Se presenta un método que analiza estadísticamente algunos de los elementos que componen la tectónica de una región, se formula una definición cuantitativa de alineamiento de objetos y se hace una aplicación a la geotermia. El objetivo de este método es señalar los principales sistemas de fracturamiento, las características del vulcanismo en una región, y poder indicar las partes de la misma en las cuales los procesos tectónicos han tenido una intensidad significativamente mayor, o menor, que la común en la misma. Todo ello tratado de manera cuantitativa. La región estudiada en la aplicación está limitada por los meridianos 96º y 99º0 y los paralelos 18º y 21ºN. Está localizada en la parte este de la Faja Volcánica Transmexicana y la corta la Sierra Madre Oriental. En dos aplicaciones sucesivas del método, se encontró que las zonas de 78 km2, con tectonismo intenso son, la correspondiente a los domos Las Derrumbadas y, con tectonismo singularmente intenso, las zonas aledañas al poblado Los Humeros y al Cerro Xalapazco, ambas en la parte centro-sur de la Caldera. doi: https://doi.org/10.22201/igeof.00167169p.1982.21.3.826

A case of Berardinelli-Seip syndrome, a congenital generalised lipodystrophy, is reported. Symptoms first appeared when the patient was 20 years old. She showed severe insulin resistance as well as micro- and macro-angiopathic complications, including chronic kidney disease, which required renal replacement therapy with peritoneal dialysis. The patient's clinical course was reviewed since paediatric age (when initial signs of the disease being already evident) to present time. Berardinelli-Seip syndrome is very uncommon, and the present case is particularly rare because it is the only case (at least as reported in the literature) in a patient receiving dialysis., (Copyright © 2015 Sociedad Española de Nefrología. Introduction: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder which causes an hypercoagulation state characterized by thrombotic events, repetitive miscarriages and the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies. APS may be an isolated disease (primary APS) or associated to systemic lupus erythematous or another autoimmune conditions (secondary APS). Neuropsychiatric manifestations accompanying APS include migraine, epilepsy, chorea, dementia or psychosis. Detailed descriptions of clinical cases are lacking, and correlations between clinical and analytical findings are far from being well known. We review literature concerning neuropsychiatric manifestations in general and psychosis in particular, in patients suffering from AFS., Case Report: A 23 years-old female who presented a primary AFS with a clinical debut consisting of neuropsychiatric manifestations characterized by psychosis (with two delusion episodes) and abnormal movements such as choreiform and hemiballistic movements, initially understood as conversive symptoms., Conclusions: We discuss the pathogenesis of the psychotic and motor manifestations. The etiology is nowadays not completely understood, but cerebral small vessel thrombosis might explain part of the manifestations. We also review the role of antipsychotic and antithrombotic medication for these patients. Currently, our patient remains asymptomatic without any antipsychotic agent, only being treated with antiagregant and antipalludic therapy.

Objective: Our objective was to investigate enteric los of proteins in a group of selected patients, which frequently is not taken into account in the clinical management of these patients., Patients and Methods: We included 20 healthy children (group I), 10 pediatric patients with heart disease (group II) and 20 pediatric patients with gastrointestinal disease (group III). They were selected because a high percentage of them had high right heart chamber pressure and/or lymphatic anomalies or inflammation and/or ulceration of the gastrointestinal mucosa. A double study method was performed, including excretion of fecal alpha-1-antitrypsin and intestinal clearance of alpha-1-antitrypsin., Results: A high correlation between both methods (r = 0.7542, p < 0.001) was found. Normal values were obtained for the excretion of fecal alpha-1-antitrypsin (< 1.6 mg/g of dry feces) and for clearance (< 26.5 ml/day) in group I. Protein-losing enteropathy was diagnosed in 60% of cardiac patients and 35% of patients with gastrointestinal disease when applying the method of fecal alpha-1-antitrypsin excretion and in 50% and 40%, respectively, when using the clearance method. There is a high correlation between the clearance and plasma protein level (r = -0.7162, p < 0.001 for albumin, r = -0.5239, p < 0.01 for transferrin, r = -0.4609, p < 0.05 for prealbumin). The regression line crosses the albumin concentration of 3 g/dl when the clearance is 176 ml/day, a similar result to that seen in adult patients., Conclusions: Protein-losing enteropathy is detected in a high proportion of pediatric patients affected by cardiac or gastrointestinal disease. There is a close correlation between fecal excretion and intestinal clearance of alpha-1-antitrypsin.
