This paper presents a comprehensive review of the literature on electronic reading (e-reading) versus paper reading. The main objective was to assess the current state of research comparing digital and paper reading outcomes among students aged 6–18 years old, as well as assessing the impact of various factors (gender, socioeconomic status, and school location) in explaining the differences between the two modes. Inclusion criteria included the following: participants (6–18 years), research focus (comparing digital reading and paper reading), study type (quantitative or mixed methods), publication (peer reviewed between 2015 and 2022), and language (English). A systematic search in four databases (WOS, Scopus, ERIC, and JSTOR) in August 2022 was conducted by three reviewers. The search revealed 23 studies matching the inclusion criteria. The findings from the reviewed studies are diverse, with some reporting no significant differences in reading comprehension between the two modes, while others suggest screen inferiority, thereby favoring paper reading. Individual-level predictors, such as prior comprehension skills and reading habits, play a crucial role in determining reading performance across modes. Family-level factors, such as the number of books at home, and school-level factors, like the usage of ICT resources, influence both paper and digital reading comprehension. Moreover, gender differences in attitudes and performance towards different reading modes are apparent. SES is positively associated with reading achievement in both modes, with a larger effect shown for paper reading. Overall, the comparison between electronic and paper reading modes reveals a complex interplay of individual and contextual factors influencing reading comprehension and attitudes.

INTRODUCTION. The twentieth century saw a strong process of medicalization and thetechnification of care. In recent years, we are experiencing a change in the health care model and the concept of humanized childbirth is emerging. A tool to encourage this and avoid obstetric violence is the birth plan. The midwife hasa fundamental role in it.OBJECTIVES. Describe the concept of humanized childbirth care, know the role of the midwife in it and delve into the vindication of women, while identifying the historical evolution on this subject. METHODOLOGY. Bibliographic review through the PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and CercaBib databases. 15 articles were selected and a bibliometric analysis has been carried out using the tool VosViewer. RESULTS. Humanized care is focused on empowering and dignifying women, so they have an active and decisive role and can live the birth process as a positive experience. The birth plan is an instrument that positively influences this process and maternal-fetal outcomes, so its use is encouraged. In addition, midwives are essential in the implementation of humanized care that allows to avoid situations of obstetric violence. CONCLUSION. It is important that health professionals adopt ethical sensitivity that contributes to this respect for women’s autonomy and avoid situations of obstetric violence. It is necessary to change the obstetric model in the training of health professionals so that they become aware and adopt training models that tend to improve the quality of care.

