Abstract

ABSTRACT In a griculture it is essential to use high-quality seeds capable of expressing their maximum vigour. Image analysis has been used to assess the quality of seed batches. The aim of this study was to characterise seedling growth in the mung bean and the external morphology of the seeds using image analysis, and identify the morphological characteristics associated with high physiological potential. The trial was conducted using two accessions of the mung bean (yellow and green). The 1000-seed weight and germination test were carried out in an initial characterisation. Using image analysis, the following parameters were evaluated in the seeds: area, perimeter, colour, circularity, length and width. In the seedlings, the length and dry matter of the shoots and root system were evaluated together with the total dry matter. A germination of 100% and 89.5%, and 1000-seed weight of 54.91 g and 35.49 g were found for the yellow and green mung beans. In the yellow mung bean, the largest seeds showed a direct relationship with the other morphological parameters of the seeds in addition to a strong relationship between the length of the shoots and the root system. In the green mung bean, there was a direct relationship between seed area and perimeter, length, width and colour; however, the best seedling performance was found in the smaller seeds. The use of image analysis makes it possible to identify seeds of greater physiological potential, which allows more-vigorous batches of mung bean seeds to be selected.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The expansion of the agricultural frontier into different geological environments in the west of the state of Pará, northern Brazil, makes it necessary to know the influence of the parent material on local soil attributes. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different parent materials on five soil profiles along a lithosequence exposed by the BR-163 highway, which runs from north to south through western Pará. The soils were classified, morphologically described and their main horizons sampled for physical, mineralogical and chemical analyses, including the determination of micronutrients, forms of phosphorus and secondary forms of iron. Multivariate analysis was used to group the different soil-parent material associations. The results demonstrated that the diversity of the parent material was a determinant of soil attributes, and was a conditioning factor for the formation of different clay minerals. Multivariate analysis grouped the soils along the lithosequence into a group formed by profiles derived from basic and intermediate igneous rocks, and a second group consisting of profiles derived from sediments and sedimentary rocks. The profile derived from acidic igneous rock showed greater similarity with the profiles derived from sedimentary materials in comparison to those derived from other igneous rocks.

Resumen Introducción. El análisis digital de imágenes (ADI), se puede utilizar para evaluar parámetros de calidad de los granos de arroz, como el porcentaje de grano entero. Objetivo. Cuantificar el porcentaje de grano quebrado total mediante análisis digital de imágenes (ADI) aplicado a la cuantificación de calidad de arroz (Oryza sativa L.). Materiales y métodos. El presente trabajo se llevó a cabo en las instalaciones del Centro para Investigaciones en Granos y Semillas (CIGRAS) de la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), en el año 2021. Se trabajó con muestras de arroz pilado comercial. Se desarrolló una placa muestral para facilitar el acomodo de los granos y adquirir las imágenes digitales. Para los porcentajes de puntilla, grano quebrado y grano entero se utilizaron los parámetros de longitud establecidos en el reglamento técnico de Costa Rica RTCR 202:1998, los cuales se cuantificaron de forma convencional y por medio de imágenes digitales. El ADI incluyó el proceso de segmentación y binarización de los objetos (puntilla, grano quebrado y grano entero), para cuantificar sus áreas y catalogar los elementos identificados digitalmente en valores de peso. Resultados. Se logró cuantificar el porcentaje de puntilla y de grano quebrado con ADI. La correlación entre las variables cuantificadas con ADI con las evaluadas de forma convencional fue mayor a 0,93 para la propiedad de puntilla y de 0,98 para grano quebrado. El análisis convencional requiere entre 1 a 2 horas para determinar el porcentaje de grano quebrado total y demás propiedades de calidad en cada muestra de arroz. El análisis digital requiere de 7 a 23 minutos por placa muestral, para analizar la totalidad de las propiedades evaluadas (puntilla y grano quebrado). Conclusiones. El método de análisis digital aplicado permitió determinar las propiedades de grano quebrado total en muestras compuestas por cientos de granos. Abstract Introduction. Abstract

