- Abstract
Introduction: Among the urgent problems of pediatrics, chronic constipation occupies one of the leading positions due to its high prevalence (20-40%) and the possibility of complications. Conductive cryotherapy, used separately and in combination with percutaneous electroneurostimulation, is a promising technology for the treatment of chronic constipation in children., Aim of Study: Scientific evidence of the use of conductive cryotherapy and its combined effect with percutaneous electroneurostimulation in children with chronic constipation., Materials and Methods: We examined 80 children aged 3-15 years (average age 8±2 years) suffering from chronic constipation: 35 (43.8%) boys, 45 (56.2%) girls. In 47 (58.8%) children, chronic constipation of the hypotonic type (HT) was detected, in 33 (41.2%) - chronic constipation of the spastic type (ST). Children were divided into 4 groups, comparable in number, age, gender and clinical manifestations. Patients of all groups received basic treatment: laxative diet, probiotics, choleretic drugs, enzymes. Patients of the main group used the combined effect of conduction cryotherapy and percutaneous electroneurostimulation - cryoelectroneurostimulation. Conduction cryotherapy was prescribed for children of the 1st comparison group, percutaneous electroneurostimulation was assigned to the 2nd comparison group. Patients in the control group received only basic therapy. In order to assess the effectiveness of impact of physical factors, clinical and functional examinations of children were carried out before treatment, immediately after the course of treatment, and also 3, 6 and 12 months later after treatment., Results and Discussion: The highest treatment efficacy was found in children of the main group with HT and ST (91.6 and 87.5%, respectively) after cryoelectronic neurostimulation. Conduction cryotherapy was most effective for the treatment of ST (77.7%). The results of the study made it possible to develop an algorithm for the prescription of percutaneous electroneurostimulation and conduction cryotherapy, depending on the type of dyskinetic disorders of the colon in children. All children, regardless of the type of chronic constipation, are prescribed to use the combined effects of physical factors (cryoelectroneurostimulation), percutaneous electroneurostimulation is recommended for HT, conductive cryotherapy - for ST., Conclusion: The higher therapeutic effectiveness of the combined use of conduction cryotherapy and percutaneous electroneurostimulation in various types of dyskinetic disorders in children has been proved according to immediate and long-term results of treatment. An algorithm is proposed for differential use of conduction cryotherapy and percutaneous electroneurostimulation taking into account the type of dyskinetic disorders of the colon.

- Abstract
Allergic diseases are a common pathology in childhood. In the comprehensive medical rehabilitation of children with allergic pathology, non-drug methods of treatment are widely used, which help to reduce the number of drugs used, achieve and prolong the remission of the disease, favorably affect the clinical and functional indicators., The Purpose of the Study: Is the scientific justification for the use of selective chromotherapy in children with bronchial asthma (BA) and atopic dermatitis (AD)., Material and Methods: The study included 120 children with allergic diseases (BA and AD). Among 100 patients with BA, the main group included 50 children, who received exposure to monochromatic polarized green light on biologically active zones for 10 days, 50 - a comparison group that did not receive physiotherapy. The main group of children with AD included 10 patients who received selective blue chromotherapy for foci of skin lesions; the comparison group included 10 children who used only moisturizers without physiotherapy methods. In order to assess the effectiveness of the impact of physical factors in all patients, clinical and functional studies were conducted in the dynamics before and after treatment., Results and Discussion: The results of clinical and functional examinations showed high therapeutic efficacy of the use of monochromatic polarized green light in children with BA (92.0%). The effectiveness of treating children with blood pressure AD using monochromatic polarized light (blue) was 80%. Indications for the use of selective chromotherapy in children with allergic diseases have been developed. For children with BA, selective chromotherapy of the green spectrum is indicated in the presence of a mild to moderate course of the disease, a period of incomplete remission, and an increased level of anxiety. It is advisable to prescribe selective chromotherapy of the blue spectrum to children with a moderate and mild course of AD., Conclusion: The positive effect of selective chromotherapy of the green spectrum on the clinical course of BA in children, bronchial patency, the functional state of the central nervous system and its autonomic part, and the psychoemotional status of children have been identified. The use of selective blue spectrum chromotherapy in children with AD helps to decrease the severity of objective symptoms, reduce the intensity of itching and sleep disturbance, as well as a marked decrease in the area of skin lesion.

