Background: Complications of liver cirrhosis (LC), such as thrombocytopenia and portal vein thrombosis (PVT), have similar pathophysiology. However, the association between PVT and platelet count in LC patients is contradictory. Aim: To assess factors affecting the platelet count in patients with LC and PVT. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective case-control study. The cases were 114 patients with LC of various etiologies and newly diagnosed PVT unrelated to invasive hepatocellular carcinoma. From the database of LC patients without PVT, 228 controls were randomly selected with stratification by gender, age and etiology of cirrhosis. The patients from both groups were divided into subgroups with thrombocytopenia ( 150 × 109/L) and without thrombocytopenia (≥ 150 × 109/L). We analyzed the LC etiology, portal hypertension severity (ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, gastroesophageal varices and associated bleedings, the spleen length, and portal vein diameter), laboratory parameters (white blood cell counts, neutrophils, lymphocytes, hemoglobin levels, total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, fibrinogen, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and prothrombin); also, the rates of newly diagnosed malignant tumors was assessed. The statistical analysis included calculation of odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), logistic regression models with assessment of the model accuracy, and the area under the ROC curve (AUC). Results: There were no differences in the severity of thrombocytopenia between the case and control groups: thrombocytopenia was severe in 15.8% (18 patients) vs 13.6% (31 patients, p = 0.586); moderate, in 41.2% (47 patients) vs 46.1% (105 patients, p = 0.398) and mild, in 31.6% (36 patients) vs 24.5% (56 patients, p = 0.168). The proportion of the patients without thrombocytopenia was 11.4% (13 patients) in the case group and 15.8% (36 patients) in the control group, with the between-group difference being non-significant (p = 0.276). In the subgroups of patients without thrombocytopenia (both in the cases and in the controls), the proportion alcoholic etiology of LC, white blood cells counts, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and fibrinogen concentrations were significantly higher (p 0.05) than in those with thrombocytopenia. The model based on the outcome "absence of thrombocytopenia" included white blood cells counts, hemoglobin and albumin levels, the presence of newly diagnosed malignant tumors in the case group (model accuracy 90.4%, AUC 0.873), and neutrophil counts and spleen length in the control group (model accuracy 86.4%, AUC 0.855). In the patients with PVT and platelet counts of ≥ 150 × 109/L, the OR for all newly diagnosed malignant tumors was 26.3 (95% CI 7.37–93.97, р 0.0001), for newly diagnosed hepatocellular carcinoma without portal vein invasion 17.42 (95% CI 4.84–62.65, р 0.0001). Conclusion: In LC patients, the prevalence and severity of thrombocytopenia are not different depending on the PVT presence or absence. The absence of thrombocytopenia in PVT patients is associated with a higher risk of malignant tumors identification, primarily that of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective. On the prehepatic portal hypertension pattern, created by partial ligature of venae portae in rats, to estimate the impact of partial hepatic deportalization on its tissue. Materials and methods. The investigation was conducted on 35 male rats of a Wistar line, aged 4–6 weeks. In 15 laboratory animals the partial ligature of vena porta with formation of stenosis was conducted, and in 15 –false ligature, while the control group consisted of 5 intact laboratory animals. Results. There were revealed certain connections between conduction of partial ligature of vena porta and critical (lethal) lowering of portohepatic perfusion. The model of prehepatic portal hypertension, using partial ligature of vena porta, leading to partial lowering of portohepatic perfusion with development of cavernous transformation of vena porta and dystrophic changes in hepatocytes with further fibrous changes in hepatic parenchyma, was applied. Conclusion. The portal vein narrowing grade in range 52 – 59% constitutes the optimal one for the prehepatic portal hypertension formation with development of zonal adipose parenchymatous hepatic dystrophy and the balloon degeneration of hepatocytes with further development of fibroses in rats of a Wistar line aged 4 – 6 weeks.

