This paper aims at giving a concise presentation of a manuscript held in the library of the University of Benghazi (Libya), theKitāb al-Ǧawhara fī nasab al-nabī ṣallā Allāh ʽalayhi wa-sallam wa-aṣḥābihi al-ʽašaraby Abū ʽAbd Allāh Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr b. ʽAbd Allāh b. Mūsà al-Anṣārī al-Barrī al-Tilimsānī (596/1200-681/1282).Although it has previously been mentioned in other publications, this manuscript did not draw attention of the scholars dedicated to the cultural history of al-Andalus. Due to the situation of the conservation institution, it turned out impossible to get or present modern reproductions. Still, since a photography has been given in a catalogue, the last folio proved very useful. It is clearly stating the origin of the work, which was copied in Minorca by its very author in the year 645/1248. Moreover, it was offered as a gift to Saʽīd b. Ḥakam al-Qurašī, who was the governor of the island, and who founded a library whose richness has been celebrated by medieval authors. In the current state of the documentation, this manuscript is the fifth to be explicitly linked to this library - the others being kept in the royal library of San Lorenzo del Escorial. After that, the history of the manuscript remains quite unclear. It resurfaced only in 19th century Libya, being then the property of Muḥammad b. ʽAlī al-Sanūsī, founder of the powerfulṭarīqaal-Sanūsiyya., Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar un manuscrito conservado en la biblioteca de la Universidad de Bengasi (Libia) que contiene elKitāb al-Ǧawhara fī nasab al-nabī ṣallā Allāh ʽalayhi wa-sallam wa-aṣḥābihi al-ʽašarapor Abū ʽAbd Allāh Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr b. ʽAbd Allāh b. Mūsà al-Anṣārī al-Barrī al-Tilimsānī (596/1200-681/1282).Aunque ha sido mencionado en algunas publicaciones, no llamó la atención de los especialistas de la historia cultural de al-Andalus. Debido a la situación actual de la institución de conservación, no ha sido posible ver ni ofrecer reproducciones. Aun así, como se cedió una fotografía para un catálogo, el último folio resultó muy útil. Se hace constar claramente el origen de la obra, que fue copiada en Menorca por su propio autor en el año 645/1248. Además, se puede observar que fue ofrecido como regalo a Saʽīd b. Ḥakam al-Qurašī, el gobernador de la isla, que fundó una biblioteca cuya riqueza fue celebrada por los autores medievales. En el estado actual del conocimiento, se trata precisamente del quinto manuscrito identificado, encontrándose hoy los otros cuatro en la Real Biblioteca del Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial. La historia del manuscrito permanece oscura, aunque se puede dar por establecido que reapareció en Libia a mediados del siglo XIX, siendo entonces propiedad de Muḥammad b. ʽAlī al-Sanūsī, fundador de la poderosaṭarīqa al-Sanūsiyya.

This article presents the major outcomes from the excavations undertaken in 2022 at the site of Cerro de San Vicente (Salamanca), enlarging the area unearthed in 2021. The paper discusses the diachronic sequence of this setting and its functional and social interpretation. Household religion is addressed via several cult buildings and a large repertoire of liturgical objects: wheel-thrown painted Egyptian or Levantine and Phoenician red-slip tableware, a faience piece of inlay and faience beads featuring oriental iconography, local terracotta, burners, and tableware with orientalizing motifs, etc. In addition, new indicators of aristocratic practices stand out: instruments for high-quality handicrafts –pottery and textile work– and two equestrian bone items of harnesses. Cooking with ceramic trays and portable tandoor-like stoves, specialized crafts, domestic cults, and buildings refer, as a whole, to the Mediterranean koiné. All these lines of evidence lead to interpret the excavated sector as a domestic sanctuary dedicated to a female deity –likely a local expression of Hathor-Ashtart– integrated into the neighbourhood of a central courtyard compound occupied by a multi-family virilocal residential group. The article reclaims the key role of the women of that broad and high-ranking corporate social unit in the transmission and performance of know-how and practices of spiritual and material maintenance., Se presentan los resultados de las excavaciones de 2022 en el Cerro de San Vicente (Salamanca), que amplían el área exhumada en 2021. Se discute la secuencia diacrónica de dicho espacio y su interpretación funcional y social. Se aborda la religiosidad doméstica a partir de varios edificios de uso cultual y un abundante elenco de objetos litúrgicos: vajilla torneada egipcia o levantina pintada y fenicia de engobe rojo, un aplique de taracea y abalorios de fayenza con iconografía oriental, pebeteros y terracotas y vajilla local con temas orientalizantes, etc. Además, sobresalen los nuevos indicadores de prácticas aristocráticas: instrumentos para artesanías de alta calidad –alfarería y actividades textiles– y atalajes ecuestres –dos camas de bocados óseos–. El cocinado con bandejas y hornillos de atanor, las artesanías especializadas, los rituales domésticos y la edilicia remiten también al ámbito mediterráneo. Todas estas evidencias permiten interpretar el sector excavado como un espacio ceremonial y a la vez doméstico dedicado a una deidad femenina –probable trasunto local de Hathor-Astarté– integrado en el vecindario de patio central de un grupo residencial virilocal multifamiliar. Se reivindica el protagonismo de las mujeres de aquella unidad corporativa amplia y de alto rango en la transmisión y desempeño de todos esos saberes procedimentales y actividades de mantenimiento espiritual y material.

