The article presents a series of four analysis papers from a meeting of the Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLASCO), discussing the transition to democracy in Paraguay after the overthrow of Paraguayan dictator Alfredo Stroessner in 1989. The political, cultural, social, and economic dimensions of the transition from authoritarianism to democracy are explored in Paraguay and compared to similar processes in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile.
