Bio-CAD and in-silico experimentation currently have a growing interest in biomedical applications where scientific data coming from real samples are used to evaluate physical properties. In this sense, analyzing the pore-size distribution is a demanding task to help interpret the characteristics of porous materials by partitioning it into its constituent pores. Pores are defined intuitively as local openings that can be interconnected by narrow apertures called throats that control a non-wetting phase invasion in a physical method. There are several approaches to characterize the pore space in terms of its constituent pores, several of them requiring prior computation of a skeleton. This paper presents a new approach to characterize the pore space, in terms of a pore-size distribution, which does not require the skeleton computation. Throats are identified using a new decomposition model that performs a spatial partition of the object in a non-hierarchical sweep-based way consisting of a set of disjoint boxes. This approach enables the characterization of the pore space in terms of a pore-size distribution. computation. In this paper is proposed a novel cooperative Primary User (PU) detection algorithm in multiband environments (Wideband Spectrum Sensing -WBSS) based on Sub-Nyquist Sampling and Matrix Completion. In this way, addressing the problem of large number of samples to be processed when multiband signals are sampled at Nyquist rate or higher rates, seeking to improve the performance of wideband spectrum sensing in terms of detection probability. The simulation results show that the presented algorithm allows the improvement of the WBSS performance in terms of detection probability and the receiver’s operational characteristics compared to other cooperative WBSS algorithms based on Sub-Nyquist sampling.

The increase in demand for data transport through WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks has led to the emerging problems related to finding routes and assigning wavelengths in these networks, which are solved through algorithmic processes. Conventional algorithms only satisfy the conditions of static traffic. However, the heuristic algorithms may be processed in dynamic traffic scenarios. This paper proposes a comprehensive strategy to address DLE (Dynamic Lightpath Establishment), i.e., without dividing the problem, using several heuristic algorithms. The results shown indicate that the heuristic algorithms respond better under stress in dynamic scenarios, but with high network use.

[EN] In this paper adaptable methods for computational algorithms are presented. These algorithms use neural networks and wavelet series to build neuro wavenets approximators. The algorithms obtained are applied to the approximation of signals that represent algebraic functions and random functions, as well as a medical EKG signal. It shows how wavenets can be combined with auto-tuning methods for tracking complex signals that are a function of time. Results are shown in numerical simulation of two architectures of neural approximators wavenets: the first is based on a wavenet with which they approach the signals under study where the parameters of the neural network are adjusted online, the other neuro approximator scheme uses an IIR filter to the output of wavenet, which serves to filter the out- put, in this way discriminate contributions of neurons that are less important in the approximation of the signal, which helps reduce the convergence time to a desired minimum error.

This paper focuses on reducing the computational cost of iterative algorithms used to evaluate the schedulability of Real-Time Systems. These algorithms calculate the worst case response time of each task. Through simulations it is found that the proposed new algorithm produces a significant reduction in the average temporal cost, reaching in some cases a reduction of O(n2) to O(n.log(n)), with respect to classical response time evaluation algorithms. After the detection of internal defects in materials, the characterization of these plays a decisive role in order to establish the severity of these flaws. Finite difference thermal contrast (FDTC) is a new technique proposed recently for contrast enhancement in sequences of thermal images in order to allow the detection of internal flaws in composite slabs with greater probability of success. Besides FDTC, a criterion was also conceived for the estimation of the depth of the detected defects, which brings good results for shallow and strong contrast defects, but poor estimations for deeper and weaker defects. Considering this problem, a revision of the original criterion is carried out in this paper to define a new and robust criterion for estimating the depth of defects, applied after FDTC en-hancement and flaws detection. Results of the execution of the revised algorithm on a synthetized thermal sequence from an artificial CFRP slab (using ThermoCalc6L software) show a better performance of the estimation task, reducing the average relative error by more than half.

[EN] This paper describes a software system for the energy diagnosis of sugar factories that has been developed in the Center of Sugar Technology (CTA). This tool takes data from the real process and uses a stationary model (based in energy and mass balances), data reconciliation algorithms and optimization techniques to calculate non measured variables, eliminate errors in measured variables and obtain index of the energy efficiency. This software must be implemented in different factories in Spain. So a set of tools has been developed to allow a fast configuration and code reuse. In particular, a library of stationary, modular and configurable models of sugar process units has been implemented in an Equation Based Object Oriented Modelling Tool and an adaptable SCADA with specific requirements has been developed., Azucarera Ebro S.L y ACOR.