Engraved pendants are one of the most well-known ornaments used by hunter-gatherers during the Magdalenian. In this paper, we present a new pendant found in the cave of Aizkoltxo (Mendaro, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country). This object was carefully engraved with both figurative –a red deer hind and two aquatic zoomorphs– and non-figurative depictions –X-shaped motifs and simple lines– on a halved rib where a single perforation was produced bipolar drilling. It has been dated to the Final Magdalenian, a moment when the site was heavily used, judging by the abundance of lithics, osseous industry, and faunal remains found. The significance of this object does not lie in its uniqueness but in the similarities it has with others in the Cantabrian region (Valle and El Pendo) and southern France (Lortet, La Vache, Arancou, and Chaffaud). This is both because of the bone used, a rib, and the decoration it displays. The marine animals depicted point towards a commonality in the symbolic code of this chronological horizon, indicating ties between the different groups that lived in Western Europe between 16.500 and 13.000 cal BP., Los adornos-colgantes son uno de los ornamentos más utilizados por los cazadores recolectores durante el Magdaleniense. En este artículo presentamos uno nuevo recuperado de la cueva de Aizkoltxo (Mendaro, Gipuzkoa) grabado cuidadosamente con representaciones tanto figurativas –una cierva y dos zoomorfos marinos– como no figurativas –aspas y trazos simples– en una lámina de una costilla en la que se practicó una única perforación hecha por rotación bipolar. Ha sido datada en el Magdaleniense Final, un momento en el que el yacimiento fue muy frecuentado a juzgar por la abundancia de industria lítica, ósea y restos faunísticos localizados. La importancia de este objeto no radica en su singularidad sino en las similitudes que presenta con otros en la región cantábrica (Valle y El Pendo) y el sur de Francia (Lortet, La Vache, Arancou y Chaffaud). Esto se debe tanto al soporte, costilla, como a la decoración. Los animales marinos apuntan a afinidades en el código simbólico de esta cronología, indicando lazos entre los diferentes grupos que vivieron en Europa occidental entre hace 16.500 y 13.000 años cal BP.

This paper analyses documentaries from the silent era of cinema during the Mexican Revolution, specifically those made during the heat of the armed conflict between 1910 and 1917. The objective is to reflect on the way in which filmic images contributed to forging the myth of the Revolution as Mexicanity and, based on this mythification, to problematize the temporality of the images and their social and political evolution. It is argued that documentaries from the revolutionary period contributed significantly (along with other cultural practices: painting, literature, theatre) to the structuring of a social imaginary that conceived the armed struggle as a sign of identity. Analysis of the documentaries shot during the revolutionary process will show how these filmic images made a historicity of the Revolution legible and, at the same time, inscribed a new cultural matrix that instituted, for example, the rebellious peasantry as a discourse on which to build this new Mexicanity. Thus, the Revolution as Mexicanity was established as a new socio-political paradigm on which was cemented the populist nationalism that would be shaped as a cultural ethos within Mexican society throughout the twentieth century., En este trabajo se analizan los documentales del período silente de la Revolución mexicana, específicamente aquellos que fueron realizados durante el fragor de la contienda armada entre 1910 y 1917. El objetivo es reflexionar acerca del modo en que las imágenes fílmicas contribuyeron a forjar el mito de la Revolución como mexicanidad y, a partir de esa mitificación, problematizar la temporalidad de las imágenes y su devenir social y político. Se sostiene que los documentales del período revolucionario favorecieron de manera significativa (junto con otras prácticas culturales: pintura, literatura, teatro) la estructuración de un imaginario social que concibió la lucha armada como seña de identidad. El análisis de los documentales rodados durante el proceso revolucionario mostrará cómo esas imágenes fílmicas hicieron legible una historicidad de la Revolución y, al mismo tiempo, inscribieron una nueva matriz cultural que instituyó, por ejemplo, al campesinado rebelde como discurso sobre el cual construir esa nueva mexicanidad. De este modo, la Revolución como mexicanidad se instauró como un nuevo paradigma sociopolítico sobre el cual se cimentó el nacionalismo populista que se irá conformando como ethos cultural dentro de la sociedad mexicana a lo largo del siglo XX.

This paper analyses six recent publications addressing the history of the 20th Century in East-Central Europe. The aim is to critically comment the main research topics of the region. The paper connects these books with other publications and debates that have shaped the main trends in East-Central European historiography in the last two decades., El presente artículo analiza seis publicaciones recientes que abordan la historia del siglo XX en Europa central y del este. El objetivo del texto es comentar críticamente los principales temas de la investigación reciente sobre la región, conectando estos libros con otras publicaciones y debates que han marcado las líneas de fuga de la historiografía de las dos últimas décadas.