- Abstract
The article presents modern technologies of medical rehabilitation of children operated for hydronephrosis. The importance of medical rehabilitation of children with hydronephrosis is associated with high incidence, possibility of developing chronic kidney disease, and early disability of these patients. After surgery on the ureter it is important to use medical rehabilitation technologies aimed at preventing urodynamics disorders of upper and lower urinary tract, and at stimulation of regenerative processes. In recent years, particular attention has been paid to high-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, which has a more significant and long-term stimulating effect compared to various types of electrical stimulation. Clinical studies were conducted in 80 children operated for hydronephrosis, aged 3 to 15. The main group consisted of 40 children who received high-intensity pulsed magnetic therapy, and 40 children were included in the control group (without physiotherapy). Basic treatment included uroseptics and exercise therapy. Effectiveness of the method was assessed using clinical, laboratory and ultrasound data, and Doppler ultrasound of the renal blood flow. The results of the study demonstrated the rationale of including high-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field therapy in medical rehabilitation of children operated for hydronephrosis. The positive effect of high-intensity pulsed electromagnetic therapy on the urodynamics of the urinary tract (reduction in the size of renal pelvis and calyx) and renal blood flow (restoration of blood flow to the renal cortex) were revealed. This method helped to reduce inflammation in the renal parenchyma (reduction of proteinuria, leukocyturia) in children operated on for hydronephrosis. A significantly higher effectiveness of medical rehabilitation with the use of high-intensity pulsed magnetic therapy was proved (87.5%).

- Abstract
One of new methods for the physiotherapeutic treatment in pediatrics is the application of the pulsed low-frequency electrostatic field the action of which is based on the effects of deep resonant vibration on the affected tissue region with the minimal mecha-nical impact. Under the influence of the electrostatic field, the tissues at the site of interest become tightened and descend which causes their vibration due to the alternation of the pulses and intervals between them. The fast consecutive repetition of this process results in rhythmical deformation of the tissues. The electrostatic pulses are responsible for the increased friction between separate parts of the tissues while in the intervals between the pulses the tissue elastically resists their influence. In this way, the tissues subjected to such influence 'are pumped over' throughout their depth. It leads to the restoration of elasticity and mobilization of separate fibers and layers inside the tissue as well as to the development and improvement of the blood flow in the tissues and their blood supply. During the recent years, a large number of reports have been published in the literature concerning the possibilities of application of the pulsed low-frequency electrostatic field for the treatment and prevention of various di-seases in the children, including both monotherapy and its combination with other therapeutic modalities. The favourable action of the pulse low-frequency electrostatic field on the clinical course of bronchial asthma, mucoviscidosis, I and II degree scoliosis in the young children, remittent multiple sclerosis in the adolescents has been demonstrated. The data obtained give evidence of the high effectiveness of the proposed method, its excellent tolerance, and a wide range of beneficial effects on the main pathogenetic components of the diseases which creates the good prerequisites for the further active introduction of the therapeutic phy-sical factors in the practical work of the children's medical organizations.

- Abstract
This article describes the modern technologies for the medical rehabilitation of the children presenting with neurogenic dysfunction of the bladder aimed at improving the act of urination at all levels of innervation. The most frequent variant of neurogenic dysfunction of the bladder in the children is the hyper-reflexive one; it is this variant in which the most pronounced disorders of urodynamics due to intravesical hypertension and detrusor hypoxia are observed. The urodynamic disorders are known to contribute to the formation of the characteristic clinical picture associated with the hyper-reflexive urinary bladder dysfunction in the children characterized by the mandatory urination syndrome, pollakiuria, imperative urges, and mandatory urinary incontinence in the combination with enuresis. The treatment of urinary bladder dysfunction includes both behavioural and medication therapeutic modalities. The "golden standard" for the pharmacotherapy of neurogenic bladder dysfunction of the hyper-reflexive type in the childhood is the use of M-cholinoblockers, such as oxybutynin. The popularity of the physiotherapeutic methods is attributable to their influence on the main links of pathogenesis, the absence of side effects, and the possibility of application in the children of the early age. The combined treatment of neurogenic bladder dysfunction includes the use of a wide range of physiotherapeutic methods the action of which is aimed at regulating the act of urination at all levels of innervation of the bladder, normalizing the tone of the muscles of the bladder, eliminating sphincter insufficiency, improving circulation and accelerating the maturation of the neuromuscular apparatus of the pelvic organs. At present, the natural and preformed methods of physiotherapy are finding the wide application for the management of neurogenic dysfunction of the bladder in the children in the conjunction with therapeutic physical exercises, massage, and the biological feedback (BFB) technique.

