The active skeletal muscle and the maintenance of muscle mass are essential for good health, wellness and disease prevention and treatment. The muscle as an endocrine organ capable of synthesizing myokines, has been documented recently. These peptides are secreted as a response to muscular contractions induced by exercise, and can develop molecular communication with other tissues, improving cardiovascular, metabolic, and mental health. The endocrine function of a muscle continues to be in a constant investigation; however, knowledge up to date urge us to continue promoting physical activity. Additionally, the extended knowledge of myokins is useful to prescribe individualized physical exercise programs to each patient.

Objective: The present study aims to assess the associations of adductor pollicis muscle thickness (APMT) with age, skin color, sexual maturation, anthropometric indicators and physical activity in Brazilian adolescents. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study of adolescents aged 14-19 years. Weight, height, body mass index (BMI), arm circumference (AC), APMT, body fat, fat-free mass (FFM), fat-free mass index (FFMI), sexual maturation, time of physical activity and skin color were evaluated. APMT was associated with categorical variables using Mann-Whitney or Kruskal-Wallis tests and correlated with anthropometric variables using Spearman’s correlation. Linear regression was used with APMT as a dependent and the other variables as predictors. Data analysis was carried out in SPSS® software (version 17.0) with a 5% significance level. Results: 828 adolescents were evaluated, 57.6% female, with a mean age of 16.13 ± 1.20 years. APMT had an average value of 18.0 mm in females and 21.0 mm in males. The measure was greater in males, in more advanced stages of sexual maturation, overweight and physical activity. It presented a moderate correlation with FFM, FFMI, body fat and AC. In the final model of multiple linear regression for females, the variables AC and body fat explain 20.1% of the APMT variability. For men, the variables AC and FFMI explain 30.5% of the APMT variability. Conclusion: It is recommended that APMT be used in a complementary manner in the nutritional assessment of adolescents.

The article discusses a multifactorial approach to the restoration of muscle volume and rehabilitation of football players after sports injuries, which includes the implementation of electric myostimulation in a magnetic field in combination with the effect of electromagnetic radiation of the visible or infrared spectrum on muscles and the area of injury. Comparative studies were carried out in two groups of footballers in rehabilitation after ankle injury rehabilitation. The medical rehabilitation of the players of the 1st group was carried out according to the protocol approved in the center: the MIT-FM apparatus, the protocol for the implementation of rehabilitation provides for the implementation of drug treatment and physiotherapeutic procedures based on the combined use of therapy with electromagnetic waves of the red, blue and infrared spectral range with a power of 50 mW in a pulsed magnetic field of intensity 30 mT and a pulse repetition rate of 9.4 Hz. In group 2, the rehabilitation of footballers after injuries of the lower extremities was carried out according to the protocol developed by the authors: sequential connection of the rehabilitation protocol of the first group and combined magneto-photo electric myostimulation of muscles with myotonic impulses, with a pulse repetition rate of 9.4 Hz. The repetition period of the packs of impulses is 8 seconds with the duty cycle of repetition of the packs of impulses 2. The current strength was set individually for each patient - until the appearance of visible muscle contractions. Muscle photostimulation was performed with electromagnetic radiation of red (wavelength 0.63 μm, power 30 mW), blue (wavelength 0.45 μm, power 30 mW) and infrared (wavelength 0.75 μm, power 50 mW) spectral ranges in constant magnetic field (intensity 30 mT). The first electrode is placed on the muscle's innervation zone. The second electrode provides a combined effect of electrical impulses and optical flux in a constant magnetic field on the abdomen of the muscle according to the labile technique. The time of one procedure was 40 minutes. The number of procedures for a course of treatment is 15. As a result, the analysis of the data obtained (assessment of the quality of life according to the extended table SF-36) revealed a positive dynamics of clinical manifestations in both groups. The main result of the research is the development of a protocol for the rehabilitation of football players after injuries of the lower extremities based on the use of drug treatment, physiotherapy procedures based on the combined use of therapy with electromagnetic waves of the blue and infrared spectrum in a constant magnetic field in combination with muscle electrostimulation, which has a higher level rehabilitation potential versus applicable footballerІ rehabilitation protocols.

