We assumed that the perception of artistic images containing a hidden (metaphorical) meaning would have a different effect on the characteristics of the EEG, depending on whether this meaning was understood by a person or not (an adequate solution to the task was found or not found).The aim of the work is to study the neurophysiological characteristics of the perception of metaphorical meaning in nonverbal plot sketches.To achieve this goal , the following tasks were formulated:1. To analyze and review electroencephalographic works on the perception of artistic images and metaphorical meaning.2. Conduct a psychophysiological study of the perception of nonverbal plot sketches containing metaphorical (hidden) meaning.3. To identify changes in the bioelectric activity of the brain associated with the perception and understanding of metaphorical meaning and to interpret these changes considering the literature data.A total of 19 subjects who underwent psychological testing and psychophysiological examination using the EEG/ERP method took part in the study. As a result of this work, we obtained differences in event-related synchronization/desynchronization when performing a task, depending on the type of stimulus (metaphorical plot sketches or caricature images); differences in evoked potentials when performing a task, depending on the presence or absence of a response and depending on the type of stimulus.The differences obtained when comparing data when performing tasks with different types of stimuli were interpreted by us as reflections of differences in stimuli associated with the perception of the physical characteristics of stimuli or understanding their meaning. The differences obtained when comparing situations when the subject gave and did not give an answer were us, we associated with memory processes.The results of this work can be used further in the study of the topics of visual perception, perception of metaphorical meaning and creativity.
