian social science journals to be continuously published for five decades. The magazine has been an important means of disseminating knowledge in Peruvian and Latin American social sciences, and has had an impact on Peruvian society, influencing the generation of social and economic policies. Throughout its history, 589 articles have been published and it has been cited on numerous occasions. Apuntes magazine focuses on topics such as social ownership, agrarian reform, the state's relations with transnational companies, and governmental trends. It has evolved to adapt to technological changes, transitioning from a print magazine to a digital version. The magazine has sought to increase its visibility and international prestige by incorporating foreign authors and meeting high-quality editorial standards. It has been indexed in various platforms and databases, and currently has an editorial committee and reviewers who review articles before publication. The article presents a bibliometric analysis of the Apuntes magazine, highlighting its social impact and knowledge generation over 50 years. The main bibliometric indicators used in the study are mentioned, such as the number of articles published annually, the Lotka productivity index, authors with the highest number of articles, among others. It is emphasized that the magazine has experienced an increase in collaboration between national and foreign authors, as well as an increase in the participation of female authors in recent years. Additionally, it is highlighted that Apuntes has been indexed in various platforms and has gained international recognition. Table 3 shows the nationality of authors with articles published in the Apuntes magazine from 1973 to 2022. Peruvian authors represent the majority with 310 articles, followed by Argentina with 66, the United States with 49, Chile with 31, Brazil with 26, Mexico with 25, Spain with 11, Colombia and France with 8 each, and the United Kingdom with 6. As for the main authors, Jorge Fernández-Baca from the University of the Pacific tops the list with 10 articles, followed by Fernando González Vigil, Jürgen Schuldt, Roberto Urrunaga, and Gustavo Yamada. Additionally, the Lotka index is used to identify and group authors according to their productivity, and it is shown that the majority of authors are small producers with a Lotka index equal to zero. Finally, the number of citations obtained by articles at different stages of the magazine is analyzed, highlighting that the internationalization period has been the most fruitful in terms of citations. During this period, the main theme of Apuntes magazine articles continues to be "Peru," but topics such as "economy," "politics," "education," and "health" are also highlighted. These topics reflect the magazine's focus on addressing relevant issues for the country and its relationship with the international context. Additionally, there is an increased collaboration between institutions and countries in the production of articles, demonstrating international academic cooperation. The article presents a significant change in the topics of Apuntes magazine articles, where Argentina is highlighted as the main topic along with politics, social issues, companies, industry, and education. The collaboration of Argentine research institutions is mentioned, and the magazine's adaptation to digitization and open access is highlighted. Additionally, it is mentioned that Apuntes has managed to meet quality requirements in editorial management and has been indexed in recognized scientific platforms. [Extracted from the article]

This research aims to analyze how metadiscourse has been studied by examining scientific production during the last four decades. We used the bibliometric analysis. We selected papers on inclusion criteria: including Scopus articles published in English, Spanish, and other languages. For other databases, we considered publications in Spanish and some in Portuguese. The bibliometric analysis used the VOSviewer software. The results show the lines of research on metadiscourse, the approaches to its study, and the centers that lead them, as well as researchers and the various disciplines of their research. Additionally, we characterized niches as epistemic spaces for the study of metadiscourse: authorial commitment through interactional resources, self-mentions, and metadiscursive strategies. We found gaps between the scientific production published in Scopus, Scielo, and Google Scholar and between that published in English and Spanish concerning metadiscourse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In December 2022, a new version of the Brazilian indicator for the evaluation of scientific journals Qualis Periodicos was published, corresponding to the period 2017-2020. This new version of the indicator is the only official version since the previous one was published in 2016, in spite of the leaks in recent years of some estimates and discussions on the new values of the journals according to new criteria, in which citations and values from other bibliometric indicators such as CiteScore, Scopus, and Clarivate-JIF percentiles and Google’s h, h5, or h10 indexes have gained more relevance. Qualis Periodicos, practically ubiquitous in Brazil, corresponds to the main factor and motivation that Brazilian researchers have in deciding where to publish their best papers, so its situation and values are of special interest for journals that want to attract quality research from a country as large as Brazil, where recent political changes are expected to prompt greater investment in its scientific system and more resources for publications. This paper presents the values of the Spanish journals in Communication and Information, based on the Fecyt 2021 list and the Documentation and Communication categories of Dialnet Métricas, and identifies some anomalies in the system that should be considered by editors and authors when publishing their results. The purpose of this research is to analyze the human right to financial self-management by serving social emancipation; therefore, it carries out a bibliometric study of the Latin American scientific production on entrepreneurship in the Scopus database (2012-2021). This type of inquiry provides the theoretical foundations to facilitate democratic economic dispositions as they are collective initiatives in favor of much more equitable ways of life in the face of market impositions. In other words, administrative models are promoted that, based on sovereignty, serve to demonstrate freedom as a distinctive human characteristic in favor of just societies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

