The present study assessed the validity of one of the first autism-specific anxiety measures, the Anxiety Scale for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASC-ASD), and compared its ability to predict parent-reported clinical anxiety to a ‘traditional’ anxiety measure, the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale (SCAS). Whether the inclusion of the child form for each measure improved the predictive ability of the parent forms was also examined. Eighty-seven parents of autistic children, aged 8–12 years, completed the ASC-ASD, the SCAS, and the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ), a screener for autism characteristics. Of these parents, 56 had their child complete the ASC-ASD and SCAS. The children with a reported anxiety diagnosis were rated significantly higher by their parents on both the SCAS and the ASC-ASD compared to the non-anxious children. Pearson’s correlation coefficients indicated that the ASC-ASD had good divergent and convergent validity, as demonstrated by a poor, non-significant correlation with the SCQ and a strong, significant correlation with the SCAS. Regression analyses indicated that while the ASC-ASD was a significant predictor of parent-reported clinical anxiety in autistic children, the SCAS was not. Neither model was improved with the inclusion of the respective child form. This study is the first to demonstrate the ability of the ASC-ASD to predict child clinical anxiety disorder status and adds to the growing body of evidence for the validity of this measure. The findings also suggest that parent reports of anxiety may be sufficient to identify autistic children warranting further clinical investigation of anxiety in this age group.

In Greek mythology Ariadne gave a thread to Theseus to enable him to find his way out of the Labyrinth. Interconnectedness is a thread that enables us to see the congruent elements of a theological response to the abuse crisis amidst a spectrum of diverse areas, and move towards a coherent response. I argue that this is a synodal way of proceeding. Key features of this interconnectedness include: an understanding of authority as service and the importance of the child as agent and teacher. Both of these features find their deepest resonance in the person of Christ who issues a clear injunction to pay attention to the child. Indeed, his own identity is inseparable from his being a child in relationship with the Father - the eternal child, always the Son of the Father. There is, I suggest, a challenge to conversion and transformation for the entire ecclesial community.

A nivel mundial existe una tendencia cada vez mayor de desplazamiento de personas en zonas rurales, particularmente en pequeños asentamientos, a los centros urbanos. Este desplazamiento es más común en grupos de edad jóvenes, afectando industrias tradicionales como la agricultura y sus servicios asociados, amenazando por ende la sostenibilidad de asentamientos rurales. En algunos pueblos de zonas rurales, la disminución de población y reducción de la agricultura ha conducido a su deterioro social y económico. Este articulo presenta el caso de pequeños asentamientos, dos en Italia y dos en Australia en los cuales se ha fortalecido eficazmente la localidad para desarrollar una prospera industria del turismo. Este artículo provee una comparación y evaluación de los registros del número de visitantes y el aporte del turismo en estas regiones, demostrando su éxito y tendencias de crecimiento. También se presenta como a menudo otras industrias, aparte del turismo en conjunto con características únicas o activos de una zona, crean un atractivo importante para los turistas. De este modo se están proporcionando beneficios económicos, sociales y ambientales significativos a estas áreas.
