Amidst the current shift towards sustainable development and a low-carbon economy, it is important to assess the preparedness of mining companies for implementing large-scale technology modernization programs. The extent of modernization and the level of the company’s involvement are the factors determining the nature of modernization transformations. Major modernization of production makes it possible to address the challenges of improving corporate social and environmental responsibility, including industrial safety issues in mining operations. When implementing technology modernization programs, it is important to focus on environmentally-oriented objectives while improving operational efficiency. The mining industry, characterized by unique technological solutions, often necessitates unconventional modernization measures, entailing substantial investments in research and development (R & D). In Arctic deposit development, a higher level of technological advancement, including digital technologies and automated control systems, is imperative. Digital solutions, automation, and robotization should be integrated into modernization programs in the mining sector. Our research methodology is based on the summary and synthesis of theoretical and methodological approaches to assessing the effectiveness of modernization measures and developing a typology of technology modernization models. This study aims to refine conceptual approaches to the typology of organizational and economic models of technology modernization and to assess the effectiveness of modernization programs in the context of mining in the Arctic. The article delineates the fundamental principles of technology modernization and substantiates the effects arising from modernization measures, using mining companies functioning in the Arctic economic zone as an illustrative case study. The article proposes a typology of technology modernization models based on criteria developed by the authors, among which are key technology, management effects, and key approaches to efficiency assessment. It is emphasized that advanced technology modernization models should holistically reflect both economic and socio-ecological effects.

The aim of the paper was to analyze risky behaviors in the mining industry on the example of the indicator analysis of the statistics on accidents at work. Selected criteria of generic analysis (structure index – causes of accidents) and indicator analysis (intensity index – frequency indicator of accidents) were used in the research. The source of data for the analysis of accident rate were the publications of the Statistics Poland entitled “Accidents at work” in Poland for 2010-2021. The study aimed at human causes, which included the following five groups: lack or improper handling of a material factor by the employee, failure to use protective equipment by the employee, improper willful behavior of the employee, improper mental and physical state of the employee, improper behavior of the employee. For the analysis of risky behaviors, the proposition of the frequency indicator of accidents at work was used in the form of the probability indicator of accidents caused by risky behaviors per 1,000 working people. Based on the indicator analysis of risky behaviors, a comparative analysis of statistics on accidents at work in the period 2010-2021 according to the criterion of human causes was developed for Poland and mining. The research is based on the data of the Statistics Poland (GUS), but can be extended with other data, e.g. industry data according to the State Mining Authority (WUG). The results of the research can be used for a comparative analysis of the statistics on accidents at work in relation to other sectors and sections of economic activity of the NACE (PKD). The publication contains the original results of the indicator analysis of the statistics on accidents at work according to the criterion of human causes in the mining industry, and they can be addressed to persons managing of mining plants and managers of mining supervision authorities.

The development of the Arctic zone as a strategic resource base and its rational use aimed at the economic growth acceleration is a key interest of the Russian Federation in this region. The occupational environment in mining industry is associated with unique working conditions. Underground mining makes workers’ health protection the most significant task. The aim of this study was to perform hygienic assessment of working conditions, occupational incidence and occupational health risks for workers employed in mining industry in the Arctic zone of the Norilsk industrial area. Occupational health risks were assessed using indicators outlined in the Guide R 2.2.2006-05 The Guide on Hygienic Assessment of Factors Related to Working Environment and Work Process. Exposure to occupational noise and considerable work hardness are priority factors in the analyzed industry that cause occupational diseases. Occupational diseases among workers employed in mining industry in the Norilsk industrial area belonged to six nosologies. Vibration disease, stages 1 and 2, makes the greatest contribution to the overall structure of occupational incidence since it accounts for 68.6 % in it. The second place belongs to two-sided sensorineural hearing loss, stages 1 and 2, 13.5 %. Radiculopathy occupies the third rank place accounting for 10.9 %. Unacceptable occupational health risks were identified at 76.8 % of workplaces. A high share of workplaces with unacceptable occupational health risks leads to high occupational incidence among mining workers in the Norilsk industrial area, its levels being higher than the national average.

The purpose of the work is to assess the consequences of the industrial development of the territories of traditional nature management of the indigenous peoples of the North. In order to achieve the goal, the investment projects planned on the territory of the Arctic and considered in the ethnological expertise of the Yakutia are analyzed. The structure of the Yakutia economy is dominated by the mining industry. The Arctic and northern territories of Yakutia are characterized by high vulnerability to technogenic impacts. In 2012–2021, 39 investment business projects were considered in the republic’s ethnological expertise, including 12 ones in the Arctic and northern regions. In order to improve the health and quality of life of indigenous peoples in the areas of industrial development, it is necessary to conclude a trilateral Co-operation Agreement between the project customer, state authorities and authorized representatives of indigenous peoples. In order to monitor the quality of life of indigenous peoples, it is necessary to adopt the Program of ethno-ecological monitoring in the territories of traditional nature management. The study was carried out using historical-geographical, analytical, synthetic, statistical methods. The results of the work can be applied by specialists of state structures, scientists, students.

