The article is devoted to the specifics of the forms and methods of trade on the Far Eastern frontier in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries. At the initial stage of colonization of the region, trade was distinguished by a number of features characteristic of frontier zones: the predominance of import trade, distribution trade carried out along the rivers from barges, fairs and mixed stationary trade. One of the main features of trade on the Far Eastern frontier was significant foreign influence. The competitive advantages of entrepreneurs from the USA and European countries were formed at the first stage of colonization from the delivery of goods by sea, the presence of established connections with suppliers of goods in the homeland, the possibility of obtaining a loan or the availability of working capital, the attraction of qualified compatriot employees, high quality of service and a comfortable environment in stores, and at the beginning of the 20th century – due to the export of technical innovations, further improvement of the quality of service, and the introduction of new standards of retail premises. We can speak of the perception of some of these practices by Russian merchants and positive changes in the organization of their trade business only in relation to the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century. It is difficult to judge, given the lack of memoirs of regional entrepreneurs, whether this occurred under the influence of European entrepreneurs or it was a consequence of business development and the increased level of education of local merchants. The main reasons for the success of the Chinese traders were solidarity, the ability to please the customer, mutual lending, minimizing expenses on advertising, insurance, furnishings of retail premises, heating, lighting and wages of employees, as well as the use of illegal and legal, but morally dubious methods of enrichment - the sale of low-quality or spoiled goods, non-payment of taxes, smuggling, fraud. Russian and European entrepreneurs estimated the methods and practices of Chinese entrepreneurs negatively, and perceived them as dangerous competitors. The Asian influence on Russian entrepreneurial culture was complicated not only by the existence of a religious and cultural boundary between the Chinese and Russians, but also by the European idea of civilizational superiority and the civilizing mission of Europe, which was accepted by the educated society of the Russian Empire and formed the basis for the attitude not only towards aborigine, but also towards Chinese migrants.

The article reveals the views of the outstanding military, statesman and socio-political figure Sultan-Gaza Valikhanov on a wide range of issues of the colonization of Asian spaces by the forces of the Russian Empire. Based on the materials of the anniversary celebrations dedicated to the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the annexation of Siberia to Russia, in the preparation and publication of which G. Valikhanov was directly involved, the main «platforms», channels and ways of broadcasting problematic issues of the incorporation of the eastern outskirts into Russia are identified: the politics of the population, penal colonization, resettlement, enlightenment and education, railway construction. In the course of the study, it was established that the approach chosen by G. Valikhanov to organize the structure of the anniversary edition made it possible to identify the most significant problems that determined the logic of including the eastern outskirts in the general imperial space, and also to present in the final text of the conclusion, according to which the anniversary celebrations dedicated to significant historical events, in particular the annexation of Siberia to Russia, are an effective way of consolidating public and, above all, regional forces, allowing them to show communicative agreement in the discussion of the most pressing Siberian issues by society. he article is about the relations between Russia and Spain in the second half of the 18th century. The article identifies the factors that influenced the nature of the emerging interaction between the powers: it shows the ambivalence of Russian-Spanish relations, on the one hand, due to the growing fears of the Spanish authorities provoked by Russia’s advance towards California, and, on the other, to the development of mutually beneficial trade relations. We draw attention to aspects related to Russia’s discovery of the Aleutian archipelago and Alaska and the activity of Russian merchants. The reaction of the Spanish court to messages of Spanish diplomats in Russia about Russian discoveries in America is shown. The analysis of the texts of diplomatic reports (1761−1792) has shown that the Spanish ambassadors were skeptical about the success of Russian expeditions to the American continent but changed their mind in the second half of 1760s. The article also examines the trade and economic aspect in the relations between the powers, showing the intention of Spain and Russia to establish direct trade. At the same time, we note that the nature of such interaction was influenced by the general political situation, which was determined by the leading powers of that time. The article has been written using historical and philological methods and approaches and aims to show the various aspects and stages of Russian-Spanish relations during the period of colonization of the Northwest of America. The results of the study can be used in practical activities of diplomatic services within the framework of international dialogue.