The selection of the minimal number of observers that ensures the maximum visual coverage over an area represented by a digital elevation model (DEM) have great interest in many elds, e.g., telecommunications, environment planning, among others. However, this problem is complex and intractable when the number of points of the DEM is relatively high. This complexity is due to three issues: 1) the di culty in determining the visibility of the terrain from one point, 2) the need to know the visibility at all points of the terrain and 3) the combinatorial complexity of the selection of observers. The recent progress in total-viewshed maps computation not only provides an e cient solu- tion to the rst two problems, but also opens other ways to new solutions that were unthinkable previously. This paper presents a new type of cartography, called the masked total viewshed map, and provides optimal solutions for both sequential and simultaneous observers location. In this paper, the problem at hand consists in the sizing of an Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA). The Pareto front is introduced as a useful analysis concept in order to explore the design space of such analog circuit. A genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to automatically detect this front in a process that efficiently finds optimal parameterizations and their corresponding values in an aggregate fitness space. Since the problem is treated as a multi-objective optimization task, different measures of the amplifier like the transconductance, the slew rate, the linear range and the input capacitance are used as fitness functions. Finally, simulation results are presented, using a standard 0,5μm CMOS technology.

This paper proposes a new adaptive hybrid filter scheme based on the least mean square and the recursive least square algorithms for uniform linear antenna arrays to generate radiation beam patterns. The individual adaptive blocks used to form the new filter are interconnected by the linear array factor to simulate a virtual antenna array and to set the desired direction of the main beam pattern. The completed formulation of the new filter is detailed and its capability to minimize interference signals and adaptive white gaussian noise is evaluated by simulation and compared with other filters. The simulation results showed that the convergence speed and the filtering characteristics of the new model are better or similar to those that make it. In conclusion, the new scheme can generate the main beam pattern to the desired signal direction.

[EN] This paper presents the generation of encryption keys using the local oscillating properties of the partial sums of Weierstrass-Mandelbrot fractal function. In this way, the security key can be replicated if the parameters used to obtain it are known. Therefore, these parameters can be sent instead of sending the key. This procedure reduces the amount of information to be sent and prevents possible interception of the key. Moreover, the key can not be affected by data loss or pollution. The effectiveness of the Weierstrass-Mandelbrot keys were demonstrated by computer simulation in a 4f optical encryption system and the double random phase encoding technique. These keys allow us to encrypt and to retrieve the information, which is the evidence of their effectiveness for data security. Furthermore, it is shown that if the encrypted data is obtained under an attack, it is not possible to access the information without the security key., [ES] En este trabajo se presenta la generación de llaves de encriptación aprovechando el carácter local oscilatorio y variable de las sumas parciales de la función fractal Weierstrass-Mandelbrot.

Many researchers have explored the relationship between recurrent neural networks and finite state machines. Finite state machines constitute the best characterized computational model, whereas artificial neural networks have become a very successful tool for modeling and problem solving. In the few last years, the neurally inspired lateral inhibition in accumulative computation (LIAC) method and its application to the motion detection task have been introduced. The article shows how to implement the tasks directly related to LIAC in motion detection by means of a formal model described as finite state machines. This paper introduces two steps towards that direction: (a) A simplification of the general LIAC method is performed by formally transforming it into a finite state machine. (b) A hardware implementation of such a designed LIAC module, as well as an 8×8 LIAC module, has been tested on several video sequences, providing promising performance results.

Some of the major computer vision techniques make use of neural nets. In this paper we present a novel model based on neural networks denominated lateral interaction in accumulative computation (LIAC). This model is based on a series of neuronal models in one layer, namely the local accumulative computation model, the double time scale model and the recurrent lateral interaction model. The LIAC model usefulness in the general task of motion detection may be appreciated by means of some signi:cant examples of object detection in inde:nite sequences of synthetic andreal images. c 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