The review analyzes a range and prevalence of health disorders in workers employed at mining enterprises in the Arctic and exposed to heterogeneous occupational factors. We revealed that working processes typical for basic occupations in under-ground mining involved exposure to a set of heterogeneous harmful and (or) hazardous occupational factors such as intense occupational noise; elevated vibration; aerosols with predominantly fibrogenic effects, dusts and chemicals; high hardness and intensity typical for physical work; non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. It was shown that diseases of the ear and mastoid, vibration syndrome, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory diseases and diseases of the nervous system prevailed both in the structure of general morbidity and in occupational one typical for miners. To create proper working conditions and to minimize effects of harmful and hazardous occupational factors as well as occupational health risks, it is advisable to perform comprehensive hygienic assessment of introduced equipment, machinery and mechanisms; to establish levels and doses of occupational factors. Engineering and technical, technological, medical and preventive and treatment and health-improving activities should be developed on this basis with special emphasis on such occupational groups as drift miners, drill-operators, blasters, timbermen, operators of cargo handling machinery, drilling unit operators, miners in mining outputs and faces, repairmen, and electric gas welders. It seems extremely vital to apply risk assessment methodology to assess occupational health risks for workers employed in mining operations in the Norilsk industrial region considering climatic features of the Arctic. This assessment is important for substantiating relevant activities aimed at managing such risks and protecting workers’ health.

Factors affecting the state of enterprises in the mining industry of Ukraine were analyzed. It has been established that the mining industry has a significant potential for development, which is confirmed by significant reserves of natural resources. However, due to the extensive use of nature, there is depletion of the subsoil, which requires reforming the economic mechanism of their use. The mining industry is competitive at the international level, which is confirmed by the growth in the volume of exported products for 2017–2021. However, taking into account Ukraine’s integration aspirations for joining the EU, it is necessary to apply international norms and standards to increase the efficiency of enterprises in this field and reduce their negative impact on the environment. Solving the problems that occur in the mining industry of Ukraine requires a comprehensive approach and the implementation of environmentally safe technologies, eco-innovation. It is advisable to develop a strategy for the sustainable development of the mining industry based on the integration of three components: economic (competitiveness), environmental (resource efficiency, eco-safety) and social (employment and creation of safe working conditions). Effective management of natural resources is possible only if there is reliable and complete information about these natural resources. Accounting is an information system that provides internal users with information to make effective management decisions aimed at the exploitation and rational use of resources. The tools for implementing sustainable nature management are singled out: regulatory and legal, information and communication research and development. Taking into account the specifics of the mining industry, accounting objects were specified for further improvement of their organizational and methodological support.

The article is devoted to the analysis of depiction and artistic features of the icon "The Exaltation of the Cross, with additional plots", which appeared on the antique market in 2020 and was acquired by a private gatherer, thanks to which the artifact became available for studying for the first time. The icon was painted by the outstanding Nevyansk icon painters Bogatyrevs in 1843 by order of the famous mining expert G. F. Zotov, whose story stirred up public opinion in the second quarter of the 19th century. This image of complex iconography is not only a rare dated and signed monument of icon painting, but also a kind of historical document. The article reveals three most important topics related to this monument. Thanks to a full reading of the commemorative inscription on the lower field of the icon, it has been established that the icon was painted in memory of the release of G. F. Zotov from exile by Tsar`s order on September 14, 1841. The analysis of the unique iconographic program, and the plots depicted as well as the texts of the inscriptions led the author of the article to the conclusion that the icon, written according to a special, deeply thought-out program, contained self-justification of G. F. Zotov and a kind of his encrypted message to descendants. According to its artistic merits, and perfection of composition, subtlety of painting, and exquisite color, the icon becomes one of the best works of the Nevyansk icon painters Bogatyrevs and can serve as a reference work for this recognized school of Old Believers’ icon painting. However, in addition to its highest artistic merits, this unique monument has all the signs of a historical source containing valuable and previously unknown facts of the biography of G. F. Zotov, an outstanding figure of the metallurgical industry of Russia.