The article analyzes approaches to creating a chronology of Russia’s exploration of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, highlights historical periods relevant for the main purpose of our research. The goal is to describe the Russian language as a dynamic and integral part of a unique culture formed in the Creole communities, uniting the paternal culture of Russian colonists and the maternal cultures of the indigenous population. This culture lies in the center of social interactions and makes its core. The issue is topical for the present study, since it contributes to our understanding of the phenomena of the interaction of cultures. The Russian period of Alaska is recognized by researchers, both domestic and international, as an important and special epoch in the life of the American state, an epoch which to a great extent determined its history. Alaskan Russian was an intermediary language for the people from the continent and the native speakers of indigenous languages. It was used in communication until the middle of the 20th century. At the moment, the Alaskan Russian language exists as a cultural artifact: to a certain extent, it is known by a few descendants of Creoles of very advanced age. The purpose of this study is to create a historical context of the formation of the Alaskan Russian language and to describe conditions for its uprise and preservation on the territory of Russian America. We show that the existence of permanent functional settlements in which Russian language was spoken – in the family, in the community, and for trade and professional contacts – determined consolidation of the Russian language, in a number of places in Alaska up to the middle of the XX century. The data presented in the article confirm that the Orthodox tradition and the Russian language that have survived to this day are the main features of Russia’s long-term cultural influence in Alaska. The study used both universal scientific methods and special methods of historical research determined by the specifics of the problem, namely: the problem-chronological method, the method of comparative analysis, the systematic method. Exploring the influence of language on social life, the author adheres to the methods of linguistic anthropology and historical anthropology.

The process of the birth of Russian cotton, reflected in the novel “Colonizers” by Boris Cheprunov, a descendant of settlers to the Turkestan region during the period of its conquest by the Russian Empire, is considered. Knowing the life of Central Asia from the inside - its languages, customs and culture, Cheprunov critically comprehends the process of colonization of Central Asia. The work of this writer fell out of the historical and literary process for political reasons; there was a fleeting attempt that did not receive continuation - without analysis, with half-truths, to return to him during the thaw period. The authors of the article do one more thing - to return to the history of literature of the twentieth century the work of a writer who was forcibly erased from the literary process. The purpose of the study is to highlight the theme of Russian cotton in the novel “The Colonizers” by B.V. in modern receptive practice. Cheprunova; objectives of the study: name the personalities and facts of the period of colonization of Central Asia who played a leading role in the birth of Russian cotton growing; highlight the colonialist intentions in Cheprunov’s novel; report the history of the publication of the novel “The Colonizers” and its tragic role in the author’s fate; consider the titles of the novel: one is the author’s, the second is given when the novel was published during the Thaw. The analysis of the article fits into modern Orientalist, or post-Saidian, scientific discourse.

The purpose of the study involves representing the image of the outstanding Siberian public figure N. M. Yadrintsev through textual analysis of necrologies dedicated to him, published in the newspaper “Eastern Review”, 1894. The edition was a great success among the provincial and metropolitan public. The choice of chronological framework is explained by the year of the enlightener’s death. The ongoing research is based on the methodology of “new intellectual and cultural history”, revealing the facets of a historical figure and his ideological heritage in the perception of the worldview of his contemporaries and colleagues. To implement research plans, the theory of historical memory was used. The anthropological approach emphasizing the individual with his way of thinking and characteristic behavioral traits was important for this study. Also, content analysis as a form of historical research was widely used in the work. Such tools made it possible not only to identify the content of written sources, but also to show their social context. The author emphasizes that after the death of N.M. Yadrintsev, many obituary texts were published in memory of the public figure. The work shows that obituary materials reveal N.M. Yadrintsev as a talented journalist, traveler, writer, and expert on the Siberian frontier. In this vein, the social significance of the enlightenment’s heritage is emphasized and his social and professional status is noted.

Since the middle of the 19th century, Russian historians paid great attention to the settlement of the Russian peasantry. Saratov local history experts took the study of this process in the Lower Volga region as one of their main tasks in the last decades of the 19th century. Modern historiography has not noted the importance of their works on the problem of colonization. The content of the papers by the SSAC members and the unpublished monograph by A. N. Minh shows that local historians successfully dealt with the problem, the development of which was carried out in the works of university historians.

