The Bailin Chan Temple is a Chinese Buddhist center reconstructed since 1988. To regain the Buddhism's vitality in modern life, Master Jinghui who leads this temple proposes a new mode of practice of Chan-Buddhism through a re-interpretation of the tradition, which is named "Living Chan". Turning from other-worldly orientation to the inner-worldly approach, Living Chan values the everyday life of the modern individual. For the lay Buddhists, the salvation does not depend essentially on the meditation or on the asceticism, but rather on giving life meaning by the individual oneself in an ethical, aesthetic or intellectual manner. In the name of Living Chan, the Bailin Temple organizes each year a summer camp. Without imposition of a formal Buddhist identity, this summer camp constitutes a new accessibility to Buddhism for the youth.
