ABSTRACT Objective: To conduct a cross-cultural adaptation of the Preterm Parenting & Self-Efficacy Checklist to the Brazilian Portuguese. Method: A methodological study was carried out with 51 parents of premature infants. Data analysis was based on psychometric and inferential statistical analyses. Results: The instrument content validation by experts obtained excellent agreement (97%) and the semantic analysis by the target population showed good understanding of the terms and ease of use. In test-retest, most participants were female (64.7%); and parents with higher education (47.1%). The instrument showed stability over time, with good internal consistency (α = 0.84). Four factors were generated in the subscales parenting self-efficacy, importance of tasks and self-perceived parental competence (67.0% to 74.2% of the variance). Conclusion: The properties of the Preterm Parenting & Self-Efficacy Checklist – Brazilian Version were maintained, which is a reliable indicator to evaluate the hospital discharge of premature infants.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to compare the parameters of the activity/rest cycle of early postpartum breastfeeding women under a controlled and uncontrolled long wavelength ray light regimen. Methods: quasi-experimental study with breastfeeding women and their babies during postnatal rooming-in, São Paulo, Brazil. Participants were allocated to either an experimental (intervention) or a comparison group. The intervention involved exposure of the woman in a controlled room with artificial long wavelength ray light at night. Each woman’s level of 6-sulfatoxymelatonin at 24 hours and activity/rest times was analyzed. Results: the mean activity/rest times of women in the experimental and comparison groups were similar. The mean percentages of total load of 6-sulfatoxymelatonin during the day and night were similar (p=0.09). At 24 hours, the experimental group presented a significantly lower mean percentage of total load compared to the comparison group (p=0.04). Conclusions: women who stayed in the room with long-wavelength artificial light showed no difference in activity/rest and 6-sulfatoxymelatonin levels in the early postpartum period.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar sete casos de disputa de guarda periciados por psicólogo forense de uma comarca do Sul do Brasil, onde foram observados prejuízos substanciais e ou afastamento na relação entre a criança e um dos genitores. Realizou-se estudo retrospectivo documental no qual levantou-se as categorias mais freqüentemente encontradas nos casos. Observou-se que quando um dos genitores não aceita a separação e fica com a guarda dos filhos, é possível que inicie processo de afastamento da criança com o ex cônjuge o que pode acarretar sérios prejuízos para o desenvolvimento infantil. Os principais prejuízos observados foram: agressividade, depressão, ansiedade, uso de mentiras para se comunicar, rejeitar o genitor não guardião e até mesmo incorporar falas do genitor guardião como se fossem próprias.

ABSTRACT This study analyzed socio-economic factors that influence farmers’ adaptation to climate change in agriculture. Perceptions regarding long-term changes in climate variables and the rate of occurrence of weather extremes were also investigated. Additionally, farmers’ perceived barriers to the use of adaptation practices were identified and ranked. A total of 100 farm-households were randomly selected from four communities in the Lawra district of Ghana and data were collected through semi-structured questionnaires, focused group discussions and field observations. A logistic regression model and weighted average index were used to analyze the data. The results showed that 87 % of respondents perceived a decrease in rainfall amount, while 82 % perceived an increase in temperature over the past 10 years. Results of the weighted average index indicate that dry spell and drought have a higher annual rate of occurrence than flood. Empirical results of the logistic regression model showed that education, household size, annual household income, access to information, credit and membership of farmer-based organization are the most important factors that influence farmers’ adaptation to climate change. The main constraints on adaptation include unpredictability of weather, high farm input cost, lack of access to timely weather information and water resources. The policy implication of this study is that governments should mainstream barriers to, and choice factors of, adaptation practices to climate change related projects and programs.

