The article summarizes the contemporary advances of Costa Rican psychologists' political influence based on papers and actions that produced an impact on public policy. Political stands, such as right-wing, center- and left-wing, are defined, since they must be taken into consideration to understand the relationship between psychologists and social issues. Some examples of social movements related to Psychology are as follows: Women's rights, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, Children and Teenagers' Rights, Men's rights, Labor rights, rights of the indigenous population, rights of those diagnosed as "mentally ill", rights of sexually diversity groups, rights of migrants, and the right to psychological support during and after natural catastrophes. Professional associations have a duty to use their knowledge to express their opinions on national problems, such as the Costa Rican Psychology of Liberation Group does, in providing a good example of political ethics.