Purpose. To determine the indicators of portal hemodynamics in laboratory rats of different genders and ages based on the features of ultrasound scanning of the portal vein. Materials and methods. The study was conducted on 60 mongrel rats of both sexes weighing 120-270 g. The first group included 20 rats aged 1 month, the second – 20 rats aged 6-12 months and the third – 20 rats aged more than 18-24 months. The study of qualitative and quantitative indicators of portal hemodynamics was performed using ultrasound scanners with zoletil-xylazine anesthesia. Statistical analysis was performed using the application package Statistica 13.0 (StatSoft, USA). Results. The spectrum of blood flow in the portal vein of rats was unidirectional (monophasic), located above or below the isoline, with oscillations of the curve having a relationship with respiration. A clear dependence of blood flow fluctuations in the portal vein on cardiac activity has not been established. The diameter (by 15.4%, R= 0.64), the cross-sectional area (by 40%, R=0.68) and the maximum linear velocity of blood flow (by 1.2%, R=-0.09) in the portal vein increased with an increase in the age of the animals. The minimum linear velocity of blood flow decreased (by 32.2%, R =-0.05), which indicated an increase in the systolic-diastolic coefficient (an increase in the pulsativity of the flow). The indicator of the volumetric blood flow rate in the portal vein increased by 11.1% (R=0.06), and in relation to body weight decreased in elderly animals (by 11.5%, R=-0.05). Conclusion. A moderate increase in volumetric blood flow in the portal vein (by 11.1%) with a pronounced increase in body weight (by 34.9%) was found with an increase in the age of animals. The perspective of further research is to study the functional reserve of the liver in the age aspect.

Pylephlebitis is a rare and potentially lethal complication of acute appendicitis. It leads to the development of liver abscesses and sepsis. Usually, this complication is the result of late diagnosis. Only rare cases of successful treatment of pylephlebitis in the context of acute appendicitis are published in special literature.The aim of the demonstration is to analyze of the diagnosis and medical tactic mistakes as a case of pylephlebitis in a patient with acute appendicitis; show the possibilities of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment, which made it possible to achieve a success.The case of successful treatment patient with pylephlebitis was shown in the article. Late diagnosis of acute appendicitis was associated with the patient’s refusal and with some diagnostic and tactic mistakes that were analyzed. The case presented by jaundice, liver failure and fever. Thrombosis of portal vein diagnosed by U/S, CT scan with intravenous contrast on day 11 of the illness. Appendectomy was performed. Intensive care with extracorporeal therapy, antibacterial and anticoagulant therapy were also provided. Septic thrombosis of portal vein was complicated by an abscess of the right lobe of the liver and sepsis. The case of successful treatment of patient with septic thrombosis of portal vein and superior mesenteric vein complicated by liver abscess and sepsis is considered in the article. Intensive therapy, extracorporeal detoxification and abdominal abscess drainage under the U/S control have resulted in a fully repatency of portal vein that was confirmed by CT scan data.

Objectives to study the variability of the level of portal vein formation in relation to the spinal column according to computed tomography data. Material and methods. The study evaluated the results of 100 multispiral (multislice) computed tomography (MSCT) scans of the abdominal organs done in the period of 2018-2019 and collected in the archive of the Clinics of the Samara State Medical University. For mathematical modeling and the creation of three-dimensional models of the vascular bed, we used the plug-ins in the software "Luch" and "Avtoplan" that made it possible to obtain the three-dimensional models based on MSCT data. The level of portal vein formation relative to the spinal column was studied. Results. The level of portal portal vein formation relative to the spinal column varied from the lower edge of the twelfth thoracic vertebra (ThXII) to the upper edge of the second lumbar vertebra (LII). Most often, the portal vein was formed at the level of the middle of the first thoracic vertebra body (LI). This level of portal vein formation was detected in 23% of cases. In 64% of cases, the portal vein was formed at the level of the right edge of the vertebra.

Вступление. Единственным радикальным методом лечения перихилярной холангиокарциномы является хирургический, позволяющий улучшить отдаленные результаты и показатели выживаемости пациентов. Особую сложность представляют ситуации с инвазией опухоли в воротную вену. Цель. Изучение результатов хирургического лечения пациентов по поводу перихилярной холангиокарциномы с инвазией воротную в вену (ВВ). Материалы и методы. С 2003 по 2017 г. в клинике обширная и расширенная резекция печени по поводу перихилярной холангиокарциномы произведена 153 больным. Результаты. Для оценки характера поражения билиарного дерева использовали анатомическую классификацию перихилярной холангиокарциномы Bismuth-Corlette. У 66 (43%) больных резекция печени дополнена резекция ВВ с ее последующей реконструкцией. Показатели 1, 3- и 5-летней выживаемости после резекции ВВ составили соответственно 81,8, 40,9 и 31,8%. Выводы. Агрессивная тактика хирургического лечения перихилярной холангиокарциномы обеспечивает максимальную радикальность, позволяет увеличить резектабельность при инвазии опухоли в ВВ с приемлемой летальностью и отдаленными показателями выживаемости.

