In the field of audiovisual communication, research is being carried out into the advantages of virtual reality to enhance empathy and encourage people's willingness to develop pro-social behaviour. 360o video and immersive consumer media offer qualities that can enhance and reinforce the connection between the viewer and the story in order to generate awareness and social reaction. The aim of this text is to initiate a search for a model of immersive audiovisual storytelling in 360o video production that aims to enhance empathy with what is happening. The work proposes an analytical tool that addresses the role of the spectator and the narrator by analysing the relationship between the audience and the story based on traditional narrative. These criteria are analysed in the documentary 360o Valen's Reef, from the Within platform. The qualitative analysis of the piece identifies key aspects of the language and narrative of the piece and, subsequently, reflects on its effectiveness in the virtual reality format and its capacity as a strategy for generating empathy. Currently, virtual reality technology offers to the audiovisual industry new ways of telling stories. One of the techniques that enables video image recording and its implementation in 3D virtual environments is volumetric capture, which raises an approach between conventional cinema methods and those of fictional audiovisual discourses for VR. In this context, we carry out a previous bibliographical review, to address the study of the applicability of traditional production techniques to virtual reality productions. Subsequently, we designed an analysis model for this type of work, based on the concepts of Heeter (1992), Slater and Wilbur (1997), which is based on the effect of presence as a basis for the immersion of the spectator in the diegetic universe of the VR artworks. The present dessertation addresses the topic of the connections between film and video games and their approach through the use of virtual reality technologies to generate audiovisual discourse. After the appearance of the first film which uses techniques of inmersive stereoscopic image, we reviewd the lastest technological developments and conducted a prospective study of these new possibilities. Once carried out the pertinent analysis, it has been approached this work's hypothesis by setting the challenges that these new convergences bring with, establishing solutions and providing a possible model for implementation., Programa de Doctorado "Territorios Artísitcos Contemporáneos"