Objective: The need to generate evidence related to COVID-19, the acceleration of publication and peer-review process and the competition between journals may have influenced the quality of COVID-19 papers. Our objective was to compare the characteristics of COVID-19 papers against those of non-COVID-19 papers and identify the variables in which they differ. Method: We conducted a journal-matched case-control study. Cases were COVID-19 papers and controls were non-COVID-19 papers published between March 2020 and January 2021. Journals belonging to five different Journal Citations Reports categories were selected. Within each selected journal, a COVID-19 paper (where there was one) and another non-COVID-19 paper were selected. Conditional logistic regression models were fitted. Results: We included 81 COVID-19 and 143 non-COVID-19 papers. Descriptive observational studies and analytical observational studies had, respectively, a 55-fold (odds ratio [OR]: 55.12; 95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 7.41-409.84) and 19-fold (OR: 19.28; 95%CI: 3.09-120.31) higher likelihood of being COVID-19 papers, respectively, and also a higher probability of having a smaller sample size (OR: 7.15; 95%CI: 2.33-21.94). COVID-19 papers had a higher probability of being cited since their publication (OR: 4.97; 95%CI: 1.63-15.10). Conclusions: The characteristics of COVID-19 papers differed from those of non-COVID-19 papers published in the first months of the pandemic. In order to ensure the publication of good scientific evidence the quality of COVID-19-papers should be preserved. Resumen: Objetivo: La necesidad de generar evidencia relacionada con la COVID-19, la aceleración del proceso de revisión por pares y publicación, y la competencia entre revistas, pueden haber influido en la calidad de los artículos sobre la COVID-19. El objetivo fue comparar las características de los artículos sobre la COVID-19 con las de los artículos no COVID-19 e identificar las variables en las que difieren. Método: Se realizó un estudio de casos y controles emparejados por revista. Los casos eran artículos COVID-19 y los controles eran artículos no COVID-19 publicados en el mismo periodo. Se seleccionaron revistas pertenecientes a cinco categorías diferentes del Journal Citations Reports. Dentro de cada revista seleccionada, se escogió un artículo COVID-19 (cuando había uno) y otro artículo no COVID-19. Se ajustaron modelos de regresión logística condicional. Resultados: Se incluyeron 81 artículos COVID-19 y 143 artículos no COVID-19. Los estudios observacionales descriptivos y los estudios observacionales analíticos tenían, respectivamente, una probabilidad 55 veces mayor (odds ratio [OR]: 55,12; intervalo de confianza del 95% [IC95%]: 7,41-409,84) y 19 veces mayor (OR: 19,28; IC95%: 3,09-120,31) de ser artículos COVID-19 y de tener un tamaño de muestra menor (OR: 7,15; IC95%: 2,33-21,94). Los artículos más citados desde su publicación tenían 5 veces más probabilidades de ser artículos COVID-19 (OR: 4,97; IC95%: 1,63-15,10). Conclusiones: Los artículos COVID-19 parecen tener mayor impacto bibliométrico, a pesar de tener menor calidad metodológica. Para asegurar la publicación de buena evidencia científica se debe preservar la calidad de los artículos relacionados con la COVID-19.

Introduction: the student scientific activity is a dynamic process that includes all the activities that are carried out during a course, among which are: the Student Scientific Day, so it is of interest its analysis in order to find barriers and strengths. Objective: to characterize some metrics of the works presented in the XXXII Student Scientific Conference of the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas. Methods: a descriptive and transversal bibliometric study was carried out in January 2022 with the papers presented at the XXXII Student Scientific Conference of the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas. The universe consisted of 99 papers. Variables such as type of work, assistantship and those related to bibliographic references were evaluated. Descriptive statistics were used. Results: the Faculty of Medical Sciences "Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta" was the institution with the highest number of papers in the event (76). A total of 238 participants were reported, with a predominance of multiple authorship in the papers, 69.75% were composed of 3 authors. The participation of internal medicine assistant students predominated (19). A total of 1945 bibliographic references were used, with an average of 19.65 references per paper. The PI was between 0.3 (case presentations) and 0.36 (originals). Conclusions: the XXXI Jornada Científica Estudiantil was characterized by the predominance of multiple authorship, female authors, outstanding participation of internal medicine assistant students, use of bibliographic references in Spanish in the reports, as well as a low Price index.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report the process of organization and construction of an information technology structure named Nursing Activities Score (NAS) Cloud Technology®. Method: This project was based on the life cycle theory and has enabled the development of technological production through software engineering. Results: The NAS Cloud Technology® was developed for remote and collaborative access on a website hosted by Google Sites® and protected in a business environment by the certified security and data protection devices Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). In 2015, this system received more than 10.000 submissions/month, totaling 12 care units for critical patients covered by the information technology structure, circa 200 nurses per day involved in the collection and hundreds of daily submissions, integrating the complete transition from paper to cloud. Conclusion: The development of NAS Cloud Technology® system has enabled the use of technology as a facilitating means for the use of Nursing care data, providing tools for decision-making on the nursing personnel sizing required for the care demands in the inpatient care units. The potential of cloud structures stands out due to their possibility of innovation, as well as low-cost access and high replicability of the information system.