O uso intensivo dos solos com o cultivo da cana-de-açúcar modifica significativamente as propriedades físicas do solo. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do manejo da cana-de-açúcar com colheita mecanizada sobre a agregação de um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico típico de textura argilosa, situado em Guariba (SP). Foram selecionadas quatro situações (ciclos) com manejo de cana-de-açúcar colhida mecanicamente sem prévia queima: cana-planta e cana-soca de primeiro, segundo e terceiro cortes. Nas camadas de 0-0,10; 0,10-0,20 e 0,20-0,30 m de profundidade foram avaliados: diâmetro médio ponderado dos agregados (DMP), teores e estoques de carbono orgânico do solo. O manejo da cana-de-açúcar com colheita mecanizada influencia o DMP do solo, cujos valores são maiores no manejo envolvendo cana-planta e reduzem com o passar dos anos. Com o aumento da profundidade do solo, os estoques de carbono são mais relacionados à densidade do solo do que aos teores de carbono.The intensive use of land for the cultivation of sugarcane significantly modifies the physical properties of the soil. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the effect of sugarcane management with mechanized harvesting on the aggregation of a typical Oxisol with a clay-like texture located in Guariba, São Paulo. With the sugarcane harvested mechanically and without prior burning, four different situations (cycles) were selected: plant cane, and first, second and third-cutting ratoon cane. Layers at a depth of 0 to 0.1, 0.1 to 0.2 and 0.2 to 0.3 m were evaluated for weighted mean diameter of the aggregates (WMD), and levels and stocks of organic carbon in the soil. Management of cane sugar with mechanized harvesting influences the soil WMD, whose values are greater for the plant cane and go down over the years. With the increase in soil depth, carbon stocks are more related to soil bulk density than to the carbon content.

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a relação entre a estrutura anatômica das raízes de milho e os atributos físicos de solo submetido a diferentes graus de compactação. O estudo foi realizado em campo, no Município de Dourados, MS, em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico, textura muito argilosa. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com cinco repetições. O solo utilizado apresentava histórico de oito anos com plantio direto. A compactação adicional do solo foi realizada por meio de tráfego com trator, com uma (PDc1), duas (PDc2), quatro (PDc4) e seis passadas (PDc6) sucessivas, sobre toda a área da parcela. Houve aumento na razão entre o córtex e o cilindro vascular da raiz com o aumento na compactação do solo. Essa razão correlacionou-se negativamente com a macroporosidade e positivamente com a densidade do solo e com a resistência do solo à penetração. O grau de compactação afeta a anatomia radicular do milho, e a resistência do solo à penetração é o indicador físico que melhor expressa esse efeito.The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between maize root anatomy and physical attributes of soil subjected to levels of compaction. The experiment was carried out in field conditions, in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, in a clayed Latossolo Vermelho (Rhodic Acrustox). A randomized complete block design was used, with five replicates. The soil was cultivated for eight years under no-tillage. The additional compaction of the soil was done by tractor traffic in one (PDc1), two (PDc2), four (PDc4) and six successive passes (PDc6), in the entire area of the experimental plots. Ratio between the cortex and vascular cylinder of the root increased with soil compaction. This ratio was negatively correlated to macroporosity, and positively to soil density and soil penetration resistance. Soil compaction level affects the anatomy of maize roots, and its penetration resistance is the best physical indicator to express this effect.

