The article offers information on the Dominican government's presentation of the Santo Domingo Integrated Transportation System (SIT-SD), a project addressing traffic congestion and mobility issues in the capital city, with an estimated investment of 3.2 billion dollars. This paper analyzes a number of variables that could significantly influence-both positively and negatively-the vehicular transit volume of toll highways in Chile. The study covers the period between 1997 and 2010, and considers all toll roads of the country which were in operation during these years, including urban motorways, those of Route 5 North-South national highway and Transversals. Unlike other research, we considered regional variable built according to the geographical location of each highway. The results show that the variable which primarily explains the behavior of traffic is the region's GDP, which is completely related to the particular economic cycle affecting the country and the region.