- Abstract
This literature review is focused on the application of polychromatic and monochromatic polarized light for the treatment of various diseases of the childhood including those in the newborns and the premature babies. The analysis of the data of scientific research gives evidence of the beneficial effect of polychromatic polarized light on the clinical course of various skin diseases in the newborn children. Moreover, the improved immunological and reparative processes were revealed after the surgical interventions for congenital heart defects in the newborns. The light-induced changes in the skin contribute to the realization of therapeutic effects of polarized polychromatic light in such children's diseases as atopic dermatitis, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, neurogenic urinary bladder dysfunction, and the traumatic injuries of the limbs. The biologically positive physiological effects of monochromatic polarized light are known to contribute to the improvement of the clinical and functional status in the children presenting with bronchial asthma and in the patients frequently suffering from acute respiratory diseases. The versatility of the biological effects of polarized light taken together with the possibility of its application from the first days of the child's life, the short duration of the procedure, the absence of unpleasant sensations and contact between the damaged surface and the device as well as the simplicity of using the equipment determine the promising prospects for the use of the proposed method in the clinical pediatric practice.

- Abstract
Atopic dermatitis takes the predominant position in the structure of skin pathologies in the children of various age. Both the scientifically based forecasts and the data of numerous investigations give evidence not only of the significant increase in the number of patients presenting with this condition but also of the growing severity of this disease. Taken together, these facts account for the serious medico-social importance of the problems arising in connection with this pathology. The introduction of the eliminative actions, a hypoallergenic diet, local and systemic pharmacotherapeutic modalities do not always allow to prevent or arrest the inflammatory process and achieve the long-standing remission. The high frequency of undesirable reactions to the pharmacological products turns the attention of many clinicians to the application of the non-pharmacological factors and methods for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in the children. The main objectives of physical therapy in the case of atopic dermatitis include the normalization of the state of the central and vegetative nervous system, the achievement of hyposensitization, sedative, anti-toxic, and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as the application of the dissolving, trophic, and antipruritogenic agents, strengthening of the general health status of the children.

The objective of the present study was to develop a scientifically sound rationale for the application of halotherapy (HT) and magnetic therapy (MT) or their combination for the treatment of acute rhinosinusitis in the children. The clinical observations and special investigations were carried out in the comparative aspect and encompassed 120 children at the age varying from 5 to 15 years suffering from acute rhinosinusitis. The therapeutic effectiveness of the rehabilitative treatment was evaluated based on the results of the endoscopic study of the nasal cavity, analysis of the X-ray images of paranasal sinuses, rhinomanometry, investigations into the ciliary activity, and assessment of the mucosal immunity. The results of the present study gave evidence of the feasibility of incorporating HT and MT in the combined treatment of the children presenting with acute rhinosinusitis. The integrated use of the two methods proved to have the advantage over the separate application of either of them. The specific effects of HT and MT on the clinical course of acute sinusitis and the functional state of intranasal mucosa are described. The optimal methods of the treatment are proposed.

- Abstract
The objective of the present study was to develop a scientifically sound rationale for the application of the pulsed low-frequency electrostatic fields (PLIESF) for the combined treatment of the children presenting with bronchial asthma and the comparative assessment of the effectiveness of the use of this method either as monotherapy or together with therapeutic physical exercises based on the immediate and long-term results of the treatment. The dynamic clinical observations and special investigations were carried out on 101 children at the age varying from 5 to 15 years who suffered from bronchial asthma. PLIESF were shown to produce the beneficial effect on dynamics of clinical symptoms in the children manifested as the disappearance or reduced frequency of episodes of laborious respiration and the improvement of sputum discharge, auscultation picture, bronchial patency, and respiratory excursions of the chest. The application of PLIESF significantly increased the level of the general physical performance in the children with bronchial asthma, improved the functional conditions of the cardiovascular system, normalized both the cardiac rhythm and the heart rate. It was shown based on the analysis of the short-term and long-term outcomes of the treatment that the combined therapy with the use of the two physical factors, i.e. the pulsed low-frequency electrostatic fields and therapeutic physical exercises, ensures the significantly higher effectiveness of the treatment than the separate application of either of them.

- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effects of acupuncture integrated into the standard therapy, the condition of cerebral blood flow, and other syndromes associated with cerebral ischemia in the newborn infants. MATERIAL AND METHODS. A total of 131 pairs of puerperae and newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy were divided into four treatment groups. 34 children of the first group were given standard therapy (control), in the second group comprised of 33 mothers and children the standard treatment was supplemented by acupuncture, the third group included only 32 mothers given the acupuncture treatment alone, and the fourth group contained only 32 newborn infants treated by acupuncture. Each course of acupuncture treatment consisted of five sessions. Sensitivity and specificity of cerebral blood flow reactions were determined based on the results of the ROC-analysis and the area under the curve before and after the treatment., Results: The treatment with the use of acupuncture greatly improved the cerebrospinal hemodynamics (p < 0.05). Other symptoms, viz. sleep disorders, vegetative reactivity and excitability were significantly reduced. The ROC analysis confirmed the effectiveness of acupuncture as a tool for the treatment of the impaired cerebral blood flow in the newborn babies. The high level of sensitivity (84.4-94.8%) associated with good specificity makes it possible to distinguish between the true positive and true negative cases., Conclusion: Acupuncture integrated into the treatment of "mother-baby" pairs presenting with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy can be used to improve the initially low level of cerebral blood flow in neonates presenting with this condition.

