The main goal of this paper is to report and discuss how students from a distance learning Language and Literature course from Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul access the contents available in some learning resources produced in Spanish. Do they read them on screen or on paper? What kind of media do they usually use to open the course files? How do they evaluate the way the course materials are made available? In general, we found that most of the students still prefer reading from paper. In order to access digital files, they frequently use laptops and desktops. Most of the students positively evaluate the opportunity of receiving printed material from the university, such as textbooks. The data obtained in this study suggest the need of further research, since printed textbooks will be no longer produced by the university anymore due to budget cutbacks. Meta-research is necessary because it allows re-evaluating the field and offers new horizons in knowledge production. Two studies were conducted: 1) Bibliometric analysis of 116 journals in eight databases and 24 publications in the Web of Science and Scopus; 2) Content analysis including that of 407 articles over a period of 10 years (2009–2018). The findings demonstrate a research trend in the Latin American region toward international standards, evidenced by a preponderance of empirical over essay studies. Universities in the region published most of the journals in the field and circulation was predominantly biannual. Contrary to expectations, the most widely disseminated topic was health communication, partly owing to a large sample of Brazilian journals. Within the empirical research, the qualitative approach was predominant. The interview was the most widely used research method in the region. Finally, the most used theories were agenda setting and framing. Imminent challenges arise, i.e., to strengthen indigenous theoretical production and to position the region’s themes and reflection more decisively in knowledge production at a global level

Abstract: Introduction: Digital competencies are a reference for the training of adolescents in the face of new digitalization processes, especially the use of social networks where they consume and produce personal information through different digital self-representation practices. These practices and the risks they pose to the privacy of minors are described in this paper based on a review of recent studies on the subject and data from a sample of Spanish adolescents (n=2066) aged between 12 and 18 years. Methodology: The methodology was quantitative, using a Likert-type scale questionnaire that complies with expert validation criteria and reliability, answered anonymously by the minors. Results: Among the results, similar practices stand out in three of the social networks most used by adolescents (WhatsApp, Instagram and Spotify), associated with the use of photos, name and real location, as well as the non-filtering of contacts, with minors being aware that sharing personal information poses risks to their privacy and having received training in this regard. Discussion and Conclusion: Finally, it is concluded that training in protective behaviors should be integrated into basic digital skills, so that minors learn to interact safely on social networks, with responsibility and taking care of their privacy and digital self-representation. This paper approaches the state of academic production in communication confined to the Hispanic sphere, namely, Spain and Latin America, during the period extending between 2013 and 2017. As in previous meta-research, the aim here is to highlight potential shortcomings in the discipline, both theoretically and methodologically. From an instrumental standpoint, a systematic, objective and quantitative content analysis was implemented on a probabilistic sample of 1,548 articles from the seven main journals in the field, all indexed in the first quartiles of the SJR-Scopus ranking. Aside from the percentage report for each variable, two-stage cluster analyses were performed twice to identify statistically significant publication patterns. As far as the results are concerned, it is worth highlighting the empirical nature of the studies, generally relying on quantitative methodologies, although no specific theoretical corpora are referenced. On the other hand, and although social networks and ICTs have gained a notable prominence, traditional media continue to be, collectively, the most prominent in communication research. Finally, the challenges of the field seem to revolve around two axes: providing studies with methodological robustness and, above all, with the theoretical background necessary to confront, with guarantees, the understanding of the liquid communicative manifestations that flow, at great speed, from the Information Society

Within the framework of this essay, the purpose of this discussion is to highlight the embargo that academic and scientific productions have been suffering, in the field of written publications, by databases owned by transnational commercial consortia, whose corporate mission has been fundamentally oriented to profit. In this embargo process, researchers have lost control and sovereignty over their intellectual production. Research has been reduced to management criteria, and the communication of knowledge has been restricted by monetary transactions and corporate marketing.