The role play in the Cultural Historical perspective is a highly evolved form of play. In it the child reconstitutes social activity and tries to represent it, reproducing the concrete activity of people in their relationships and diversity. Therefore, the themes of the games can be varied and changeable depending on the objective situations in which the child participates. As a dominant activity of the preschool age, role play can foster children's psychic development. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate the influence of organized spaces and the insertion of new themes in social role play. Method: 25 children from four to five years of age participated in the Municipal Infantile Education of the city of Bauru- SP. The observational and descriptive analysis was adopted. Results: The data generated by graphs 1 and 2 and tables 1, 2, 3 demonstrate, above all, that the theme and the argument of the play enabled an advance in the levels of development of role play after the study of the theme and performance of roles in Spaces.

In 2014 the Mexican government implemented taxes to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and nonessential energy-dense foods. In this manuscript, we analyze the scientific evidence linking the consumption of these products to chronic diseases, and summarize the studies that have evaluated the observed and expected impact of food taxes in Mexico. The implementation of taxes to unhealthy foods has reduced purchases of sugar-sweetened beverages in 7.6% and nonessential energy-dense foods in 7.4%. A reduction in consumption could decrease obesity prevalence by 2.5%; prevent 20 000 cardiovascular disease events; 189 000 diabetes cases; and 20 000 cardiovascular deaths. Additionally, this impact could save nearly 1 173 million dollars from healthcare costs. Taxes to unhealthy foods should be strengthen up and remain as an integral part of the national strategy to reduce obesity and chronic diseases in Mexico.

ABSTRACT Objective: To present some criteria, many of which were created in the form of a checklist of items to be considered throughout the review process. Furthermore, we present a study whose main objective was to build (and validate) a review instrument by specialists that is clear, comprehensive, concise and consistent with the highest standards of excellence. Method: We use a survey to collect data (123 answers). To analyze the open answers we use the technique of content analysis through the Qualitative Data Analysis Software. Results: Besides the creation of new criteria with a focus on methodological dimensions based on 12 items, the involvement of the Ibero-American Congress on Qualitative Research scientific committee in the validation of this instrument. Conclusion: This option, in line with the others described, will allow to implement improvements to the editions of the events using the Qualitative Research Evaluation Tool in 2018.