H-index (Citation analysis) , *BIBLIOMETRICS , *SOCIAL services , *CITATION indexes , *DATABASES , *CLASSIFICATION , *TRANSVERSAL lines - Abstract
The main objective of this study is to analyze the topics of interest on which the scientific production of the discipline of Social Work is concentrated in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) database, which corresponds to the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) in the social work category. The research is of a quantitative-descriptive and bibliometric nature, based on the use of Science Maps and the method of co-occurrence of keywords, having as unit of analysis the scientific research articles published in the period 2011-2021. We worked on the basis of quantitative indicators of productivity (number of publications) and bibliometric quality (total number of citations, h or Hirsch index). The Science Mapping Analysis Tool (SciMAT) software was used to obtain the Strategic Diagram for that period, which presents the classification of 23 topics and which, according to the range of centrality and density, are concentrated in: (I) driving or relevant topics, (II) basic or transversal, (III) emerging or declining, and (IV) peripheral or isolated. It is estimated that together they correspond to the most relevant topics of scientific production in the area of Social Work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A bibliometric research is carried out on the scientific production in the Scopus database, for thr words "multilateral funding education", delimiting the period between the years 2000-2021. The documents have been quantified and classified, analyzing the themes, the countries and institutions that have the greatest production and the most cited publications. The results allow us to verify a very important growth in production, especially from 2011. It is concluded that the research theme has not reached consolidation and is insufficient despite the constant rise in the period analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

URBAN planning , *CITATION analysis , *REMOTE sensing , *LAND use , *GEOGRAPHIC information systems , *URBAN growth , *CITATION indexes - Abstract
Urban sprawl generates an unprecedented transformation in land use; therefore, by not recognizing its dynamics and impact on sustainable planning, it develops without much control or planning, causing alterations in natural ecosystems, biodiversity, dispersion of inhabitants in the periphery, among others. The factors that influence urban sprawl were identified and analyzed, as well as the methodological approaches and research instruments worldwide. A systematic literature review method was used that included a citation frequency index using quartiles (Q). The results showed ten factors affecting urban sprawl; the four main factors being: urban planning (Q1), land use (Q1), urban growth and urbanization (Q2). Three research approaches were identified: quantitative, qualitative and mixed, the most commonly used research tools are remote sensing, GIS, statistical methods, and predictive models. Although the review shows a hierarchy of factors that influence urban expansion, it is necessary to consider the great influence of the market in the dynamics of expansion and related neoliberal policies, factors implicit in these processes with differential degrees of incidence in the territories, but common worldwide. The inventory routing problem is an important issue within logistics and supply chain management, and as such has been addressed by the scientific literature. Likewise, decision support systems have received much attention from academic researchers due to their usefulness in numerous disciplines. This paper proposes a review of the academic literature on vehicle routing with inventory and decision support systems. For this, bibliometric analysis is used in publications on these two topics from the Sciencedirect and Scielo databases, between the years 1997 and 2020. The temporal trends, different classifications, authors and most relevant related topics and the link between these topics are analyzed. The main findings are the growing trend in the study of both topics, the absence of authors and central themes linked to them, as well as the scarce interrelation in their study. The manuals of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and Red de Indicadores de Ciencia y Tecnología -Iberoamericana e Interamericana-are methodological references for the measurement of science, technology and innovation activities. This study aims to understand the influence of these manuals on international scientific production, through bibliometric and scientometric methods and techniques (citation and co-citation). Articles that cited the manuals indexed by the Scopus database (from 1954 to 2016) were analyzed. Were found 1906 articles citing the OECD and 12 RICYT manuals. There was a significant increase in citations and co-citation (16 %) from 2007. The data show the influence of the manuals, especially of the OECD, on the international scientific community and the growing interest in the science, technology and innovation indicators at the present. Scientists’ interest in sharing research data based on Robert K. Merton’s ethos of science is analyzed. Thirty scientific documents from Scopus and Web of Science citation indexes were reviewed. The interpretative analysis of the content was done with the ATLAS. ti software. Among the findings, several factors associated with scientists’ refusal to share data in science stand out. Other positions were also found that promote awareness in favor of distributing them, since the common good is above private