In the paper, on the basis of a multimodal critical discourse analysis of political posters and social media posts, the authors outline the complex interplay of multimodal means serving to convey a political leader’s charisma. The paper aims to advance a set of historically conventionalized features typical of the charismatic personality (such as intelligence, self-confidence, persistence, ability to inspire, sociability, dominance, narcissism, and vision), present the updated definition of this notion, and substantiate theoretical and methodological grounds for the study of the interplay of multimodal means portraying a charismatic political leader that assist in conveying a political speaker’s charisma creation through its graphical image, namely political posters and social media posts. The results of the study reveal that charisma is a complex communicative and cognitive phenomenon reflecting person’s beliefs about certain innate, obtained or promoted by media, internal or external subliminal traits of a leader. These beliefs are shaped in the recipients’ consciousness during interactive communication on the basis of the leader’s strategy, techniques, and methods used in oral or written communication, as well as a set of linguistic and extralinguistic means associated with the speaker’s ability to satisfy certain needs of the community. As a study material the authors opted for the images of Boris Johnson, a politician already acknowledged as a charismatic one by international audiences, who has been a prominent political figure for almost a decade and has recently come to the forefront of political and diplomatic support of Ukraine in the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war. The carried out analysis proves the highly informative as well as subliminal potential of multimodal visual pictographic means aimed at creating a charismatic image of a public person. The authors outline a set of verbal (elliptical sentences, catchy slogans in imperative mood, assonance, alliteration, the use of first person plural pronoun “We”, the lexical unit together, etc.) and visual-graphical means (font of the message, symbolic colour scheme, clothes style, body posture, gestures, oculesic features, etc.), whose interaction is aimed at triggering cognitive processes in the recipient’s mind in perceiving a charismatic image of the politician. Boris Johnson’s charisma is confirmed by the survey conducted among British and Ukrainian respondents as well as by his subscribers’ reactions, comments and likes following his posts on social media. The carried out analysis allows summarising the markers of a politician’s charisma portrayed on social media as follows: the number of comments and likes for their posts; informality while addressing the Prime Minister by his first name “Boris” and presence of a “popular name” “BoJo”; high degree of the followers’ messages expressiveness actualised through verbal means (significant amount of exclamatory sentences, interjections, evaluative epithets and idiomatic expressions), as well as graphical-visual means, in particular through the usage of graphic emoticons (emojis), serving to intensify the overall expressiveness of a message. The conclusion is that social media graphical images are aimed at conveying charismatic political leaders’ vision, offering their followers support and promise of a better future, portraying them as approachable, down-to-earth, considerate but at the same time serious leaders, ready to work to endure a better future. The results of the performed study can provide grounds for interdisciplinary research of both oral and written charismatic communication within the cognitive approach framework considering verbal, nonverbal and paralingual means’ (physiological, psychological, social, etc.) interplay that allows the audience to perceive a speaker as a charismatic one.

- Abstract
Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic has been a time where social media allows increased conversations about it. These conversations have spread various conspiracies about vaccines against COVID-19. It is, therefore, necessary to develop communication strategies, led by official accounts, that offer accessible information on vaccination as a preventive public health strategy. The aim of this study was to analyze the role of public institutions on Twitter campaign #yomevacuno to deal with misinformation about vaccination against COVID-19., Methods: This paper performs a social network analysis and content analysis of Twitter data, using NodeXL software, from December 8
th to 23rd , 2020. Tweets included content #yomevacuno hashtag., Results: A total of 6,080 interactions were collected, 82% were tweets. Data shows that public institutions generate 53.36% of traffic information, the most important was the Ministerio de Sanidad from Spain. Content analysis revealed that 48% of a sample of 50 Tweets the message was focused on vaccination as a social responsibility to defeat COVID-19 pandemic., Conclusions: The communication strategy of #yomevacuno hashtag, has been led by the Ministerio de Sanidad of Spain, by comparison to other campaigns in which there was no large presence of public institutions. This case represents the importance of social media as a way to spread information and prevention, even in public health and the need for them to be led by public organizations rather than by individual users., Competing Interests: Disclosure The authors report no conflicts of interest in this work.- Published

The paper examines body parts idioms as politeness strategy in Nzema communication. Figurative devices such as proverbs and euphemisms have received quite an appreciable amount of study in connection with verbal politeness in Nzema. Little or no attention however has been given to idioms, particularly their communicative functions in the language. This paper seeks to discuss the communicative functions of some body parts related idioms in Nzema with special focus on idiomatic expressions involving the limbs, the body/skin, the heart/chest and the stomach that are used in daily discourse. The analysis is based on primary data obtained through participant and non-participant observation. The data comprise audio recordings of traditional arbitration and everyday conversations among the Nzema. The paper demonstrates that, these culturally constructed body parts related idioms are deliberately employed to avoid any straightforward language that seeks to undermine and threaten the face of an addressee and also serve as politeness device for the speaker. The paper draws on Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory.

This paper showcases how the Contract Agency Model can be used to uncover literacy practices in videogame’s own terms as a complement to existing, more ‘indirect’ games literacies, using as an example the videogame Total War: Shogun 2. The paper first situates the Contract Agency Model within approaches to videogames and within approaches to media literacy. The paper then identifies three interesting literacy practices in the videogame, which also exemplify the eight levels of abstraction of the Contract Agency Model. The paper concludes by discussing the model’s implications to media literacy and videogames, namely that videogames effect a second-order mutual signalling with their players – agency as a conversation of commitment to meaning – that is humanizing of those players, and that the model can uncover this as an implicit contract of bio-costs, as a ‘direct’ literacy of videogames, i.e. a literacy in videogames’ own terms.

The paper deals with tattoos of Catholic women from Bosnia and Herzegovina, function of the tattoo from the identity, religious and communication aspect, primarily as a means of non-verbal visual communication as well as its contemporary perception. The traditional/religious tattoo on the example of tattooed Catholic women from BiH, which is the subject of this research, represents a conscious bodily modification historically conditioned by the environment and culture. The paper studied perception of traditional/religious tattoos taking into consideration the fact that more than 90% of the population of the Republic of Croatia are declared believers and whether a person with a tattooed religious symbol is a believer, or whether that person is perceived as a believer because of a tattooed religious symbol/sign. The paper also discusses the possibility of traditional tattoos contribution to the process of new evangelization. The research was conducted on a sample of 310 respondents, and the aim of the research is to determine the perception of religious/traditional tattoos, i.e. whether they are influenced by sociodemographic characteristics, whether it is generally acceptable or declared believers have a more positive attitude and can the traditional tattoo be a communication symbol of declared believers.