Abstract

Estudos regionais mais detalhados, utilizando modelos de paisagem e geoestatística, têm demonstrado que, em áreas consideradas homogêneas, sob uma única classe de solo, existe dependência espacial de atributos granulométricos. Visando a avaliar a variabilidade espacial de atributos granulométricos em Latossolo Vermelho eutroférrico, foram feitas amostragens do solo em intervalos regulares de 50 m, em forma de malha, totalizando 306 pontos de amostragem. Foram coletadas amostras nas profundidades de 0-0,2 m e 0,6-0,8 m para a determinação da argila, silte, areia total (AT), areia grossa (AG), areia média (AM), areia fina (AF) e areia muito fina (AMF). Os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva, geoestatística e interpolação por krigagem. Os valores do coeficiente de variação apresentaram-se baixos para argila, médios para silte, AT, AF, AM e AMF e altos para AG. Observou-se ocorrência de dependência espacial para todas as variáveis com grau moderado de dependência espacial, com os maiores alcances ocorrendo na profundidade de 0-0,2 m. Os latossolos, apesar de serem homogêneos, mesmo em áreas de mesma classe de solo e manejo, apresentaram variabilidade diferenciada para os atributos granulométricos.Regional studies where geostatistic is applied for describing landscape models have shown that, even in places previously considered homogenous, different spatial dependencies have been found and these had been related to crop productivity. In order to analyze the physical properties spatial variability models of an eutrudox Red Latosol, a regular grid containing 306 points spaced at separation distances of 50 meters was installed in southern Brazil. Soil samples were collected at 0-0.2 m and 0.6-0.8 m in order to determine clay, silt, sand total, sand thick, sand medium, sand fine and sand very fine contents. Data were submitted to descriptive statistics, geostatistic and in sequence to kriging analyzes. The coefficient of variation of studied properties was low for clay and, medium for silt, sand total, sand medium, sand fine and sand very fine and, high for sand thick. All the spatial variability models had moderate variability dependence, with higher ranges for 0-0.2 m of depth. The results showed that the considered homogeneous characteristics of oxisols submitted to the same soil management is not so evident and spatial variability of texture attributes can be distinguished from each other.

RESUMEN El objetivo del estudio es analizar el efecto que tienen las características físicas de los trabajadores sobre los salarios en el mercado laboral ecuatoriano. Empleando información de los microdatos de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición de Ecua dor para el 2012, se estiman ecuaciones de Mincer en las que se relaciona el ingreso salarial por hora con las características socioeconómicas del trabajador. Como los datos provenientes de encuestas tienen un problema implícito nombrado sesgo de selección, que consiste a la ausencia de aleatoriedad en la escogencia de los indivi duos encuestados, se utiliza la ecuación anti-sesgo de Heckman para corregir este problema. Los resultados evidencian que a mayor estatura, peso o índice de masa corporal se obtienen mayores salarios. Estos resultados son consistentes incluso cuando se diferencian por género, área geográfica y nivel educativo. ABSTRACT The goal of this paper is to analyze the effects that physical characteristics of workers have over wages in the Ecuadorian labor market. Using micro data information taken from the 2012 National Health and Nutrition Survey of Ecuador, Mincer equations are estimated relating the wage income per hour and socioeconomic characteristics of the worker variables. Given that survey data present an implicit problem called selection bias, which consists in lack of randomness within the survey respondents, a Heckman anti-bias equation is used in order to correct this issue. Results show that those taller and heavier individuals, as well as those that have higher body-mass, tend to have higher wages. These results are consistent even between genders, geographic areas and educational levels RESUMO O objetivo do estudo é analisar o efeito que tem as características físicas dos trabal hadores sobre os salários no mercado laboral equatoriano. Empregando informação dos micro-dados da Enquete Nacional de Saúde e Nutrição do Equador para 2012, se estimam equações de Mincerianas nas que se relaciona o ingresso salarial por hora com as características socioeconómicas do trabalhador. Como os dados pro venientes de enquetes têm um problema implícito nomeado viés de seleção, que consiste na ausência de aleatoriedade na escolha dos indivíduos entrevistados, se utiliza a equação anti-viés de Heckman para corrigir este problema. Os resultados evidenciam que a maior estatura, peso ou índice de massa corporal se obtém maiores salários. Estes resultados são consistentes incluso quando se diferencia por gênero, área geográfica e nível educativo.