This article analyses the relationship between vertical syndicalism and the Catholic Church. For this purpose, it focuses on theAsesoría Eclesiástica de Sindicatos,an organization composed of priests that was part of theOrganización Sindicaland whose main function was the development of apostolic activities among workers. The paper has two parts: the first reconstructs the creation process of theAsesoría,examining the motivations that led theOrganización Sindicalto request the collaboration of the Church and the terms on which the Church agreed to do so; the second part analyses the main religious activities organized by theAsesoríaand identifies the model of spirituality and the social conceptions on which they were based. The main source used is the archival documentation generated by theAsesoríaitself. The methodology is based on the critical review of this source as a way to contextualize theAsesoríawithin both the institutional and religious history of the Francoist regime., Este artículo analiza las relaciones entre el sindicalismo vertical y la Iglesia católica. Para ello, se centra en la Asesoría Eclesiástica de Sindicatos, un organismo integrado por sacerdotes que formaba parte de la Organización Sindical y cuya principal función consistía en el desarrollo de actividades de apostolado entre los obreros. El trabajo consta de dos partes: la primera reconstruye el proceso de creación de la Asesoría, profundizando en las motivaciones que llevaron a la Organización Sindical a solicitar la colaboración de la Iglesia y en los términos en que esta aceptó prestar dicha colaboración; mientras que la segunda analiza las principales actividades religiosas organizadas por la Asesoría, identificando el modelo de espiritualidad y las concepciones sociales en que se sustentaban las mismas. La principal fuente utilizada es la documentación archivística generada por la propia Asesoría. La metodología parte de la revisión crítica de la fuente como vía para contextualizar la Asesoría dentro de la historia institucional y la historia religiosa del régimen franquista.

This crisis worried the papacy because of its consequences for international order and the situation of the newly incorporated kingdom of Naples. With access to new Vatican, French and Spanish documentation, this paper reconstructs the Roman perspective of the confrontation between Ferdinand the Catholic and Philip of Habsburg over the governorship of Castile, assessing its impact on theCuriaand Julius II’s attitude to the change in succession. The splitting of the embassy, and the emergence of rival factions were some of the consequences of a dispute that Pope Julius II sought to pacify by supporting the transfer of power to Philip the Fair —without disavowing the Catholic king— in order to obtain an ally more amenable to his interests, regain control of the Castilian Church and attenuate the pressure that Ferdinand could exert from Naples., La crisis sucesoria suscitada tras el fallecimiento de Isabel I de Castilla (1504) abrió graves interrogantes sobre el futuro de la Corona que inquietaron al papado por sus consecuencias en el orden internacional y la situación del reino de Nápoles, recién incorporado a la monarquía. Con nueva documentación vaticana, francesa y española, este trabajo reconstruye la perspectiva romana del enfrentamiento de Fernando el Católico y Felipe de Habsburgo por la gobernación castellana, valorando su impacto en la Curia y la actitud de Julio II ante el cambio sucesorio. El desdoblamiento de la embajada y el surgimiento de facciones rivales fueron algunas consecuencias de una disputa que el papa della Rovere quiso pacificar apoyando el traspaso de poder a Felipe el Hermoso —sin desautorizar al rey Católico— para lograr un aliado más dúctil a sus intereses, recuperar el control de la Iglesia castellana y atenuar la presión que Fernando podía ejercer desde Nápoles.

This paper explores the way in which late medieval craftsman’s homes were both a domestic and productive space, and a complex and fluid living environment. It examines the property regime prevalent among artisans, and the dynamics that developed in this family space and the experiences that took place. It focuses specifically on the master carpenter, since the Valencia Carpenters Guild encompassed both joiners, master builders, painters and image makers. The analysis methodology is based on documentary sources, in particular notarial protocols and judicial processes, which contain the records of movable property in the home. This analysis reveals clues about the layout and equipment of the dwelling, which gives us an insight into the inner workings of medieval homes, and how they were furnished and inhabited by these master artisans, their wives and children, relatives, servants and apprentices. The article also considers the ideologies projected through material culture and the type of spirituality that developed in the late medieval city., Este artículo explora la forma en que la vivienda del artesanado en el periodo bajomedieval funcionó como espacio doméstico y productivo, siendo un entorno vital complejo y fluido. Se pregunta sobre el régimen de propiedad de la misma prevalente entre el artesanado, así como sobre las dinámicas que se desarrollaron en este espacio en el que discurría la vida familiar, con todo el cúmulo de experiencias que comportaba. Se centra en el ejemplo del maestro carpintero, ya que la corporación de carpinteros de Valencia abarcaba tanto a carpinteros en sentido estricto, como a maestros de obras, pintores e imagineros. La metodología de análisis se basa en la exploración de fuentes documentales, en particular de protocolos notariales y procesos judiciales, que contienen los registros de los bienes muebles de la casa. Paralelamente, la inspección desvela indicios sobre la estructura del domicilio y su dotación, que nos ayudan a entender el funcionamiento interno de los hogares medievales, cómo fueron amueblados y habitados por los maestros, sus esposas e hijos, sus parientes, sirvientes y aprendices. El artículo considera además las nociones ideologías que se proyectaron a través de la cultura material y el tipo de espiritualidad que se desarrolló en la ciudad medieval tardía.

