Infrared thermography has emerged as a promising technique for non-invasive detection of anomalies in breast tissues, reflecting changes in heat emission and temperature patterns. This article presents a proposed protocol for capturing mammary thermographic images in women of reproductive age, with the aim of enhancing evaluation and diagnosis in this population. To conduct this research, a comprehensive literature review was carried out across various scientific databases, taking into account relevant factors such as study type, target population, measured variables, and obtained results. A computational tool was developed for processing the thermographic images that were obtained following a proposed protocol, which is derived from the technological surveillance commented in the document. The methodology includes exclusion criteria to select effectively the patients, the precise instructions for the patient preparation before the exam, and the considerations about the exam environment to assure precision in the thermographic measures. Furthermore, a procedure for image capturing was established using a mechanical base design to position the patient in front of the thermographic camera. Finally, the thermographic image processing allowed to distinguish a frontier between the days of the menstrual cycle of the evaluated women, where it is presumed that there is no representative difference between the corporal temperature during the menstrual cycle. The primary goal of this research study is to develop an integrated emotion recognition system for domestic service robots. To build and train the model, this study uses the Dense Convolutional Network (DenseNet) and the Ryerson Audio-Visual Database of Emotional Speech and Song (RAVDESS). The recognition system is composed of two emotion recognition loops that estimate every state from a multimodal perspective. The first loop uses the face to establish an emotional state from facial features, while the second uses the voice. The results of laboratory tests show high performance of the system thanks to a model that provides information when the other is incapable. Such interaction allows the possibility of integrating additional modules to increase the robot's reliability. The use of floating-point units (FPU) in digital signal processing has increased due to the range and the high precision numbers that can be represented. These units are required in image processing, digital filters with infinite impulse response (IIR), finite impulse response (FIR), and digital controllers, to obtain accurate results and avoid unstable responses, however, to implement them, some processors have built-in units, this implies a technological dependency of the manufacturers when prototypes are developed. To avoid such dependency, this article presents the design of modules for the most used operations in digital signal processing: multiplication and addition/subtraction. To be able to implement these operations in any Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), the steps and considerations to be aware of are presented, such as exceptions, rounding, and normalization of operands. The diagnostic image must be carried out with the minimum necessary exposure of the patient that allows the objective of the diagnosis to be satisfactorily achieved. For this reason, diagnostic reference levels emerge and are established as dynamic tools to help optimize radiation protection, contribute to the standardization of practices and strengthen culture of safety, without compromising the clinical purpose of each examination or process. The objective of this work is to provide an updated overview of the establishment and use of these levels for nuclear medicine and hybrid imaging. It is identified that to establish and use them properly, trained personnel and coordination and collaboration activities are required among multiple actors, including medical services, health authorities, professional organizations and regulatory bodies. The accelerated development of technology generally exceeds the change in regulations, so these levels must be updated periodically, in order to fulfil their role as a guide and spur for optimization. The worldwide expansion of hybrid technologies and their growing use are a phenomenon of the last decade, so the establishment of these levels for such technologies has not been consolidated, although countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia show solid steps in this address. Research has been carried out with phantoms and directly with patients, the latter with a more useful contribution of information. 13. An approach to edge detection in medical imaging through histogram analysis and morphological gradient.

Edge detection takes importance in image processing systems for computer-aided diagnosis, where sharp changes in pixel intensity are analyzed to obtain fast and accurate information about regions of interest to the specialist. A method for feature enhancement and edge detection in medical images was developed using image processing by analyzing the pixel distribution histogram and morphological gradient operation. Images from the MINI MIAS dataset and the COVID-CT dataset were used. The method is based on image processing and is applied to mammography and chest CT images, where blur filtering steps are accompanied by morphological gradient filtering, in addition to obtaining the threshold for edge detection by analyzing the point of maximum pixel concentration according to the distribution histogram. The processing is presented in a graphical user interface developed in Python language. The method is validated by comparison with other edge detection techniques such as the Canny Algorithm, and with deep learning methods such as Holistically-Nested Edge Detection. The proposed method improves image quality in both mammograms and CT scans compared to other techniques. It also presents the best performance considering internal and external edge detection, as well as an average response time of 1.054 seconds and 2.63 % of Central Processing Unit requirement. The primary objective of this research study is to develop a mobile application that measures coffee bean moisture by using image processing, supervised learning, and computer imaging. Coffee beans must have moisture content between 10% and 12% to certify their quality. An image database is built, imaging protocols are defined, and an algorithm is developed and integrated into a mobile application that coffee growers can use. Testing and sampling is conducted using mid to lower end cell phones. The software is validated both in the laboratory and in the field, proving to be 99% efficient. The digital image app's acceptability is over 80% among coffee growers. It is concluded that machine learning processes can be adapted to solve coffee farming and agroindustry challenges. - Abstract
Background: liver segmentation using computed tomography data is the first step for the diagnosis of liver diseases. Currently, the segmentation of structures and organs, based on images, which is carried out in the country's hospitals, is far from having the levels of precision obtained from modern 3D systems, it is necessary to search for viable alternatives using the PDI on a computer. Objective: to determine an effective and efficient variant from the computational point of view in routine hospital conditions, for the segmentation of liver images for clinical purposes. Methods: Two modern segmentation methods (Graph Cut and EM/MPM) were compared by applying them to liver tomography images. An evaluative and statistical analysis of the results obtained in the segmentation of the images from the Dice, Vinet and Jaccard coefficients was carried out. Results: with the Graph Cut method, in all cases, the desired region was segmented, even when the quality of the images was low, great similarity was observed between the segmented image and the reference mask. The level of visual detail is good, and edge reproduction remains true to the reference skin. Image segmentation by the EM/MPM method was not always satisfactory. Conclusions: the Graph Cut segmentation method obtained greater precision to segment liver images. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

