The subject of this article is the manuscript missal MS 2000, kept at the National and University Library in Ljubljana and known as the Slavinski Missal. According to the information in the colophon in the manuscript, it was purchased on October 25, 1481, for the needs of the filial church of St Daniel in Zalog, near Postojna. Analysis of the manuscript has shown that it is a missal of the Aquileian Rite, though many texts are taken from the Salzburg missal and other missals from the area north of the Alps. It was written in Augsburg, while the illuminated initials are the work of an illuminator from the workshop of Johannes Bämler. Franciscus Preining, signed beneath the body text, was probably the younger brother of the more famous Jörg Preining, but his role in the creation of the manuscript is unclear. A small collection of certificates of Marian sodalities from Austria and South Germany is preserved in the Archives of the Austrian Jesuit Province. These engraved documents were mainly used by wandering fellow guild members as passports. They complemented customary guild documents, as they testified to the reliable confessional character of their holder. Though the certificates preserved in Vienna were mostly issued and sealed only in the second half of the 18th century, research has shown that the copperplate matrices that were used are significantly older, partly going back to the third quarter of the 17th century. In an iconographic sense they are rich sources because they show city views and frequently interiors, altars, and liturgical furnishings that no longer exist. The certificates served not only their owners, but also as a pictorial representation of their place of origin and of the actual congregation.

Na naključno odprtih straneh publikacije, ki je v podnaslovu opredeljena kot razstavni katalog, so nekateri pogledi na knjige in s knjigami povezane predmete presenetljivi: v njih vidimo sestrske stvaritve s tistimi iz slovenskih javnih knjižnic in arhivov. Seveda ima vsaka knjižnica svoje dragocenosti in posebnosti, noben fond nima zrcalne podobe v drugem mestu, a marsikateri pri nas hranjeni rokopis, prvotisk in grafika so s svojo vsebino in likovno podobo potrditve stikov, ki so jih generacije iz dežel Kranjske, Štajerske in Koroške od približno 10. do 16. stoletja vzdrževale s švabskim Augsburgom in bližnjimi kraji. Ob delih iz naših zbirk je bilo mogoče ničkolikokrat zapisati, da gre za stvaritve iz južne Nemčije ali celo Augsburga, vendar so se take ugotovitve osredotočile na pozno 15. stoletje, ta katalog pa dokazuje, da je zlitost literarnega in likovnega med obema deželama potekala vsaj od ok. 1200 dalje. Da je knjižnica hranišče spominov, ki jih brez materializirane oblike ne bi imeli, je jasno, a dela je treba dobiti pred oči.

In the manuscript Curia Labacensis Urbis Metropolis Duc[atus] Carnioliae (Ljubljana, Seminary Library, rkp. 12), written around 1680, an anonymous author, later identified as Janez Gregor Dolnicar, put forward his vision for the rebuilding of Ljubljana's town hall. Although the manuscript itself has been mentioned in Slovene scientific literature several times, its similarity to Augsburg's town hall has not been noticed until now. Comparison of Dolnicar's Curia to Curia Augustanae reipublicae -a guide through Augsburg's town hall written by Mathäus Sendel and first published in 1657 -shows us that the resemblance is far from coincidental. In the biographic treaties of the religious reformer and the beginner of the Slovene standard language, Primoz Trubar (around 1508-1586), the question on keen relations with the middle-class families and their influences on Trubar’s life and professional path were neglected. Trubar has had contacts with the middle-class since his child- hood. His cousin Lukez Klinc (Cvekelj) was namely an offspring of the leading middle-class family in Visnja Gora, the closest town to Trubar’s home village. His cousin was a highly influential Ljubljana citizen and as such he significantly helped Trubar. Trubar was in Slovenia as well as in Germany active mostly in the urban or at least in the semi-urban milieu and was at least twice married to women of middle-class families. The influence the related middle-class families from Visnja Gora, Ljubljana, Kranj, Celje, Augsburg and Vienna had on this life and work was bigger than until now anticipated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
