In diesem Review findet eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Buch von Josef ZELGER über das Textanalyseverfahren GABEK® (Ganzheitliche Bewältigung von Komplexität) statt. Bei den meisten GABEK®-Projekten geht es um die Lösung eines konkreten Problems wie z.B. die Einführung eines neuen Arbeitszeitmodells oder um Stadtentwicklungsprojekte, die Ermittlung von Erfolgsfaktoren für Innovation u.Ä.m. Im Laufe der Jahre haben sich weitere Anwendungsmöglichkeiten entwickelt, zum Beispiel der simulierte Dialog, die Analyse von Träumen oder Kunstwerken. Die Methode kann auch für wissenschaftsnahe Projekte zur Hypothesenentwicklung und -prüfung sowie zur Theoriebildung eingesetzt werden. Das Buch ist umfangreich und versammelt Beiträge aus der 30-jährigen Entwicklungsgeschichte. Als Nachschlagewerk ist es ein Meilenstein für alle, die die Methode erlernen möchte. Dies lässt sich am besten erreichen, indem man sie anwendet. Das Buch kann hierzu als Referenz dienen. Ich schließe den Artikel mit einem kurzen Erfahrungsbericht.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the most important tools of ATLAS.ti Software and to associate them with the procedures of Thematic Content Analysis. Method: It is a theoretical reflection of the Content Analysis phases of Laurence Bardin, associating them with software tools Atlas.ti and showing its usefulness for data analysis in qualitative research. Results: historical contextualization and the available resources of Atlas.ti software with presentation of health research involving the phases of thematic content analysis. Final considerations: The Atlas.ti software assists in the accomplishment of the thematic content analysis being this promising association in health research.

This article is part of a larger experiment where developers of CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data AnalysiS) packages, or those cooperating very close with them, analyzed data based on a common data set. The aim was to find out whether the use of software influences the ways we analyze data and if so how. My argument is that software has a greater influence when users lack methodological know-how. The greater the methodological expertise and confidence in using a certain methodology in the context of software, the lesser is the influence of software. Therefore the focus of my paper is on the methodological approach that I am using when analyzing qualitative data (see FRIESE, 2011). The review discusses two books, both covering very similar contents and addressing more or less the same audience. The book by SAYRE is about the use of qualitative method in marketplace research in general and is aimed at marketing students and practitioners; the book by MORRISON, HALEY, SHEEHAN and TAYLOR focuses more specifically on one area of mar­keting, namely advertising research. MORRISON et al. provide the more practical perspective, a fact that is also reflected in the writing style of the book. It is stimulating to read, even for readers fa­miliar with qualitative methods. It provides insights from the perspective of advertising agency plan­ners and demonstrates how qualitative methods are applied in a commercial context. SAYRE, in comparison, provides more details and builds her book around five theoretical perspectives. It is writ­ten by an academic for a largely academic audi­ence, containing all the basics that one needs to know when embarking on a qualitative research project. It differs from other qualitative method books in that the various steps along the way are illustrated by examples from the field of marketing. The book will, therefore, resonate well with mar­ket­ing students. Nonetheless, both books can be recommended as text books for qualitative method courses in marketing—SAYRE's book for market­ing students in general, and MORRISON et al.'s book for students specializing in the field of adver­tising. When used in a course where students conduct a small scale research project on their own, both books need to be supplemented by further readings or teacher input. Specifically, the sections on qualitative data analysis are too thin in MORRISON et al. and too broad in SAYRE in order to be useful to students without further explanation and training. In this small book, WERNET presents both the theoretical background of Objective Hermeneutics and the practical details of how to use the method. The emphasis throughout is on the description of the technical aspects of this sequential method of text interpretation. The most important theoretical concepts and assumptions are explained in the first third of the book, Chapters 1 and 2. In the remaining 60 pages, WERNET applies the principles of the method by the use of examples. Understanding is greatly facilitated by this way of structuring the book. Even though the examples in the later chapters are easier to read, I would not advise skipping the earlier theoretical part, as important aspects would be missed. The chapters of the book build upon each other and jumping between sections is only advisable after one has read the book cover to cover at least once. The theoretical introduction is followed in chapter 3 by an explanation and application of the most essential technique in objective hermeneutics, the "three-stages" of: telling stories, building readings, and reconstructing a case structure. In chapter 4 a full interpretation or case reconstruction is presented, exemplified by data from an interview with a teacher. In the last five pages of the book, all principles and rules of the method are presented in a condensed format. WERNET's target group is researchers who want to learn more about the method in general and those who plan to choose it as an interpretive tool for their own work. The book succeeds in providing the interested beginner with a good insight into objective hermeneutics, its theoretical underpinning and techniques. Once more experience has been gained, the book is likely to continue to serve as a point of reference. Whether WERNET's introduction also convinces the reader of the method's merits is a matter of personal decision. WERNET does provide answers to a number of issues that have been raised previously. One issue, however, remains unresolved: the stated claim that only when applying the rigorous interpretive techniques of objective hermeneutics is it possible to present social reality adequately. As society transforms and is transformed by new technology, so there are new ways in which qualitative researchers collect and analyse data and new forms of data to collect. This paper sets in context the contributions in this issue of FQS by examining these developments. The spread of video and photographic technology means that images can be used both as sources of data and as tools for data collection. The digital form much audio and video data now takes makes possible new ways of creating, processing and analysing such data. The parallel growth of the Internet also makes available new ways of collecting qualitative data and new settings in which to collect it. However, such developments raise issues about the way researchers collect, process and publish data and how they produce high quality analyses. Digital technology has also meant that new ways of analysing data through computer assisted qualitative data analysis (CAQDAS) are now possible. There is now a range of such software and, in response to demand, developers are still adding new features and functions that researchers need to understand. The diversity of software means that there is a need for standards for storing and exchanging qualitative data and analyses. Nevertheless, there is still much debate about the degree to which CAQDAS can itself produce qualitative analysis or merely assist with its development by human researchers.