16. Conteo de bacterias y levaduras en imágenes digitales.

- Abstract
Background: In microbiology laboratories, the identification and counting of microorganisms is a common procedure; and although there is a variety of equipment on the market that possibility to carry out these processes automatically or semi-automatically, it is usually expensive to many laboratories. These are some of the reasons why this arduous and difficult task is still performed in many laboratories by experts in the traditional way, through the observation of samples in microscope, consuming a great time and having variations in the results between experts. Objective: The present work aims to propose a new method for counting bacteria and yeasts in digital images, taken under different magnifications, of microbial bioproducts obtained by fermentation. Methods: The sensor used to take images of the samples was a digital camera model HDCE-X, with a ½" CMOS sensor, with a resolution of 2592 pixels by 1944 pixels (5 Mp). Two types of magnifications were used: 40x magnification (PL40, 0.65 numerical aperture and 0.17 working distance) and 100x magnification (HI plan 100/1.25 with oil immersion). The proposed method is based on digital image processing technics, using tools as contour detection, morphological operations and statistical analysis, and was developed in Python language using the OpenCV library. The work also presents a comparison with the results obtained using ImageJ software for the same purpose. Results: the detection and count of bacteria was achieved with an acceptable accuracy and precision, in both cases above 0.95; not in the case of yeasts whose accuracy and precision was lower, around 0.78 for accuracy and 0.86 for precision. Workflows based on digital image processing techniques are proposed, using tools as contour detection, morphological operations and statistical analysis. 17. Importancia del procesamiento de imágenes en radioterapia desde la perspectiva del análisis de riesgo.

- Abstract
Background: image processing is the key in planning external beam radiotherapy treatments. In its execution, human errors and equipment failures can occur, which lead, among other effects, to erroneous interpretations of diagnostic images, target contouring errors, overdose of healthy tissues or underdose of tumor tissues, which means putting patients at risk patients subjected to these practices. Objective: to characterize the risks associated with technological and human factors related to image processing that can affect patients undergoing radiotherapy treatments with external beams. Methods: intensity modulated radiotherapy was used as the basis of the study. To characterize the initiators and defense measures related to this processing, risk models were used based on analysis of failure modes and effects and the risk matrix of the reference practice, which were processed with the SECURE-MR-FMEA software. Results: the sensitivity analyzes on the intensity-modulated radiotherapy models showed the effects on the risk of failures associated with image processing. Conclusions: the importance of applying risk analysis in image processing to increase patient safety during external beam radiotherapy treatments was confirmed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Among the different documentary typologies that libraries treasure, are old photographs, which provide valuable information on the urban development of any locality. These historical images represent facts, spaces, constructions that, when treated with the technique of rephotography, allow any observer to combine two times: the past, represented in the photograph, and the present, where he is, favoring the precise reconstruction of the location, and an approach to the facts represented in the image. Hence, this research, through a combination of theory and practice on the Cuban city of Santa Clara, aims to show the importance of using the technique of rephotography, to analyze the transformation that different urban spaces have undergone, establish the comparison, recover the historical memory of disappeared or transformed places, and collect facts about events and transfer them to the present, for dissemination. This research work proposes a control system consisting of a USB digital microscope, a LED lighting base, and a graphical user interface (GUI) developed in ImageJ (open-source software), the main objective in this work is validate metrologically the screws dimensions quality. In the results, the screws length and width, obtained with the proposed system, and the same measurement obtained with a caliper were compared as a metrological validation procedure. Computed tomography is a widely used non-invasive technique for the detection of health problems. Image quality can be affected by ring artifacts due to inhomogeneities in the scanner's detectors. In this research, seven methods for ring artifact reduction were compared: Total Variation Methods (TV), Unidirectional Total Variation (UTV), Directional Sparse Model with L0 Filtering (DL0SM), Anisotropic Total-Spectral Variation Model (ASSTV), Low Range Image Decomposition (LRSID), a Static Method (SGE) and Wavelet and Fourier Transform Filtering (WF) method. These methods are based on the transformation of the Cartesian plane to the polar one with the center of rotation in the center of the same, which are transformed into lines and then these are reduced. They were programmed in MATLAB. Its performance is evaluated from the analysis of four objective image quality metrics, and the subjective criteria of two specialists. The Fourier Transform is applied in the analysis of the surface wear of the annular cam of the highpressure pump DENSO HP3 using