13. The semantics of language in Eugène Ionesco’s plays

The goal of this paper is to present the characteristics of Eugène Ionesco’s dramatic texts, a reason why the genre of avant-garde and theatre of the absurd are also considered, with a view to revealing their major ways of functioning. By pointing out the different dimensions of dramatic language, the emphasis is on those elements that differ from current oral and written language. Starting from the times of decadentism, a crisis of character can be noted in the theater around a type of individual who, as an alienated individual, cannot find his identity in a hostile surrounding world. One of the direct consequences of this crisis will be the impossibility of interpersonal communication, which will be best demonstrated with the concept and tenets of the theater of the absurd. In this context, the study of the theater of the 20th century is done from the perspective of cognitive semantics, as an autonomous level of language. The approach is organised around two notions: dramatic conventions and the actual language of the dramatic texts. The interpretative theory rooted in semantics is applied while analysing Ionesco’s short plays. The starting point is the linguistics of the text as described by Eugen Coşeriu. Capturing the meaning and the means by which it is constructed is one of the objectives in accord with the main principles of cognitive linguistics. The way of analysing the meaning in a text is given by the presence of some textual functions, as possibilities provided by language through relationships that the linguistic sign establishes in the discursive act. The specificity of the discourse comes from the combination of verbal and non-verbal elements, in order to highlight the playwright’s original style. The particularities of this type of language based on an ontological representation of the actional nature in human existence are also investigated. There are two dimensions recognisable in the language of literature: one is specific to the genre and the other one is particular, giving originality and uniqueness. The textual meaning in between these dimensions needs to be reconstructed from all their constituents identifiable at different levels of analysis. Ionesco distanced himself from the conventional and traditional theatre, finding a new formula for the dramatic genre in his own vision of what drama should be like. Ionesco’s dramatic work includes short plays and extensive plays in which the author expresses his adversity against totalitarian regimes. He is the representative of the theater of the absurd and anti-theater. The corpus for this research is composed mainly of the plays The Bald Soprano, The Lesson and The Chairs, the most representative plays for the avant-garde spirit, short plays on the theme of language emptied of meaning and non-communication. Language has an impact on thinking and the resulting actions, which relates it to the ontology of human existence. As dramatic language is preponderently structured on dialogical interactions (and less on monologues, soliloquies and asides), its essence can be revealed by decomposing and recomposing them, from the angle of the conventions specific to the dramatic genre. The analysis of the selected fragments from the corpus has the role to highlight their semantic features in terms of conceptual representations.

This paper examines stakeholder communication and interaction dynamics in place branding processes in order to inform alternative participatory place branding models. The paper draws from critical communications and branding theory to argue that place brand identities are the result of mediated messages in the public sphere. Consequently, place branding processes need to be observed as communicative exchanges. Through a case study of Australia’s southern and only island state of Tasmania, the research employs participatory action research combined with the method of sociological intervention to explore stakeholders’ communicative interaction patterns and engagement in place branding processes. Participants representing formal and informal stakeholders engaged in communicating meaning about places were invited to participate in a series of interviews and focus group discussions that allowed a unique self-reflective process and analysis of practices and power-geometries. The proposed quasi-real scenario led to an understanding of the impediments for communication and to scoping alternative modes of engagement towards effective stakeholder communication to support the development of resilient place brand identities. The findings of the exploration contribute to theoretical development of the field by providing an analysis of the nature of stakeholder interactions and communication patterns, impediments and opportunities for greater communication and collaboration towards a common purpose. On a practical level, the study can also inform the development of participatory models of place brand development. Finally, the method proposed here can serve as a practical tool to foster stakeholder engagement in processes of cocreation of place brand identities.

Abstract In this paper we analyse how populist leaders in UK and Italy – namely Nigel Farage, Nicola Sturgeon, Giorgia Meloni, and Matteo Salvini – reacted to the first and second lockdowns on their Twitter accounts, communicating directly to their people. The analysis was carried out following a combined qualitative and quantitative approach to discourse. The qualitative analysis focused on comparing populist leaders’ rhetorical and semiotic choices, while the quantitative analysis observed the response by the community of common Twitter users. This work aims on the one hand at unveiling the strategic use of social media by populist leaders and on the other at investigating conflictual interactional dynamics, especially in times of crisis.

Based on a conceptual review of the content analysis research method, this article identifies meta-research studies that confirm the relevance of this technique in the atomised field of communication sciences. In light of the empirical evidence, this study is based on an analysis of 262 papers that use this tool and were published in major Spanish-language journals between 2013 and 2017. At instrumental level, bibliometric exploration is combined with content analysis itself, considering 18 categories, such as authorship, funding, sampling method and reporting of intercoder reliability. The results indicate that there is a steady annual growth in the number of papers produced by researchers affiliated to Spanish universities. These papers have more than two authors on average and often lack additional financial resources. As for the implementation of the content analysis method, it is generally applied to non-probabilistic samples and does not involve any intercoder reliability assessment and reporting. A series of recommendations are offered for researchers in Spain and in Latin America to meet international standards.