The article analyzes the state policy of regulating labor migration during the second half of the 18th to the first half of the 19th centuries. Changes in the settlement and development strategy of the Volga-Caspian fishing region are demonstrated through examples of population groups such as noble landowners, peasants, merchant-fishermen, and industrial workers. The achievements and shortcomings of state-regulated labor migration during the examined period are identified. The article also assesses the normative framework that governed the processes of labor migration in the region, outlines the historical stages of settlement and development in the area, and documents the outcomes and consequences of this process for the future socio-economic development of the Volga-Caspian fishing region. Labor migration is viewed as a tool for the settlement and development of the peripheral territories of the Russian state. Furthermore, various forms of migration were employed by the government during the study period, including noble, monastic, peasant, Cossack, and voluntary migrations. Based on an examination of the collected material, the authors conclude that migration types successfully implemented in other (agricultural) regions of the country, such as noble, peasant, and monastic migrations, were not as productive in the context of the Volga-Caspian fishing region, where the primary economic activity revolved around fishing. The most effective workers for the fishing industry were supplied by the so-called “voluntary migration.” Given that the subject of the study is the state policy of regulating labor migration, the primary sources encompass legislative and normative documents from the second half of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th centuries, as well as materials from central and regional administrative structures preserved in the archives of the Russian State Historical Archive and the State Archive of the Astrakhan Region. A portion of these materials is being introduced into academic discourse for the first time.

The aim of this study is to reconstruct and demonstrate the narrative of the Siberian exile as an unsustainable form of punishment, which was widely represented in the literary and journalistic works of N.M. Yadrintsev, the leader of the Siberian regional movement in the 1870s. The chronological framework used in this study is not coincidental, as it seeks to expand the understanding of the diverse legacy of the “worthy son of Siberia” by examining the topic of exile during the initial period of his career as an enlightener in the 1870s. The study mainly employs published sources, with emphasis on N.M. Yadrintsev's works during the 1870s. Additionally, archival materials from N.M. Yadrintsev's collection in the Department of Manuscripts and Book Monuments of the Scientific Library of Tomsk State University are utilized. This set of sources highlights N.M. Yadrintsev's actual involvement in attempting to reform the penitentiary system in the Russian Empire. The paper notes that N.M. Yadrintsev's journalism reflects the idea that exile, by combining almost all categories of crimes, became a panacea for all ills. Exile was also considered a crucial economic tool, replacing short-term and long-term prisons. The authors conclude that N.M. Yadrintsev's ideological and journalistic legacy, as demonstrated in central and regional periodicals during the 1870s, succinctly showed that exile has no corrective value for criminals. Instead, it contributes to the criminalization of the region and leads to an increase in illegal activity. The state spends too many financial resources on the exile system, and its colonization influence is insignificant.

The article analyzes the situation in Southern Manchuria in the Chinese city of Telin in 1901 as a result of the actions of Luzhansky (Luzhanskiy), a railway technician who served in the CER Society. Luzhansky showed direct violence toward indigenous people and Chinese workers during the laying of the track. The established administrative system of administration in the territory of the CER right‑of-way could not resolve the conflict between the Chinese and Russian subjects. Luzhansky's case could have been regulated by the Tianjin Treaty of 1858 and the 1896 treaty for the construction and operation of the railroad, but the railway technician's actions extended beyond Northern Manchuria. Given that the Luzhansky technician's trial caused a clash of Russian and Chinese jurisdictions, this article examines the formation of the judicial system in the CER right-of-way. Such cases of violations of Chinese rights by Russian railway engineers provoked a discussion between Russian ministers on the issue of organizing a Russian court in Manchuria. The specific case of engineer Luzhansky reflects the colonial behavior and the subject's reaction in frontier territory. This article considers only a local case of the exercise of a special imperial right by a railroad technician and the restriction of his activities as a result of violations of the law, corporate ethics, and the 1898 lease agreement.

