Groundwater is the most important natural source for supplying of drinking water around the world, especially in rural areas. The 14th khoroo (sub-district) of Khan-Uul district of Ulaanbaatar is only one khoroos where its inhabitants engage in animal husbandry and agriculture, which play an important role in the district’s economic growth, faces an increasing shortage of groundwater due to population and economic growth in the agriculture sector in the sub-district. In this study, we present the hydro-chemical characteristics and spatial distribution of aquifer using GIS and multivariate statistical approaches. During the sampling periods, a total of 51 groundwater samples were collected from 46 deep wells and 5 shallow wells in the area between October and November 2019. Samples included parameters of anions and cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO42-, NO3-, HCO3-) and EC. Data from all the samples were subject to cluster and component analysis. As a result, three clusters were defined and it was established that the dominant groundwater type is HCO3-Ca2+-Na+. The parameter of Mg2+ and Ca2+ were not set in the permissible limits of the second and third clusters. Principal component analysis (PCA) illustrated that the northern part of the study area is greater affected to anthropogenic activities and aquifer mineralogy. Moreover, it found that Ca2+ and Mg2+ correlated with each other, which could be helpful in site specific monitoring of groundwater quality. The results of the study will contribute to management and quality control of the groundwater in the city.

Cenozoic basalt, which is widespread in Mongolia, has been attracting the attention of Central Asian researchers since the beginning of the last century. This study identified the geomorphological shape of the Khorgo volcano. The main purpose of the study is to determine the origin and morphological form of Khorgo volcano, a key representative of Cenozoic volcanism. In general, there are several types of morphological forms associated with lava overflow, and it is important to determine which types are the most common and also to establish a link between them. Geomorphological studies in this area have not been conducted in Mongolia. Spatial improvement and morphometric methods satellite imagery had identified Khorgo volcanic faults. Khangai magmatism had thinned its crust to 45 km during the Tariat-Chuluut volcanic activity. It can be concluded that this was due to the thinning of the continental crust in the Khangai Mountains because of mantle plume. During this time, tectonic faults formed were formed, which had broken through the earth's crust. Part of this fault was formed in the vicinity of Khorgo Mountain from northwest to southeast, and lava flowed with the basic composition, which led to the formation of the current morphological form of Khorgo volcano. The lava flow was less than 45% silica and potassium-dominated, which blocked the Suman River valley and formed the present-day Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. The morphometric analysis compared the morphology of a typical volcano, which showed that the mouth of the crater of the Khorgo volcano has a slope slanting about 45 degrees, it is about 100 meters in depth, with a diameter of about 500 meters. By comparing the basalt composition of the Khorgo volcano and its morphometric characteristics with other standard volcanoes, it has been determined that it is in the form of a lava dome.

Objective – estimation of current epizootic condition of Mongolian part of transboundary Sailugem natural plague focus. Materials and methods. Epizootiological survey was performed for the area of 2335 km2, 277 mammals and 516 ectoparasites were investigated for plague. Results and conclusions. Eight Yersinia pestis subsp. pestis strains were isolated, including 7 strains – from grey marmots (6 – from the remains of meals of predatory birds, 1 from a corpse) and 1 – from long-tailed souslik (corpse). Y. pestis DNA was detected in 52 objects. Serological samples showed 40 positive results. Epizootic manifestations, confirmed by isolation of Y. pestis cultures, detection of plague microbe DNA, and positive serological results, were observed across the area of 1611 km2 covering 69 % of the inspected territory. Epizootic results indicated high infection rate of mass mammal species and first of all grey marmots. The data demonstrated that the extended plague epizooty caused by Y. pestis of the main subspecies occurred in the inspected territory in the carrier settlements. For the first time the circulation of Y. pestis subsp. pestis was registered in the Mongolian part of the transboundary Sailugem focus.

A study of the Mongolian flora and a survey of the herbarium collections of the Institute of General and Experimental Biology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, conducted in 2019, provided new information on the geographical distribution of Amaranthus retroflexus (Amaranthaceae, Chenopodiaceae s.l.) and Brassica juncea (Cruciferae, Brassicaceae) in Mongolia.

Introduction. Tibetan-language scriptures created by Mongolian monastic scholars and related studies are extremely few. To date, we are aware of a total of ten such scriptures. Goals. So, the article aims to introduce one such text into scientific circulation, the rest be examined in a series of subsequent works. Materials and methods. The study employs the historical comparative method and those of scientific identification, analysis and synthesis. Results. The paper reveals some errors and inaccuracies that contradict available historical and textual data. Comparative insights into classical works of the designated period identify certain lettering proper (some letters classified neither as vowels nor as consonants in the attempted grammar of written Mongolian) and letter-naming differences, as well as somewhat invariants for same grammatical terms. The analysis has also yielded data unavailable in other works on written Mongolian. Conclusions. The paper reveals evidence of existence of a Mongolian writing school in the fifteenth century, and shows the stylistic levels were distinguished by certain writing patterns.