RESUMO Objetivos: descrever o tempo total de sono e seus respectivos estágios, o tempo total de vigília, os valores da frequência cardíaca, de saturação de oxigênio apresentados pelos recém-nascidos prematuros; verificar a influência dos períodos do dia sobre o sono e os parâmetros fisiológicos. Método: estudo descritivo, conduzido com 13 recém-nascidos prematuros hospitalizados. A coleta de dados foi realizada pelo polissonígrafo e a observação não estruturada, durante 24 horas ininterruptas. Objective to compare two compression times of the radial artery after coronary angiography with customized compressive dressing regarding the occurrence of hemostasis and vascular complications. Method a randomized clinical study was carried out in patients undergoing elective transradial coronary angiography in two study groups: (G30), whose compressive dressing was maintained for 30 minutes, and (G60), whose compressive dressing was maintained for 60 minutes, both until the first evaluation of hemostasis. Variables related to patients, procedure, occurrence of hemostasis, and vascular complications were analyzed. Patency of the radial artery was assessed with Doppler vascular ultrasonography, immediately after removing the compressive dressing and 30 days after the procedure. Results the sample consisted of 152 patients in G30 and 151 in G60. Hemostasis was evidenced in the first evaluation in 76.3% of G30 patients and 84.2% of G60 patients (p = 0.063). There were 91 immediate complications, being 53 hematomas and 38 occlusions of the radial artery. We identified 18 late occlusions, 7 (5.5%) in G30 and 11 (8.2%) in G60. Conclusion the different compression times of the radial artery after coronary angiography did not significantly influence the occurrence of hemostasis and vascular complications. OBJECTIVETo compare the total sleep time of premature infant in the presence or absence of reducing sensory and environmental stimuli in the neonatal unit.METHODLongitudinal study in a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit of a public hospital in Sao Paulo. The sample consisted of 13 premature infants. We used polysomnograph and unstructured observation for data collection. We analyzed 240 and 1200 minutes corresponding to the periods of the presence and absence of environmental management, respectively. Data were compared in proportion to the total sleep time in the two moments proposed by the study.RESULTSThe total sleep time in periods without environmental management was on average 696.4 (± 112.1) minutes and with management 168.5 (± 27.9) minutes, proportionally premature infant slept an average of 70.2% during periods with no intervention and 58.0% without management (p=0.002).CONCLUSIONReducing stimulation and handling of premature infant environment periods was effective to provide greater total sleep time.

ABSTRACT: The present research aims to analyze seven cases of custody dispute verified by a forensic psychologist in a county South of Brazil, where were observed substantial damage and/or alienation in the relationship between child and one of parents. A documentary retrospective study was conducted, which sought the categories most frequently found in each of the cases. It was noted that when one of parents does not accept the separation and remains in custody of children, it is possible this initiates a process of growing apart of the child with the ex spouse, which can cause serious harm to child development. The main damage observed were: aggression, depression, anxiety, use of lies to communicate, rejecting the parent who does not have custody, and even incorporating phrases of the parent who obtained custody as if they were their own.

El estudio verificó niveles de presión sonora en el interior de incubadoras en Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatal, seis meses después de la implementación de programa educativo. Estudio cuantitativo descriptivo realizado en Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatal en el interior de las incubadoras de un hospital. Fueron registradas 151 horas y 30 minutos de niveles de presión sonora en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatal y en el interior de incubadoras en enero de 2009 y 2010. El mayor y menor Leq medios, antes del programa educativo en unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatal fueron 71,0 y 59,0 dBA, respectivamente. Después de la intervención, se registraron en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatal Leq medio entre 80,4 y 52,6 dBA. Dentro de la incubadora, valores variaron de 72,9 a 40,0 dBA para 79,1 hasta 45,2 dBA después de intervención se mantuvo por encima de los valores recomendados. Se encontró que no hubo reducción del nivel de presión sonora después de la intervención. Se sugieren estrategias para la sensibilización del equipo, elaboración de guías, mudanzas arquitectónicas, renovación y/o manutención preventiva de equipamientos.

El presente estudio tuvo por objetivo identificar los niveles de presión acústica en salas de parto y las fuentes que producen ruido. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo, exploratorio. La recolección de los datos se hizo de octubre de 2008 a julio de 2009. Se utilizó un decibelímetro para registrar los niveles de presión acústica y la observación no estructurada para identificar las fuentes generadoras de ruido. Se realizaron 2928 minutos de registros de ruido y observación. Los valores de niveles de presión acústica equivalentes (Leq), fueron calculados por el software Quest Suit. Se identificó Leq promedio de 69,6 dBA (± 3,69) en partos normales y 65,4 dBA (± 2,28) en cesáreas. El diálogo entre los profesionales fue la fuente más frecuente de ruido. Los niveles de presión sonora registrados son superiores a los recomendados por organismos especializados, y la principal fuente de ruido se relaciona con la conducta de los profesionales. Es necesario implementar programas educativos con el fin de minimizar el ruido y mejorar la atención del recién nacido, de su familia y las condiciones de trabajo.

ABSTRACT Objective: Analyze the influence of ear protectors on the baseline levels of salivary cortisol and response and total sleep time of preterm neonates during two periods of environmental management of a neonatal intermediate care unit. Method: A clinical, randomized, controlled and crossover study conducted with 12 preterm neonates. The use of ear protectors was randomized in two periods. Sleep evaluation was performed using one Alice 5 Polysomnography System and unstructured observation. Results: No significant difference was observed between the baseline levels of salivary cortisol and response in preterm neonates from the control and experimental groups, and no statistical significance was observed between the total sleep time of both groups. No relationship was observed between the baseline levels of cortisol and response and total sleep time. Conclusion: Ear protectors in preterm neonates did not influence the salivary cortisol level and total sleep time in the studied periods.