Neste último número de 2015, registramos alguns acontecimentos importantes que marcaram nossa trajetória e nossos esforços na consolidação do campo da Alimentação e Nutrição no Brasil como espaço caracteristicamente interdisciplinar. Alcançamos todas as metas editoriais que nos colocamos: a periodicidade está em dia; publicamos quatro números no ano; há 20 artigos no último número. Em termos numéricos, chegamos ao patamar exigido para indexação em bases de dados internacionais consideradas pelas principais agências de fomento brasileiras como referência para cálculo de indicadores de circulação no campo da ciência. E 2016 será o ano em que daremos início aos movimentos para solicitar a inserção de nosso periódico nesses espaços. Esse movimento está sendo possível, em especial, por conta da crescente presença de pesquisadores em programas de pós-graduação, juntamente com seus orientandos, como autores de artigos em nossa revista. Hoje, Demetra é a segunda revista brasileira no campo alimentar-nutricional mais utilizada para publicação de artigos por pesquisadores dos programas de pós-graduação inseridos na área de avaliação “Nutrição” da CAPES. Os pesquisadores do campo alimentar-nutricional estão apostando na revista, investindo em sua consolidação, vendo nela um caminho a ser trilhado. É um importante reconhecimento do nosso trabalho! OBJETIVO: Caracterizar la frecuencia y tipo de uso de teorías o modelos citados en artículos publicados en una revista latinoamericana de salud publica entre los años 2000 y 2004. MÉTODOS: Se escogió la Revista de Saúde Pública por su historia de publicación periódica sin interrupción e impacto actual en la comunicación científica del área. Se aplicó un procedimiento estándar para leer los artículos y clasificarlos en una tipología arbitraria de cuatro niveles según la profundidad del uso dado a los referentes teóricos o modelos citados en los textos para describir asuntos o problemas abordados, formular métodos y discutir a rigor los hallazgos comunicados. RESULTADOS: Se leyeron 482 artículos: 421 (87%) investigaciones, 42 (9%) revisiones o especiales y 19 (4%) textos de opinión o reflexión. En las 421 investigaciones, 286 (68%) tuvieron enfoque cuantitativo, 110 (26%) cualitativo y 25 (6%) mixtos. La cita de teorías o modelos fue infrecuente; 90 (19%) artículos revisados citan algun referente. Según la profundidad de uso 29 (6%) de los 90 fueron tipo I, 9 (1,9%) tipo II, 6 (1,3%) tipo III y 46 (9,5%), tipo IV. CONCLUSIONES: La citación de modelos fue nueve veces más frecuente que la de alguna teoría; el uso ideal, el tipo IV, ocurrió en apenas uno de cada diez artículos analizados. Hay relevancia de explicitar los marcos teóricos y modelos usados al abordar temas, formular hipótesis, diseñar métodos y discutir hallazgos en las contribuciones de las revistas científicas del área.OBJETIVO: Caracterizar a freqüência e tipo de uso de teorias ou modelos citados em artigos publicados em uma revista latino-americana de saúde pública entre os anos 2000 e 2004. RESULTADOS: Foram lidos 482 artigos: 421 (87%) investigações, 42 (9%) revisões ou especiais e 19 (4%) textos de opinião ou reflexão. Nas 421 investigações, 286 (68%) tiveram enfoque quantitativo, 110 (26%) qualitativo e 25 (6%) mistos. A menção a teorias ou modelos não foi freqüente; apenas 90 (19%) dos artigos revisados citavam alguma teoria ou modelo. METHODS: The Revista de Saúde Pública was chosen because of its history of periodic publication without interruption and current impact on the scientific communication of the area. A standard procedure was applied for reading and classifying articles in an arbitrary typology of four levels, according to the depth of the use of models or theoretical references to describe problems or issues, to formulate methods and to discuss results. RESULTS: Of 482 articles included, 421 (87%) were research studies, 42 (9%) reviews or special contributions and 19 (4%) opinion texts or assays . Of 421 research studies, 286 (68%) had a quantitative focus, 110 (26%) qualitative and 25 (6%) mixed. Reference to theories or models is uncommon, only 90 (19%) articles mentioned a theory or model. According to the depth of the use, 29 (6%) were classified as type I, 9 (2%) as type II, 6 (1.3%) were type III and the 46 remaining texts (9.5%) were type IV. CONCLUSIONS: Reference to models was nine-fold more frequent than the use of theoretical references. The ideal use, type IV, occurred in one of every ten articles studied. It is of relevance to show theoretical and models frames used when approaching topics, formulating hypothesis, designing methods and discussing findings in papers.

Uno de los principales problemas en el desarrollo de la expresión escrita en inglés con enfoque en el género es la redacción del resumen sobre artículos o investigaciones científicas. Con el objetivo de actualizar los conocimientos existentes sobre este tema, se decidió realizar una revisión bibliográfica acerca de los elementos más importantes relacionados con este tipo de texto. En el trabajo se describen las modalidades de producción del texto-resumen, se analiza la relación existente entre las habilidades de lectura y escritura, la información textual, la información discursiva, el enfoque en el género, los distintos tipos de resúmenes y, en particular, los resúmenes de investigaciones médicas. Como resultado de la revisión realizada se propone el uso del modelo de resumen del lingüista holandés Teun A. Van Dijk por su eficacia en investigaciones sobre el tema que nos ocupa, realizadas por la mayoría de los autores consultados. Se concluye que los aspectos que deben utilizarse para la elaboración de resúmenes escritos en inglés son: las actividades o macrorreglas citadas por este autor, también denominadas operaciones resuntivas: Omitir, seleccionar, generalizar, construir o integrar así como el análisis lingüístico de los artículos de Investigación: longitud de los resúmenes, número de oraciones y longitud de las mismas, voz y tiempos verbales.One of the main problems in developing writing skills in English with a Genre approach is to write an Abstract about articles or scientific researches. With the objective to update the knowledge about this theme it was decided to do a bibliographical revision about the most important elements related to this kind of text. In this paper is described the ways of production of the abstract text, it is also analyzed the relation between reading and writing skills, the text information, the discourse information, the genre approach and the different kinds of abstracts, basically medical researches. As a result of the revision done it is suggested to use the model stated by the dutch linguist Teun A. Van Dijk due to its efficacy in researches done by most of the authors consulted in articles and books about this theme. It is concluded that the aspects that should be taken into consideration to write an abstract in english are: the activities or macrorules, also called resunctive operations: elliciting, selecting, generalizing, constructing or integrating, as well as the linguistic analysis of the research articles: length of the abstracts, number and length of statements used, voice and verbal tenses.