Background. Higher rate of gram-negative bloodstream infections (BSI) have been recently documented from transplantation centers providing fluoroquinolone (FQ) prophylaxis.Aim. To define the incidence of BSI during neutropenia according to gut mucosal colonization with resistant gramnegative bacteria and FQ administration.Materials and methods. Of 284 allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant recipients included in the study, 154 (54.2 %) were identified as colonized with resistant gram-negative bacteria, and 130 (45.8 %) patients as non-colonized. Resistant gram-negative bacteria included Enterobacterales with extended spectrum beta-lactamase production, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and carbapenem-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Colonized patients did not receive FQ prophylaxis (n = 147) except 7 patients who received FQ as sequential therapy due to residual inflammatory lung lesions. At the end of the 18th – in the beginning of the 19th century in Crimea there took place significant changes in the ethnic and confessional spheres. The eviction of Christians, the mass emigration of the Crimean Tatars led to a reduction in the population. The Russian authorities have begun to implement measures to settle Novorossia in general and Crimea in particular with colonists from internal provinces and migrants from abroad. One of the main issues in the study of the past of the Jewish communities of Crimea is the problem of transforming the identity of the old-time population. The domestic policy of the Russian government in the “national regions” at the end of the 18th – in the first half of the 19th century greatly complicated interethnic and interfaith relations both between Jewish rabbis and representatives of the “titular” nation of the empire, and between the Karaite and rabbinic communities of Crimea. The Karaites had to prove their difference from the Rabbinical Jews in order to achieve civil and economic preferences. The assistance of the government in many matters allowed the Karaites to strengthen their economic and legal position. The paper analyzes the legislative acts and resolutions adopted by the Russian government in relation to Jewish rabbis and Karaites. In the legal field of the Russian Empire, the Karaites received a new legal status according to which they were granted various rights and freedoms. On the other hand, the tax burden and social oppression against the Jewish population increased.

The article is devoted to the history of the colonization of the historical territory of the Belgorod line on the example of the study of settlements and population. This issue has been increasingly raised in the historiography of recent years. The work is based on a comparative analysis of two fiscal sources: the 1646 census book and the 1716 landrat book. The purpose of the article is to trace the dynamics of the increase or decrease of big and small villages, to analyze the quantitative composition of the local population. The importance of mass sources in the study of economic and social processes is shown separately. It is shown as a percentage how reliable these sources are. The author comes to the conclusion that the development of the vast territories of the Central Chernozem region was largely associated with the construction of military defense structures of the Belgorod line. As a result of comparing two mass sources, namely the census book of 1646 and the landrat book of 1716 of the Voronezh district, one can understand the general specifics of the development of settlements. However, census materials that fulfilled their narrow fiscal goals and objectives are inherently incomplete sources. This is only an auxiliary source, which must be handled with extreme caution.

Objective. To study epidemiology and impact of colonization by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDRGNB) on bloodstream infections (BSI) during allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Materials and Methods. The retrospective study included 288 patients received the first allo-HSCT between 2018 and 2019. The median age was 32 (18–66) years, male – 53% (n = 152). The majority of patients had acute leukemia – 62% (n = 178) and received transplant from matched unrelated – 42% (n = 120) or haploidentical donor – 26% (n = 75). Relapse of underlying disease at the moment of all-HSCT was registered in 23% (n = 66) of patients. Results. Colonization of non-sterile sites before allo-HSCT by at least one MDRGNB was detected in 28% (n = 64). In most cases resistance is due to extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) – 86% (n = 55), while carbapenemases in combination with ESBL were detected in 14% (n = 9) of patients. After allo-HSCT the colonization was significantly higher than before transplantation (n = 161, 56%, p = 0.001), mainly due to carbapenemase- and ESBL-producing bacteria – 73% (n = 118) (p = 0.001). BSI in the early period after transplantation developed in 26% (n = 76), and in 56% (n = 43) was caused by MDRGNB. The etiology of BSI included K. pneumoniae – 51% in mostly cases. The etiology of BSI was the same bacteria that colonized non-sterile sites 2 weeks before the detection bacteria in bloodstream in 69% (n = 30) patients. Colonization by MDRGNB was associated with the development of BSI (p < 0.0001). The 100-day overall survival (OS) after all-HSCT was significantly lower in patients with colonization of non-sterile sites by MDRGNB compared with patients without colonization (60.6% vs 88.2%, p = 0.001). Conclusions. Colonization of MDRGNB after allo-HSCT reached 56%. K. pneumoniae was predominant etiology in both colonization and bloodstream infections. Colonization by MDRGNB was associated with the development of BSI and decreased OS after allo-HSCT.

