La crisis habitacional por la que está atravesando en estos momentos Venezuela nos obliga a buscar nuevas alternativas y métodos más económicos y accesibles para que las personas de bajos recursos puedan resolver de una forma más expedita su problema de vivienda. Una de esas alternativas es hacer uso de la madera y de sus materiales derivados. Por lo que se plantea en esta investigación hacer uso del pino caribe (Pinus caribaea var. Hondurensis) proveniente de las plantaciones de Uverito, y de los tableros OSB (Oriented Strand Board), para elaborar elementos estructurales compuestos que cumplan con la condición antes mencionada, de esta forma, estos elementos se amalgaman para conformar lo que se ha denominado vigas tipo I, pudiendo demostrar que de forma artesanal las comunidades organizadas, equipadas sólo con un martillo, un serrucho y algunos clavos o tornillos pueden obtener un elemento estructural que los ayude a resolver parte de ese gran problema que los aqueja para la elaboración de las estructuras de pisos, entrepisos y techos. Pero como en Venezuela, hasta el momento, no se poseen valores experimentales de este tipo de elemento estructural, que permitan diseñar adecuadamente las estructuras, se hizo necesario elaborar una serie de probetas para realizar los ensayos pertinentes y así poder obtener los valores experimentales de resistencia de este tipo de elemento que permita su uso de una forma adecuada y segura, logrando resultados muy alentadores. Due to the housing crisis that Venezuela is currently experiencing, we are forced to look for novel alternatives so that low-income families are able to readily resolve their housing issues. These methods must be economical and be of easy access to these families. One of the alternatives is to make use of wood and its derivatives. In this study we propose to make use of the Caribe pine (Pinus caribaea var. Hondurensis) originating from the plantations of Uverito and of oriented strand boards (OSB) for the elaboration of compound structural elements that satisfy the aforementioned conditions. These elements are amalgamated to shape them into what is denominated I-beams. Thus demonstrating, in an artisanal manner, that organized communities that are equipped with just a hammer, a handsaw and some nails or screws, could obtain a structural element that would help them solve part of that serious problem that afflicts them in the creation of floor structures, floor framing and roofing. Since in Venezuela we don’t have the experimental parameters needed to properly design structures with this type of element, it was necessary to elaborate a series of test samples and tests so that experimental values of strength could be obtained for their proper and safe use.