Introduction: Instrumentalists are exposed to numerous musculoskeletal disorders (PRMD – Playing Related Musculoskeletal Disorders) or pain (PRP - Playing Related Pain). This condition is an effect of performance requirements, numerous rehearsals and stress. Musicians often underestimate the pain and the first symptoms of the overloads that their body sends them. They usually continue to practice for many hours a day, which only enlarges the damage of tissues. Unfortunately, this approach brings them closer to disability and exclusion from their profession. Aims: Overview of the latest research on concerting musicians. Gathering information on the etiology and epidemiology of PRMD and PRP among instrumentalists. Material and methods: This overview is based on studies from PubMed, ResearchGate and Google Scholar's databases. In order to identify the relevant publications, the search was carried out using a combination of keywords: "musicians", "pain", "muscles". After applying the exclusion criteria, 16 assessed works were selected for the review. Results: The frequency of musculoskeletal disorders related to playing a musical instrument may reach 60%, up to over 80% [1,11,14,25,31-33]. The etiology of these dysfunctions should be associated with the repetitive movements of the upper limbs, either in uncomfortable positions assumed at work or in the specific posture of the body during the performance. One should also remember about the psychological aspect, which is important in understanding the mechanism of overloading and prolonged persistence of pain among musicians. An overview of the literature showed that musculoskeletal disorder concerned women more often than men. The group of instruments that were connected with more frequent occurrence of pain were violins/violas and wind instruments. The most frequently affected body areas were: neck, back, and upper limbs. The information shown above is able to speed up diagnostics as well as proper therapy for professional musicians, which will contribute to their faster recovery. It should also indicate the direction for future research on the prevention of the abovementioned disorders and the ergonomics of the musician profession. Conclusions: Professional musicians are a group particularly exposed to the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders associated with playing an instrument, due to the specific requirements of their work. Looking at the high prevalence of these disorders, it can be concluded that the knowledge about the etiology and the prevention of overload and pain is small, and the instrumentalists themselves do not seek help from specialists. Further research in the above-discussed problem is essential to enhance prevention and ergonomics of musician profession.

Introduction: In recent years, handgrip strength assessment has gained special relevance in health. However, a standardized application protocol that includes warm-up procedures is required to measure it. Objective: To compare the acute effects of four warm-up strategies on maximal handgrip strength (MHS) in sedentary overweight women. Materials and methods: Single-blind, randomized, crossover study in which MHS was measured in 12 overweight women under the following conditions: i) no warm-up (control condition), ii) static stretching warm-up, iii) strength-based warm-up (i.e., resistance band exercise), and iv) isometric squeezing-ball warm-up for the forearm muscles. A Jamar dynamometer was used for the measurements, which were taken on four different days, at 48-hour rest intervals; three measurements were made per hand. Results: MHS mean values were 23.8 and 24.9 kg without warm-up, 20.3 and 21.4 kg after stretching warm-up, 20.9 and 22.9 kg after strength-based warm-up, and 22.0 and 23.0 kg after squeezing-ball warm-up for non-dominant and dominant hand, respectively. No significant differences (p>0.05; one-way ANOVA) were observed between protocols, nor were there differences in MHS in relation to nutritional status, lean mass, or fat mass. Conclusion: Warm-up is not required to measure MHS in overweight sedentary women when three measurements are made.

In Brazil, there are two species of tapirs, the largest land mammals in Brazil, which belong to the order Perissodactyla, as do horses. Our aim was to describe the bone and muscular anatomy of the forearm and hand in T. terrestris and to propose adaptive functions. We used five anatomical specimens donated from a breeder to the Laboratory for Teaching and Research on Wild Animals of the Federal University of Uberlandia after death with no trauma. The bones were analyzed, the muscles dissected, and both described. The bones of the forearm and hand of the tapir are the ulna, radius, Os. metacarpalia, Os. carpi, phalanx and Os. sesamoideum. The muscles are M. extensor carpi radialis, M. ulnaris lateralis; M. flexor carpi radialis; M. extensor radialis communis; M. extensor digitorum longus II, III, IV and V, M. extensor digitorum lateralis; M. extensor digitorum; M. abductor longus; M. flexor digiti superficialis; M. flexor digitalis; M. flexor carpi ulnaris; M. flexor carpi obliquus; and M. interossei and M. lumbricales. Characteristics of bone and muscle structure are adapted to the development of the animal’s niche.