This paper focuses on the concept of symbol and tries to out- line its function as a means of communication. In order to describe the communicative qualities of symbol, it is necessary to show its ethical nature. The paper analyses the role symbols play in intersubjective rela- tions, in the construction of the individual’s reality, and in the human ability to attribute meanings and assign functions. The conceptual frame- work for the understanding of what symbol is, how it works, and how it is made is a particular combination of phenomenology and pragma- tism, which lies on the theory of ‘appresentation’, as we can find it in Alfred Schütz’s viewpoint. The paper invites a reflection on the power of symbol, particularly on its power to communicate the incommunicable.

City branding, vast majority of authors consider as the process of identity and image management, represents a strategic answer to new demands of the networked world, economic trends, information and social needs of the population. Theoretical perspectives and practical examples emphasize the significance of urban identities “management” through conceptual settings of branding in order to increase competitiveness of cities in the following spheres: touristic demand, optimal efficiency of resources (investments, attracting new inhabitants…), revitalization of urban spaces and strengthening of the city identity. Preconditions for optimal efficiency of competitive advantages of a certain city in relation to other are created by using branding techniques and tools, while communication practices of city systems and subsystems represent infrastructural platform for implementation of the mentioned process. Current theoretical concept related to identity model is based on the holistic approach to the brand management with the emphasis on increased involving of the local population in creating urban policies. Orientation towards strengthening city identity by inclusive approach to conceptual setting of branding introduces the contemporary city management sphere based on the principle of good management while emphasizing the significance of dialogue processes between different interest groups and necessity of wider understanding of culture within the meaning of strategic tool for urban development. Therefore the paper deals with theoretical aspects, methods and implementation of strategic management of communication in the process of city branding. Author begins with the hypothesis that in the process of brand development, besides the analysis of the current public image, communication competence of stakeholders has the key role in creating mechanisms for dialogue processes between interest public groups within the city in order to achieve greater consensus on the strongholds of the living city identity. Relying on the findings of leading authors from this area and analysis of the practical examples, the paper presents basic steps in the process of creating city brand.

Summary: 1. Communication as the essence of human dignity: anthropology, philosophy and law. 2. Communication and constitution. 2.1 Subjective dimension of communication. 2.2 Objective dimension of communication. 3. The right to communication in the spanish constitution. 4. The right to television activity as a right to communication. 5. Internet and the right to communication. 6. Conclusions. Abstract: This article analyzes the constitutional regime of the right to human communication (Article 20.1 a and b SC). The aim is to analyze the right evolution in the light of contemporary forms of communication trying to assess whether its constitutional protection is enough. This paper starts studying from an anthropology approach human communication and its essentiality for the concept of human dignity. Subsequently, its historical evolution can be observed unfolding in its double aspect: subjective, freedom in front of the interference of the public authority; and objective, as a foundation element of pluralism and constitutional democracy. We point out some contradictions between the two dimensions caused by the evolution of the media. Later it is pointed out how these contradictions are accentuated in two contemporary media: television and internet. In the first, we observe how both objective and subjective dimension has resulted in a dialectic based on the contrast between public and private, respectively. In the case of the internet, we observe how this dialectic is reproduced, but confusing the public and private spaces, and bringing the right´s limits to the absurd. Paper ends with two conclusions. On one hand, the Spanish constitutionalization right to receive and impart information and ideas does not seem sufficient in front of contemporary phenomenon of human communication. On the other hand, communication as the basic element on which human dignity has been built requires reading article 20 (1) of the Constitution from one more anthropological approach to, as a pre-existing right. We bet for a revaluation of its subjective versus the objective dimension, because it is the evolution of the forms of human communication that determine the political order, and not contrariwise.

Abstract After pointing out mainstream migrant integration’s conceptual issues, we use communication theory to argue that researching migrants’ positive discourse about their trajectories depends on analyzing their establishment of philia in the host country. Then, we present a qualitative study with five migrants who work as teachers at a language school in Rio de Janeiro. We explore their experiences according to three categories: connection to Brazilian people, connection to brazility, and identity convergence to Brazil. This paper concludes that although interviewees cite some indicators used to measure integration in mainstream academia (e.g., language and employment) in their discourses about the country, the specific meanings of these factors are understood only by linking them to participants’ intersubjective exchanges and philia in Brazil.

- Abstract
This paper is an empirical research based on observational methodology. It is an idiographic research with a mixed observational design of low intervention, of the following type: monitoring/nomothetical/multidimensional. We used a tool created in situ for the systematic multidimensional register of the complex occurrence of several types of behavioural events in real time, which combines the format of field investigation with the system of categories. The reliability of the observation tool is obtained through the researcher-observer's agreement with him- or herself. Our aim is to study the social relationships between first-grade peer students in a multicultural context. We present some structures of seeking social closeness, help and cooperation among children of similar and different cultures, which were discovered through the detection and analysis of temporal patterns of the interactive situation of boys and girls who were observed during their academic and leisure activities in the natural context of their school.

