Considering the enormous challenges cities face due to the climate crisis dramatically and urgently affecting Brazil, as seen recently in Rio Grande do Sul, in this editorial we discuss the administration’s contributions in reflecting and acting on urban management and governance. RAC has pioneered addressing conceptual boundaries, interdisciplinary approaches, and the relationship between theory and practice, valuing knowledge production that can help confront contemporary challenges. In this context, discussing the role of administration and its contribution to urban management is essential to inspire professors, researchers, and professionals in our field to co-create more resilient, fair, and sustainable cities.

Abstract Scholars and managers have long discussed the best profile for successful leadership, which can influence employee performance and organizational growth. Despite leadership being the focus of many studies and continuous training, what explains leaders’ effectiveness within institutions and companies remains unclear. To better understand this phenomenon, we perform a comprehensive review of empirical studies and theoretical essays (N = 93) exploring the application of neuroscience in an organization’s practices and leaders’ development. We conducted a systematic review using these references and built narrative arguments organizing understudied areas and defining a process to classify and integrate trends. The study is different from previous research in identifying groups of research areas such as the biological, brain, psychological, management, emotional, and cognitive approaches, as well as research topics such as culture, decision-making, engagement, ethics, and human development. Moreover, we suggest a theoretical framework comprising those approaches and the main research topics to stimulate the move of the field forward. The article contributes to the literature by organizing the state of the art of research and presenting neuroleadership as a construct. We conclude with suggestions for future research that we hope will address existing gaps and contribute to building relevant theories and policy recommendations.

Objective: the paper introduces a framework for conducting interpretive research using deep learning algorithms that blur the boundaries between qualitative and quantitative approaches. The work evidences how research might benefit from an integrated approach that uses computational tools to overcome traditional limitations. Proposal: the increased availability and diversity of data raises the utility of algorithms as research tools for social scientists. Furthermore, tuning and using such computational artifacts may benefit from interpretive procedures. Such circumstances turn the traditional debate between quantitative and qualitative research on its head: the research strategy that likely yields the most assertiveness and rigor is the one that may require vigorous hermeneutic effort. Along these lines, neural word embeddings can be instrumental in allowing researchers to read the data closely before and after interpretation. Conclusions: to take advantage of the opportunity generated by these new algorithms, researchers may broaden their previous conceptions and adopt a participative point of view. In the coming decades, the interweaving of computational and interpretive methods has the potential to integrate rigorous social science research.

The publishing industry is at a turning point. Facing the first major disruptive innovation in five centuries, its long-established structure and business model are at stake. Building on literature based on the pitfalls for incumbents, we interviewed key executives from the major publishers in Brazil to understand their perspective. We find that not only are they facing those pitfalls, but we also propose a new one, The Industry View Trap, concerning challenges created by convergence, the difficulty to deal with changes in the ecosystem and the fact that the very definition of the industry you're part of might have changed.

Introduction: Obesity has become a serious health problem. It is nowadays considered a pandemia and it is therefore a priority to develop different strategies on its prevention and treatment: lifestyle changes, community interventions as well as pharmacological and non-pharmacological activities. In this way, meal replacement products (energy reduced products designed to replace one or two regular meals providing a supously nutritionally balanced low fat meal) can be an alternative to traditional reduced calorie diet. Objective: Our aim was to revise the literature on meal replacement and compare the nutritional composition and the different forms of presentation of the main meal replacement products commercialised in Spain. Methodology: We made a research in pharmacies, weight loss centers and big supermarkets of food products specially designed to replace a meal. We compared the nutritional composition regarding macronutrients and micronutrients of the thirty-two different products founded, including their different form of presentation (bars, powder, drink-shakes and crackers). In order to judge their nutritional composition, we compared one meal replaced with these products with the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). Results: The most common form of meal replacement products were bars (23 of 32 analyzed products), followed by powder for making shakes (6 products), bricks (2 products) and crackers (1 product). When we analysed a single meal replaced with these products, we founded that the global distribution of macronutrients was: 45% as carbohydrates, 29% as fats, 26% as proteins, and 4.45 grams of fiber. Their average energy was 266 Kcal per meal. Regarding micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), there was a great variability among the different products, but in average their composition was above the 33% of the RDA per meal specially in iron and vitamins B1, B6 and D. Calcium, magnesium, folic acid and vitamin B12 were the micronutrients less plentiful. Conclusion: Partial meal replacement can be an alternative or a complementary therapeutic option to conventional hipocaloric diets in obesity since they appear to have an easier understanding and follow up. It is therefore important to consider them in weight management programs and more studies are required to establish strict criteria on their nutritional composition by a legal normative.

Plataforma.

- Abstract
Objective: Introduction of advanced therapeutic modalities for diaphragmatic congenital hernia (CDH) has allowed to reach considerable improvements in survival rate. Nevertheless, there are few studies which analyze the clinical evolution of the long-term survivors. The aim of this work is to analyze the outcomes of the patients with CDH in our hospital., Methods: Fifty-five neonates with CDH were treated in our center between 1998 and 2005. We included in the study those patients that were alive at the moment of first hospital discharge (72%; n=40 patients). ECMO therapy was needed in 6 of them during neonatal treatment. A descriptive transverse review of the clinical record as well as a telephonic interview to the parents was performed for the respiratory, cardiological, digestive and neurological conditions, following standard diagnostic studies in every case. The mean age of the children in the moment of the study was 4.2 years (1-9)., Results: The 8.3% of the children needed domiciliary oxygen therapy during a maximum of 3 months in all the cases. 22% of the cases suffered from respiratory problems, being bronchiolitis and pneumonia the most frequent diagnoses. Only a patient developed asthma. The gastroesophageal reflux is the most frequent long-term condition (47%), but only 8.3% needs surgical treatment. Regarding to cardiological problems, 14% developed pulmonary hypertension, being slight - moderate in all the cases but in one case who was the only deceased of the series. Regarding to neurological problems only 1 patient developed serious alterations (brain paralysis), having suffered a hemorrhage parenquimatosa during the treatment with ECMO. No other patient presents motor, visual nor auditory alterations in the development, last mild alteration in language (4 patients). Differences do not exist with the group of patients that did not need ECMO during the treatment in cardiological and digestive complications, being higher percentage with respiratory problems., Conclusion: In our sample only 2 patients present serious sequels (5%). Of this preliminary study we can conclude that the comorbility in the CDH is very low having these patient a good development and good quality of life.
