Objective: To provide a research database of normative documents in Spanish related to human genetics (HG)., Methods: This is a researchable database, where normative texts are related to HG. The ELSI issues are compiled, combining documents with national, regional, and international influence. The selection of these laws is done through a process of rigorous qualitative research. The portal is aimed at the general public, but with an emphasis on decision makers who possess the capacity to formulate policies on matters related to HG. Several normative documents, issued by international and regional organizations, are included, as well as documents of local government agencies of different countries., Results: From the laws and policies available in the database, 39% are decrees of international organizations, 12% are regional normative texts, and 49% are national laws and policies. From all the national legal texts, 48% are laws or policies that belong to Spain., Conclusions: Latin American countries are not adopting a futuristic perspective because they do not regulate or legislate the technology resulting from research in HG. The HumGen Portal is a tool that will help the development of regulatory frameworks in Spanish-speaking countries, which will be suitable to current scientific progress.

To evaluate the benefits of intravenous streptokinase (SQIV) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI), we joined a group of ten Mexican university hospitals, that were coordinated by the National Institute of Cardiology of Mexico. We included patients less than 70 years of age admitted to the hospital with less than 6 hours from the onset of chest pain during their first myocardial infarction. All patients had ST segment elevation of 1.5 mm or more, and none had contraindication for SQIV. They received 1.5 millions of SQIV in one hour. Reperfusion criteria included absence of pain, ST segment reduction and a rapid rise and fall of enzyme levels. Angiographic criterion for reperfusion was the permeability of the affected coronary vessel. Of 66 patients studied, 57 (86%) had clinical reperfusion; of the 24 available angiographic studies, 92% demonstrated reperfusion. Eight (12%) of the patients had minor complications and 7 (10%) had serious complications. There were 0 deaths. We concluded that SQIV is a useful therapeutic procedure, easy to perform in general hospitals.

The behavior of the cardiac rhythm under intense stress was studied with continuous electrocardiographic recording during the first jump with an automatic parachute in 13 members of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México sky diving club. There were 12 male (92.3%) and one female (7.68) with an average age of 22.8 years. A complete clinical history, 12 lead electrocardiogram and a treadmill stress test were performed two weeks before jumping. A two-channel Holter recording system was hooked up 30 min. before boarding the airplane and was turned off one hour later. The heart rate values were compared two weeks prior (64.5 beats/min), before (112.8 beats/min), during (170 beats/min) and after the jump (122.8 beats/min). The mean difference between each phase was statistically significant with p less than 0.001 values. The observed cardiac rhythm was sinus tachycardia in each case. In six cases (43.6%) 22 episodes of sudden decrease of the heart rate were seen and there were no major rhythm or conduction disturbances. The urinary catecholamines were similar in nine cases (69.2%) after the jump (x 51.2 micrograms/100 ml) and two weeks later in four control cases (x 10.3 micrograms/100 ml). We concluded there were no significant rhythm disturbances in the presence of an intense but brief stress condition in young healthy people. This study was classified as longitudinally, descriptive, experimental and projective.