- Abstract
In the present paper, we for the first time provide a rationale for the application of a new physical factor, pulsed magnetic stimulation, in pediatric practice. Our observations have demonstrated positive dynanfics of the parameters characterizing the functional state of the neuro-muscular apparatus and equalization of the amplitude of M-response as appears from the results of electromyographic studies. The data obtained by electrocardiography and estimation of the external respiratory function give evidence of favourable dynamics of the cardio-respiratory system. The results of the study have been used to substantiate the application of a new method of pulsed magnetic stimulation in pediatric medicine at the early stages of rehabilitation of the children following surgical treatment of grade Ill-IV scoliosis.

- Abstract
The use of anti-asthmatic preparations alone can not be considered sufficient for the rehabilitation of the children suffering from bronchial asthma. Traditional medicamental therapy does not allow mortality from asthma to be appreciably reduced. At the same time, it is known to produce serious adverse effects. The physical factors proved to be fairly well compatible with the basal treatment; specifically, their application makes it possible to decrease the amount of pharmaceutical products and the duration of therapy.

- Abstract
The development of prophylactic treatment is one of most challenging and socially significant aspects of modern pediatrics. Today, a great variety of natural and artificial physical factors are employed to protect and/or restore the health of the children and to improve it. The broad scope of non-medicamentous technologies used for the purpose makes it possible to elaborate prophylactic programs adapted to the specific requirements of individual patients at all levels of medical care including therapeutic and prophylactic, spa and resort institutions, educational institutions, health improvement and recreational camps of different types, and home care.

- Abstract
This paper reports the results of the treatment of 101 children presenting with bronchial asthma. The study has demonstrated the pronounced positive effect of the combined application of a pulsed low-frequency electrostatic field and therapeutic physical training on the dynamics of clinical symptoms of the disease. By the end of the treatment period, all the patients reported the disappearance of paroxysmal night-time coughing, productive cough, expectoration, and attacks of respiratory distress. Auscultation failed to reveal dry, whistling, and bubbling rales. Dynamics of the changes of the impaired airway patency was estimated from the results of computed pneumotachometry and monitoring peak expiratory flow by the peak flowmetric technique. The combined application of a pulsed low-frequency electrostatic field and therapeutic physical training significantly improved characteristics of the external expiratory function (PEF, FEV1, MEFR25, MEFR50--p < 0.02, MEFR75--p < 0.001). In the end of therapy, 96.7% of the children had normal parameters of computed flowmetry in the absence of a generalized impairment of bronchial patency while obstruction at the level of peripheral bronchi persisted only in 3.3% of the patients. The increase of PEF based on the results of peak flowmetry averaged 44.21% (p < 0.001). A rationale has been developed for the application of the proposed therapeutic strategy to the treatment of children with bronchial asthma.

- Abstract
Cystatins are thiol proteinase inhibitors ubiquitously present in the mammalian body. In brain, they prevent unwanted proteolysis and are involved in several neurodegenerative diseases. Under physiological conditions nitric oxide can be found in almost all the tissues, but under pathological conditions NO has damaging effects. Its increased concentration, under various neural diseases leads to cell damage through formation of highly reactive peroxynitrite. Our present study was designed to investigate the protective effect of curcumin against NO induced damage of HM-GBC. NO caused intensive structural and functional damage of HM-GBC, resulting in 89% loss of its antiproteolytic activity after 2 h of incubation. Structural damage occurs in the form of protein degradation. Curcumin significantly protected HM-GBC against this damage. This suggests that curcumin has a significant potential in the treatment of diseases caused by nitrogen free radicals and this potential must be further explored for the development of novel drugs.

- Abstract
The paper summarizes the results of clinical observations and special examinations conducted in 45 children with chronic gastroduodenitis by using combined exposure to sinusoidal modulated currents and ultrasound. The dynamics of clinical symptoms, functional status of the stomach and its adjacent gastroduodenal organs, endoscopic findings, morphological status of the gastroduodenal mucosa, gastric mucosal dissemination of Helicobacter pylori, systemic and regional humoral immunological parameters, abdominal echography indicate high therapeutical efficiency of the combined therapy as compared to that performed in controls (without physiotherapy). Mechanisms of formation of therapeutical action are clarified, differentiated indications are defined.