The article analyzes comprehensive studies of the unique natural and cultural-historical territory on the Middle Volga – Samara Luka and one of the largest landlords in Russia – the Usolsky Patrimony of the Orlovs and Orlov-Davydovs. This example shows the role of historians and modern methods of “local history” in interdisciplinary studying the past of Russian regions, including the processes of the colonization and the development of the South-East of European Russia.

This article analyzes the nature of colonization processes in the European north of Russia in different eras. Special consideration is given to the problematic nature of modern demographic and social processes and their ethno-cultural component. Significant attention is paid to the analysis of the nature of the social and cultural development in the European North in previous eras and to the rethinking of existing interpretations of the process of the socialist industrialization in this area. It is demonstrated that from the standpoint of the general sociological approach, this industrialization cannot be viewed as a process of modernization, and therefore it would be more correct to speak of the next stage of colonization, the penal one. In the late Soviet period, a transition to a new model of the regional development took place. However, this new model presupposed neither the civil integration nor the formation of rooted societies. Strong rooted territorial communities with a clearly defined identity have not formed in the northern republics and oblasts. It is shown that there is an urgent need to form a new model for the development of the European north, using both the resource of cultural heritage and modern approaches to the formation of the industrial and social environment. In addition, the need for a large-scale renewal of the regional political elites as well as the very principles of their formation is becoming more and more obvious. The work uses comparative historical and ethnographic methods, the provisions of migration theory, the statistical and sociological methods (mass polls), as well as political and sociological approaches to understanding social conflict. As for the political science approaches, the article is based on the provisions of rational choice theory.

Relevance. Enterococcus are ubiquitous, and can cause various infections, up to endocarditis. Vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE) infections are difficult and expensive to treat. According to the AMRmap (Online Platform for Analysis of Antimicrobial Resistance Data in Russia) data for 2017–2020, VRE cases were reported in all federal districts of the Russian Federation, with one of the highest VRE rates in St. Petersburg (4.27%, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 2.1–8.6)). But further, larger studies in each region are required. Aims. The study is to identify the epidemiological features of infections/colonization caused by VRE in Saint-Petersburg hospitals in 2017–2020. Materials and methods. A retrospective analysis of the prevalence of VRE isolated from hospital patients (51 hospitals of various profiles) in St. Petersburg for the period from 2017 to 2020 was performed. Results. During the study period, VRE rate was 5.3% (95% CI 5.1–5.6). The highest proportion (11.6%, 95% CI 10.4–13)) and incidence (0.6 per 1000 patients) of VRE was observed in children hospitals, the lowest – in maternity homes 0.5% (95% CI 0.3– 0.7). Throughout the analysis period VRE were detected in clinical specimens of patients from most of the departments. In adult hospitals, the proportion of VREs was significantly higher in oncohematology 14.6% (95% CI 9.6–21.7), neurology 10.8% (95% CI 7.4–15.6), and intensive care units 10.1% (95% CI 9.4–11.0). In 2020, there was a dramatic increase in VREs in neurology, cardiology, and infection departments in adult hospitals. Neonatology and intensive care units in children hospitals had the highest proportion of VRE, 40.7% (95% CI 34–48.3) and 29.8% (95% CI 21.04–40.3), respectively. In departments of other profiles, this rate varied from year to year, which may be related with clusters in hospitals and departments. Sporadic cases were detected in both neonatal and obstetric departments of maternity homes. The most common clinical specimen with isolated VRE was urine; this was characteristic of departments of almost all profiles and for children intensive care patients also VRE was isolated in gastric fluid and feces often. Conclusions. The proportion of VRE isolated from clinical specimens from patients in St. Petersburg hospitals is at an average level compared to other regions of the Russian Federation and other countries. The highest prevalence of VRE was noted in pediatric hospitals. Risk groups are patients of neonatology and intensive care departments in children's hospitals and oncohematology, neurology and intensive care departments in adult hospitals. VRE are most commonly found in the urine of patients. Screening for VRE among patients in at-risk units and contact precautions should be taken to VRE-infected/colonized patients.

