Often personnel performing managerial functions within educational systems are educators with almost no training in management. This paper presents ideas on how to organize a training activity intended to develop management knowledge and skills among educational systems officials and to implement an organizational self-study on management problems. The paper begins with a conceptual introduction to management development. A detailed description of a proposed workshop covers the following topics: objectives, methodology, general content, material aids, kind of participants, time, place, program, facilitators, expected outcomes, evaluation, and a basic bibliography. Sessions to be carried out during the workshop are described. The possible short-term effects of the activity on organizational performance are noted. The paper also includes a chart of the suggested programming, exercises on determining organizational objectives, a model of the "so-called" management guide, guidelines to make an inventory of management problems, and a matrix to locate tasks and responsibilities of a managerial team.
