This research examines passion and self-efficacy through experience and knowledge, as motivational factors that support entrepreneurs within the gig economy (GE). It sheds light on entrepreneurs’ sources of passion in the GE literature. The sample is composed of all the 1164 entrepreneurship activities offered worldwide through Airbnb, Tour by Locals, and Withlocals on 5 May 2022. The study is supported by unsupervised machine learning mod-els and seeks to find latent topics emerging from the analysis of the entrepreneurs’ descriptions and exposes the main correlated clustered dimensions. There are six main motivators behind GE platforms as a first step toward entrepreneurship: Experience, Passion for share, Knowledge, Classic traditions, Empowered community and local activities, and Well-being. It also confirms the correlation between passion and self-efficacy through experience, pointing them as main factors behind entrepreneurship in the GE. Five of the six sources of passion previously pointed by theory were found: Passion for growth, for people, for product/service, for innovation and for so-cial mission. This study discloses self-efficacy and the sources of passion and points directions to practitioners involved in entrepreneurial activities in the GE ecosystem. This work used machine learning models to access quantitatively a paradigm that is inductive by nature. The results point to well-being as a significant factor to be addressed in future research regarding entrepreneurship. This research only studies individuals involved in the GE; as such, further studies should cohort new populations from different fields.

This research explores the repercussions of COVID-19 on global trade and markets during the first half of 2020. The study examines the economic impact of the pandemic on companies, emphasizing the need to rethink the business or redesign it to ensure its response to the challenges that the quarantine represented, as proposed by reengineering in the second half of the 90s of the 20th century. The main objective of this article is to establish a connection between the principles of reengineering and the resilience of startups during the pandemic, reactivating the use of a tool that was used more than 20 years ago. Therefore, the study explores, from a qualitative methodology —with emphasis on documentary research— the relationship between the appearance of the pandemic and the use of some elements of reengineering that can be observed in emerging companies, finding several connections between them. The results highlight how, through reinvention and resurgence, emerging businesses met the challenges of the new normal by maintaining their operations and providing business continuity.

This paper presents the stages of an acceleration program focused on chemical technologies. We demonstrate how this initiative contributes to the creation of new businesses, startups, and technology licensing from research developed at Brazilian universities. The case of the program Escale-se is discussed. There were 66 technologies submitted, and 14 were selected for the pre-acceleration phase. In this phase, various contents were worked on, such as creating a business model and aspects of scaling hard-science technologies. Teams were evaluated by panels with market specialists, and 6 were selected for the second phase: pre-scaling/proof of concept. Here, proponents were encouraged to validate the business model by connecting with potential clients and partners, as well as planning the development and testing of the product in a relevant environment. Finally, one team was classified for the last stage: scaling/go-to-market - where they received R$ 100,000.00 to scale up their technology and create strategies for raising investments. Four of the fourteen technologies selected for the program opened National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) and raised approximately R$ 4.5 M in investments from different sources. These results demonstrate that the methodology contributed to the entrepreneurial development of participating researchers and the raising of funds for the businesses created.

Abstract Purpose: Provide empirical evidence of the impact of perceptual variables and beliefs on a person's decision to join or not to join the group of nascent entrepreneurs. Methodology: Logistic regression applied to the most recent data from nine Latin American countries available in the 2018 GEM survey. Following existing literature, we interconnect perceptual variables with control variables in the form of sociodemographic characteristics. Results: New entrepreneurs tend to depend more on subjective perceptions than on sociodemographic variables. Evidence suggests that having the confidence of possessing the necessary knowledge and skills plus knowing a model entrepreneur are inseparable variables with the greatest impact on the decision to become an entrepreneur. Our results also suggest that entrepreneurial knowledge does not necessarily originate from formal classroom education, as this variable was found to be not significant in the model. This supports the hypothesis that confidence in one's knowledge and abilities result from the contact with other entrepreneurs who serve as role models, instructors and mentors, which is consistent with Social Learning Theory.