This paper deals with the linguistic varieties spoken on the Spanish-Portuguese border during the Early Modern Period and the way their speakers were characterized and ridiculed by cultured elites. Criticism of “rusticity” and “barbarism” in their manner of speaking was in its way a recognition of the remarkable linguistic pluralism in the region, that has generally neglected by historians. By examining the reasons for the vitality and continuity of these vernacular forms in La Raya, the article shows that the dichotomy between the Spanish and Portuguese languages is insufficient to explain the nature of day-to-day life in the region by itself. Also discussed is the weak institutional presence of the Spanish and Portuguese monarchies in this area, which contrasts with the social and political structures of the local community: this preponderance of the local sphere may justify the cultural and linguistic practices of the border people., Este artículo se ocupa de las variedades lingüísticas presentes en la frontera hispano-portuguesa en la Edad Moderna y del modo en que sus hablantes fueron caracterizados y ridiculizados por las élites letradas. Se defiende en él que las críticas a la «rusticidad» y la «barbarie» en el hablar de sus habitantes indicarían en realidad un reconocimiento implícito de una destacable pluralidad lingüística que generalmente ha sido obviada por los historiadores. Preguntándose por los motivos de la pervivencia de estas formas vernáculas en la frontera y su vitalidad, el artículo pone de manifiesto que la dicotomía portugués/castellano es demasiado pobre para entender el día a día de la Raya por sí sola. Evidencia, por último, la débil presencia institucional de las monarquías española y portuguesa en esta región en contraposición a los ordenamientos sociales y políticos estructurados en torno a la comunidad local y sugiere, en consecuencia, que la preponderancia del ámbito local puede explicar las prácticas culturales y lingüísticas de los fronterizos.

This paper focuses on a particular version of the folktale ATU 1215 which has never been mentioned in modern studies. It was transmitted by the Iraqi scholar Ibn Ṭāwūs through hisFatḥ al-abwābin the 13thcentury and it is one of the earliest written traces of this folktale, as well as the only medieval version -in opposition to the two others known to date from the same period- in which the main character, the father, is called Luqmān. This was the starting point of a transmission which has been taking place inshī’īcircles from the mentioned century until today. The particular characteristics of this Arabic version have been thoroughly studied and a connection between this and others -also premodern, both known and unknown to date- has been established. Moreover, a comparison with other medieval Christian versions has been carried out and a hypothesis on the alleged Aesopic origin of the tale has been formulated. On the other hand, oral versions with Juḥā as a main character have also been examined, considering their influence in the oral diffusion of the tale as well as their association with an old saying. Main conclusions focus on the relevance of Ibn Ṭāwūs’s version. At the same time, light is shed on the fact that some of the studied texts were part of a broad diffusion which took place in the Islamic East in the 13thcentury, from which a version similar to the one recorded by the Iraqui writer travelled towards Europe and circulated through collections ofexemplaof Christian authors., Este artículo trata de una versión novedosa del cuento folclórico ATU 1215 desconocida hasta la fecha para la crítica que se ha ocupado del mismo. Fue transmitida por el erudito iraquí Ibn Ṭāwūs y data del s. XIII. Dicho texto presenta varios puntos de interés: se trata de una de las muestras escritas más antiguas de este cuento folclórico e introduce la novedad de Luqmān como protagonista paterno respecto a las otras dos versiones árabes conocidas de época medieval, inaugurando una transmisión entre intelectuales chiíes que alcanza hasta la actualidad. A lo largo del trabajo, estudiamos las particularidades de esta versión árabe y la ponemos en relación con las demás árabes premodernas conocidas y otras que sacamos a la luz, comparándolas en ciertos aspectos con otras cristianas medievales. Además, tratamos de explicar por qué en algunos casos se ha considerado el cuento una fábula esópica. Por otro lado, prestamos atención a varias versiones orales protagonizadas por Ǧuḥā y su contribución a la difusión oral del cuento en el mundo árabe asociado a un antiguo refrán. Nuestras conclusiones insisten en la relevancia de la versión de Ibn Ṭāwūs, por los motivos mencionados. Además, concluimos que varios de los textos abordados demuestran la difusión del relato en Oriente en el s. XIII, desde donde una versión emparentada con la del escritor iraquí habría llegado a Europa y circulado en ejemplarios de autores cristianos.

Historically, the Iberian peninsula has accounted for a relevant record concerning our knowledge of Palaeolithic societies. However, when it comes to the first modern human occupation and the Neandertal demise, such a record shows an important problem: the odd scarcity of evidence in the large regions of inland Iberia. The MULTIPALEOIBERIA project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), assumes that this scarcity is due to a historical research bias. Consequently, it poses the hypothesis that the human occupation of the inland Iberia during this period was more complex and stable than previously thought, and hence it aims at gathering unprecedented data to put the classic views into the test. This project is devised as an interdisciplinary and collaborative macro-project applied to several regions of the Iberian hinterland, and it embraces human-climate-environment interactions as its main research focus. Its methodology involves searching new sites, fieldwork in at least 24 known archaeological, palaeoecological, and rock art locations, a wide program of chronometric cross-dating, a detailed multi-proxy palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, and the study of techno-economic, symbolic, mobility, and land-use strategies of the last Neandertals and first modern humans in inland Iberia. It is expected that the results of this project will have a high impact on topics such as the potential late survival of Neandertals in southern Europe, the nature and timing of the first modern human settlement of Iberia, or the cultural adaptations of Pleistocene hunter-gatherers to ecologically risky environments. In this paper, we present the hypotheses, objectives, theoretical and methodological framework, as well as the first results of MULTIPALEOIBERIA., Históricamente, la península ibérica ha presentado un registro de gran relevancia para el conocimiento de las sociedades paleolíticas. Sin embargo, en lo referido a la primera ocupación de humanos modernos y la desaparición de los neandertales, dicho registro presenta un problema fundamental: la anómala escasez de evidencias en las amplias regiones del interior peninsular. El proyecto MULTIPALEOIBERIA, financiado por el Consejo Europeo de Investigación (ERC), asume que dicha escasez se debe a un déficit histórico de la investigación. Por ello, plantea la hipótesis de que la ocupación humana del interior de Iberia durante este periodo fue más compleja y duradera de lo asumido tradicionalmente, y tiene como objetivo principal obtener nuevos datos para contrastar las visiones clásicas. Se plantea como un macro-proyecto interdisciplinar y colaborativo aplicado a varios territorios de las dos submesetas ibéricas, y con la interacción entre cultura, ambiente y clima como marco de investigación fundamental. Su metodología implica la búsqueda de nuevos yacimientos, trabajo de campo en al menos 24 localizaciones arqueológicas, paleoecológicas o rupestres, un amplio programa de datación cronométrica, una detallada reconstrucción paleoambiental multi-proxy, así como el análisis de las estrategias tecno-económicas, simbólicas, de movilidad y uso del territorio de los últimos neandertales y primeros humanos modernos en el interior peninsular. Se espera que sus resultados presenten un alto impacto en temas como la potencial pervivencia tardía de neandertales en el sur de Europa, la naturaleza y cronología de la primera ocupación de humanos modernos de la península, o las adaptaciones culturales de cazadores-recolectores pleistocenos a contextos de rigurosidad climática y alto riesgo ecológico. En este artículo se presentan las hipótesis, objetivos, marco teórico-metodológico y primeros resultados de MULTIPALEOIBERIA.

