Сродство је систем друштвене организације заснован на стварним или фиктивним породичним везама. Терминологија сродства је систем именовања сродничких односа. Терминологија сродства у словенским језицима припада најстаријем општесловенском, а њено језгро – индоевропском лексичком слоју. По старини свог настанка и дуготрајности развоја. терминологија сродства представља један од најважнијих сегмената основног лексичког фонда српског језика. У овоме прилогу анализирана је специфична група термина, карактеристичних само за српски језик – називи за далеке претке и потомке. Kinship is the system of social organization based on real or putative family ties. Kinship terminology is the system of terms used to represent the realms of genetic and social relations. Slavic kinship terminology belongs to the oldest lexical layers of Common Slavic. and the core of it is Indo-European. With regard to the antiquity of its origins and the length of its development. kinship terminology is one of the most important segments of the basic lexicon of the Serbian language. In this article the specific group of kinship terms is analysed — the terms for distant ancestors and descendants. typical of the Serbian language only.

Предмет овога рада су сроднички називи, тј. називи који се користе за крвне и афиналне сроднике у врањском крају у другој половини двадесетог века. Рад се заснива на етнографској грађи, која је прикупљена током истраживања сродства и институције наслеђивања у овој средини. Емпиријско истраживање је вршено у Врању и околним селима, у периоду од 1996. до 2003. године. Терминологија сродства представља комплексну проблематику. Њeнo изучавање пружа низ могућности за сагледавање различитих аспеката сродничког система, али и осталих сегмената друштва, о чему сведочи и овај прилог. Kinship terminology includes a variety of terms used to identify and address kinsmen. This paper deals with nominal kinship categories, used for blood or fictive kinsmen in the district of Vranje during the second half of the 20th century. In addition, some old-fashioned, long-used kinship terms were also noted down. In addition to the similarities with the kinship terminology used among Serbs in general, the terminology used in the area of Vranje has a couple of specifics of its own. These specifics originated in the particular cultural and social environment of Vranje. The appellations of (paternal) uncle, wife of father's brother, uncle, father-in-law and mother-in-law are just a few of the specific terms used in the area examined. A kinship relation as well as the maintenance of the bond is based on emotional attachment and life-interest similarities. This is illustrated in the usage of personal names in direct communications instead of kinship terms. On the other hand, some archaic kin appellations are still in use which indicates that the formation of the new terms does not imply the disappearance of the old ones. The concurrent usage of the old and new terms characterizes the kinship terminology, where changes act in a less visible manner. In sum, kinship terminology is a complex subject that offers a number of possibilities for understanding various aspects of the kinship system and segments of a given society.