- Abstract
The MacArthur-Bates Inventories are a valid and reliable method for assessing communicative and linguistic skills in infants (8-15 months) and young children (16-30 months), and have been adapted to many languages. This paper presents their adaptation to Spanish. Structure, innovations included in the Spanish version, and the standardisation process are described, and some results obtained from the analysis of a sample of 1150 children are presented. The advantages and limitations of the use of parental report inventories are highlighted. For children before three years of age, there are very few assessment tools of language and communicative development with sufficient guarantees produced and edited in Spain. The Spanish version of the MacArthur-Bates Inventories represents an important contribution for early identification of language delays or disorders, and for follow-up of these cases.

All the previous works on the art of public speaking have investigated the verbal and nonverbal communication, style, gesture signs, posture, position of torso, leg movements, speaking in the context of time and space, etc. But the case of ignorance or poor knowledge of language of the country, whose head the politician is, has neither been investigated nor elaborated. And that is precisely the case with former Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković. The main intention of this paper is to determine what kind of impression the former Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković makes on the public in the context of lack of knowledge of the Croatian language. It also tried to find out his characteristics in public appearance and what impression they make on the public. In order to determine that, for the purpose of this paper we conducted in-depth interviews with experts in the field of social and human sciences that made a review of public appearance and impression that former Prime Minister Orešković made on general public. In order to quantitatively argue the answers obtained from in-depth interviews, we additionally conducted a survey where we examined the impression he made on respondents. For the purpose of additional argumentation the authors also analyzed the content in the form of transcripts of public appearances of former Prime Minister Orešković.

This paper addresses intercultural communication possibilities of a variety of care and health professionals in a private health organisation of Cordoba with a diverse patient population. The aim of this paper is to identify different elements present in an effective communication with those patients. Previous studies are considered to have overlooked this reality, even though it is of vital importance in communication between patients and health professionals, as it can result in misunderstandings, misdiagnosis and dissatisfaction with care on the one hand, and labor dissatisfaction on the other. In this study included the patients' own perceptions of their ability to communicate with the professionals. The participant observation technique was used during eight weeks and surveys were carried out with doctors from different specialties, nurses, as well as outpatients and inpatients at the institution. In the surveys, health professionals were asked to rate their ability to communicate with people from other cultures, and in the patient surveys, they were asked to rate the professionals' ability to communicate. Responses from 25 professionals (both doctors and nurses) and 91 patients were analysed. The results show that professionals with greater empathy and previous intercultural experience are more likely to communicate effectively with patients, in relation to their health care., Este trabajo aborda las posibilidades de comunicación intercultural de distintos profesionales de la salud en una organización sanitaria de gestión privada en la provincia de Córdoba que presenta una población de pacientes diversa. his issue of the WATERLAT-GOBACIT Network’s Working Papers is a product of the Network’s Thematic Area 7 TA7–Art, Communication, Culture, and Education. TA7’s membership includes academics, students, practitioners, representatives of social movements and civil society organizations, among others. This TA focuses on artistic representations and the role of art in water-related topics that fall within our Network’s remit, including literature, music, painting, cinema, theatre, and other forms. Also, TA7 addresses the study of forms of communication dealing with water-related problems, as well as the development of communication strategies oriented at promoting awareness about water-related inequalities and injustices, and empowering local communities, social movements and other actors engaged in social struggles to democratize water Politics and management. TA7 also deals with customs, traditions, and practices, “water cultures”, some of which are as ancient as the human species, and their relationship with processes of socio-ecological transformation. Our interest includes the strengthening of cultural forms grounded on the principles of water as a common or public good, the access to water as a right, and egalitarian, democratic, inclusionary, solidary, and sustainable water cultures and practices. We are also committed to opposing the advance of individualistic, exclusionary cultural forms that tend to reduce the status of water to that of a private good, a commodity, a vehicle for the accumulation of private profit. These cultural forms also contribute to aggravating existing levels of unsustainability, with frequently irreversible effects on water sources and living beings. As its title suggests, TA7 also engages with the educational dimension of water-related Politics and management. It contributes to the critique of established forms of knowledge that tend to reproduce dominant cultures, traditions and practices in relation to water. In this regard, we produce and disseminate educational contents and techniques oriented at reversing the conditions of vulnerability and defencelessness affecting human populations in relation to water. Among other issues, we focus on the existing inequalities and injustices in the access to water and water-based services that are essential for dignified life, or the protection against threats and dangers derived from climatic events and from the negative effects of the prevailing forms of water Politics and management, which are responsible for the recurrent socioecological disasters affecting ecosystems, and the very preservation of life in the planet. Given its broad focus, TA7 has important linkages with other Thematic Areas. In this issue, some of the articles also contribute to topics covered by TA2 – Water and Megaprojects, and TA6 – Hydrosocial Basins, Territories, and Spaces. The issue features four papers presenting experiences from Argentina and Brazil.