The changes in the sectoral and spatial structure of the world’s mining industry that occurred the period during 1980–2019 in the conditions of post-industrial development of the world economy are considered. The relevance of the study is dictated by the global process of dematerialisation of the economy under the influence of scientific and technological progress and the transition of world production to the principles of sustainable development, which causes not only a change in the role of the mining industry in the structure of the economy, but also entails a qualitative transformation of its spatial structure. On the base of calculations of indices characterising the intensity of dynamics, structural shifts and the spatial concentration of the volumes of mineral raw materials extraction with the subsequent interpretation of their values, the key trends in the development of the mining industry and the features characteristic of its constituent sectors, including the extraction of coal, oil, natural gas, iron ore, bauxite, copper, potash and phosphate rock were identified. The result of the conducted research is the revealed features of the mining industry development in the post-industrial period, which consist of positive dynamics of its functioning, stabilisation of the sectoral structure and strengthening of the positions of developing countries and individual regions in the extraction of mineral resources. The obtained results allow us to assess the features of processes taking place in the primary sector of the world economy at the present stage of development and the role of individual countries and regions in the mining industry of the world.

Search, extraction and enrichment of minerals are of the strategic importance for sustainable economic development. Accounting as an information system should provide interested users with reliable, complete and unbiased information on mining, however, national and international accounting standards governing the accounting of mining enterprises and reporting requirements contain only general principles of regulation. The article analyzes the financial statements and audit reports of mining companies to reflect their information about activities. It was found that companies are not interested in disclosing information related to exploration and evaluation of minerals, the impact of such exploration on the environment, the cost of environmental protection. The inclusion of environmental sustainability indicators in the reporting of extractive industries will help to consume resources efficiently, minimize disturbances, reduce pollution, as well as close and rehabilitate depleted mine lands. Attention should be paid not only to the information in the reporting, but also to the relevant audit.

Introduction. Anthropogenic activities cause large-scale environmental problems. The growing volumes of toxic emissions contribute to soil, water, and air pollution, thus posing a serious threat to all living systems and the global ecosystem. New reclamation methods are a relevant research topic as they help to restore and preserve ecosystems. Study objects and methods. The research covered sixteen years of scientific publications from PubMed of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (USA), Elsevier (Scopus, ScienceDirect), Web of Science, and the national electronic library service eLibrary.ru. Results and discussion. The authors reviewed various scientific publications to define the main technogenic objects that have a toxic effect on biota. Soil is more vulnerable to destructive effects, and mining wastes are responsible for the largest share of technogenically disturbed objects. Pollutants include many compounds, such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, sulfur compounds, acids, etc. Reclamation technologies reduce the man-induced impact on the environment, e.g. pollutants can be completely or partially destroyed, processed into non-toxic products, completely removed, stabilized into less toxic forms, etc. This review provides information on the main methods of reclamation of disturbed soils and substantiates the prospect of developing integrated reclamation technologies. Conclusion. The present review featured the main pollutants of anthropogenic origin and the traditional soil reclamation methods. The most prospective new technologies of soil reclamation appeared to be a combination of such biological methods as phytoremediation, bioaugmentation, and biostimulation.

Introduction. Coal mining is the main source of anthropogenic impact on the landscapes of the Kemerovo Region – Kuzbass. The current mine reclamation rate lags far behind the annual increase in disturbed lands. A reclamation fund can be a perfect solution to this relevant issue. The present research objective was to analyze and structure the available data on the anthropogenic impact of coal mining in Kuzbass. The article reviews new effic ient methods of reclamation and resoiling. Study objects and methods. The study featured ten years of research publications that were registered in the PubMed database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (USA), Elsevier (Scopus, ScienceDirect), the Web of Science, and the Russian Electronic Library (eLibrary.ru). Results and discussion. The research revealed the following Kuzbass districts that experience the greatest mining impact: Novokuznetsk, Prokopyevsk, Kemerovo, Belovo, and Leninsk-Kuznetskiy. The authors also identified the most common pollutants associated with coal mining. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) appeared to be the most dangerous pollutants: as waste coal burns, these substances cover considerable distances with the wind. Biodegradation seems to be the optimal solution because PAHs are known to be carcinogenic, and most mine tips are located near settlements. The article also features mine reclamation laws and introduces a list of plants with a high absorption capacity recommended for biological reclamation, as well as microorganisms and their consortia used for bioremediation. Conclusion. The authors identified the most promising methods of mine reclamation in the Kemerovo region, i.e. bioremediation with pollutant-binding microbial consortia and plants.

