Objectives. Explore how the content of the articles published by the Pan American Journal of Public Health during its 100 years of existence has aligned with the key health issues of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Methods. A bibliometric analysis was carried out, with visualization of its results. Information on articles published in the Journal was retrieved from PAHO's Institutional Repository for Information Sharing (IRIS) for the first 75 years and Scopus for the last 25 years, until February 2022; References to Governing Bodies documents and statements by the directors were used to establish PAHO's key themes. Results. Initially, 12 573 publications were obtained and 9 289 were considered for analysis for the period 1922 to 1996, and 3 208 for the period 1997 to 2022. For the bibliometric analysis of the Scopus information, indicators such as the authors and their origin, language of publication, and number and origin of citations were considered. For the visualizations, publications were divided into five periods so that they coincided with the periods established for the analysis of PAHO's priority themes. Keyword co-occurrence maps were made to observe the evolution of published topics and relate them to public health approaches in each period. Conclusion. The topics published in the Pan American Journal of Public Health and its precursor bulletins reflect the history of regional public health and its evolution over time, as well as the key health issues of the Pan American Health Organization. NURSING , *SERIAL publications , *HUMANISM , *COMMUNICATION , *INTERPERSONAL relations , *PATIENT-professional relations , *PHILOSOPHY - Abstract
The term care derives from the Latin "cogitatu", referring to something thought and imagined, to dedication and zeal. Health care permeates the theoretical and practical model, considering the individual as a whole and not only the health-disease process, and has been identified as an object of nursing. In this context, the importance of ethics for health self-care is discussed, moving away from the hegemony of the normative referents that dictate how relationships should be in the field of health, taking as a theoretical reference the analysis of ethics, knowledge and power realized by the philosopher Michel Foucault. In this sense, it is essential that there is clear and effective communication between these actors, so that the care is carried out effectively. Therefore, it is increasingly important to discuss these processes of nursing care practice, ethics, humanization and communication, so that more knowledge can be acquired on the subject and thus understand its importance. JOURNAL writing , *PERIODICAL articles , *SERIAL publications , *COMMUNITY relations , *ELECTRONIC journals - Abstract
Introduction: bibliometrics is a means of situating the production of a country in relation to the world, an institution in relation to their country and scientists in relation to their own communities. Objective: analyze the scientific production contained in the journal "Acta Médica del Centro" in the period 2007-2019, through bibliometric indicators. Methods: the application of metric techniques led to obtaining data from a quantitative point of view on the production of the magazine in all the years it was published. The following were determined as indicators: productivity by years, authors, articles produced / cited, percentage of inbreeding, occasional or transitory authors, transience index, distribution of authors according to their productivity, most cited authors, hindex, producing institutions, typology of articles and keywords. Results: 2011 was the most productive year and 2014 was the most cited. The author with the highest productivity index was Dr. Luis Alberto Santos Pérez. 346 transitory authors were found for a transitory index of 67%. 95% of the authors have published between 1 and 4 articles in the journal. 34% were original works. Conclusions: the journal kept oscillating the number of works published per year. There is no presence of editorial inbreeding. The visibility of the journal's scientific production is 32% and the authors' h-index is very low. Scientific production is mainly centered on authors from the "Arnaldo Milián Castro" Clinical-Surgical Hospital, which is why institutional inbreeding is observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SERIAL publications , *CITATION networks , *SCIENTIFIC method , *SOCIAL context , *KNOWLEDGE representation (Information theory) , *INTERDISCIPLINARY research , *COMMUNITY of inquiry - Abstract
Objective: the current study aims to analyze the behavior of scientific production on three bibliometric analysis techniques: co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and terms co-occurrence. Methodology: the Web of Science is used as data source. Productivity and impact measures are used to characterize the behavior of each technique practices. Two new indices to determine the multidisciplinary scope of research are proposed, which are complemented by documentary analysis to interpret the results and establish the reference frameworks. Results: the leading authors, institutions and countries are identified, as well as the number of serial publications where the research was disseminated, and the Web of Science subject categories where they are classified. The growing evolution of the literature that uses these techniques for the representation and analysis of knowledge domains was evidenced. The technological domains predominated in the thematic production core, although in the thematic citations core there was also the presence of biomedical, economic and social environments. Conclusions: the existence of a highly productive core of institutions and countries evidences the sustained, intensive and extensive use of these techniques, given the global community recognition of their importance and validity. The proposed indicators allowed to identify the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of the scientific production related to these analytical techniques. In this way, the influence of metrics and their techniques is made visible, which transcend the limits of the knowledge domain that originated them, from theoretical and meta-theoretical proposals through multiple disciplinary spaces. SERIAL publications , *PERIODICAL articles , *CITATION analysis , *IMPACT factor (Citation analysis) , *DESCRIPTIVE statistics - Abstract