General histological methods of studies of characteristics of different layers of portal vein in normal individuals and during portal hypertension syndrome in children and adults. Study of histo-topography of veins in age-respect in normal and during portal hypertension does not only shows general features but also age-related and patho-morphological changes in different layers of its wall. During portal hypertension, increase or decrease in the diameter of the muscular and adventitious layers is not uniform all through the different parts of the portal vein in the very same individual.

Purpose: To determine the number of biochemical parameters in rats’ serum derived from the portal vein and the inferior vena cava after consuming edible fats with different fatty acid composition. Methods: White laboratory rats have been receiving in addition to standard vivarium diet 15% of the following edible fats for the 64 days: ordinary sunflower (high- linolenic), high oleic sunflower oil, butter, palm oil and coconut oil. At the end of this period, the rats’ blood was taken under thiopental anesthesia from the portal vein and the inferior vena cava. Determination of elastase activity, alanine aminotransferase, urease, lysozyme, catalase, MDA content were conducted in the obtained serum and the degree of dysbiosis was calculated. Results. The study showed that the activity of urease in serum of blood from the portal vein and the inferior vena cava was increased after consumption of all fats, except high-oleic sunflower oil. The activity of lysozyme, on the contrast, was decreased after feeding rats with butter, palm oil and coconut oil. The decrease of the activity of urease and elastase and an increase in the level of MDA and activity of alanine aminotransferase found in the serum of blood sample from the inferior vena cava, which indicated the involvement of the liver in that processes. The conclusion. High-fat diets, except diet reach in high oleic sunflower oil, increased the degree of dysbiosis in rat’s blood. The greatest increase was observed after the consumption of palm oil. The performed work allowed us to recommend the introduction of high oleic sunflower oil into a diet and reduction of a consumption of products containing palm oil to a minimum amount in order to prevent dysbiosis.

Objective: To analyze the initial data on future liver remnant volume and its function evaluated by 99m Tc-Bromesida hepatobiliary scintigraphy in children with liver tumors., Material and Methods: Extended liver resections were performed in 58 patients aged 2 months - 208 months (median 26 months) for various neoplasms. Before hepatectomy, all children underwent contrast-enhanced CT with volumetry and hepatobiliary scintigraphy with 99m Tc-Bromezida and subsequent quantitative assessment of its accumulation in the future liver remnant. All consecutive patients eligible for extended liver resection were retrospectively analyzed., Results: The analysis included patients who underwent extended liver resection between June 2017 and March 2021. Among 91 liver resections, 58 (64%) procedures were extended hepatectomies including 2 ALPPS procedures. Median volume of future liver remnant was 44.5% (16.5-91.4), median future liver remnant function - 10.14%/min/m 2 (1.8-30). Four patients with adequate liver function had insufficient volume of future liver remnant. Insufficient future liver remnant volume and its appropriate function were observed in 2 patients. Not life-threatening post-resection liver failure developed in 2 patients., Conclusion: Evaluation of future liver remnant function is the most sensitive method to predict post-hepatectomy liver failure in children. The cut off value of future liver remnant volume in children is below 25% and probably below 16.5%. Further data collection and research are warranted to determine significant values. These data will contribute to define the new indications for two-staged hepatectomies in children.

Objective: To study the features of surgical anatomy of intrahepatic segments of right portal vein., Material and Methods: The results of 260 histological examinations including sectional (n=60) and clinical (n=200) surveys were analyzed. Anatomical analysis implied assessment of organometric characteristics including liver weight, length, width and thickness of right and left lobes, division angles of portal vein, the number of branches, length and diameter of the vessels. Clinical examination was based on analysis of splenoportograms and X-ray direct portal venograms. Patients were divided into three groups according to their body type (dolichomorphic, mesomorphic, brachymorphic)., Results: Anatomical and clinical surveys confirmed the differences in metric characteristics of portal vascular system depending on the body type. There was medial angulation of the median fissure under 70-85º (78.0±3.4°) in dolichomorphic and mesomorphic patients. Right angle between the median fissure and lower liver surface was observed in brachymorphic subjects. Portal vein division into the branches of the first order to the right of the median fissure was found in 49 cases. Median or left-sided division was noted in other cases. In most cases (n=219), right portal vein dichotomously divided into the right paramedian and right lateral branches. Portal trifurcation was detected in 2.3% of cases, medial translocation of the right paramedian branch - in 1.1% of cases., Conclusion: Right liver lobe surgery may be associated with certain technical difficulties due to variable anatomy of the right portal vein. Anatomical and atypical liver resections should be preceded by preoperative identification of individual anatomical variations of the main liver vessels. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography is optimal method for this purpose.