Competitiveness of mining enterprises is determined, mainly by their productivity and operation superiority. Digitalization becomes a decisive factor, which can provide an opportunity to companies of this sphere to remain competitive in the future. In mining industry passing-over to new, advanced methods of work usually happens more slowly due to the scale and complexity of production processes and considerable costs necessary for re-equipment. That is why certain enterprises of this field use digital technologies without enthusiasm. However, the leading mining companies in the world invest vast funds in development of advanced technologies in power engineering and automation in order to increase mining and ecological efficiency, to cut the volume of hand labour, costs and power expenses. It is obvious that digital technologies can give new opportunities for serious rise in productivity and profit. The article studies key lines in digital transformation at mining enterprises, demonstrates basic advantages and potential threats. The authors analyze both foreign and Russian examples of effective digitalization at enterprises of this sphere.

Cuba is traditionally considered a country with an underdeveloped industry. The share of the mining and metallurgical industries in the gross industrial production of the republic is small – about 3 % of GDP. The development of deposits and the extraction of nickel ores is an important sector of the economy of the Republic of Cuba, since the largest reserves of nickel and cobalt on the North American continent are located on the territory of the country. The development of the country energy system can serve as a growth factor in this sector of the economy. Due to climatic features and impossibility of integrating new capacities into the energy system through the construction of hydroelectric power plants, solar energy is a promising direction. Determining the feasibility of using solar tracking systems to increase the generation of electricity from solar power plants is one of the main challenges faced by engineers and renewable energy specialists. Currently, there are no solar tracking systems in Cuba that can provide information to assess the effectiveness of this technology in the country. The lack of the necessary technologies, as well as the high cost of developing solar power plants with tracking systems, limit the widespread introduction of such complexes. Hence follows the task of creating an inexpensive experimental model that allows assessing the effectiveness of tracking systems in specific weather conditions of the Republic of Cuba. This model will allow in future to increase the efficiency of electrical complexes with solar power plants, which provide power supply to the objects of the mineral resource complex and other regions.

The study relevance is due to the low efficiency of logistics systems of industrial enterprises and a limited set of methods for managing operational logistics activities. The work touches upon the key aspects of the activities of company logistics departments, namely the management, motivational, operational, process and information functions. The models and tools presented in the study allow implementing a large-scale concept of changes that modifies the work methods, economics and status of logistics of a large industrial holding company. The developed concept is based on methods of finding a balance between logistics costs, services and risks of dependence on third-party logistics operators, as well as on a set of tools to reduce the share of logistics costs in the cost of finished products of industrial holding companies. A portfolio of projects aimed at introducing a matrix organizational and managerial structure of a logistics company, regulating core activities, normalization and planning of operating activities, introducing a KPI system and staff motivation is used in the study as the basic transformation tools. The issues of automation of a logistics company main processes and creation of a 4PL-operator on the basis of an existing logistics company of a large industrial holding company allowing achieving a significant economic effect and reducing the share of logistics costs in the cost of finished products are considered.

The article considers the issue of the formation of state management system of industry in the USSR, which was developed on the basis of the first decrees of the Soviet government. The relevance of the study is due to the consonance of the past problems of the mining industry with the modern ones, which manifested themselves in the conditions of a radical transformation of the state's position in relation to mineral resources. It is shown that in the 1920s in the country, the processes of liquidation of local entrepreneurship, the transition to a centralized, planned-regulated system of economic management, within which there was an enlargement and state monopolization of its mining industry began. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that, on the basis of documentary sources, the process of creating an mining industry in the Yakut ASSR is revealed, the course of making consistent, logically grounded decisions corresponding to the chosen principles and priorities of the development of the region is traced. The presented results reflect the peculiarities and specifics of local realities, in the conditions of which difficult decisions were made, proceeding from the vital economic interests of the republic. It was found that the efforts of the republican authorities to organize, select priorities in the distribution of human resources, undertaken in the 1920s subsequently proved their effectiveness, contributed to the formation of a public administration system operating on the principles of economic independence of the region.

The branch features of functioning the enterprises of the extractive industry influencing the organization of the account, the analysis and audit are established: limited stocks of minerals influence the actual period of functioning of the enterprise; seasonal demand for products; complex production; the location of the enterprise in relation to settlements must be consistent with the safety of the technological process for the environment, people; obtaining special permits for legitimate subsoil use. The elements of accounting policy as a tool for the actual reflection of contractual and depreciation policy in the financial statements are described. It was found that all surveyed companies apply a uniform depreciation policy. Given the seasonal nature of production and underutilization of capacity, it is proposed to move to the application of intensive depreciation policy. This will allow you to clearly plan the timing of equipment upgrades and the cost of own or borrowed funds for its implementation Stages of assessment of buyers’ solvency are offered. The first stage involves establishing the degree of implementation of agreements between buyers and the mining industry. The second stage involves determining the completeness of the provision of cash or non-cash proceeds from sales based on the establishment of correlations between the indicators of the statement of financial performance and the statement of cash flows. The third stage involves establishing the increase in receivables for sold products, goods, works, services for the reporting period and the share of the increase in receivables in the net income from sales for the reporting period.

