Sporotrichosis is the most common subcutaneous or implantation mycosis in Mexico. The case of a preauricular cutaneous-fixed sporotrichosis simulating atypical bacterial cellulitis is reported in an elderly patient with no history of trauma. The biopsy showed a suppurative granuloma with scarce yeast. Sporothrix schenckii was identified in the culture and confirmed by molecular biology. She was treated with itraconazole and a clinical and mycological cure was obtained. The case of atypical presentation is presented, coming from a semi-arid zone with extreme weather.

Atypical fibroxanthoma is an scarce skin tumor which usually develops in exposed areas of elderly persons. It is very uncommon in the external auditory canal, where it might be wrongly diagnosed as a sebaceous cyst or carcinoma. We report a case of atypical fibroxanthoma of the external auditory canal and review the current procedure for the differential diagnosis of these lesions.

The general pattern of local inflammation in the rat is developed in the pad of the paw. In otorhinolaryngology a model of local inflammation can be reached in the rat ear by means of the production of an auricular chondritis. For that, we have protocolized the methodology. The induction of inflammation is carried out by the substance vegetable carrageenan. It has been verified by histological studies the inflammation generated, as well as studying the action of antiinflammatory, proinflammatory and inflammatory compounds. The inflammation has been measured by nonius and by determination of the activity of the myeloperoxidase enzyme. After these studies we can validate the auricular chondritis in rat as an experimental model of local inflammation in otorhinolaryngology.

The words pseudocyst of the pinna was suggested in 1966 by Engel for those intracartilaginous swellings of the auricula, presenting in young healthy males without traumatic precedents or previous manipulation. The AA. report 4 cases diagnosed and treated in their Hospital Department. A woman, 85, was one of them. Review of the subject's literature.

Account of the case of a little girl of four and a half years brought to the consulting otologist because of her earache, otorrhoea, retroauricular inflammatory swelling and oedema of the external ear canal on left side. Frequency, evolution, diagnostic means and management measures for first branchial cleft are reviewed.

Fibrous dysplasia is a rare disease which occasionally affects the temporal bone. In its monostotic form, only 27 cases have been reported until today. We present a case of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the temporal bone coincident with a cholesteatoma of the EAC, operated on by mean of a modified radical mastoidectomy, with good results.

Pseudocyst of the auricle is a spontaneous intracartilaginous collection of serous fluid in the anterior aspect of the auricle. These cysts occur frequently in young healthy Chinese males. Engel (1966) was the first to report a series of pseudocysts of the auricle in Chinese. Its etiology is unknown, treatment is difficult and recurrence frequent. In the paper a case report is presented and a review of the literature of this rare condition is done.

The A. veteran for its long practice and experience in the surgery of the ear, gives the following hints for the treatment of the cholesteatoma. 1. Total exenteration of the lesion. 2. Avoid and prevent the recurrences. 3. Discard foreign materials, because even giving good results at first, they end with a failure both organic and functional. 4. Spare or improve the hearing, and 5. Finally, having in mind the power of recurrence of the disease the control of the cases should be compulsory during a five year term, for removal pearls or retained secretions.

Two female patients, with similar clinical characteristics, having as only dermatological manifestation large retroauricular plaques, on their surface could be seen many keratinic follicular cysts with an unspecific lichenoid inflammatory reaction. This entity is studied according to the revised bibliography, reaching the conclusion that they are real infundibulo-pilous cysts in plaques, with a very peculiar localisation, which are not red lichen planus. The authors think that this affection should be considered as an autonomous anatomo-clinical entity.

The purpose of this paper is to study 33 cholesteatomatous patients with surgical treatment. We report individual and predisposal factors concerning these patients, as well as their clinical and radiological data. Histologic study these cholesteatoma was carried after surgical removal, using conventional staining (H-E, A-B, fluorescence, etc.) and a new technique to observation the namely EPU (Epithelial Proliferative Unit).

Two cases of chromomycosis of unusual location, one in the face and other in the auricular area, are reported. Though these two areas are highly vulnerable as far as trauma is concerned, the literature reviewed includes few cases in these areas.