Cuniculus paca (Mammalia: Cuniculidae), or ‘paca’ is a rodent species in great demand for its meat, which has led to domestication and development of paca farms in the Brazilian Amazon region, as well as in other states. Despite the growing consumption of paca meat, knowledge on muscle anatomy is still scarce. An anatomical description of paca forelimbs will form the basis for future zootechnical and veterinary studies, enabling the development of sustainable production in the Amazon region, as well as the preservation of the species. We studied forelimb anatomy in four (04) adult pacas from the Caboclinho Project of Catuaba Experimental Farm (UFAC) under IBAMA authorization n°509309. Specimens were fixed in 10% formalin and thoracic limbs were dissected, after which anatomical descriptions and photographic records were generated. We found that paca forelimb musculature is similar to that of other groups of domestic animals with regard to the origin and muscle insertion.

Muscle tone refers to the state of physiological tension that muscles constantly present, in order to keep these tissues active without generating movement, considered as the intrinsic state of tension at rest. Within it, its properties must be considered, such as stiffness, elasticity or relaxation time, which can characterize pathologies of diverse clinical importance. To date, palpation has been the most followed methodology for its measurement, since technologies such as elastography and tensiomyography require more specific equipment and knowledge. In humans, there are scales that allow subjective assessment of muscle tone; however, they have no validation or application in veterinary medicine. Hence the need to find a way to achieve a quantitative assessment of muscle tone. The myotonometer; MyotonPRO allows the mechanical properties of muscle tone to be translated into numerical values through oscillations produced by a built-in probe. With this base, our objective is to demonstrate the reproducibility and repeatability of this technique in the lateral area of the horse's neck. To do this, we used 9 horses contained in a rack at two winds and set 5 anatomical reference points, repeating the measurements 3 times in one day and 3 times a couple of days later. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that there is good intra-observer repeatability and, although with a lower ICC (intraclass coefficient), good reproducibility despite differences between the sides of the neck. This statement should motivate more in-depth studies to achieve greater certainty in the application of MyotonPRO in horses for a more personalized and effective rehabilitation programming and follow-up in these animals.

A widespread introduction of modern alloplastic materials into the surgical practice has significantly improved the results of surgical treatment of the patients with ventral and postoperative ventral hernia. However, the implantation of synthetic material into the anterior abdominal wall tissues is accompanied by different local reactions, especially when using ‘heavyweight’ meshes that often cause development of complications. The analysis of the results determines the topical issue of this study. Objective. The aim of the study was to conduct a morphometric evaluation of changes in the anterior abdominal wall muscles after the implantation of ‘heavy’ and ‘light’ polypropylene meshes as well as ‘light’ ones in combination with the PRF membrane. Materials and methods. Morphometric study involved analysis of anterior abdominal wall muscles after implantation of ‘heavy’, ‘light’ polypropylene meshes, as well as the ‘light’ ones in combination with the PRF membrane, into the retro-muscular space in light-optical investigation of microslides. The experiments were carried out on 18 mature male Vietnamese pigs, which were divided into 6 groups. Results. In the group of animals 2m significant structural changes of muscles were revealed. The diameter of myocytes increased from (13.50±0.15) to (14.20±0.18) µm. These morphometric parameters statistically significantly (p