The aim of the article is to present the results of laboratory analyses determining the content of rare earth elements (REE) in hard coal type 31.1. Coal was extracted directly from the mining excavation located in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. Mass spectrometry tests with ionization in inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS), were aimed at the quantitative analysis of the share of REE in coal, taking into account the economic aspects of recovery of these elements. Fine ground hard coal samples and ashes obtained after coal burning were assessed for the rare earth elements concentration. Results of the rare earth elements concentration (lanthanum and cerium) in hard coal are similar in the values obtained in previous tests. The current analyses present higher concentration of europium or neodymium. The article also contains the concept of possible future research work, consisting in the recovery of rare earth elements using, among others, a classifying hydrocyclone.

The mining complex of the Murmansk region (Russia) has a negative impact on natural ecosystems and worsens the quality of the environment, since the development of non-renewable mineral resources is associated with a significant transformation and destruction of natural communities. In the Murmansk region, where the mining industry forms the basis of the regional economy, the research aimed at achieving sustainable development goals involves the search for 1) new integrated approaches to ensure the development and implementation of environmentally friendly technologies for the extraction and processing of minerals; 2) managerial decisions supporting the transition to a circular economy; 3) the establishment and development of protected areas, including compensatory; 4) the restoration of disturbed landscapes; 5) the development of nature-like technologies for the recovery of valuable components from minerals, and 6) the protection of the environment. Futhermore, there is need for a constant search for some balance of interests of local communities and mining corporations in the context of environmental protection and economic development in order to maintain social sustainability. Without designing the foundations of the state policy for the transition to a closed-loop economy, the implementation of even existing technologies will be too slow. There is a survey of nature-like technologies developed in the Kola Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences for processing minerals and protecting the environment, rehabilitation of disturbed areas exposed to industrial air pollution, reclamation of the water and land areas polluted by oil and oil products as well as examples of territorial nature conservation that do not block the development of processing minerals.

Increasing role of human capital, knowledge and advanced technologies demonstrate the fact of shaping a new stage of economic development, i. e. economy of knowledge, where innovation becomes an integral part of business. However, indicators of innovation development show that Russia is seriously lagging behind western countries. At the same time the development of Russian regions is extremely uneven and it is connected mainly with mining regions. A key industrial region of the Russian Federation – the Kemerovo region was selected for analysis. The article estimates the innovation potential of the region and indentifies acute problems hindering its integration in economy of knowledge. It was shown that existing problems should be resolved by a whole set of measures aiming at the development of partnership relations of power, science and business, at the formation of conditions necessary to attract and retain highly-qualified specialists, at building up adequate infrastructure and surroundings for making business, at upgrading the legal base, at the development of international and inter-regional cooperation in the field of managing knowledge and innovation. Apart from that an important role of techno-parks for the development of economy of knowledge in regions was underlined.

Localization is regarded as a milestone of economic and social development at national and regional levels since it may contribute to the growth of production capacity. Following the potential of localization, governments of various mining countries resort to such strategic solution aiming to boost the growth of remoted areas such as the Arctic region. However, the implementation of localization strategies, assessment methodology and intermediate consequences vary significantly. Thus, the theoretical underpinnings of localization regarding generation of ripple effects and analysis of current implications are essential are the basis of our research question. Norwegian localization experience is considered as the most successful, while Russian at-tempts to create local content in the Arctic are frequently criticized. Therefore, we focused on the comparative analysis of Norwegian and Russian localization experience. The study comprises examination of both national and regional levels aiming to reveal key components of success and potential burdens. On national level, the research addresses macroeconomic Input-Output model focused on assessing the cumulative im-pact and potential of mining industry. On regional level, we conducted analysis of the key socio-economic indicators affected mostly by mining activities as well as their localization. In this regard, we used available statistical microdata. Given the results, the success of localization in remoted regions is determined by intensification of inter-regional links and implementation of the governmental approach towards mining projects focusing on upstream and downstream industries. At the same time, narrow governmental regulation leads to leakage of potential benefits. The research results may contribute to increase of knowledge on localization and ripple effects dynamic. Moreover, they may be considered while developing localization solutions for the Arctic projects.

