Introduction: Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2J2 is a major enzyme that controls epoxyeicosatrienoic acids biosynthesis, which may play a role in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) development. In this study, we aimed to assess the influence of CYP2J2 polymorphisms with COPD susceptibility., Material and Methods: A case-control study enrolled 313 COPD cases and 508 controls was to investigate the association between CYP2J2 polymorphisms and COPD risk. Agena MassARRAY platform was used to genotype CYP2J2 polymorphisms. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to evaluate the association between CYP2J2 polymorphisms and COPD risk., Results: We observed rs11207535 (homozygote: OR=0.08, 95%CI=0.01-0.96, p=0.047; recessive: OR=0.08, 95%CI=0.01-0.94, p=0.044), rs10889159 (homozygote: OR=0.08, 95%CI=0.01-0.92, p=0.043; recessive: OR=0.08, 95%CI=0.01-0.90, p=0.040) and rs1155002 (heterozygote: OR=1.63, 95%CI=1.13-2.36, p=0.009; dominant: OR=1.64, 95%CI=1.15-2.35, p=0.006; additive: OR=1.45, 95%CI=1.09-1.92, p=0.011) were significantly associated with COPD risk. Allelic tests showed T allele of rs2280274 was related to a decreased risk of COPD and T allele of rs1155002 was associated with an increased COPD risk. Stratified analyses indicated the effects of CYP2J2 polymorphisms and COPD risk were dependent on gender and smoking status (p<0.05). Additionally, two haplotypes (A rs11207535 C rs10889159 T rs1155002 and A rs11207535 C rs10889159 C rs1155002 ) significantly decreased COPD risk., Conclusion: It suggested CYP2J2 polymorphisms were associated with COPD susceptibility in the Chinese Han population., (Copyright © 2020. Background: Infant mortality is an indicator of child health, and an explanatory variable to reflect the socioeconomic development of a country. We aimed to examine the changes and trends of infant mortality in the European Union (EU) and its 28 member states in the 1994-2015 period., Methods: We extracted data of deaths in children aged less than one year between 1994 and 2015 from the Eurostat database. We analysed secular variation in the EU overall, by country and by geographical region using joinpoint regression analysis. We conducted additional analyses to examine neonatal and early neonatal mortality trends., Results: Infant mortality in the EU has declined significantly from 8,3 to 3,6 per 1,000 live births (annual percent change=-3,8%; 95% confidence interval, -4,1 to -3,6). Among EU countries, we found the highest mortality rates throughout the study period in Romania and Bulgaria, and the lowest rates in Scandinavian countries (Finland, Sweden). There were significant decreasing trends in every country of the EU, which were most pronounced in former Soviet Baltic states and Eastern European countries, and least pronounced in Western European countries. Mortality rates have increased significantly in Greece in the last years, and plateaued in the United Kingdom and Ireland., Conclusions: Our findings, which are based on official data, provide consistent evidence that infant mortality has declined steadily in the EU and its member states in the past decades, most markedly in Eastern European countries and former Soviet Baltic states. Introduction: Mediterranean diet is a lifestyle with contrasted beneficial effects on pregnancy, for both the mother and her offspring. However, factors influencing adherence to this diet are unknown., Objective: To investigate the factors (educational level, occupation, place of birth, number of previous children and age) that influence adherence to the Mediterranean diet in pregnant women in the region of Pamplona., Material and Methods: Using the data from the Estudio Internacional de Sibilancias en Lactantes (EISL) in the region of Pamplona, associations between food and factors were analysed. A score of Mediterranean diet was established and the scores according to the factors were studied., Results: Significant differences in the Mediterranean diet score by level of education (p=<0,001), occupation (p=0,015) and age (p=<0,001) were found., Conclusion: Women with better education, better occupation and older show a greater affinity to the Mediterranean diet during pregnancy., (Copyright AULA MEDICA EDICIONES 2014.