The paper presents a reconstruction and interpretation of three exhibition of psychopathological art organized by the Spanish neuropsychiatrist Gonzalo Rodríguez Lafora in preceding months to the Spanish Civil War. Originally, this project was conceived to the VII Reunión de la Asociación Española de Neuropsiquiatras and VI Asamblea de la Liga Española de Higiene Mental from 2 to 4 December 1935, but it became itinerant after being exhibited again at the Ateneo de Madrid and at the Casa del Médico de Barcelona. Study the three exhibitions provides to the current research very important readings concerning to the Psychopathological art in Spain at the beginning of the 20th Century, which we provide along this paper., El objetivo del presente trabajo es ofrecer una reconstrucción e interpretación de tres exposiciones de arte psicopatológico organizadas por el neuropsiquiatra Gonzalo Rodríguez Lafora en los meses previos a la Guerra Civil Española. Inicialmente, el proyecto fue ideado en el marco de la VII Reunión de la Asociación Española de Neuropsiquiatras y la VI Asamblea de la Liga Española de Higiene Mental, celebradas simultáneamente en el Instituto Santiago Ramón y Cajal de Madrid entre el 2 y el 4 de diciembre de 1935. Aunque, acabó siendo itinerante al trasladarse dos semanas después al Ateneo de Madrid (17 de diciembre), y, una vez más, a la Casa del Médico de Barcelona en mayo de 1936. El estudio de las tres exposiciones brinda a la investigación actual varias lecturas sobre el caso español con referencia al estudio del arte psicopatológico a principios del siglo XX, las cuales se desarrollan a lo largo del artículo.

This paper explores the main references of the biographical data known to date and an introductory analysis of her illustrated botanical work., Nancy Anne Kingsbury Wollstonecraft nació en octubre de 1781. Los primeros datos que tenemos sobre ella la sitúan en Estados Unidos, desde donde viajaría a Matanzas (Cuba), residiendo varios años allí y trabajando en una gran obra de botánica ilustrada, hasta su muerte, el 16 de mayo de 1828. La obra de Nancy Anne Kingsbury Wollstonecraft -a partir de ahora, A. K. Wollstonecraft- comprende observaciones sobre más de cien especies vegetales de la Isla de Cuba, datos sobre la etimología de su nomenclatura, usos y aplicaciones de las plantas, así como datos sobre los hechos históricos que la rodean y sus propias reflexiones personales. Esto convierte a esta obra en un manuscrito extraordinario que transita entre la ciencia, el arte y el relato de viajes. En este artículo se presentan las principales referencias de los datos biográficos conocidos hasta el momento y un análisis introductorio a su obra botánica ilustrada.

The craft of shipbuilding, its techniques, tools and the final products, the ships, as well as the knowledge necessary for their manufacture, are part of the universal maritime cultural heritage. Wood shipbuilding is an endangered ancestral trade, thus putting at risk one of the most important elements of the identity of European coastal regions. The scarce academic historiography on shipwrights as protagonists is the main reason for this paper, which delves into their roots, revealing some of the most relevant aspects that define and identify the importance of the subject, such as the main activities done, their historical contextualization, their techniques, tools, and the seafaring lingua franca they shared. Therefore, the main goal is to provide a reference source for those who try, both theoretically and practically, to restore and conserve this ancestral profession on which there is hardly any information or research. It follows that the restoration and management of this heritage, with broad connections to other related activities, can help economic and patrimonial consolidation in underdeveloped maritime areas, as it can be useful in laying the foundations for a future cultural tourism in which these ancestral techniques are protagonists and serve to enhance maritime identity in coastal regions., La profesión de carpintero de ribera, sus técnicas, las herramientas utilizadas, los productos finales: los barcos, así como los conocimientos necesarios para su fabricación forman parte del patrimonio cultural marítimo universal. La construcción en madera es un oficio milenario que está en peligro de desaparición, y con ella uno de los elementos identitarios más importantes de las regiones costeras europeas. La escasa historiografía académica sobre los carpinteros de ribera como protagonistas es el principal motivo de este trabajo, que se adentra en sus raíces, dando a conocer algunos de los aspectos más relevantes que definen e identifican la importancia del tema, como las principales actividades desarrolladas, su contextualización histórica, las técnicas, herramientas y la lengua franca marinera que compartían. Por ello, el fin último es proporcionar una fuente de referencia a quiénes apuesten, tanto de manera teórica como práctica, por la recuperación y la conservación de esta profesión ancestral sobre la que apenas existe información e investigación. Se concluye que la recuperación y gestión de este patrimonio, con vinculaciones amplias con otras actividades relacionadas, puede abrir perspectivas de consolidación patrimonial y económica en espacios marítimos poco desarrollados, ya que puede servir para sentar las bases de un futuro turismo cultural en el que estas técnicas sean protagonistas y sirvan para potenciar la identidad marítima en las regiones litorales.