The level of development has been considered, the impact of mining industry on the world economy and its connections with other spheres of the world economy have been analyzed. Today mining industry is not only one of the leading fields of global economy, but it has also promoted the emergence of other fundamental branches. The development of this sphere is extremely important not only for the state, which plays the role of a regulator, but also for investors, contractors, suppliers, service companies, indigenous population and consumers. Due to its long-term development, mining industry differs from the majority of other kinds of human activity. Diversified mining industry is generally a prerogative of highly developed countries since only several segments are often functioning in less developed countries, and sometimes mineral raw materials are only extracted there. Nowadays no country in the world possesses full range of all types of rocks and minerals. Basic tendencies in development of extraction of mineral raw materials in different countries have been described. The current state of global mining industry can be called the advent of the so-called new era due to the increase of cost of mineral raw materials; however it is also necessary to develop the fields even with quite small and low-quality mineral reserves. Mining operations and development of mineral deposits are being relocated from the developed countries to the developing ones. It is better to consider the possibility of improvement of already existing objects instead of building brand new ones for more efficient and easier operation of mining companies. Problems of functioning and obstacles of development of mining enterprises in Ukraine under current conditions have been determined, ways of their elimination and increase of effectiveness in the branch in general have been proposed. National mining industry is adversely affected by such external factors as the global financial and economic crisis, processes of globalization. Although the mineral-raw material base of Ukraine has a sufficient amount of explored reserves of most mineral resources, it is currently at the stage of depletion of the subsoil, which requires the reformation of the economic mechanism for its use.

Some problems of the tradition of studying the mining industry of Prikamye in the context of the economic policy of the state in the pre-revolutionary period of Russian historiography (the second half of the 18th - early 20th centuries) are considered. The relevance of the study is due, in particular, to the tercentenary of the publication on December 21 (10), December 1719 by Peter I of Berg-Privilege, which for the first time established the legal foundations of mining in Russia, as well as the need to describe the latest trends and results of the interaction of physical nature and the human community, which are of contradictory character. The main attention is paid to the analysis of those works of encyclopedic scientists, participants in academic expeditions, historians, geographers, economists, statisticians, mining engineers and representatives of other fields of knowledge that contain information at the regional level. It is concluded that the study of the mining industry and its impact on the natural and social environment began in parallel with the further development of resources in the second half of the 18th century, mainly Prikamye, the Urals and Siberia and, as a result, the emergence of new factory settlements. It is shown that the works of scientists were of an interdisciplinary nature, had a pronounced practical orientation and were largely determined by the need to ensure the fiscal interests of the empire. It is alleged that a complex of fundamental and applied problems was raised, which determined the content of research in the subsequent period.

Computer systems supporting the management of machines operation and maintenance in companies have been successfully applied in many branches of industry. Over the last few years these systems have been considerably transformed. It also seems that using them for operating mining machines in hard coal mines is inevitable, as maintenance generates high production costs. If implemented, the systems will allow for optimization of stocks, spare parts and materials, supplies, outsourced services as well as maintenance-repair works. Application of a system supporting the management of mining machines/equipment will also enable a better, more effective use of employees. As a result of these actions, the time needed for preparations and repair will be shortened, which will translate directly into the economic effects of mines.

The first initiatives of the Soviet authorities on the organization of geological researches of minerals and creation of the enterprises for their industrial production in Yakutia are considered. It is established that in the process of formation of the state system of geological exploration and development of subsoil resources in Yakutia there are two main periods: the initial one (1920-1922), when the search for minerals was not yet associated with the industrial development of deposits, and the second period (1923-1925), during which the state system of search, exploration and development of mineral deposits was created in the Yakut ASSR, at the same time, the centralized structure of industry management included for the first time both regulatory bodies for geological prospecting and exploration of minerals, and bodies for managing enterprises of industrial field development. The author argues that as a result of the reforms of 1920-1925, geological exploration, which previously was primarily purely scientific in nature, was put at the service of production. It is concluded that in these years the Yakut ASSR formed a centralized state management structure that controlled the process of technical and economic evaluation of mineral deposits and the implementation of all targeted activities in the field of mining.