Annular pancreas is a rare condition followed by circumferential involvement of another anatomical structure. In this case, involvement of the pancreas is most frequent type of malformation while portal vein is less common variant. Issues of clinical picture, diagnosis and surgical treatment are reviewed in the article.

The results of preoperative embolization of portal vein (EPV) in 90 patients, operated on for biliary hepatic tumors, were analyzed. In 47 patients Klatskin tumor was revealed, in 29--peripheral cholangiocarcinoma, in 14--tumor of a gallbladder. In all the patients a radical major hepatic resection was planned, a checking hepatic volume (CHHV) did not exceed 40% of a noninvolved parenchyma. The EPV volume have corresponded generally to the planned resection volume. After performance of EPV a pressure in a portal vein have risen by 75%, and later it have had lowered step by step during 24 h. The CHHV index have raised from (354 +/- 72) up to (462 +/- 118) cm3, or from (33 +/- 7) up to (45 +/- 11)%, permitting to perform radical hepatic resection in 79 (87.8%) patients. Thus, application of EPV in patients, suffering biliary hepatic tumors, have permitted to increase the CHHV index after radical resection, and to raise resectability of such tumors.

In 14 patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertention autologous mesenclyme multipotential stem cells (AMMSC) transplanation was performed in portal vein (I group, n=7) and common trunk of the hepatic artery (II group, n=6). Duration of pathological processes since diagnosis is 1-8 years (3,7±2,4 years). The initial severity was evaluated by a set of child-Pugh score: Class A - 6 (42,9%), Class B - 8 (57,1%). Cell cultures indentication and characteristics consistent with International Society of cell technology guidanes (ISCT) since 2006.   The treatment results and patients survival were determined in period 2 month - 5 years according Kaplan-Meir survival curve analysis. Morphology of liver bioptats also was performed.   It was shown that AMMSC transplantation generally positivly affects on the morpho-functional dynamics and basic hepatic syndromes. Aterial perivascular zone is the most optimal for transplantation in terms of migration, engraftment and differentiation of cells in comparison with portal field, as evidenced by the transition of some patients from class B to class A by child-Pugh score.

Comparative investigation of hepatic blood flow in patients, suffering hepatic cirrhosis in compensated and decompensated stage, was performed. Characteristic peculiarities of arterial and portal hepatic blood flow were revealed, what has important diagnostic significance and must be taken in account while choosing methods of surgical and miniinvasive treatment of patients.

The results of transjugular hepatic biopsy (TJHB) were analyzed in 32 patients, in whom the performance of hepatic radical resection was planned for the focal hepatic diseases. The biopsy procedures have had succeeded in 100% of observations. The severe complications were absent. The specimen length have constituted 12 mm at average, fragmentation was noted in 32% of observations. All the specimen were recognized as affordable for histological studying. In 24 patients in terms of 2-4 weeks after biopsy the embolization of lobar branches of portal vein was performed with the objective to enhance the assumed residual hepatic volume. In all the patients in terms of 2-8 weeks the spacious radical hepatic resection was succeeded. The data obtained witness that application of TJHB is expedient in the patients, who are prepared for spacious radical hepatic resection, for estimation of the organ parenchyma state and prognostication of postoperative hepatic insufficiency.

The results of preoperative transcutaneous transhepatic embolization of portal vein (PTTEPV) were analyzed in 86 patients, suffering malignant hepatic tumors. Depending on a planned hepatic resection (HR) volume there was conducted embolization of a right lobar portal vein (in 45 patients), right vein with a vein of C(IV) segment (in 32), lobar portal vein with anterior right vein (in 9). In 3-4 weeks after PTTEPV there was noted the enhancement of ratio of a planned residual hepatic volume/total hepatic volume from 16.3 to 27.5%, permitting to perform HR successfully in these patients. In 4 (4.7%) patients HR was not performed because of progressing of the tumor development or a total thrombosis of portal vein. The data obtained witness, that PTTEPV constitute an effective method of the patients preparation for HR while presence of a planned small residual hepatic volume.