Objective: To establish whether certain characteristics of the young influence their choice of people with whom to discuss AIDS., Material and Methods: A national survey was conducted in 1997 by the Consejo Nacional para la Prevención y Control del SIDA (CONASIDA, Mexican Council for AIDS Prevention and Control). Study subjects were 4886 male and female 15-19 year-old teenagers. Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyze data., Results: A model including the variables sex, sexual activity, work conditions, and father's schooling level, turned out to be significant and highly predictive of people with whom teenagers discuss AIDS, as compared to teenagers speaking with no one. Male teenagers discuss AIDS with their fathers more than female teenagers, and female teenagers discuss AIDS more with their mothers. Sexually active teenagers discuss AIDS more with their friends and less with their teachers than sexually inactive teenagers. The greater schooling level the father has, the more people teenagers have with whom to discuss AIDS and the more they discuss AIDS at home, compared to teenagers with fathers without schooling., Conclusions: Differentiated sexual education training strategies should be designed in accordance with subpopulations' characteristics. Objectives: 1. To find the scientific output on communication and health both in Spain and internationally. 2. To compare the two outputs according to the type of articles published and the design of the research., Design: Descriptive and bibliometric study., Material: The data bases MEDLINE (1995-2000) and IME (1990-2000) and the books summarising papers from semFYC Congresses (1995-2000) were used., Measurements: The number of articles on MEDLINE published and indexed with the description <
>, plus a series of subject describers that could be included under the heading < >, were counted. On the IME and in the semFYC congress summaries the describers < > were used. The articles indexed on MEDLINE-IME were compared for their classification as original articles, clinical practice guidelines, review, editorial or letter to the editor. Original articles were classified in randomised and non-randomised trials, meta-analysis and observation studies., Main Results: 6766 articles were found on MEDLINE, 42 on the IME (0.046% of the total indexed) and 34 summaries from semFYC congresses (1.47% of the total). Among the most commonly studied questions were found patients' information and education, professional stress and psychological interviews; among the least studied were difficult and aggressive patients, negotiation and people accompanying patients. The original articles on MEDLINE and IME were 70% and 37%; and review articles, 11% and 44%. 1.4% of MEDLINE articles were randomised trials; and 0.08%, meta-analysis., Conclusions: Communication and health research is a young field that still requires descriptive studies. There is little scientific output in this area in Spain, with few original papers and too many reviews. - Published

The paper analyses new words and set expressions through their affiliation with different spheres of social life of the English-speaking community. The aim of the article is to analyse innovations by their distribution in the spheres of social life of the English-speaking society. The aim was reached by using both general scientific (analysis, synthesis, systematisation, classification, induction, deduction) and strictly linguistic methods (random sampling and observation method, lexico-semantic and contextual analysis, interpretation of dictionary definitions). In addition, the method of sociolinguistic analysis of the collected material was used. It aims to explore the relationship between language and society. Twelve groups of social life areas have been identified that have given a rise to entirely new innovations: innovations related to education and upbringing; innovations related to health sector; innovations related to generations; innovations related to gender aspect; innovations related to different diets, new recipes, and technologies in cooking; innovations related to sports, tourism, physical education, fitness; innovations related to environment; innovations related to COVID-19; innovations related to economy; innovations related to gadgets; innovations related to social media; innovations specified by modern information technology. The most expansive group is represented by the innovations related to the sphere of information technology, especially the social networks, which should be considered to be a new form of social communication. A certain number of new formations of economy and business denote new types and models of economic systems with the active role of ‘economy’ as the key word. Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) has begot dozens of new words and expressions with the words Covid/corona being the centre of innovations. Quite a number of neologisms is focused on the environmental problems, namely – the problems of climate change, global warming. Considerable number of words and expressions denote new kinds of sport, tourism, fitness. The trend to minimise the consumption of meat and other animal products, to go on different diets, to become vegetarian, the new cooking technology and technique – these factors determine the coinage of new formations, associated with the sphere of food, nutrition, culinary. Special attention is given to the denomination of new kinds and brands of such a beverage as coffee. Women liberation movement, especially the struggle for equal role in political and public life, against discrimination and sexism is evidenced in coinages based on the analogy of the expression glass ceiling, fusions with the words man and mom (mum) as the first element. Replenished is the vocabulary associated with the names and characteristics of generations, especially the new ones. The sphere of medicine and health contributes to the formation of neologisms denoting new therapies, cosmetic surgery, and treatment procedures. New formations in the sphere of education reflect changes in this sphere, new approaches and methods. Newly coined phrases characterise types of families, relations between their members. Sociolinguistic analysis is combined with the description of active ways, types and productive elements contributing to the replenishment of English vocabulary. Thus, the innovations in English in the last decade have reflected changes in almost all spheres of social life. These changes are caused by emerging problems and the need to solve them. Particular attention has been paid to the verbalisation of new forms and means of social communication in the context of the information revolution. The most active mechanisms for the formation of neologisms are telescoping (so called portmanteau words) including analogy with telescoping and pure telescoping, forming compound words, especially according to the N+(pro-)N model, affixation, abbreviations, and acronyms.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the video blog as a genre of Internet communication. The purpose of the study is to identify the communicative and pragmatic parameters of the natural sciences video blog. The topicality of the research is firstly determined by the characteristics of the Internet discourse as an active genre-generating space; secondly – by the intensive distribution of the video blog (a modern creolized text); and thirdly – by the lack of a scientific description of this communicative-discursive phenomenon. Various research methods were used, e.g. a complex linguistic description (generalization techniques, interpretation, classification of linguistic facts) and a linguopragmatic approach to the analysis of speech phenomena. The paper discusses the main features of the Internet discourse, genre specifics of the blog and its video content, in particular. The research material is presented by the creolized texts of the video blog “SuperCrastan” by Daniil Craster, which were published on the Youtube channel (52 units for the year of 2022). The communicative and pragmatic parameters of the natural sciences video blog are described at various levels: media, compositional and semantic, linguistic and pragmatic. At the media level, the text of the video blog is considered from the point of view of the degree of creolization, the dominant topic, the method of transmitting and creating the content, the structuring of the video blog: multimedia, hypertextuality, interactivity, synchronicity / asynchronicity of communication. At the compositional and semantic levels, the main types of the video blog are presented; the tendency to blending of types is noted. At the linguistic and pragmatic levels, the analysis involved: communication intentions, the strategies and tactics of their implementation; the speech peculiarities of the impact on the addressee at the phonetic-graphic, lexical and grammatical levels. The main result of the research is a comprehensive description of the communicative and pragmatic parameters of the natural sciences video blog. The research contributes to the development of the theory of Internet discourse in general and of its genre structure, in particular.