Background: Mexico is one of the countries with the highest scientific productivity in Latin America. One Mexican journal with a long history of publication is Archivos de Neurociencias (Arch Neurocien). Arch Neurocien evaluates its performance through citation-based indicators. A well-known indicator is "Impact Factor?" (IF). IF reflects the average number of citations received by articles published in journals indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports (JCR). Other similar indicators exist, like CiteScore and Scimago Journal Rank (SJR). Among them, IF represents the "gold standard". Arch Neurocien is not indexed in JCR. Aims: In the present study, an Estimated Impact Factor (EIF) for the journal was calculated. Method: The methodology from Clarivate Analytics was used. Results were compared with other indicators to obtain a quantitative diagnosis of journal's scientific impact. Results: Arch Neurocien showed an average of 0.39 citations/article. Most citations to Arch Neurocien appear in the same journal (self-citations), followed by Revista de Neurología (Spain) and Revista Mexicana de Neurociencias. Average EIF was 0.027±0.005. The highest EIF was 0.068 in 2001. EIF was significantly correlated with CiteScore (r=0.916, r²=0.840, p=0.010) and SJR (r=0.736, r²=0.543, p=0.001). Conclusion: Several strategies to improve the quality of its published articles are suggested, such as performing a complete revision of its editorial committee, promoting open access to its publications and developing strategies for its mass distribution. MUSICAL composition , *SERIAL publications , *HISTORICAL libraries , *ROSARY , *COMPOSITION (Language arts) , *ORGANS (Musical instruments) - Abstract
This article contributes to reconstructing the history of one of the largest pipe organs brought to the country in the xix century: the organ of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá. Based on bibliographic, newspaper, documentary, and testimonial sources, it presents data about the Amezua house, as well as information about the role played by people such as the presbyter Lorenzo de Elcoro and don Juan Suárez Elcoro. It is mainly based on research works on Spanish organ building at the time, as well as on serial publications from the end of the xix century and texts on the history of the Virgin of Chiquinquirá and her Sanctuary. The article confirms the existence of four of these organs in Colombia. It also presents unpublished photographs, one of which could be the oldest visual record that exists of the organ in the Bogotá Cathedral (1891) and its first performer. Finally, it also alludes to the first chapel master of the Basilica of Chiquinquirá and to some musicians who succeeded him in this profession; at the same time, it emphasizes the importance of the first musical compositions written in honor of the Virgin of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá and encourages the retrieval of this historical musical archive. Currently nursing seeks its consolidation as a theoretical scientific field, that of "care", distancing itself from the socalled biomedical sciences. And although, for some time now, nursing theorists have approached the analysis of their disciplinary status, they have not yet reached an agreement, which means that the discussions multiply from the different conceptions of the philosophy of science. Among the theoretical-philosophical articles published in high-impact nursing journals, a work that seeks to shed light is highlighted, using as an epistemological framework both Kuhnian notions and those of metatheoretical structuralism. The present work analyzes the use of concepts such as "paradigm / disciplinary matrix", "model", "theory" and its adaptation in the aforementioned work, trying to clarify those aspects that are still obscure. In this article are studied 12 issues of the Jerezana Medical-Surgical Gazette, corresponding to the years 1871 and 1872, published in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) by its founder and director "Francisco Revueltas Carrillo Montel" (1839-1887). In this journal are offered clinical histories of the Departments of Surgery and Medicine of the Hospital of Santa Isabel de Jerez, as well as others of the private clinical experiences by some authors, as the surgeon, from El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), Federico Rubio y Galí (1827-1902). It is also appreciated in the journal the practical teaching work carried out in those years, in the above mentioned hospital, to some students from the Cádiz Faculty of Medicine who also published their clinical experiences in the Gazette; and we have also known that "practicante" an midwives were trained in this hospital. The magazine offers statistical information about the hospital, the hospice, the home of foundlings and the sanitary status of the city. In our work we carry out a chronological index of the 12 issues of the journal, which includes the authors, articles and news published. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim was to identify relevant points in the bibliography of the Brazilian nurse Glete de Alcântara. It is a historical study of biography, which used documentary analysis. A vast documentary corpus was located, with emphasis on her memorial (1963 résumé), 54 publications, as well as articles and books mentioning her career. Through the Rockefeller Foundation, she graduated as a nurse at the University of Toronto-Canada. She initially taught at the University of São Paulo's School of Nursing, Brazil, received her BS degree in Social Sciences, at the same university and with a grant from the Kellogg Foundation, in 1951, obtained a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. In 1952 she was chosen to create and manage the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing, where she remained for almost two decades as its dean. Her outstanding performance as president of the Brazilian Nursing Association, only ended with her death in 1974, while in the second term as national president of the entity, where she contributed to the scientific and legal advancement of Brazilian nursing. As a leadership model and dedication for the Nursing class Glete de Alcântara has left a great legacy of struggle for Nursing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article we study the context in which the poem "Amor de Caridad" by Gerardo Diego was presented. The poet, born in Santander, dedicated the poem to San Juan de Dios and won, in 1950, the Floral Games which took place in Granada, on the occasion of the fourth centenary of the death of the saint. The bases, the convocation and the decision of the jury, that awarded first prize to Gerardo Diego, are exposed. Second and third prizes were won, respectively, by Manuel Benítez Carrasco and Francisco Romero López. We also offer comments about the poem and its transcription as it was published in the magazine "Peace and Charity" (1950). In the complete works of the poet this poem appears with the title "To San Juan de Dios". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Communication becomes an essential area for public health, given that its actions are often pure communicative acts when not interventions that need to rely on them to modify or settle behaviors and attitudes. In the present investigation we ask to what extent public health publications insert articles in which communication is the protagonist axis and, if so, what is their typology and methodological approaches. It is an exploratory research in which the methodology used is content analysis; to carry it out, an automatic and manual review of the texts that have been submitted to the study was carried out. The sample includes all the articles published in public health journals (18) of SCIELO's platform between 2005 and 2015 (both included). Of the total number of articles (19.886), those characterized as 'communication' by the own platform were selected (n=124). Among the results, we highlight that only 0.62% of the articles focus on the field of communication. The majority (n = 114) are original articles and are generally empirical studies and quantitative research predominates; in 14 articles no methodology is specified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the process of infant feeding throughout history, one of the options has been the support by wet nurses, in both household and institutional level. This social figure has been reflected in press and can be studied in terms of its representation. We set as our goal to acquire a social vision through the analysis of a corpus of documents from the newspaper ABC of Madrid between 1903 and 1920. The method used has been the search of the term wet nurse through the review and content analysis of the ABC, in news, advertisements and other references in the period indicated. 999 documents have been recovered and analyzed, 41% corresponding to wet nurses offers and demands, 24% to advertisements and products related to food and/or food supplements. The remaining records correspond to economic measures, legislative rules, references to wet nurses of royalty or social references. Qualitative content analysis clarifies the social vision of wet nurses in society at that time. The study concludes that wet nurses are presented as a normalized social figure and as such is reflected in the press, which will also reflect the negative view of these women influenced by the hygienist current. - Abstract
Objective: To describe the scientific production by nursing professors at a private university in the city of Medellin as evidenced by research articles published in scientific journals. Methodology: Bibliometric descriptive study in which the information source consisted in articles published. Variables related to professor profile, thematic and methodological characteristics of the studies, and the journals in which they were published were measured. Univariate and bivariate analysis was performed using SPSS. Results: Forty-two articles were reviewed, amongst which pediatrics and addictions were the most frequently studied subjects. Over 60% of publications were between 2011 and 2015; the average number of publications was 3 per year; the publication rate was 1.5 articles every 10 years/teacher. Quantitative approach and descriptive studies were predominant; there was no use of nursing theories; 19.5% of the articles had been published in one journal and only 38.6% of the articles had been published in nursing journals. Conclusions: the generation of knowledge by teachers identified issues such as low scientific production, the need to address a wider variety of topics, and the need for stronger qualitative studies which favor a broader development of knowledge and accommodate postgraduate training programs supported in scientific production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. The objective of this study was to investigate the funding received by papers of excellence on smoking at the global level between 2010 and 2014 through the Web of Science, and to find out if funding is associated with greater impact. Method. We searched the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) through the Web of Science platform on 20 May 2015 (typology consisting of originals and reviews for the period from 2010 to 2014). The search strategy was “smok*” OR “tobac*.” To select the papers of excellence, we picked those that had an h index (i.e., number of articles having at least that many citations) from among the papers in the overall sample generated by the strategy. Results. Of the 193 papers of excellence on smoking that were identified, 158 had received funding from 279 different financing institutions that intervened 522 times. The funding came primarily from government agencies, private foundations, and the pharmaceutical industry. Public funding declined and private funding increased over the years included in the analysis. Receipt of funding was not associated with greater impact at a later date. Conclusions. Most of the papers of excellence on smoking received external funding primarily from government agencies, private foundations, and the pharmaceutical industry. Public funding has decreased, while private funding has increased. Receipt of funding was not associated with greater impact at a later date. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HEALTH , *SERIAL publications , *STATISTICS , *INFORMATION resources - Abstract
Health Communication should be more carefully than other types of communication, because it affects to the most sensible part of each person, our own life. That's the reason why those who work in this field should be careful. We have not learned the uncertainty and, in general, we don't know how to understand statistics, and in the health field there are more probabilities than certainties. This is why behind each health message, we can find numbers. The data in health information is abundant, and this is why it's essential to have a broad knowledge on how to interpret statistics. We don't need to say that a study confirms, rejects or supports a hypothesis, it's needed to have more study data, to know if they are right or not, to be able as information professionals to differentiate between what is good to what is bad, the good source from the bad one. To explore both the text and the context helps to avoid the most common mistakes, and also how not to trust the preliminary information and to judge what goes against common sense. For example, than an animal is considered a human being in scientific research. A cell is never a patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
