The relevance of the problem of obesity is due to the progressive increase in morbidity worldwide and the high risk of developing pathological conditions associated with overweight. The development of cardiovascular diseases, lipid metabolism disorders, and type 2 diabetes mellitus is of the greatest importance. Among the various types of treatment for morbid obesity, bariatric surgery occupies a leading position and acquires a special role in the correction of type 2 diabetes mellitus associated with excess body weight due to its greatest metabolic efficiency. A clinical case of surgical treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus associated with obesity in a middle-aged woman with unsatisfactory glycemic control on insulin therapy is presented. Gastric bypass was performed. The early postoperative period is smooth. Four years later, the body mass index was 24.9 kg/m2, the target levels of glycemia and glycated hemoglobin were achieved in the complete absence of insulin therapy.

Introduction Obesity is one of the major health problems of today’s population and is defined as a body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2. It is known that obesity may cause many complications such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep, apnoea, and several cancers. The only effective treatment of obesity can be pharmacological or surgical, especially when a years-long attempt to change habits has had no effects. Aim of the study This review aims to present the current state of knowledge about non-pharmacological and pharmacological obesity treatment methods. Materials and methods The paper was created based on the Pubmed database. The literature was reviewed using the keywords: ”obesity”, ”obesity treatment”, “ obesity lifestyle changes”, “obesity medications” and ”obesity surgery”. The current state of knowledge The treatment of obesity requires a multimodal approach to treatment, including the addition of anti-obesity medications or bariatric surgery, or both, to assist people in reaching and sustaining sufficient weight loss to meet treatment goals. The 3 principal components of a comprehensive lifestyle intervention are diet, physical activity, and behavioral therapy. Among available anti-obesity medications include orlistat, phentermine, topiramate, naltrexone, bupropion, liraglutide, and semaglutide. Summary The key challenge in the treatment of obesity is to maintain the effects obtained with multimodal therapy. Without proper motivation of patients and changes in eating and behavioral habits, it is impossible to achieve optimal results, therefore, in addition to medical interventions, more and more attention should be paid to psychological interventions.

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as "abnormal or excessive accumulation of adipose tissue that poses a health risk". It results from the interdependencies between genetic, cultural, and socio-economic factors. The choice of therapy in the treatment of overweight and obesity depends on body mass index (BMI), individual predispositions, comorbidities and weight history. Among the treatment methods stand out, dietary modification, lifestyle changes, pharmacotherapy, and bariatric surgery. Each of these treatments can be used individually or as a combination treatment using knowledge of physiology. The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of overweight and obesity treatment using pharmacotherapy and lifestyle modification. Material and Methods: The research material was collected by searching databases with scientific articles about obesity, pharmacotherapy in obesity, the impact of lifestyle modifications, behavioral behavior, and physical activity on the reduction of body fat. The scientific database Pubmed and Web of Science were used. Research articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses were included. Summary Obesity is an epidemic of the 21st century, bringing with it several negative consequences. Prevention of the disease, quick diagnosis, and implementation of appropriate treatment to reduce unnecessary fat and excess weight are extremely important. Lifestyle change including dietary modification, physical activity and pharmacotherapy are promising treatments for overweight and obesity.

Introduction: Obesity and overweight are common diseases affecting both children and adults. They cause a number of health consequences, both physical and mental. The diseases underlying obesity include hypertension, type II diabetes and selected cancers. The etiology is multifactorial, resulting from environmental, behavioral and genetic factors. Aim of the study: The aim of our study is to summarize the therapeutic options available to overweight and obese people. We paid special attention to the available pharmacology and surgical treatment. We compared these methods in terms of effectiveness, possible complications and side effects. Materials and methods: The literature available in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases was reviewed, using the following keywords: "obesity treatment", "obesity pharmacotherapy", "bariatric surgery". Conclusions: There are many treatment options for people who have not improved with diet and increased physical activity alone. The availability of both pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery enables effective treatment of obesity and overweight tailored to the needs of patients.

Background: Obesity is a chronic disease, which along with its complications, poses a huge threat to both our health as individuals and our healthcare as a community. Objective: The aim of this work is to review efficacy and safety of Tirzepatide, a novel dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist in the treatment of obesity Method: A literature review was conducted on databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar using terms “obesity”, “obesity treatment”, “glucagon-like peptide 1”, “Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide”, “Tirzepatide” as keywords. The review was performed in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Results: Administration of tirzepatide once weekly provides a substantial and sustained reduction in bodyweight with little side effects. Conclusions: Clinical trials showed both high efficacy and safety of Tirzepatide in management of obesity. Due to its novel, broadened mechanism of action it seems to be the most effective drug for reducing bodyweight available on the market. Tirzepatide could be our answer to tackling the problem of world-wide obesity epidemic.

Aim of the present study was to evaluate the long-term effects of two obesity treatment modalities: lifestyle intervention coupled with surgery and lifestyle intervention coupled with low-energy diet. Material-Methods: A total of 32 morbidly obese women participated in the study. A group of them (n=15) underwent vertical banded gastroplasty and they were assigned to the lifestyle plus surgery group (LS-surgery). The rest of them (n=17) were assigned to the lifestyle plus low-energy-diet group (LS-diet). Results: The LS-surgery group lost significantly more weight after 12 months than the LS-diet group (46.4±3.0 kg vs. 18.5±3.0 kg, P<0.001) and this difference remained significant till the 36-month follow- up assessment. Conclusions: Even though the combination of intensive lifestyle intervention along with low-energy-diet resulted in weight loss and maintenance, this effect was less pronounced than the one achieved through the combination of lifestyle modification and surgery.