Recent studies and reports reveal that young people have a distorted concept of gender-based violence and their tolerance towards it does not decrease. There is a context of institutional concern about prevention and eradication of gender-based violence in Spain. In this context, this paper reflects on gender-based violence in order to compare the collective adolescent-young imaginary and social messages sent by the media on this problem. We will analyze this concept based on theoretical feminist definitions, the legal national an international framework and data about the presentation of this problem on the media. We will conclude that gender-based violence is transmitted in a very simplistic and reductionist way, a way too far from feminist frameworks, so adolescents and young people find identifying and rejecting it difficult. Literature on the semiology of dance is scarce and not well integrated so far. A comprehensive review of the scholarly research would allow showing which themes are the most critical ones, and what is still needed to develop this research field. In this article we aim to fill this gap by conducting a bibliographic review of papers published in Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, Dialnet, ÍnDICEs-CSIC, EBSCO, and Google Scholar from 2000 to 2022. Our review shows that within the field of dance, previous studies have emphasized the coexistence of various dynamic elements whose main purpose is to shape the construction of the play and facilitate understanding in the dance communication process. We highlight the relevance of focusing on the spectator as constructor of meaning and participant of the symbolism of the act, and not only as a passive observer.

Cognitive approach to the fantastic as a linkage: the theory of apperceptions. Definition and applications in short stories by Julio Cortázar, Jorge Luis Borges and Ángel Olgoso Abstract. In this paper, we develop and present a new theory of the fantastic called apperception theory. Considering the cognitive sciences research of the last decades, especially those related to embodied simulation, mirror neurons and the space of intersubjectivity, we define the fantastic as the linkage that can arise from a mismatch of apperceptions as an anomaly, alteration or transgression of at least one of the cognitive and hermeneutic levels that operate in each narrative experience. The cognitive approach also makes it possible to overcome criticisms of the fantastic as a possible autonomous literary genre or as a narrative modality that is implanted over different narrative, while becomes important the degree of depth of the fantastic linkage between the reader’s apperceptions and the text. For that, we present a possible analytical scheme for researching narrative texts. This paper aims to study the representation of women and its extremes in zombie movies. Its methodological and conceptual bases come from cultural studies and deconstruction theory, particularly ideas from Derrida (1967, 2005), Boothroyd (2006), and Sánchez et al. (2017). Furthermore, we will consider relevant works about the representation of women fiction, such as Kristeva (1980), Deleuze and Guattari (2013), and Abalia Marijuán (2020). This paper focuses on four main cases, whose ways of representing women refer to several social realities: Teenage Zombies (Warren, 1959), Flesh Eating Mothers (Martin, 1988), Deadgirl (Sarmiento & Harel, 2008), and Stripperland (Skelding, 2011).

The principle of authority in journalism is structured around central concepts such as objectivity, verification and distance/neutrality (Schudson, 1978; Kovach and Rosenstiel, 2007; Deuze, 2005). In the new order of disinformation, in which the authority of journalism is questioned, fact-checking can act as a possible antidote (Walter et al., 2020). This study presents the results of citizens' perceptions of journalistic authority and their awareness of fact-checkers and the role they play. Based on focus groups (10) and a representative national survey (n = 1001), our findings show that 50.5% of the sample do not know what fact-checkers are. 15.2% of them know what fact-checkers are but admit to never using them. Only 4.1% use fact-checkers regularly. Results also reveal a relevant finding: in a highly polarized media system such as Spain's, fact-checkers can only with difficulty combat the spread of misinformation effectively. Their role must therefore be articulated within a broader strategic framework for fighting disinformation, in order to recover trust in journalism. This paper analyses clickbait as an extra-journalistic viral technique and strategy of digital news media aiming to attract readers. It studies the effects of clickbait and identifies the stylistic techniques most frequently used in Spanish digital newspapers. Clickbait is growing exponentially in news media, in many cases to the detriment of the quality of the information provided. Thus, this study also looks at the adoption by the media of The Trust Project model, a system of trust indicators that aims to counteract the pernicious effects of fake news generated, very often, by the use of clickbait. The study analysed the ten digital newspapers in Spain with the highest readership according to the Reuters Institute (2020). A dual methodology was used: qualitative, focused on the analysis of academic and scientific works on clickbait and the transparency standards of The Trust Project against disinformation; and quantitative. Empirical research on 'bait' headlines found the use of clickbait in 505 out of 1321 news headlines, which suggests a high presence of clickbait content in the selected digital media. It is therefore a key tool for attracting readers, although less common in digital newspapers that have signed up to The Trust Project. The paper reveals, among other findings, that Spanish digital newspapers do not generate clicks through high quality content, but rather through the creation of suspense, exaggeration or lurid subject-matter in the information they publish. Among the paper's conclusions is the clear need for further academic research in this field, to improve strategic digital culture in journalism and communication studies.