the ecological fuel mixture diesel - surfactant - water at 20%, which is an emulsion of two tense-active non-ionic substances during 200 functioning hours at 3000 rpm with inspections performed each 50 hours. The ecological fuel reduces the emissions, enhance the thermal efficiency, torque, and power of the internal combustion motor; as it is shown in the experimental analysis, the precision balance it is detected the reduction of 0.121 grams of mass in the cam, with the digital roughness meter it is determined the roughness Ra on the frontal face of the cam, establishing a 22.23% of wear in relation with the ideal profile of experimentation, for the rear face 40.35% of wear, with the didactic module generated on Matlab for the digital image processing and the Fourier Transform compares the ideal profile and the roughness profile of the annular cam in terms of image frequency, using statistics tools such as the maximum average and the minimum o intensity. The use of the mixture of the diesel-surfactant-water fuel at 20% on the high-pressure pump HP3 generates premature wear on the cam surfaces. With the purpose of generating an investigating contribution, it is included the methodology and the technic of tests and measurements on the dynamometer for estimating the fundamental performance characteristics of the diesel internal combustion motor with this type of fuel. Antecedentes: en espectrofotometría, la selección de la región de interés (ROI) es una técnica comúnmente utilizada para hacer un mejor análisis de la imagen espectral, en este caso, aplicado a características edáficas. El propósito de la ROI es permitir una mejor identificación y caracterización de las propiedades de una muestra de suelo, ya que se pueden obtener datos más precisos y confiables al analizar una parte específica del espectro, permitiendo la eliminación de ruido de la muestra. Objetivo: determinar el rango óptimo y el tamaño adecuado para la identificación de la Región de Interés en muestras de suelo. Se buscó establecer los parámetros ideales para seleccionar y delimitar la ROI con el fin de optimizar los modelos de predicción utilizados y mejorar la calidad de los resultados obtenidos en la estimación de características edáficas. Métodos: se seleccionaron 500 imágenes hiperespectrales capturadas con una cámara SWIR (Infrarrojo de Onda Corta). Para determinar la región de interés (ROI), se utilizó el método de segmentación manual en secciones de diferentes tamaños de la imagen espectral utilizando el software Python. Este enfoque permitió establecer el rango óptimo para la ROI. Resultados: se encontró que el uso de una ROI de tamaño pequeño es efectivo para detectar detalles finos y características pequeñas en las muestras de suelo. Por otro lado, una ROI de tamaño mediano proporcionó una visión general y permitió examinar características de tamaño moderado. En contraste, utilizar la muestra completa en lugar de seleccionar una ROI brindó información general sobre la composición y distribución del suelo. Sin embargo, el procesamiento de la gran cantidad de datos contenidos dentro de la imagen causa que su procesamiento se vuelva más lento. Conclusiones: se concluye que la selección de una región de interés de tamaño mediano, capturando alrededor del 30 % o 40 % de la información de la imagen, proporciona resultados óptimos. Esta elección permite captar la información más significativa sin necesidad de procesar todos los datos de la imagen completa, logrando un equilibrio entre eficiencia y precisión en la caracterización de las muestras de suelo. The exploration of a Data Mining (DM) model, through the use of appropriate visual representation techniques and integrated interaction mechanisms, present advantages for the analyst or data miner when attempting to understand a data model. Currently, there are new proposals for methodologies and visualization schemes to support DM processes, which integrate features that combine DM techniques and ad-hoc graphic artifacts in order to facilitate the analysis and exploration of models, through the use of visualization in the input (exploratory data analysis) of the DM process, then in the model generation process (visualization and exploration of the model and its internal components), and finally in the output of this process (pattern visualization). However, this points to a qualitative and often subjective analysis, which depends directly on the experience and expertise of the analyst or data miner. In order to be able to complement this qualitative analysis, it is necessary to incorporate functions with metrics in the visual scheme that allow to corroborate it quantitatively. This work is oriented in this direction, and describes the definition, adaptation and implementation of a set of metrics that allow to validate and complement the visual analysis of an DM model, by using distance and similarity metrics, applied to the components of the MD model. This work uses as a case study, an DM model generated through the Decision Tree (DT) technique, combined with the Kohonen maps technique or Self-Organizing Map (SOM), applied to the components or nodes of the DT. It is possible to check the validity of the proposed metrics from their application on a known data set from a previously defined DM task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article describes the design and construction of an analyzer that allows measurement in line, the Organic-Aqueous ratio (O/A) and the phase separation time (TSF) in a solvent extraction process. Its principle of operation is based on an automated system that allows samples to be acquired from the process, to be later subjected to a digital treatment of the captured images, procedure by which both