In Argentina, the cull cow category is considered a by-product and It is sold at a low Price. However, 50% of the kilograms sold of the current national production of beef correspond to the female category. This situation carries the livestock sector to look for an opportunity to generate alternatives to obtain obtaining products that increase the value of this bovine category. Tannins are polyphenolic compounds of vegetable origins used as forage or as a supplement in bovine production. They allow to improve daily weight increase, they are natural additives and they do not have restrictions when they are used like others have. In the diets supplied to ruminants tannins They could have a positive impact on the quality of the meat. On the other hand, in response to consumer demand for ready-to-eat food, one of the options used by industry is the sous vide process (SV), which consists in “vacuum cooking” followed by refrigerated storage which allows to add a huge value to the product. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of tannin supplementation in the cull cow diet and the length of refrigerated storage on the sensory attributes in the semitendinosus muscle (SD) processed through SV cooking technology. Two treatments were carried out, supplementation with tannins (SCT): sorghum silage with energy / protein supplementation of quebracho (Schinopsis balansae) tannins 2 g/100 g dry matter and supplementation without tannins (SST): sorghum silage with energy / protein supplementation without tannins. In each treatment, 12 Hereford cull cows were used and after they reached the desired body condition (6 mm EGD) they were slaughtered in a local slaughterhouse. SD muscles from left side were removed and frozen. For SV processing, SD muscles were thawed (1 ± 0.5°C), conditioned and vacuum packed in bags suitable for cooking. Cooking was carried out in an autoclave until 70°C - 2 min were reached at the product minimum treatment point (PMT). Subsequently, refrigerated storage (1 ± 0.5°C) was carried out for 0, 7, 14 and 21 days. The sensory profile was made through a quantitative descriptive analysis and the results were analyzed statistically for two-factors variance and Tukey’s mean comparison test (level of significance of 0,05). Flavor, aroma, connective tissue and juiciness were not affected (P>0,05). The interaction between supplementation and refrigerated storage time was significant for initial and sustained tenderness attributes. However, no differences were observed between initial and final refrigerated storage time on initial and sustained tenderness. In general, during all the refrigerated storage time, the cooked beef flavor and aroma scores were kept between 4 and 5. EEA Concordia Fil: Urbani, Valeria Maria. [Abstract] Idiopathic toe gait is a dynamic alteration characterized by the inability of the sufferer to initiate support with heel contact and maintain this contact during the phase of flat footing with the ground. Subjects with this condition have a medical history without stocks of any pathology that can cause said condition. Children with this condition have enough ankle dorsiflexion to be able to walk normally, however, those patients who have a persistent idiopathic toe gait may develop decreased ankle dorsiflexion and the appearance of deformities such as ankle clubbing. The prevalence varies between 7% and 24% in the pediatric population. Currently there is no consensus on whether or not this pathology should be treated. Among the main treatments we will find serial plasters, AFOs, insoles, botulinum toxin injection and the surgical option. Objective: This review is based on the bibliographical analysis to know if there are data that demonstrate the efficacy of stretching of the posterior musculature as a treatment for idiopathic toe walking in children. Methodology: To prepare the study, a bibliographic search was carried out in the following databases: Pudmed, Web of science, Google schoolar and Scorpus; the following keywords were used: “ITW”, “idiopathic toe walking”, “marcha en puntillas”, “estiramientos”, “stretching”, “conservative treatment” and “foot equinus”; and a total of 35 articles were obtained Conclusion: After conducting the review, no significant evidence has been found to support the use of stretching as a treatment for idiopathic toe walking. It is considered necessary to carry out new research that will reinforce the use of these as treatment since they would mean a reduction in the cost of the process and the appearance of adverse effects. With the objective of evaluating physic-chemical and sensorial characteristics of meat from lambs finished in feedlot with diets containing sugar cane or corn silage at two roughage:concentrate ratios, 60:40 or 40:60, 32 non-castrated Ile de France lambs, with 15 kg body weight were used. Animals were confined in individual stalls and were slaughtered at 32 kg body weight. Studied diets and muscles did not affect pH at 45 minutes (6.56) and 24 hours (5.62) after slaughter, water holding capacity (58.38%) or cooking losses (34.04%). Meat color and subcutaneous fat color did not differ between diets, but meat color varied for the muscles longissimus lumborum and triceps brachii. Shear force (1.85 kgf/cm²) was not affected by diets, but it was different between muscles, with values 1.41 and 2.28 kgf/cm² for the longissimus lumborum and triceps brachii, respectively. At sensorial analysis of ovine loin and shoulder, the lambs fed sugar cane and higher quantity of concentrate had higher scores for flavor (8.07 and 8.26), texture (8.53 and 8.53), preference (8.20 and 8.46) and acceptance (8.33 and 8.26), respectively. In the diet for feedlot lambs, sugar cane maintained the physic-chemical quality of the meat, so it can be used in this production phase. When associated to higher quantity of concentrate in the diet, sugar cane improves the sensorial quality of lamb meat.

PURPOSE: to investigate if the literature indicates normal parameters for duration, amplitude and characteristics of the electromyograms of the muscles involved in swallowing (orbicularis oris, masseter, muscles of the suprahyoid muscles and the infra-hyoid region covered by the platysma muscle). CONCLUSION: the search resulted in 33 references, of which only five were within the inclusion criteria. Only one reference was classified with good level of quality by the Jadad scale with modifications. The selected articles cannot point reliable reference values mainly for EMG amplitude and morphology, because they used a inappropriate sampling rate for the EMG recordings that maximizes the achievement of distorted data for the muscle activity. Literature suggests the normalization of techniques for the electromyographic signal due to the variability between and among subjects.

ABSTRACT The active skeletal muscle and the maintenance of muscle mass are essential for good health, wellness and disease prevention and treatment. It has recently been documented that the muscle, as an endocrine organ, is capable of synthesizing myokines. These peptides are secreted in response to muscular contractions induced by exercise, and can develop molecular communication with other tissues, improving cardiovascular, metabolic, and mental health. The endocrine function of a muscle continues to be in a constant investigation; however, knowledge up to date urges us to continue promoting physical activity. Additionally, the extended knowledge of myokines is useful to prescribe individualized physical exercise programs to each patient.