129 patients with abdominal sepsis were divided in two groups. Patients of the 1st group (n=68) were treated according to the accepted standard. Patients of the 2nd group received the same treatment, but after germ translocation to the abdominal cavity and blood, immunoglobulin blood titer detection, drugs were administered through the cannulated umbilical vein straight to the portal system. Blood samples from ulnar and portal veins and microbiological samples from gut lumen showed similar results in patients with sepsis, proving the phenomenon of bacterial translocation. Histological analysis of liver biopsy demonstrated affection of both hepatocites and reticuloendothelial system of the liver by sepsis. The use of intraportal drug administration decreased mortality from 27.9% (1st group) to 16.3% (2nd group).

The report deals with venous port implantion into the portal vein to conduct both single and continuous courses of regional chemotherapy without recourse to repeat puncture and catheterization of the vein to avoid hemorrhagic complications and arterioportal fistula. Application of repeat courses of intraportal chemotherapy might make use of ultrasound and X-ray equipment to monitor the catheter position in portal vein lumen as well as unauthorized drug consumption unnecessary. Catheterization of the portal vein across the adjacent edge of the liver seals the punctured hole reliably with a U-shaped suture which prevents bleeding into the abdomen and secures the catheter in place.

Thrombosis of the portal vein is relatively rare disease which presents some difficulties to diagnose in patients with it. It is discussed in the article the case of thrombosis of the portal vein diagnosed after the patient's death.

In the course of experiments in was found out that golden hamsters having the bilious duct operationally blocked display receptivity to the infection with the non-excysted Opisthorchis felineus metacercariae passed to the stomach. Excysted metacercariae injected to the system of the portal vein settle down in the bilious pathways of the liver and develop there up to the adult stage. In vitro, the metacercariae survive in the blood serum of the intact golden hamsters during one day. Based on the experiments, it is hypothesized that the early stage of O. felineus infection in the bilious duct of definitive hosts is performed by means of hematogenic migration of metacercariae through the portal veins system from the mucous layer of the alimentary tract of the host.

Modern technologies used at St. Petersburg Central Research Institute of Roentgenology and Radiotherapy of Russia's Ministry of Health in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant and benign liver cancers are surveyed in the paper. Apart from routine examinations, like ultrasound scanning, computer tomography, MRT, angiography, the below new technologies were widely used: multi-stratum spiral computer tomography, special MRT techniques and positron-emission tomography. The new methods enabled us to diagnose the tumor and its extension, to choose an optimal intervention technique, to make an objective assessment of the results and to correct the treatment strategy. Preoperative embolization of the portal-vein branches in the damaged hepatic lobe and postoperative adjuvant local chemotherapy of the hepatic artery and portal vein belong to the new combined surgical treatment scheme. The method of combined arterial-portal chemoembolization, used in unresectable malignant hepatic pathologies, extends the survival of patients by 3-5 times. Ferromagnetic embolization presupposes the administration of ferromagnetic, through the arterial bed or direct puncture, into the tumor with a subsequent SHF-current treatment which brings about a selective tumor hyperthermia without heating the normal hepatic parenchyma. Arterial embolization combined with local injection sclerotherapy in hemangiomas of the liver provides for a complete regeneration of benign tumors and can be regarded as a low-trauma alternative to liver resection. The use of new methods of diagnosis and treatment expands the possibilities of surgical care for patients with hepatic neoplasms and essentially improves the treatment results.

Selective detoxication of the blood from the portal vein was carried out in 31 patients with peritonitis complicated by multiple organ dysfunction including toxic hepatopathy. Selective extracorporeal detoxication of the blood from the portal vein possesses notable regional hemodynamic advantages in comparison with other variants of vascular approaches and essentially improves the transhepatic bloodflow. The authors emphasize that bifiltration cascade exchange portoplasmapheresis is a method of choice in severe toxic hepatopathy in patients with peritonitis. They recommend alternating bifiltration cascade exchange portoplasmapheresis with portohemofiltration in patients with toxic hepatonephropathy.