It is well emphasized in the literature that PR practice is largely determined by the socio-political and economic context in which it works. However, it is argued that PR practice is slowly changing to adapt to specific contexts and needs, especially for the elite groups it serves. This study discusses how PR practice as a discourse technologist through CSR initiatives programs works in the coal mining industry in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. By using Foucauldian Discourse Analysis, this article assesses the dominant themes that arise from the interview with PR and CSR practitioners and the CSR Reports from two coal mining companies which awarded several CSR awards in national and international level. The study found two dominant PR practices as corporate discourse technologists, which are to promote CSR to improve corporate competitiveness and to act as CSR programs advisor that are subjected to PR ethical standards dilemma.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the possibilities of increasing the efficiency of a mining company by managing specific assets using a complementary approach. The relevance of the work is caused by the fact that the mining industry differs from other sectors of the economy because of the specificity of the mineral raw materials and production processes. The mineral resources assets that form the company's mineral resources potential are unique in nature. Their main feature is the exhaustion and dependence of the value of mineral raw materials on the influence of a combination of factors, whose action can cause both its decrease and increase. In addition, the specifics of the mining processes determine the organization of activities, complicating the management of a mining enterprise, which, along with constantly changing external factors, forces the management of a mining company to look for new ways to improve production efficiency. The purpose of the study is to establish the role of digital assets in the activities of mining enterprises and determine the necessary requirements for their successful operation. In the course of the study, an analysis of Russian and foreign scientific literature was carried out, the experience of mining enterprises was studied, and methods such as comparative analysis, systematization and generalization of the results were used. The article discusses the growing importance of digitalization for mining enterprises. The problems of introducing digital assets in the mining industry have been identified. The authors substantiated the need for complex integration of digital assets with other assets, and identified the relationships between them. The concept of complementarity in the analysis of intangible assets is disclosed and the characteristics of complementary assets are clarified. It was revealed that exactly the complementary assets contribute to improving the efficiency of mining companies through the development of open innovations, provided that the necessary environment is created. The significance of this study is that it will allow the management of mining companies to make adjustments to the organization of production and management processes in order to increase their economic efficiency. The directions of further research are the presentation of a model for the integration of complementary assets and the development of a methodology for assessing the complex economic effects of the use of complementary assets in mining companies.

The article analyzes the peculiarities of the process of updating the industry of the Urals in the early XX century. The economic crisis has forced the industry to move strongly towards concentration of production. However, this process in the Urals flowed late and did not end until the outbreak of the First world war.

Modern working conditions of miners in the mining industry are characterized by intensive noise and vibration, high dustiness, unfavorable microclimate, the levels of which often exceed hygienic standards. Unfortunately, the current regulatory framework does not take into account the fact that in real life most of the production personnel are exposed not to one but several factors of the working environment at the same time. Thus, the sanitary standarts established for factors that act singularly and guarant the preservation of health precisely for these conditions may be untenable. Ensuring sustainable safety when working in electrical installations should be achieved by complying with electrical safety requirements. But permissible levels of contact currents and voltages currently recommended by the International Electrotechnical Commission do not take into account the joint effect of electric current and other physical factors, and noise in particular. The effect of sound pressure level and its frequency on the resistance of the human body is proved earlier in V.V. Katsay's thesis. The study of the effect of noise on magnitude of threshold perceptible current is resumed in laboratory conditions at the Department of Life Safety of the South Ural State University. To obtain reliable results a test complex was designed and built. The complex includes a muffled chamber, sources of simulated voltages and noise, a block of recording instruments. Primary electrical safety criteria are investigated for an increased frequency (5000 Hz) under the influence of noise load. Voltages and currents that cause feelings are measured before the impact of noise and under the influence of noise with a sound pressure level of 97 dB. The dependence built calls into question the result obtained from results of previous studies on the need to reduce settings at which tools of safety shutdown trigger.

Article is devoted to the problems of a mountain industry of the South of Russia caused by a general crisis of the reformed economy. The directions of survival of the entities are sounded: involvement in the sphere of production of inventories of technogenic fields and enhancement of work of an economic mechanism in market economy. Features of a resource situation and an economic mechanism of mining and processing enterprises are characterized. The criterion of quality of mineral raw materials in the form of onboard content is formulated. The method of the multidimensional comparative analysis for complex assessment of variable technical and economic indicators of activities of the entity is offered. The role of categories flexibility and adaptability as conditions of efficiency of an economic system is opened. As the general direction the concept of decrease in capital and operating costs of the entity by a combination of traditional and conversion technologies in case of the single scheme of development of fields is offered. The characteristic of assessment of parameters of innovative development a method of production functions is this in case of conversion of the entity on innovative technologies. For mathematical handling of experimental results the approximated production function of Kobba-Douglas is recommended. It is offered to estimate a lost profit on the lost value of a useful component determined by the ceiling price of an industry that allows to come to single criterion -profit taking into account damage on losses of mineral in case of alternative technologies.