measurements are obtained. The results achieved are promising, because the analyzer presents a very good precision for this type of non-conventional instrument. The importance of measuring these operational variables in a timely and accurate manner is emphasized, to avoid operational efficiency losses and maintain the recovery established by design. With this new analyzer, it is intended that mining companies that develop hydrometallurgy, have an online measuring instrument that allows them to improve the operation of the plant, its efficiency and recovery. Conventional or advanced magnetic resonance imaging is fundamental in the evaluation of several types of tumors, including glioblastomas, given the great heterogeneity and invasiveness of these tumors, their management at present constitutes a complex challenge for clinicians and neurosurgeons. This is also true for developers of computer systems oriented to diagnostic support and monitoring. The present system is used to localize and visualize glioblastomas in 11 datasets of public use. It includes a procedure for the evaluation of certain filtering techniques in the enhancement of magnetic resonance images and, furthermore, it integrates the technique of region growth and simple link as a segmentation procedure for filtered volumes. Gaussian, median, and erosion filters are assumed as contrast enhancement techniques associated with magnetic resonance imaging. The evaluation process begins with the establishment of a set of filter configurations which depends on the values and combinations of their input parameters. The established set of configurations is valued from the quantification of a measure of the quality of the enhancement, which is based on a scoring function that groups together a set of previously reported improvement metrics. From the result of the evaluation, it is concluded that the filter with the best performance corresponds to the median. In addition, a graphic user interface is constructed to manage the interaction between the user and the image processing algorithms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to analyze the territorial dynamics linked to changes in land use in the lower Chilca river basin of the Lima region, from 1975 to 2018. The analysis was performed applying qualitative techniques such as interviews to depth, focus groups and timeline workshops with key informants, then it was contrasted with the results of the corresponding satellite image processing, in a GIS environment, according to the CORINE Land Cover model, European model of land cover. The results of the analysis of those 43 years, came to identify that the industrial and infrastructure and urbanized areas are those that have had a considerable expansion; while the coverage of areas without or with little vegetation and agricultural areas were those that have suffered the greatest reduction. This situation has generated a series of dynamics in the territory of the study area, which is manifested in evident processes of territorialization and de-territorialization of activities and socionatural processes such as the threat to the cultural heritage of Bandurria and the sunken farms, increased employment and social problems, among others. The main objective of this article is to implement a tracking algorithm analysis based on computer vision techniques and machine learning to identify, track, and classify different elements and patterns present on a video. There are variations associated with the precision in which these types of techniques are applied to carry out the tracking of moving objects, which can significantly affect capture quality and performance processing used by physical devices. The most used algorithms (SIFT, SURF and ORB) for this type of tracing were analyzed. ORB was the most efficient. It was possible to conclude that the analyses of the models developed showed good results under controlled conditions. Foliar morphometric studies usually are limited by the need of processing many samples. That is why the process automation represents an advantage. We present FoliometriK as an open application integrated into an R app for obtaining automatic morphometric measurements of plant leaves using digital pictures and calibrated with a reference scale. The app allows obtaining eight primary lineal variables (blade area, perimeter, length, maximum width, the height of maximum width and width at three main axis percentile) and four angles (apical, basal and lateral). In basallobed leaves, other variables can be obtained: length from apex to top of the basal lobes, lobes depth, width at petiole, angle between lobes and relative lobes area. From these variables two relative indexes are calculated: a shape index and a lateral asymmetry index. For geometric morphometry analysis we also include principal component scores from contour Fourier descriptors and contour landmarks fixed by radial grid (at constant angles) or parallel grid (equally spaced). Algorithm for image processing and variable calculation was designed in a friendly HTML interface, integrated into an R app, and validated with a 40 leaves sample of Avicennia germinans (Avicenniaceae), obtained from field samples and manually measured, at the same time, with a Vernier caliper and in ImageJ. Differences among manual measures or by ImageJ tools and those obtained by using the R app were less than 3 %, but time of data gather and final variances were markedly reduced. We conclude that FoliometriK application permit to extract in a fast way, with precision and semi automatically a high variety of measurements from simple and relatively symmetric leaves, so it is expected that help to promote ecomorphological, taxonomic or phenotypic