Equitable access to energy and housing are primary concerns for social justice. Despite the evident links between these two basic needs, the theoretical frameworks of justice and energy poverty have dealt with the issue of housing primarily through the narrow lens of residential energy efficiency. In response to this conceptual deficiency, this paper calls for the re-integration of housing into the framework of justice and energy poverty, thinking along the following three axes: material and temporal dimensions; political dimensions; and ethical and legal dimensions. To empirically illustrate the relevance of the housing-energy nexus in applied energy justice research, we present the example of two closely-related Barcelona-based social movements jointly advocating for both the right to energy and the right to housing: the Platform of People affected by Mortgages (Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca, PAH) and the Alliance against Energy Poverty (Aliança contra la Pobresa Energètica, APE). To conclude, the paper highlights the importance of housing and energy as the material foundations of a dignified life and their conflicting nature of being essential needs as well as tradable commodities., El acceso equitativo a la energía y a la vivienda es una preocupación básica de la justicia social. A pesar de los numerosos vínculos entre estos dos bienes esenciales, los marcos teóricos de la justicia y la pobreza energética se han referido casi exclusivamente a la cuestión de la vivienda en términos de la eficiencia energética de los edificios residenciales. En respuesta a esta carencia conceptual, se propone la reintegración del factor vivienda en el marco de la justicia y pobreza energética a lo largo de los siguientes tres ejes: dimensiones materiales y temporales; dimensiones políticas; y dimensiones éticas y legales. Como ejemplo empírico de la importancia del nexo vivienda-energía en la práctica de la justicia social, se presenta el caso de dos movimientos sociales surgidos en Barcelona que trabajan con una perspectiva conjunta de derecho a la vivienda y a la energía: la Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH) y laAliança contra la Pobresa Energètica(APE). El artículo subraya la importancia de la vivienda y la energía como fundamentos materiales de una vida digna y su naturaleza conflictiva como necesidades esenciales y bienes de mercado.

In this paper, a numerical study is carried out to assess the bearing capacity of SFRC pipes considering random orientation and distribution of the fibers. For this purpose, the three edge bearing test (TEBT) is simulated through a 3D finite element model in combination with the Monte Carlo method. The fibers are represented as discrete elements randomly distributed in the concrete mass. The pull-out phenomenon is considered by means of a modification of the steel constitutive model. In addition, a parametric study considering variations in the dosage of fibers and concrete class is conducted. Results shown that the randomness in the distribution and orientation of the fibers significantly affects the maximum load achieved by SFRC pipes. However, this maximum load does not vary significantly when the fiber distribution follows a uniform probability function; in this case the concrete class is the predominant parameter., En este trabajo, se presenta un estudio numérico para evaluar la capacidad de carga de tubos de HRFA considerando una orientación y distribución de fibras aleatoria. Para ello, se simuló el ensayo de tres aristas a través de un modelo de elementos finitos 3D en combinación con el método de Monte Carlo. Las fibras son representadas como elementos discretos distribuidos aleatoriamente en la masa de hormigón. El fenómeno de arrancamiento es considerado a través de una modificación del modelo constitutivo del acero. Además, se realizó un estudio paramétrico considerando variaciones en el dosaje de fibras y la clase de hormigón. Los resultados mostraron que la aleatoriedad en la distribución y orientación de las fibras afecta significativamente la carga máxima alcanzada con los tubos de HRFA. Sin embargo, esta carga máxima no varía sensiblemente cuando la distribución sigue una función de probabilidad uniforme, siendo la clase de hormigón el parámetro predominante.

World experience on the loss of historic assets corroborates that urban heritage settlements built with earth are at evident seismic risk. This problem positions structural interventions of seismic reinforcement as an alternative to protect this type of buildings. This paper presents an architectural proposal for seismic reinforcement with common reed (Phragmites australis) for adobe masonry walls in heritage buildings; the methodological process includes material characterization, archetype construction, design and validation of the reinforcement by the test of physical models that represent the horizontal action of lateral loads on archetypes with and without structural reinforcement. The experimental results show that the angle of inclination of the reinforced archetypes exceeds those without reinforcement by 17.49% and the width of the cracks is reduced by 71.47%, increasing the bending capacity. The project is also 87.32% adapted for use according to criteria of authenticity, minimum intervention and compatibility., La experiencia mundial sobre la pérdida de bienes históricos corrobora que los asentamientos urbanos patrimoniales construidos con tierra se encuentran en evidente riesgo sísmico. Esta problemática posiciona a las intervenciones de refuerzo estructural como una alternativa para proteger estas edificaciones. En el presente artículo se plantea una propuesta arquitectónica para el refuerzo sísmico con carrizo (Phragmites australis) para muros de mampostería de adobe; el proceso metodológico incluye la caracterización del material, construcción de arquetipos, diseño y validación del refuerzo a partir de ensayos físicos que representen el efecto de cargas horizontales en arquetipos con y sin refuerzo estructural. Los resultados experimentales muestran que el ángulo de inclinación de los arquetipos reforzados supera a aquellos sin refuerzo en 17,49%, y el ancho de las fisuras se reduce en 71,47%. También se incrementa la capacidad a flexión y se adapta en 87,32% para uso según criterios de autenticidad, mínima intervención y compatibilidad.