The literary data on the poorly investigated syndrome of cavernoma of the portal vein resulting to portal hypertension is represented. Inherent and acquired forms have described. The mechanisms of cavernoma development, clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods have represented. The problems of the differential diagnostics and treatment have considered in detail.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the results of combined (hepatic artery and portal vein) oily chemoembolization (OCE) in patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases. Courses of combined OCE were given to 45 patients (1990-2000). For arterial OCE (n = 150), 40-100 mg doxorubicin mixed with 10-15 ml iodized oil and gelatin sponge was used. OCE of the portal vein (n = 118) included injection of doxorubicin-in-oil without sponge. Response to treatment (partial tumor decrease or stabilization) was reported in 80%. Serious complications occurred in 3 patients (7%) but there was no mortality. The mean and median survival rates for those patients who died were 20.2 and 17 months, respectively. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates were 83, 40 and 14%, respectively. These results were significantly better than those for arterial OCE alone or hepatic arterial infusion. Combined (arterial and portal vein) OCE with doxorubicin appears the most effective locoregional treatment for unresectable colorectal liver metastases.

Preoperative embolization of the right portal vein and following hepatic resection were performed in seven patients with primary and secondary liver malignancies. The indication for the procedure was a small amount (30%) of the future remnant liver (FRL). The ultrasound-guided percutaneous transhepatic puncture of the portal vein and its embolization with gelatin sponge or silicon polymer was used. No complications of the procedure were noted. In 19-56 (mean 33) days computed or magnetic resonance tomography showed a significantly increased FRL volume (mean 40%). Right or extended right hepatectomy was performed in 5 and 2 patients respectively without lethal outcomes. A conclusion is made that the preoperative portal vein embolization is a safe and technically simple procedure that reduces the risk of postoperative hepatic failure after major liver resection.

Results of experimental-morphological study of influence of unilobar portal embolization by biologic occlusive material RABROM on the liver of 6 laboratory animals are presented. It is shown that portal venous embolization leads to focal necrosis of parenchyma of embolized hepatic lobe, it atrophy and formation of portal cirrhosis. In non-embolized hepatic lobe the distinct signs of increased regeneration and hypertrophy of hepatocytes were revealed. RABROM didn't lead to damage and inflammatory changes of vascular wall that testifies to it biologic inertia. It is recommended to use the method of portal venous embolization for preparation of patients with low functional hepatic reserve for extensive resections.

An experience with treatment of 90 patients with primary (42) and metastatic (48) carcinomas of the liver who were treated by ligation of the hepatic artery (in 24 patients), embolisation of the hepatic artery (in 21 patients) in combination with intraarterial and intraportal chemotherapy or without it is analyzed. It has been shown that these methods are more effective in metastatic carcinoma of the liver, longer terms of life of the patients were obtained when dearterialization of the liver was combined with chemotherapy.

An experience with treatment of 549 patients (not older than 87 years of age) with deep burns of 85% of the body surface has shown high efficiency of the regional (selective) intraportal (through the recanalized umbilical vein) infusion therapy. It allows elimination of hepatic hypoxia, intoxication, microbial aggression etc. This method leads to an improvement of results of the treatment and recovery of critical patients who were earlier thought to be doomed.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) induced a short increase followed by a long-lasting decrease in the functional activity of the portal vein in rats. A concentration-dependent response to increasing doses of the hormone was revealed. The mechanism of the PTH action on the vessel is discussed.

Tentative results of consecutive arterial and portal chemoembolizations in 4 patients with advanced hepatoma are presented. Hepatic artery occlusion was achieved by administration of 20-60 mg adriablastin in 6-12 ml iodized oil and minced gelatin sponge. Said adriablastin-in-oil alone was used for transhepatic catheterisation and chemoembolization of portal vein 2-4 weeks later. The patients received a total of 10 courses of combined therapy, without any complication development. All the patients have been alive for 18 months and two of them have been in remission. The preliminary results of application of the new modification of transcatheter management of primary hepatoma are encouraging and make the case for undertaking prospective randomized clinical trials.

Experiments with male California rabbits were carried out different intervals of acute alcohol intoxication induced by intragastric administration of 40% ethanol solution in a dose of 10 ml/kg to examine daily changes of concentration of iron, alpha-tocopherol and lipid peroxidation products in the blood plasma from vena portal and vena hepatis. Acute alcohol intoxication was demonstrated to be accompanied by inversion in temporal organization of lipid peroxidation products, sideremia and alpha-tocopherol levels in the blood of vena hepatis. The invariability of the circadian rhythms of iron, alpha-tocopherol and lipid peroxidation products levels in vena portal blood a considered to prove participation of the liver in regulation of iron metabolism temporal organization in California rabbits with acute alcohol intoxication.