interests. Finally, it is verified that the ethos of science is an appropriate proposal to analyze the interest of researchers in the distribution of research data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The field of Communication in Spain is analyzed, contextualizing Spanish output at a global and local level between the years 2000 and 2020. Based on a descriptive bibliometric analysis of the Communication category of the Social Sciences Citation Index database, part of Web of Science, the impact of the main countries is identified. The weight of the output in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) database between 2015 and 2020 is also studied. An analysis of the output by universities in Spain for the period 2010–2020 is also carried out, comparing it with the impact and the works in the first quartile. The results reveal that Spain has been the fourth country in terms of output in Communication in the last decade and that Austria stands out as the country whose works have the greatest impact. It is also observed that 67% of Spain’s works in Communication are published in journals that are indexed in ESCI. The impact of Spanish universities is very close to the world average. The Universitat Pompeu Fabra stands out, publishing the most articles and, furthermore, being the Spanish university with most papers in the first quartile of the JCR in Communication between 2010 and 2020. The study of the Shanghai Ranking by area includes eight Spanish universities, only three of which have output in Communication that comes mainly from professors in this area. The role of the Spanish journals Comunicar and Profesional de la información is notable, as they publish a large fraction of the output by Spanish universities in the Communication field. Finally, this paper presents the challenges of research in Communication, as well as those related to its bibliometric analysis, and a reflection on the problems that affect scientific production and research in this subject area. DIGITAL technology , *TEACHING experience , *EVIDENCE gaps , *SOCIAL processes , *CITATION indexes , *WORLD health , *TEACHER educators - Abstract
The processes of social confinement caused by the global health crisis (COVID-19), have forced professors to assume new research competencies that allow them to improve science indicators and contribute to the research culture in the digital era for the Latin American region. This article analyzes the research culture of Latin American professors in 20 countries in the digital era, and their relationship with the production of scientific papers indexed in the Journal Citation Report (JCR) between 1996 and 2019. A questionnaire (with validity and reliability criteria) with a Likerttype scale was applied to 2,215 professors selected from five international scientific events. The main results show that 78% of the professors have less than 15 years of teaching experience, with ages under 44 years of age and 38.9% of them with an undergraduate academic level, 62.5% of whom responded that they have never published in indexed journals, and that they do not know the proper application of paradigms and research designs. On the other hand, 23.86% of the total citations are self-citations. Therefore, the results reflect a significant relationship between the research culture of professors and Latin American scientific production. Finally, Latin American professors have found themselves in economic, political and social circumstances that affect good research and scientific publication practices, leaving a training gap in research competencies in the new digital era. BIBLIOMETRICS , *BIBLIOGRAPHIC databases , *CITATION indexes , *ALTMETRICS , *HETEROGENEITY , *CORPORA - Abstract
Bibliometrics is facing an intricate universe of data that is constantly changing and expanding, with a wide ecosystem of data sources in which it is easy to get lost. In this complex setting, APIs are positioned as the perfect solution to deal with this heterogeneity and to obtain adapted data. Although APIs have not come as a surprise, it is now time to highlight their value and promote their use, which will make them easier to utilize. In this paper we therefore take a practical approach to APIs in the bibliometrics field. To this end, we provide an introduction to APIs and the new work processes that their use entails. We also offer a corpus in which we compile 49 APIs of interest to bibliometricians, organized by type and access, as well as programming packages in R and Python that facilitate their use. BIBLIOGRAPHICAL citations , *SOCIAL sciences education , *CITATION indexes , *CITATION analysis , *EVALUATION research , *NEW product development , *CITATION networks ,RESEARCH evaluation - Abstract
Within the current panorama of science evaluation, the limitations of citation indexes to study the social sciences and humanities have been the subject of wide debate. To resolve this situation, different products have been created for use in national contexts, since they cover certain aspects not contained in more international indices. An example is the In-RECS family, where an indicator such as the impact factor of Eugene Garfield is defined, but its contribution lies in the ability to evaluate research in Spain by obtaining citation indicators. This paper thus highlights the need to create new products for research evaluation in general, but particularly in the social sciences and humanities. The context in which different alternatives arise and are developed to evaluate existing journals is presented, along with Dialnet Metrics, a citation index developed by the Dialnet Foundation in collaboration with the EC3 Group and dozens of Spanish universities. Based on an analysis of the citations of source journals from different subject areas, Dialnet Metrics provides indicators to evaluate the research impact at different levels. This bibliometric product enables contextualized analysis at the micro (researchers), meso (journals), and macro (areas and universities) levels. Finally, the content, data volumes, and structure of this citation index are described quantitatively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