Despite some scattered precedents and exceptions, there is an evident gap in the literature on the concept of community-based scientific culture. By this we refer to situations in which citizens perceive a problem, come together, organise, communicate, and pool their resources to search for, evaluate and produce scientific knowledge to address the problem. In this paper, we propose a characterisation of community-based scientific culture. Subsequently, we apply and contrast it to the case of groups of people affected by long COVID. The methodology used was based on documentary analysis., A pesar de algunos antecedentes dispersos y excepciones, existe una manifiesta laguna en la literatura sobre el concepto de cultura científica comunitaria. Con esa expresión nos referimos a situaciones en las cuales unos ciudadanos perciben un problema, se agrupan, organizan, comunican y ponen en común sus recursos para buscar, evaluar y producir conocimiento científico con el fin de encarar dicho problema. En este trabajo realizamos una propuesta de caracterización de la cultura científica comunitaria. Posteriormente, procedemos a aplicarla y contrastarla respecto del caso de los colectivos de afectados por la COVID persistente. La metodología empleada se ha basado en el análisis documental.

The excavations undertaken at the Early Iron Age village of Cerro de San Vicente (Salamanca) revealed an informal aggregate of dwellings and ancillary buildings of adobe which matches the cross‑cultural spatial pattern for patrilocal practices. The paper focuses on house 1 and its adjoining middens. This dwelling was exceptional due to its long and stable biography, its clay furniture –with two benches for 20 people and a hearth in the shape of an oxhide– and ritualized abandonment using an intense conflagration dated to 650‑575 BC and its filling with adobes. The excavations revealed an unusual concentration of querns and fine local hand‑made pottery. The excavations recovered implements used for specialized and high‑quality crafts, such as potterymaking and weaving, as well as a set of finds unprecedented in the interior of Iberia stands out: exotic faience beads and tableware from the eastern Mediterranean, Phoenician red slip ceramics, and liturgical terracotta items with Tartessian and Mediterranean parallels. All these findings suggest that house 1 was the gathering hall of an extended corporate group where intense social activities –hosting banquets and transactions with guests– took place and where such startling artefacts ended up., Se presentan los resultados de las excavaciones (2006, 2017 y 2021) en un sector de la aldea del Hierro I del Cerro de San Vicente (Salamanca). Se ha exhumado un agregado informal de edificios y estructuras adjetivas de adobe cuyo patrón espacial es afín al esquema transcultural patrilocal. El artículo se centra en la casa 1 y sus cenizales. Tal vivienda fue excepcional por su larga e ininterrumpida biografía, su mobiliario de barro –con dos poyos que pudieron acoger hasta 20 personas y un hogar con forma de piel de toro extendida– y su abandono ritualizado –quemada c. 650-575 a.C. y recrecida con adobes de sus paredes–. La excavación reveló una alta concentración de molinos y vajilla fina local pintada, así como instrumental de labores especializadas y altamente cualificadas –alfarería e hilado–. Sobresale un lote de hallazgos inéditos en el interior de la península ibérica: exóticos abalorios y vajilla de fayenza del Mediterráneo oriental, cerámica de engobe rojo fenicia y objetos litúrgicos y coroplástica con paralelos tartésicos y mediterráneos. Todos estos hallazgos indican que la casa 1 acogió una asidua actividad social –banquetes y transacciones con huéspedes– como cabaña de reuniones de un grupo corporativo extenso, donde acabaron tan destacados objetos.

This paper presents the evidence for metallurgical production at the sites of Cala Blanca and Son Mercer de Baix (Minorca) during the Naviform period. We also explore the circulation of metal in this period, including the study of several unpublished ingots. The information presented here allows us to contextualize the process of metallurgical production on the island and to characterize the evidence through XRF‑ED analysis. This contributes to a better understanding of the production spaces and circulation of metal on the island of Minorca, with several implications for the Balearic archipelago and the Western Mediterranean during the Late Bronze Age., En este trabajo se da a conocer un conjunto material asociado a la producción metalúrgica en Menorca durante el periodo Naviforme, mediante los casos de Cala Blanca y Son Mercer de Baix. Además, se tratan aspectos relativos a la circulación de metal incluyendo en el estudio varios conjuntos de lingotes inéditos. La información presentada permite contextualizar las prácticas de producción metalúrgica en la isla y caracterizar dichos conjuntos de evidencias mediante su análisis de composición elemental (FRX-ED). En conjunto, se arrojan datos importantes para la comprensión de los espacios de producción y formas de circulación de metal en la isla de Menorca con implicaciones para el archipiélago balear y el Mediterráneo Occidental durante el Bronce Final.

