Introduction: Glioblastoma Multiforme is a primary neoplasm of the Central Nervous System. They are aggressive tumors classified according to the World Health Organization as grade IV gliomas, with peak incidence by age between 40 and 70 years old, being infrequent in pediatric ages. The prognosis of this entity is unfavorable at any age and life expectancy does not exceed 6 months after diagnosis. Case presentation: 9-year-old female school patient with a history of Neurofibromatosis type 2, with initial diagnosis of Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma that progressed to Secondary Glioblastoma Multiforme. The patient underwent surgery and received the corresponding oncologic treatment. Conclusions: GBM is an aggressive neoplasm with a poor prognosis for life at any age. The presented case is an achievement for Pediatric Neurosurgery in the country, because after 19 months of surgical intervention and oncologic treatment the patient shows a clinical and imageneological improvement.

Reporte de caso de síndrome de pseudo-Duane asociado a schwannoma de nervio abducens y neurofibromatosis tipo 2 (NF2). Este síndrome es raro, caracterizado por limitación en abducción, retracción ocular, disminución de hendidura palpebral en abducción y restricción del recto medial ipsilateral en test de ducción forzada. La NF2 es también una enfermedad infrecuente caracterizada por tumores de sistema nervioso central y periférico. Los schwannomas de nervio abducens son también poco frecuentes, y se presentan comúnmente con diplopia. Se revisan brevemente estas enfermedades. Es el primer caso reportado de pseudo-Duane secundario a schwannoma de nervio abducens y NF2 según nuestro conocimiento.

Introduction: Cochlear implants have been able to treat some types of hearing loss, but those related to cochlear nerve impairment made it necessary to find new ways to manage these deficits; leading to auditory brainstem implants (ABI)., Aim: Our objective is to present the clinical profile of patients treated through an ABI and the results obtained from 1997 to 2017., Material and Methods: On the one hand, patients with statoacoustic nerve tumours (VIIIcranial nerve) were selected, and on the other hand, patients withoutVIII tumours with congenital malformations of the inner ear. Before and after the placement of the ABI, hearing was assessed through tonal audiometry, from which the PTA (Pure Tone Average) and the CAP (Categories of Auditory Performance) scale were obtained., Results: A total of 20 patients undergoing ABI surgery were included. Eight were of tumour cause (40%) and 12 non-tumour (60%). In 15 subjects (75%) a suboccipital approach was performed and in 5 (25%) translabyrinthine. The mean of active electrodes before the implantation of Cochlear® (Nucleus ABI24) was 13/21 (61.90%) versus 8.5/12 (70.83%) of the Med-el® (ABI Med-el). An improvement in the mean PTA of 118.49dB was found against 46.55dB at 2years. On the CAP scale, values of1 were obtained in the preimplantation and of 2.57 (1-5) in the 2-year revision., Conclusion: The ABI is a safe option, and with good hearing results when the indication is made correctly., (Copyright © 2019 Sociedad Española de Otorrinolaringología y Cirugía de Cabeza y Cuello. Introduction and Objectives: To evaluate the results of local control and complications in the treatment of vestibular schwannoma treated with radiation., Methods: A retrospective study of 194 patients diagnosed with vestibular schwannoma, treated consecutively with radiation (either stereotactic radiosurgery or fractionated radiotherapy) from 1997 to 2012. We analyze the local control of tumors, as well as secondary complications to treatment with radiation., Results: A total of 132 (68%) tumors 68% are grade I-II tumors of the Koos classification, 40 (19%) are grade III, and 22 (13%) are grade IV. The tumors associated with neurofibromatosis (NF2), are 3.6% (6 tumors in 4 patients). The tumor control for the overall serie is 97% at 5 years, with a median follow-up of 80.4 months. For large tumors the local control is 91% at 5 years. Free survival of chronic complications is 89% at 5 years. Additionally, 50 tumors were subjected to regular follow-up with MRI without treatment, and 28 (58%) did not experienced tumor growth., Conclusions: Radiation and follow up with MRI, are an alternative to surgery in the treatment of vestibular schwannoma, with a low level of complications inside of multidisciplinary approach., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier España, S.L.U. and Sociedad Española de Otorrinolaringología y Patología Cérvico-Facial.