The development of rigor mortis process of butcher animal carcasses directly influencing the meat quality. The characteristics of rigor mortis process in ovine carcass during industrial chilling to obtain the chilled carcasses have been studied in other countries and in Brazil in Santa Ines sheep, but not yet established in F1 Dorper x Santa Inês. Thus, this research was designed to characterize the rigor mortis process of Semitendinosus and Triceps brachii muscles during the industrial chilling and meat tenderness in 10 ovine carcasses. Ten intact male ovines breed were randomly assembled, six of Santa Inês breed and four F1 Dorper x Santa Inês, slaughtered at Campos Slaughterhouse - Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. After exsanguination, were measured temperature, pH and sarcomere length at different times (4h; 6h; 8h; 10h; 12h; and 24h) and shear force or tenderness (48h) of Semitendinosus muscle. In parallel was accomplished the sensorial analysis relationships to instrumental values of this muscle. The chilling room temperature varied between 12.2 °C (4h) and -0.5°C (24h) and the mean temperature of carcasses was 26.80°C and -0.20°C, respectively. The mean initial pH of Semitendinosus was 6.62 and final 5.64 and of Triceps brachii was 6.50 (4h) and 5.68 (24h). The maximum contraction of sarcomere of Semitendinosus occurred at 12th hour (1.50mm) after exsanguination whereas for the Triceps brachii,at the range of the 10th to 24th hours (1.53 to 1.57mm). Semitendinosus muscle shear force and tenderness was similar in lambs of Santa Ines breed and F1 Dorper x Santa Inês, demonstrating that the genetic group did not affect meat tenderness. The sensory panel confirmed the results obtained in instrumental analysis. The correlation of instrumental analysis (shear force) when compared different genetic groups, was found a good inversed correlation (r = -0.87).

The Procyon cancrivorus, as well as its entire family, is an endemic species of the Americas. It is widely found throughout the Brazilian territory and it inhabits all biomes, particularly the cerrado. This study used five adult specimens of P. cancrivorus for the characterization of the leg muscles. The animals were collected on roads (i. e. they had been killed by accident). The muscles were dissected, observing their proximal and distal insertions macroscopically, together with their topographic relationships to the arteries and nerves. The muscles studied are considered muscles of the tibia. The cranial tibial muscles, brevis, longus, long digital extensor and lateral extensor digitorum are craniolaterally distinct in the tibia, and the gastrocnemius muscles, lateral flexor of the fingers, popliteus, flexor digitorum, flexor digitorum and medial tibial flow are located in the caudal region of the tibia. The muscles of this group act as flexors and extensors of the hock joint and as flexors and extensors of the digital joints, except the popliteal muscle that acts as a flexor of the knee joint. The muscles studied were compared with their muscles in domestic carnivores, like the dog and cat, and great similarity was found.

Introduction: Objectives: an expert report is presented on the situation of loss of muscle mass in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), with a proposal of what the clinical approach to this comorbidity should be, based on the evidence from the literature and clinical experience. Method: a qualitative expert opinion study was carried out using the nominal approach. A literature search on diabetes and muscle was made and submitted to a multidisciplinary group of 7 experts who through a face-to-face meeting discussed different aspects of the role of muscle mass in T2DM. Results: muscle mass must be taken into account in the clinical context of patients with T2DM. It has an enormous impact on patient function and quality of life, and is as important as adequate metabolic control of T2DM. Conclusions: in addition to drug therapy and diet adjustments, aerobic and strength activities are essential for maintaining muscle mass and function in diabetic patients. In concrete situations, artificial oral supplementation specific for muscle care could improve the situation of malnutrition and low muscle mass. Measures such as the walking speed test, chair test, or the SARC-F questionnaire, together with the Barthel index, constitute a first step to diagnose relevant impairment requiring intervention in patients with T2DM. This document seeks to answer some questions about the importance, assessment, and control of muscle mass in T2DM.