Today mining is developing very intensively and potash industry in particular. Reserve areas are explored and cut, new fields are explored and developed, new license areas of potassium and magnesium deposits are developed. Underground mining of mineral deposits leads to significant deformation of the earth's surface. The impact of potash industry on the environment is diverse and covers many natural components. In case of mine flooding, catastrophic consequences, accompanied by depressions and sinkholes, cover a considerable area. The main feature of potash production is accumulation of a significant amount of waste in sludge storage and salt piles with brine collectors. Sewage and penetration from salt piles and sludge storage are the main sources of environmental pollution. Mining and processing of ore at potash enterprises is associated with formation of a large number of waste rocks. Millions of tons of liquid and solid wastes are stored on ground surface in salt piles and brine sludge storages, which negatively affects the environment. However, negative effects of salt pile placement can be avoided or minimized. Today there are a number of developments aimed to improve methods of underground storage of wastes of potash industry both solid halite and liquid clay-salt. The paper considers a new version of waste disposal placement of potash industry, which is currently being considered in design documentation for development of licensed area of Nivenskoe-1 field of potassium and magnesium salts in Kaliningrad region. In case of a positive conclusion of state expertise, this technology will be implemented. Such approach could be used in development of other deposits of potassium and magnesium salts (Verkhnekamsk, Gremiachinsk etc.).

The article describes the changes in the chemical composition of surface waters under the impact of the exploited Korpangskoye iron ore deposit of the Kostomuksha mining and processing plant. The rate of contamination of the water bodies within its impact zone was found to be higher than at the Kostomukshskoye iron ore deposit. There has been a growing trend in mineralization and the content of K+, SO4 2-, NO3 -, Li and Ni in the surface waters. Contamination of the water bodies was assessed against national and regional maximum permissible concentrations.

Mineral resources of the Komi Republic and the trends and dynamics of their development determine to a great degree the level of the regions’ economic development. The Republic has significant reserves of oil, gas, coal, aluminum, chromium, manganese, titanium, rare metals, gold, barite, fluorite, and quartz raw materials. However, the region’s mining industry is still in the process of formation, this fact makes it possible to foresee and handle major social and environmental issues that accompany mining activities. The analysis of global trends in the implementation of mining projects substantiates the necessity to build a positive reputation of mining companies for ensuring stable production and for solving social and economic problems of territories. The paper also determines staffing requirements of prospective mining enterprises and possible social risks. The authors substantiate the necessity to redistribute taxes and payments in favor of the areas where mining companies operate, and they propose ways of attracting investment in mining projects on the stage of exploration with the help of a flexible fiscal policy. The main environmental problems of perspective objects of mining complex development can include the concentration of hazardous emissions, discharges and waste and the aggravation of environmental impact. The transformation of living organisms is moving toward the reduction of species diversity, simplification and changing community structure due to the disappearance of sensitive and rare species. The assessment of environmental impact intensity, based on the point estimation of the correlation between existing anthropogenic load and environmental resistance, has shown that the levels are medium and high. Taking into consideration the increased anthropogenic load, it is necessary to determine restrictions of nature management during pre-investment stage, to set out in the license the overall admissible amount of land resources usage for the purposes of industrial infrastructure, conduct environmental impact assessment for the field in general and to restore the disturbed taiga and tundra ecosystems using scientifically grounded restoration methods

The article considers growth of expenditures of enterprise operation, resource nationalism, necessity of a complex development of the Earth interiors as important factors of prospective development of the mining industry of Ukraine. It justifies that development of the mining industry in future should be accompanied with strengthening of the regulatory role of the state. It states that Ukraine should make maximum efforts for creation of favourable conditions for business within the state and stimulate return of capital into the national economy. Only this would help to avoid economic dependence, to become an equal player in the world market of metal intensive products, to protect national interests and to preserve the existing resource potential for future generations.Рассматриваются рост расходов эксплуатации предприятий, ресурсный национализм, необходимость комплексного освоения недр как существенные факторы перспективного развития горнорудной промышленности Украины. Обосновано, что развитие горнорудной промышленности в дальнейшем должно сопровождаться усилением регуляторной роли государства. Высказано убеждение, что Украина должна приложить максимум усилий для создания благоприятных условий для бизнеса в пределах государства и стимулировать возвращение капиталов в национальную экономику. Только при этом условии можно предотвратить экономическую зависимость, стать равноправным игроком на мировом рынке металлоемкой продукции, защитить национальные интересы и сохранить имеющийся ресурсный потенциал для будущих поколений.

Russian-German businessman Andrew Knauf is a remarkable person and an innovator in the Urals mining and metallurgical industry of the early nineteenth century, who made a positive impact on its development. The author examines the Knauf activities as the holder of the mining enterprises, modernized due to the transfer of Western technologies. His experience is interesting in the context of serfdom and the lack of qualified personnel in the existing system possessional factories. Traces the entrepreneur with the state interaction, and attempts to identify a real contribution to the production and the region development and the reasons for the Knauf failure. The author makes a fundamental difference between financial failure Knauf and its role in enterprises technical and social modernization, which became for some time the Ural growth and innovation leaders, directly influenced the steam engines in the state factories introduction.Knauf can be attributed to a new type of entrepreneur, socially responsible business.