Abstract

El rendimiento físico y la composición corporal son elementos clave en la desarrollo de la labor operacional del Militar del Ejército de Colombia. El objetivo de este estudio fue establecer la relación entre la composición corporal y el rendimiento físico en los estudiantes de la Escuela Militar de Cadetes General José María Córdova. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo-correlacional donde se valoraron 51 estudiantes del género masculino (cabe aclarar que todos firmaron los consentimientos informados), quienes realizan el proceso de formación en Ciencias Militares en la ciudad de Bogotá D.C. Las características de la población muestran que la edad promedio es de 19,45 años, la estatura se ubicó en 172,6 cm, la masa corporal obtuvo 68,33 kg y el índice de masa corporal se ubica en 22,97. Se analizaron las variables: en primer lugar rendimiento físico, la cual fue evaluada por medio de la directiva 300-7 de 2013 de la JEDOC, valorando el test de navette (9,7), el test de Wells, el test de barras (8,4), los test en un minuto de abdominales (76,7) y flexiones de codo (54,8). La segunda variable, composición corporal, fue determinada a través del modelo tetra comportamental, propuesto por De Ross Guimaraes, resultando la caracterización de la tipología de la población con un 2,0% meso-endomorfo, 49,0% endo-mesomorfo, 15,7% ecto-mesomorfo, 5,9% meso-ectomorfo y 27,5% mesomorfo balanceado. O objetivo deste estudo foi estabelecer a relação entre a composição corporal e o condicionamento físico dos alunos da Escola Militar de Cadetes General José María Córdova. Foi realizado um estudo descritivo-correlativo com 51 alunos do gênero masculino que atualmente encontram-se no processo de formação em Ciências Militares, na cidade de Bogotá, em que todos concordaram com a realização deste estudo, por meio do termo de consentimento. As características da amostra são as seguintes: idade média de 19,45 anos, estatura média de 172,6 cm, massa corporal de 68,33 Kg e índice de massa corporal média de 22,97. As variáveis do condicionamento físico foram analisadas por meio da Directiva 300-7 de 2013 da JEDOC, com os seguintes: teste de navette (9,7), o teste de Wells (…), teste de barra (8,4), teste de abdominais em 1 min (76,7), flexão de braços (54,8). O manejo utilizado para romper a camada compactada deve mobilizar o mínimo possível o solo, além de manter a cobertura sobre o solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da subsolagem, da escarificação e da utilização de mecanismos sulcadores tipo haste na operação de semeadura sobre a manutenção da cobertura do solo, o conteúdo de água e a densidade do solo, assim como os efeitos sobre a produtividade do milho em um Nitossolo Vermelho distroférrico há dez anos cultivado no sistema plantio direto. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos casualisados, contendo oito tratamentos de manejo do solo: subsolagem a 0,40 m antes da cultura de inverno, subsolagem a 0,40 m antes do milho, escarificação a 0,30 m antes da cultura de inverno, escarificação a 0,30 m antes do milho, escarificação a 0,20 m antes da cultura de inverno, escarificação a 0,20 m antes do milho, plantio direto de milho com mecanismo sulcador tipo haste e plantio direto de milho com mecanismo sulcador tipo disco duplo; e quatro repetições. A subsolagem e a escarificação influenciaram a manutenção de cobertura, a densidade e o conteúdo de água no solo logo após a semeadura, porém não interferiram no desenvolvimento das plantas e na produtividade de grãos, na cultura do milho. A utilização de mecanismos sulcadores tipo haste na operação de semeadura não apresentou efeito sobre nenhum dos parâmetros estudados.

The objective of this work was to study soil texture spatial variability from different parent material in Pereira Barreto, SP. An area of 530.67 hectares was mapped through the use of Global Positioning System receivers and obtaining of Digital Elevation Models. A set of 201 soil samples was collected from every seven hectares, at three depths: 0 - 0.25 m; 0.25 - 0.50 m; and 0.80 - 1.00 m. The amounts of sand, silt and clay were obtained by the pipette method and analyzed by both descriptive statistics and geostatistics. Soil textures varied as a function of parent materials and topography.