FR. When the war between France and Prussia broke out in 1870 the so-called “war reportage” did not exist as it is known today. Yet, the daily newspapers closely followed and covered this conflict, by sending journalists on the battlefield. Since the beginning of the “media era” 2 this was the first war that took place on French soil. This paper focuses on the narrative of the war as it was written by the French journalists in order to identify how this narrative shaped a “proto war reportage”. From a representational perspective, based on the writings of Louis Marin, the article shows how war narratives produced a “subject-reporter effect” and how this war-specific posture contributed to the evolution of the reportage. With the assumption that war acts as an acceleration and densification process in the development of this journalistic genre the analysis focuses on the meta-discourse in five French newspapers (Le Figaro, Le journal des débats politiques et littéraires, Le Petit Journal, La Liberté and Le Gaulois) that went along with the coverage of military and war. This meta-discourse enables to understand the affirmation of the proto war reporter through the narrative of difficulties regarding the daily communication with the newsrooms as well as its affiliation to several collective imaginaries such as the greatness of the French army or the French nation. Along these two topics the article highlights how this “proto war reportage” and therefore the news press contributes to the construction of national imaginaries and the “biography of nations” as theorized by Benedict Anderson. *** PT. ***

This paper analyzes the Silodam collective housing project, developed and built between 1995 and 2002 by the MVRDV studio. One of the design concepts that characterize Silodam is that of offering a large number of types of housing contained in the same building. To carry out this analysis, first a critical review is made of some authors who reflect on the need for typological diversity in contemporary collective housing. Secondly, a series of graphs and diagrams are studied (made by its designers) in which the aspects related to the typological design and the programmatic organization of the building are presented. From the study it is concluded that these drawings not only show the proposal made, but also constitute a graphic discourse that uses rhetorical strategies to explain the typological diversity of the building and also establish a narrative of the design process of which it is the result.

Xiaomi is very competitive, but it faces a huge crisis. Huawei, Apple and Samsung are its competitors, and the European electronics brands continue to grow rapidly. The company's market, science and technology research and development is important, but product marketing communication is also important. Therefore, to develop a viable marketing plan for the company is a necessary choice for the success of the company. In the era of new media, the rapid development and popularization of digital technology and network communication have brought about great changes in communication environment, communication methods and communication rules. As an important communication mode in modern economy and commercial society, marketing communication is constantly innovating and developing under the impetus of mobile Internet technology and new media technology. It has changed a lot and is outstanding in many aspects, such as communication content, communication touchpoints, communication relationships, and service methods. This change and innovation is particularly evident in the promotion of branded products. For product promotion, the shift from newspaper, magazine and television advertising has evolved to rely on network communication technology to spread through social media and smart devices such as mobile phones and computers. The sudden change of communication mode leads to the change of the company's promotion mode: the person who can successfully communicate under the new media wave will be the ultimate winner of the company's market competition. Xiaomi is the subject of this work. Through the analysis of the Spanish market, the current situation of Xiaomi, the existing communication and marketing strategies of Xiaomi in the Spanish market, this paper makes a summary and analysis, so as to provide some effective suggestions for the marketing communication of Xiaomi in Spain and summarize the general communication experience of the company. At the same time, while analyzing the development of Chinese company Xiaomi in Spain, this paper studies the international development experience and provides a typical case of company internationalization, which has certain reference value and practical meaning for other companies.

The learning process at the university demands more and more active participation from students and a greater approximation to the reality that is the object of learning. In the case of creation of companies and entrepreneurship courses, it is common for teaching to be actively organized around the development of a business plan (project-based learning) developed in a group (cooperative learning). However, in many cases, the communication dimension of the business plan, an essential task in any process of setting up a business, is not worked or it is limited to the presentation of the project to be evaluated by lecturers. In this context, this paper presents two internationalization actions developed in entrepreneurship courses with the objective of teaching how to communicate a business project, all of them with an international scope. Furthermore, the initiative objectives include the improvement of students' communication skills and competences, increase their participation in learning and evaluation processes, and facilitate them a multicultural vision of entrepreneurship provided by lecturers from other universities. The results have shown a greater involvement of the students, not only in the task of communicating their business project, but also in the interest, attention and feedback provided to the business plans of their peers, thus increasing learning through this cooperation. In addition, the participation of international lecturers has been an incentive to students to improve their communication actions.