trait studies in natural populations. The concentration capabilities of a child depend on his or her age and the normal process is that along with their growth their attention span grows as well; nonetheless, it is important to work on this capability from a young age. The classic board games such as chess, mazes, triqui, puzzles, etc. require a certain amount of mental processes in order to be played and are ideal for keeping the attention of the child for several minutes. This project is an innovative proposal through image processing and width search algorithms; it solves physical mazes created by the players. Video-based eye image acquisition in the visible spectrum for iris recognition has taken great importance in the current context of the extensive use of video surveillance cameras and mobile devices. This modality can provide more information from the video capture of the eye region, but it is essential that the images captured have a quality that allows an effective recognition process. In this work, an approach for video iris recognition in the visible spectrum is presented. It is based on a scheme whose novelty is in the possibility of evaluating the quality of the eye image simultaneously with the process of video capturing. A measure of image quality that takes into account the elements defined in the ISO / IEC 19794-6 2005 standard and its combination with automatic detection methods is proposed. Quality is an important factor when positioning a product in the market, so it is necessary to have an efficient selection process. Currently there are expensive equipment that carry out the selection process that is not accessible to small businesses, it is therefore mentioned that a low-cost procedure is proposed through which the coffee bean selection process can be performed, using a library Real - time image processing for quality selection based on color and size (pixels on screen). A sample of 50kg of coffee was used for manual quality selection based on the proportion of colors (green, red, brown colors), size per grain that is classified into three categories (< 1 cm2, = 1 cm2, > 1 cm2). Then the same process was carried out on the same sample by using the image processing system based on color and size (pixels per screen by rows and columns for the calculation of the area of each grain) by a belt where 3 grains passed per second. The results referring to the color-based quality did not show a significant difference α = 0.05, but with respect to the time used, the selection process through image processing lasted one hour compared to the 2 hours of the manual process, therefore the selection of the Coffee beans using the image processing system is superior to the manual selection process. The paper presents a procedure for updating the mining cadastre in a filling quarry at the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara factory using satellite images and the electronic tablet as a tool for obtaining field information. The proposed procedure was structured in seven steps for the application: First, select the images to be used which must be high resolution (HRS) and cover the entire area to be worked; Second, the photo (CF) control process is carried out, where easy-to-identify points are selected in the satellite images and on the cadastral map, which must be distributed as uniformly as possible. From these photo control points (PCF) their X, Y, Z coordinates are taken. Third, an orthorectified image is created for the correction of the geometry of some elements that cause inaccuracies such as topography, sensors and the geometry of the camera. Fourth, comparison of the orthoimage and the cadastral map, in this step the image is georeferenced with the support of the PCF and is made to coincide with the cadastral map. Fifth, during the rectification of the plots corresponding to the loan or fill quarry, the layers are superimposed and the boundaries of the quarry plots of the map are matched with those of the satellite image and adjusted, if necessary, to what is used is the electronic tablet which has the georeferenced image and all the new elements of the quarry are represented. This paper presents a review of the techniques and algorithms applied to the processing and analysis of twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2DGE) images. With twodimensional gel electrophoresis, it is possible to separate hundreds of proteins in one gel, revealing a distinctive pattern. An adequate analysis of these images is dependent on the protein spots in the image being correctly detected, as mistakes in this phase of the analysis could lead to the detection of false proteins, or to important low abundance proteins being overlooked, which can skew the results of the analysis. Segmentation techniques are used to separate proteins from the background and to find anomalies. The techniques used for 2DGE image segmentation are classified as: edge detection based, morphological, thresholding, and regionbased. Many proteomic studies require the fusion or registration of several images to identify and compare patterns from different samples. For the fusion process, it is possible to use the original image or the segmented image. Despite significant advances in 2DGE image processing, there are no fully automated techniques found in the literature. The commercially available tools for processing and analyzing 2DGE images require the user to set parameters based on expertise, therefore the results of the analysis depend on the correct selection of parameters. In this paper, we review several techniques for processing 2DGE images, with special attention given to segmentation and fusion techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