In the Canary Islands the /s/ is characterized, generally, by its aspiration in the implosive position and its realization as predorsodental in the plosive position. However, on the Island of El Hierro two phenomena have been registered that oppose this standard: the frequent sibilant realization in the implosive position and the perception in any context as a sound similar to the Castilian /s/ (apicoalveolar). From the perspective of variation linguistics, this paper aims to check, stemming from data of the island’s most conservative municipality, El Pinar, whether the weight of the Canarian standard has homogenized the realization of this phenomena., La /s/ en Canarias se caracteriza, en general, por su aspiración en posición implosiva y su realización como predorsodental en posición explosiva. En la isla de El Hierro, en cambio, se han registrado dos fenómenos que se apartan de esta norma: la frecuente realización sibilante en posición implosiva y la percepción en cualquier contexto como un sonido similar al de la /s/ castellana (apicoalveolar). Desde la perspectiva de la lingüística de la variación, este trabajo pretende comprobar, a partir de datos del municipio más conservador de la isla, El Pinar, si el peso de la norma canaria ha homogeneizado la realización de este fonema.

This paper studies the origins of propagandistic literature on the North African campaign promoted by Ferdinand II of Aragon in the early years of the 16th century. The crisis of the Castilian succession and the maturing of the project relating to the Sultanate of Tremecen reactivated the Mazalquivir campaign (1505), which was publicized in Rome through a Laus Hispaniae that reflects for the first time Hispano-Papal synergy in relation to the new Imperium Christianum announced by Julius II. In this context, the celebrations for the taking of the Algerian Port gave rise to an African literary series which developed in the form of epistles, poems and speeches made in the Iberian Peninsula and in Italy., Este trabajo estudia los orígenes de la literatura propagandística sobre la campaña norteafricana impulsada por Fernando II de Aragón a inicios del siglo XVI. La crisis sucesoria castellana y la maduración del proyecto sobre el sultanato de Tremecén reactivó la campaña de Mazalquivir (1505) divulgada en Roma a través de una Laus Hispaniae que refleja por primera vez las sinergias hispano-papales sobre el nuevo Imperium Christianum anunciado por Julio II. En este contexto, las celebraciones por la toma del puerto argelino originaron un ciclo literario africano que se desarrolló en forma de epístolas, poemas y discursos pronunciados en la península ibérica y en la italiana.

In this paper I study a manuscript that supposedly contains a play by Lope de Vega titled El cortesano embustero and I will show that it is another copy of a play by Sevillian playwright Cepeda known as La española. By studying the materiality of this overlooked manuscript and the text that it contains, I will be able to offer new insights on the circulation and reception of this play by Cepeda and establish some essential philological foundations for a future critical edition of this text., En este artículo analizo un manuscrito que supuestamente contiene una comedia de Lope de Vega titulada de El cortesano embustero y mostraré cómo en realidad es un nuevo testimonio de la comedia del dramaturgo sevillano Cepeda titulada La española. El estudio de la materialidad y del texto que presenta este manuscrito desatendido permitirá profundizar en la historia de la circulación y recepción de esta pieza teatral de Cepeda y establecer algunos fundamentos filológicos imprescindibles para una futura edición crítica de la obra.

In this paper we study the names of the various subtypes of gout (as well as the neuralgia derived from them) that look the form of compounds in -agra that proliferated in the formation of medical terminology, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. Consequently, both the etymology (and the routes of transmission into Spanish) and the textual record of about twenty selected terms are thoroughly analyzed. In addition, we offer a synthesis of the treatment of these words in the main dictionaries of the Royal Spanish Academy of the Language and other lexicographic repertoires of Spanish., En este trabajo se estudian los nombres de los diversos subtipos de gota (así como de las neuralgias derivadas de las mismas) compuestos en -agra que proliferaron en la conformación de la terminología médica de los siglos XVIII y XIX, especialmente. Para ello, se analizan con exhaustividad tanto la etimología (y las vías de penetración en el español) como la documentación de una veintena de términos. Además, se ofrece una síntesis del tratamiento que estas voces han experimentado en los principales repertorios lexicográficos académicos y extraacadémicos del español.

The objective of this paper is to propose alternative ways of measuring crime rates in urban settings, comparing the use of the presence of population with the traditional measurement, that is, the residential population. The analysis is carried out for three types of crimes: domestic violence, personal robbery and business robbery. To achieve this, a methodology of spatial analysis of the data of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (ZMG), Mexico is conducted. The results show that, for some types of crime, the presence of population can more accurately identify the population at risk, which can constitute a very useful public policy tool for crime prevention, since in addition to achieving a more precise estimation of the phenomenon, the areas that generate and attract crime can be identified., El objetivo de este trabajo es proponer formas alternativas de medición de las tasas de delincuencia en los entornos urbanos, comparando la utilización de la presencia de población y la medición tradicional, es decir, la población residencial. El análisis se realiza para tres tipos de delitos: violencia intrafamiliar, robo a persona y robo a negocio. Para ello, se sigue una metodología de análisis espacial de los datos de la Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara (ZMG) en México. En los resultados se comprueba que, para algunos tipos de delitos, la presencia de población puede identificar con mayor precisión a la población en riesgo, lo que puede constituir una herramienta de política pública muy útil de cara a la prevención del delito, pues además de lograr una estimación más precisa del fenómeno, se pueden identificar las zonas generadoras y atractoras del crimen.