Motivated by the desire to generate social transformation, Larissa created the Match & Matters platform to connect agents focused on businesses with a positive socio-environmental impact, aiming to align profit with socio-environmental benefits. Despite the support of senior management at Deloitte, the company where she worked and where she decided to become an intrapreneur, and despite M&M’s potential to integrate business areas, Larissa faced challenges regarding the profitability of the platform compared to the business models already consolidated in the organization. However, she felt anxious about the platform’s future within the company and about how to demonstrate its business potential in an organization with already established niches. Thus, the dilemma was how to maximize the platform’s opportunities and overcome challenges to maintain its viability, balancing positive impact and open innovation within a traditional corporate environment. This teaching case presents Larissa’s journey, highlighting the concepts of: entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship to achieve professional goals; open innovation to create effective solutions; and Sustainability to promote positive transformations, considering the economic, social, and environmental aspects within an innovative business model.

Investigating the antecedents and determinants of entrepreneurial intention is key to understanding the beginning of the entrepreneurial process. There is scarce literature on academic entrepreneurship that identifies the characteristics of an individual in an academic context with the intention of starting a spin-off company. This study explores the association of gender, age, research certification and knowledge area to Academic Entrepreneurial Intention. To this end, data was obtained from the participation of 172 academics at a Mexican university. Through logistic regression, it was possible to find a significant association between age, research certification and certain knowledge areas to academic entrepreneurial intention. This represents a first approximation to identifying the key factors that affect the academic entrepreneurship process, focused particularly on entrepreneurial intention. Entrepreneurship promotes economic growth, particularly in developing economies where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are a significant source of employment and economic activity. However, SMEs in developing countries often face various resource constraints and weak institutions, forcing them to engage in entrepreneurial bricolage behavior by creatively combining existing resources. This study explores the relationship between entrepreneurial bricolage and product, process, and marketing innovation among SMEs in the Philippines. Logistic regression estimates reveal that entrepreneurial bricolage has a significant and positive impact on product, process, and marketing innovation. As entrepreneurial bricolage behavior increases, so does the probability of innovation, highlighting the importance of creative problem-solving in settings with inadequate resources. The study also emphasizes the need for policies that support SMEs by providing enabling resources, such as robust infrastructure and reliable communication platforms, to encourage firm innovation that fosters positive spill-over effects on the broader economy.

Introducción/objetivo: la economía informal se suele presentar como una entrada al emprendimiento, donde el único objetivo para los emprendedores es la de salir adelante, pasando por encima de las leyes impuestas en el país. Este estudio tiene como finalidad determinar la percepción de los comerciantes sobre la relación entre la informalidad de las empresas de la región Lima Provincias y el desempeño de la economía del Perú. Metodología: se desarrolló un estudio cuantitativo, de diseño no experimental transeccional y alcance correlacional. Se elaboró y administró un cuestionario a los dueños de 380 empresas informales ubicadas en la región Lima Provincias, con un margen de error del 5 % y un nivel de confianza del 95 %. Resultados: mediante el estadístico no paramétrico de Rho de Spearman, se halló una correlación negativa y significativa de −0.415 (p < 0.05) para la percepción de la informalidad empresarial y la economía. Conclusiones: se comprobó que a medida que la percepción de los comerciantes de la región Lima Provincias sobre la informalidad empresarial aumenta, la evaluación de estos sobre la economía tiende a disminuir. Introduction/Objective: The informal economy is often presented as a gateway to entrepreneurship, where the only objective for entrepreneurs is to get ahead, bypassing the laws imposed in the country. The purpose of this study was to determine the perception of traders on the relationship between the informality of businesses in the Lima Provinces region and the performance of the Peruvian economy. Methodology: A quantitative study was developed, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and correlational scope. A questionnaire was prepared and administered to the owners of 380 informal enterprises located in the Lima Provinces region, with a margin of error of 5 % and a confidence level of 95 %. Results: Using Spearman’s non-parametric Rho statistic, a negative and significant correlation of −0.415 (p < 0.05) was found for the perception of business informality and the economy. Conclusions: It was found that as the perception of traders in the Lima Provinces Region regarding business informality increases, their evaluation of the economy tends to decrease.