OBJETIVO: Elaborar un diagnóstico sobre la aplicación de la perspectiva de género en el campo de la investigación en salud en cuatro revistas mexicanas de los institutos nacionales de salud. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se revisaron 999 artículos publicados en cuatro revistas científicas (2000-2003), con dos niveles de análisis: a) desagregación de datos por sexo, que permite describir las diferencias entre mujeres y hombres; y b) análisis de estas diferencias desde la perspectiva de género. RESULTADOS: De los artículos revisados, 25.4% desagregó sus resultados por sexo, de los cuales el mayor porcentaje se publicó en Salud Pública de México (48.8%) y el menor en la Revista de Investigación Clínica (16.1%). Solamente 4.2% de los artículos aplicó la perspectiva de género, y los temas mayormente abordados fueron las adicciones, el comportamiento sexual y la violencia. CONCLUSIONES: Este es el primer estudio en México que evalúa la aplicación de la perspectiva de género en la investigación en salud. Al igual que en otros países, es baja la proporción de artículos que analizan las diferencias por sexo y aplican la perspectiva de género. Esto destaca la importancia de promover la investigación interdisciplinaria que ayude a comprender los orígenes biológicos y sociales, o la combinación de ambos, que determinan la salud desigual entre mujeres y hombres.OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the application of gender perspective in public health papers in four journals published by the Mexican National Health Institutes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 999 papers published in the four journals between 2000 and 2003 was reviewed. Two levels of analysis were considered: a) data presented by sex, providing description of differences between women and men, and b) the analysis of these differences from gender perspective. RESULTS: One quarter (25.4%) of the articles described results by sex. The largest percentage was published in Salud Pública de México (48.8%) and the smallest in Revista de Investigación Clínica (16.1%). Gender perspective was used in only 4.2% of papers; of these, drug addictions, health behaviour and violence were the topics that occurred most frequently. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to assess the application of gender perspective in Mexican health articles. Similarly to other countries, a very small percentage of authors analyzed sex differences, and a smaller proportion applied gender perspective. Results demonstrate the importance of promoting interdisciplinary research that may promote the elucidation of health inequalities between men and women.