- Abstract
Objectives: It is known that COVID-19 has multisystemic effects. However, its early effects on muscle tissue have not been clearly elucidated. The aim of this study is to investigate early changes in the pectoral muscle in patients with COVID-19 infection., Materials and Methods: The pectoral muscle areas (PMA) and pectoral muscle index (PMI) of 139 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were measured from chest CTs taken at the time of the first diagnosis and within 6 months after the diagnosis. The effect of the infection on the muscle area was investigated by evaluating whether there was a change between the two measurements. Lung involvement of the infection in the first CT was scored with the CT severity score (CT-SS). In addition, the effects of patients' clinics, CT-SS, length of hospital stay, and intubation history on changes in the muscle area were investigated., Results: When the PMA and PMI values were compared, there was a statistically significant decrease in the values in the control CT group compared to the first diagnosis CT group. The difference was found higher in intubated patients. CT-SS was associated with a decrease in PMI.COVID-19 is one of the causes of acute sarcopenia. Pectoralis muscle is part of the skeletal muscle, and there may be a decrease in the muscle area in the early period of the disease., (© 2023 SERAM. Published by Elsevier España, S.L.U.

Abstract Introduction: Differences in the lateral and medial portions from quadriceps muscular activation during the execution of the jump can become a neuromuscular risk factor raising knee dynamic valgus and increasing the risk for anterior cruciate ligament injury. Objective: To determine the difference in the activation of the lateral and medial vastus using surface electromyography during single-leg jumps in the sagittal and frontal plane in female athletes. Materials and methods: This was a quantitative, cross-sectional study. A total of 64 female athletes participated. We carried out anthropometric measurements, vertical and lateral single-leg jump tests with the evaluation of vastus medialis and lateral electromyographic activation during the tests and iliotibial band flexibility assessment. Results: There was a statistically significant relationship (p≤0.05) between the body mass index, fat percentage, and vertical single-leg jump power. We also found statistical significance (p≤0.05), with greater activation of the lateral vastus in the right lower limb vertical jump and in the lateral jump in both lower limbs. Conclusion: The athletes presented differences in quadriceps activation, showing higher lateral vastus activation in most of the single-leg jumps, both in the sagittal and frontal plane. This may increase the risk for suffering knee injuries during sports practice.

Nicolaus Steno (1638-1686) was an important Danish anatomist and scientist, his work helpedto found some branches of geology. As an anatomist he made multiple contributions: he dis-covered the duct that bears his name in the parotid glands, as well as the duct that excretesthe tears, which at that time was considered to be produced in the brain. He disputed the ana-tomical ideas of the time with his proposals of geometrize myology, of thinking the heart as a muscle and with his contributions to the understanding of the nervous system. In 1667 he con-verted to catholicism and in 1677 he was consecrated as titular bishop of Titiopolis, an ancientcity whose ruins are in Turkey. He spent his last years in poverty, as a missionary in northernEurope. His work and life allows us to see, how he reconciled scientific research and the studyof anatomy with his religious vocation, to made great contributions in different disciplines. In this paper, through a revision of literature, we make a review of his life and his main works.

This review article was conducted to compare magnetic resonance imaging and multislice spiral tomography of floor of mouth anatomical structures; this is a challenging region of oral cavity for dentist since it is made up of soft, vascular, glandular and nervous tissues, in turn lacks bone tissues, making it much more susceptible to pathologies. Therefore, magnetic resonance is the preference study for soft tissues because it allows knowing more easily anatomy and multislice spiral tomography ideal for hard tissues analysis, however floor of mouth can be evaluated without being the imaging study indicated for is. The present work is a compilation of articles in databases and internet in order to compare both: magnetic resonance and multislice spiral tomography.

Predicting response to definitive treatmentsis a fascinating challenge which develops throughthe evolution of a panel of convincing molecularbiomarkers capable of adding in clinical decissionsdespite interpatient and intratumoral heterogenicity.Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) can be locallytreated either with radical cystectomy (RC) with or withoutneoadyuvant chemotherapy or bladder preservationapproaches such as trimodal therapy (TMT) includingmaximal transurethral resection of bladder tumor(TURBt) followed by external beam radiotherapy withconcurrent systemic radio-sensitizing chemotherapy.Conventional or novel/targeted systemic agents areessential parts of perioperative multidisciplinary managementconsidering both neoadjuvant and adjuvantsetting. Advances in molecular biology such as next generation sequencing and whole genome or transcriptomicanalysis, provided novel insights to achieve a fullunderstanding of the biology behind MIBC helping toidentify emerging predictive signatures. Although severalprogresses have been made, real-world applicationof molecular biomarkers in MIBC scenario is hinderedby lack of standardization, and low reproducibility. Inthis review we aim to present the emerging role of novelmolecular biomarkers in predicting response to localtreatments and systemic agents in MIBC.