Since the Bologna Process came into force, many Higher Education (HE) institutions have started to include in their curricula professional competences and skills that help to develop entrepreneurship in their graduates in the context of a constantly evolving labour market. Within the framework of Translation and Interpreting (T&I) Studies, although numerous initiatives are being carried out in recent years to improve professional skills and encourage students' entrepreneurial attitudes, several recent research studies show that professional and entrepreneurship contents are not clearly integrated in all undergraduate T&I curricula. This article aims to describe the scene of T&I training in Spain in relation to entrepreneurship between 2015 and 2020. To do so, we will first analyse the concept of entrepreneurship in the current HE framework, paying special attention to its integration into the curricula for translator training in Spain. Subsequently, we will present a specific proposal for the development of employability and entrepreneurship skills in this context, developed at the University of Valladolid over several academic years.

This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the factors impacting entrepreneurial intentions, behaviors, innovations, and senses of self-efficacy in the digital entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through illuminating the roles of ecosystem, entrepreneurial intention, innovation, and education, the study aspires to provide insights into the distinctive dynamics of digital entrepreneurship in this geographical setting. The study makes use of both qualitative in-depth interviews with subject matter experts and quantitative statistical analysis of survey responses. The Saudi digital entrepreneur ecosystem is explored qualitatively through 15 in-depth interviews with industry experts, and quantitatively with 248 survey responses that allow for hypothesis testing using structural equation modeling. The quantitative data in this study was analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results emphasize the mediating roles of entrepreneurial ambition and innovation, highlighting the key significance of the digital entrepreneurial ecosystem in driving entrepreneur behavior. Entrepreneurial education emerges as a powerful element, acting as both a moderator in shaping entrepreneurial success. The research provides useful information about the unique characteristics of digital entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia.

This research analyzes how business models arise for people, specifically civil engineers, who want to start their own business based on construction and who want to establish their own Ecuadorian company. Small, medium, and large construction companies were taken as a reference. For this, surveys were conducted with eight companies, and the questions were based on adequately knowing personal barriers, how they can be overcome, and effectively knowing the value propositions and qualities that should be emphasized. The results obtained from this research show that most people within this industry face different personal barriers, both when wanting to communicate their ideas and when having confidence in themselves. In the same way, limitations were found, as well as how to know how to take advantage of them. Also, thanks to this, it is highlighted that the greatest competitive advantage is creativity and that it is necessary to have superior quality and decent prices both at the public and private level to stabilize at a good level compared to other companies. Finally, it is observed that within large, medium, and small companies there are personal barriers on the part of civil engineers, which disappear on a day-to-day basis, and that the best way to move forward is to try to improve day by day and not remain stagnant with something that can be optimized or improved in several ways.

Objective: to analyze the approach to content related to entrepreneurship in the ethical-political dimensions in curricular documents of undergraduate nursing courses. Method: documentary research, with a mixed approach and descriptive nature, from June 2021 to August 2022, with inspection of the Ministry of Education's website, of the institutions offering Nursing courses in the Northeast region of Brazil. Content and quantitative evaluation using the T-test. Results: the majority of HEIs offered face-to-face courses (94.1%) and belonged to private institutions (64.7%). The subjects mainly covered theoretical topics (94.1%), highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship in the training of nurses. The lexicographic and similarity analysis highlighted the strong link between the words "Entrepreneur" and "Health", highlighting the relevance of these concepts in the training of nurses. Conclusion: The curriculum documents highlight the importance of training nurses in their professional and entrepreneurial roles with competence, taking into account the principles of Bioethics, Morals, Science, and Philosophy.

The purpose of this case study is to present Sellin as a socially innovative enterprise in Uruguay and to contribute to university education in the knowledge of a triple impact business model. Sellin is a platform that brings together micro and small producers from all over the country with the aim of disseminating and marketing their products nationally and internationally. Its purpose is focused on providing them with opportunities for sustainable growth, avoiding territorial uprooting and generating a triple impact. The methodology developed is the case study, with secondary research through field work with semi-directed interviews and analysis of secondary sources. The methodological development includes pedagogical notes and a work plan for the teacher. The case study allowed us to understand that Sellin is a successful social innovation venture that has managed to grow and scale in a sustainable way and that is considering the continuous professionalization of its business model, integrating the challenge of consolidating the sustainability chain by connecting key partners as partners for impact.