Buscando publicações sobre educação profissional em enfermagem constatou-se que pouco se escreve a respeito. Considerando que a força de trabalho na enfermagem é constituída por profissionais de nível médio e a competência de sua formação é do enfermeiro, optou-se por levantar e caracterizar as publicações relacionadas ao ensino médio de enfermagem no Brasil. Os resultados mostraram a concentração das publicações na região sudeste, sendo os autores, enfermeiros atuantes em instituição de ensino. Os conteúdos abordaram temas emergentes do período relacionadas à qualificação pessoal, suas implicações educacionais, legais e políticas e sobre o processo ensino aprendizagem.On reviewing the Brazilian literature between 1988-1998 about the professional education of auxiliares de enfermagem and técnicos de enfermagem, professionals that develop activities similar to those carried out by nursing aides and practical nurses, it was observed that not much is available. Considering that the workforce related to those two groups is made up of professionals whose educational level is that of high school, and that nurses are responsible for their education, we decided to review and analyze the literature related to the education of those professionals in Brazil. Findings show that papers are published mainly in the southeastern part of the country. Most authors are professionals working in educational institutions. The papers addressed issues related to personal qualification, its implications on educational, legal, and political aspects, and its impact on the teaching-learning process.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) proposed this international historical cohort study trying to solve the controversy about the increased risk of cancer in the workers of the Pulp and Paper Industry. One of the most important aspects presented by this study in Brazil was the strategies used to overcome the methodological challenges, such as: data access, data accuracy, data availability, multiple data sources, and the large follow-up period. Through multiple strategies it was possible to build a Brazilian cohort of 3,622 workers, to follow them with a 93 percent success rate and to identify in 99 percent of the cases the cause of death. This paper, has evaluated the data access, data accuracy and the effectiveness of the strategies used and the different sources of data.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to present a methodology for assessing patients’ demands and calculating pre-test probabilities using paper forms in Primary Care. Method: Most developing countries do not use Electronic Health Records (EHR) in primary care settings. This makes it difficult to access information regarding what occurs within the health center working process. Basically, there are two methodologies to assess patients’ demands and problems or diagnosis stated by doctors. The first is based on single attendance at each appointment, while the second is based on episodes of care; the latter deals with each problem in a longitudinal manner. The methodology developed in this article followed the approach of confronting the ‘reason for the appointment’ and ‘the problem registered’ by doctors. Paper forms were developed taking this concept as central. All appointments were classified by the International Classification of Primary Care (ICPC). Discussion: Even in paper form, confrontation between ‘reason for the appointment’ and ‘problem registered’ is useful for measuring the pre-test probabilities of each problem-based appointment. This approach can be easily reproduced in any health center and enables a better understanding of population profile. Prevalence of many illnesses and diseases are not known in each reality, and studies conducted in other settings, such as secondary and tertiary care, are not adequate for primary health care. Conclusion: This study offers adequate technology for primary health care workers that have potential to transform each health center into a research-led practice, contributing directly to patient care.

Este artigo objetiva identificar as associações das morbidades comuns e dos acidentes de trabalho com setor, descrevendo as cargas de trabalho e realizando um amplo controle de fatores de confusão. Através de delineamento transversal, estudou-se a totalidade dos trabalhadores de uma indústria de celulose e papel (n=671). Realizaram-se entrevistas nesta indústria, caracterizando a percepção dos trabalhadores sobre as exposições ocupacionais e a morbidade. A área industrial caracterizou-se pelo excesso de problemas auditivos (RO>2,5), respiratórios (RO>2,7) e acidentes (RO>4,7), possivelmente relacionados com ruído, poeira, mudanças bruscas de temperatura e exposições a substâncias químicas, além do trabalho físico pesado e exposições a situações de risco. A administração apresentou um aumento de problemas nos olhos, dor nas costas, irritação e nervosismo (RO>1,7), que parecem ter relação com a falta de autonomia e criatividade no trabalho, problemas ergonômicos e esforço visual. Confirmaram-se não só as altas prevalências de morbidades comuns, mas também sua relação com as particularidades do processo de trabalho sintetizadas pela categoria setor.The purpose of this study was to identify associations between common morbidity and work accidents and the respective departments in a pulp and paper industry, describing work loads and performing broad control of potential confounding factors. We studied all the workers from a specific pulp and paper industry, using a cross-sectional design and interviews at the workplace (n=671) with a standardized questionnaire. We characterized workers' perceptions of their occupational exposures and health problems. The industrial area had an excess in auditory problems (OR>2.5) and respiratory problems (OR>2.7) as well as accidents (OR>4.7). These diseases were probably related to the high prevalence of noise, dust, sudden temperature changes, exposure to various chemicals, and excessive effort and high-risk situations. Moreover, the management group showed an excess in eye problems, backache, irritation, and nervousness (OR>1.7), apparently related to lack of autonomy and creativeness at work, ergonomic problems, and strained eyesight. The study confirmed not only a high prevalence of common diseases, but also their relationship to specific features of the work process indicated by each department category.
