Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) is profoundly impaired by their frailty, disability and decreased physical capacity. Especially among older patients, a high prevalence of low physical activity levels and reduced functional performance has been reported. Physical exercise training has been shown to have a beneficial impact, counteracting these same hazardous consequences of inactivity and sedentarism both on CKD and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients on hemodialysis (HD) treatment. The evidence-based knowledge on the effects of physical exercise on ESKD patients undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) treatment is scarce, even though this is a continually growing population that shares the same risk factors and desired clinical outcomes as the previously mentioned groups of patients. Further investigation will be necessary to clarify whether this exercise-based approach may be suitable for the PD population. This paper's purpose is to review the available literature, including randomized controlled trials, reviews and meta-analysis results that assessed the impact of physical exercise on patients under PD treatment bearing in mind their HRQoL, physical functioning and cardiovascular parameters. Background: Patients with activating somatic mutations in the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) have better clinical outcomes when treated with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKI) over chemotherapy. However, the impact of the use of TKIs on overall survival outside clinical trials is not well established., Objective: To characterize and analyze the overall survival of a Caucasian population with NSCLC and EGFR mutations., Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis of patients with NSCLC screened for EGFR mutations (exons 18-21) between October 2009 and July 2013 was conducted. Clinical and pathological characteristics, mutational EGFR status, treatment and overall survival were evaluated., Results: From the 285 patients which performed screening for EGFR mutations, 54 (18.9%) had mutations, 25 (46.3%) of which in exon 19 and 20 of which (37.0%) in exon 21. The occurrence of mutations was associated with female sex and non-smoking habits (both, P<.001). The median survival of the global population was 12.0 months, with a better overall survival in mutated than non-mutated patients (20.0 vs 11.0 months, respectively; P=.007)., Conclusion: These data contribute for a better knowledge of our lung cancer population concerning the mutational status and clinical outcomes, confirming a better overall survival for the patients with EGFR TKI sensible mutations., (Copyright © 2017 SEPAR. Psoriasis is a common, chronic, inflammatory skin disorder with a physical and emotional burden. Emerging evidence suggests that IL17-A is a key cytokine in the immunopathogenesis of psoriasis. Ixekizumab is a humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody that acts by neutralizing IL-17A. Data from Phase I-III studies reveal that ixekizumab is highly effective in treating patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. A large proportion of patients receiving ixekizumab achieved or maintained complete or near complete resolution of psoriatic lesions with an acceptable safety profile through week 60. These remarkable results introduce a paradigm shift in the medically management of psoriasis, where complete or almost completely clear skin becomes the new therapeutic goal., (Copyright © 2016 AEDV. Psoriatic arthritis is a psoriasis-related spondyloarthropathy that occurs in 20-30% of patients with psoriasis. Various imaging studies have demonstrated that there is a considerable proportion of undiagnosed psoriatic arthritis among patients with psoriasis. Since early detection and treatment of psoriatic arthritis could, ultimately, allow the prevention of clinical and radiologic progression of the disease, there is the need to establish clinical indicators to detect this risk. Nail psoriasis has been proposed as a predictor for the development of psoriatic arthritis. The inflammation involving the entheses, called enthesitis, is an early inflammatory change seen in psoriatic arthritis, and nail changes appear to result from the close relationship between the nail and the enthesis of the distal interphalangeal extensor tendon, one of the main entheseal compartments affected in psoriatic arthritis. As skin lesions precede articular symptoms in more than 75-80% of patients with psoriatic arthritis, dermatologists may play a key role in the early detection and management of psoriatic arthritis., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier España, S.L.U. and AEDV.
