Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) prevalence varies considerable between regions and epidemiology of TRD in Argentina is lacking. Based on the Treatment-Resistant Depression in America Latina (TRAL) study, epidemiology and burden of TRD in MDD patients from Argentina is reported in this paper. A sample of adult MDD patients (n=396) from 5 sites in Argentina, with clinical diagnosis were included. Patients with psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, dementia, with severe chemical dependence or currently participating in another clinical trial were excluded. Patient reported outcomes and clinical assessment scales were used as outcomes. The prevalence of TRD in MDD patients in Argentina is 33.2%, based on TRAL data. Patients in TRD are older compared to those without TRD, and was more evident in married/consensual union MDD patients. Higher suicidality, greater comorbidity based on MINI, and worse scores in MADRS and PHQ-9 were identified in TRD patients. The prevalence identified in TRAL study for Argentina is substantial comparing with other Latin American countries and worldwide prevalence. TRD represents a disproportional burden to society, and efforts should be placed on reducing the burden of MDD and TRD in Argentina by improving early diagnosis, therapeutic management and ensuring that all patients have better access to mental healthcare.

In this paper the historical-epistemological statute of nineteenth-century European positivism is discussed to further develop its scope in the constitution of Science in general and in the conformation of the disciplines tied to the human behavior in the time of the creation of the nation's institutions in Argentina. The ideological bias that this thinking legitimates in key moments of identity construction, such as the Centenary period, is analyzed. Finally, emphasis is made on the incidence of positivism in other countries in the region observing in every case the same ideological bias found in the Argentinean case, tinged by cultural and socio-political variables.

Chagas disease is one of the main endemic illnesses in Latin America. Since 1969 up to the present, the treatment of chronic Chagas patients has been the object of a scientific-medical controversy mobilizing several bodies of knowledge and actors. The resolution of the controversy has direct effects on the health of patients; however, they have been systematically excluded of public debates. In this paper we identified and specified four different steps of the controversy, showing the different positions adopted by the actors implicated, analyzing their statements, the scientific knowledge mobilized during the debates and the consequences for the establishment of norms for the treatment. We conclude showing that what makes up the central issue of the controversy is not what the actors implicated explicitly state as it but the criteria (technical and cognitive) through which are measured and defined "illness" and "cure" states. This research is about a case study in Argentina.

This paper analyzes the changes in Argentine laws regarding migration, mainly in the hundred years since the Argentine Constitution was passed until the 1950s. The different subsequent laws and the debates they caused are related by the author to the political and ideological trends dominating Argentina in that period as to the characteristics and oscillations of the migratory afflux. Further the paper considers Italian laws and migration policies during the same period. The author concludes that after a liberal migration policy in the 19th century, growing legal restrictions and passionate discussion on the role of immigrants followed in this century, particularly between the 2 World Wars.