Objective. To determine resistant microorganisms carriage, the frequency and etiology of postoperative infectious complications in high-risk infants with congenital heart defects (CHD). Materials and Methods. The retrospective analysis included 489 patients admitted for surgical treatment for CHD. The median age was 0.23 (0–12) months. Swabs were taken from the oropharynx and rectum for microbiological examination no later than 72 hours after admission (a total of 978 samples). The growth of resistant microorganisms (ESBL and/or carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales, resistant non-fermentative Gram-negative bacteria, MRSA and VRE) was recorded. Results. Of 489 patients, 128 (26.2%) were colonized with resistant bacteria. The majority of patients were carriers of ESBL-producers (81.3%), in some cases (24%) with concomitant production of several carbapenemases. The rate of VRE carriage was 21.1%, in 8 cases – in combination with other resistant microorganisms. MRSA was detected in 1.6% of carriers, other multidrug-resistant microorganisms – in 3.9% of carriers. In early postoperative period, 145/489 (29.7%) patients developed infectious complications. The ventilator-associated respiratory tract infections were the most common. In most cases (73.8%) infectious complications were caused by ESBL producers, in 43.9% of cases those microorganisms also produced carbapenemases. Resistant non-fermentative Gram-negative bacteria caused postoperative infections in 4.8% of cases. The rates of MRSA and VRE in infants with infectious complications were 3.4% and 1.4%, respectively. There were no differences in the incidence of infectious complications in colonized and non-colonized patients – 42/128 (32.8%) versus 103/361 (28.5%), respectively (p = 0.6). Postoperative infectious complications were caused by resistant microorganisms in colonized patients significantly more often than in non-colonized patients – 41/42 (97.6%) and 82/103 (79.6%) cases, respectively (p = 0.008). Conclusions. It is confirmed the active process of the introduction of resistant microorganisms into the hospital with the possible development of complications of the corresponding etiology. Gram-negative bacteria with different mechanisms of antibiotic resistance present the greatest problem. In order to manage this process, it is advisable to screen hospitalizing patients with the implementation of the infection control measures.

During the process of development of remote regions of Russian Empire, the state played the most important role, legislatively regulating the resettlement process and penal colonization. Despite the efforts of the state, informal economic practices became the means of adaptation of migrants to the new climatic and social circumstances they were exposed to as a result of migration. The variety of the practices was most vividly manifested during the years of large-scale peasant resettlements to Siberia at the turn of the 19th — 20th c. This phenomenon was reflected in the reports, essays and travel diaries of officials, which supervised the land management matters of the resettlement, which made possible the comparison of informal economic practices in different climatic zones — the taiga and the steppe. The methodological basis of the study is the concept of the informal economy by T. Shanina, which considers the informal practices as a universal restorative mechanism that makes it possible to “soften” the most acute social and economic contradictions. That mechanism provides survival in such conditions when other social mechanisms fail. The resettlement households of the taiga regions were characterized by primitive methods of deforestation and felling for sale to the steppe districts, which prompted chances in the nature of urmans. As a consequence of the informal economic behavior of late settlers in the areas with abundant forests, the building density of homesteads became high, which resulted in that even newly formed settlements appeared as solid wooden walls. Such dense building development contradicted the directives of the resettlement officials, which appealed to the building statute regulations. In the southern steppe regions of Western Siberia, the settlers used land holdings on the basis of a seizure right using shifting cultivation system and seeding the fields mainly with wheat without applying crop rotation. In the settlements located at the bitter-salt lakes, hydraulic engineering works were carried out. However, the late settlers ignored such improvements; they denied the suitability of the filters, did not monitor their condition, and even contributed to the pollution of the water reservoirs arranged for drinking. The adaptive result of the informal practices is the increased stability of the peasant economy. Depending on the yields, the new settlers was able to transfer the center of economic operations to and survive difficult times. The development of promysels saved peasant families from hunger and financial collapse, yet contributed to the spread of non-progressive, backward forms of land and resource use, which were based on extensive agriculture and a predatory attitude towards nature.

Komi-Permians are the indigenous population of the Perm Kama region. Their traditional drinks include kvass, home brew, beer, moonshine, and herbal teas, made at home from local agricultural products and wild plants. The main purpose of the article is to describe changes in the customs of production and consumption of beverages by the Komi-Permians over the past century and to identify factors that contribute to the maintenance of traditions or the spread of innovations. The study is based on historical and ethnographic methods and the results of research by Russian scientists in the field of exploring the gastronomic culture, traditional cuisine of ethnic groups and the history of their nutrition. Traditional beverages are considered as an element of the food culture of the people and as an ethno-marking feature in the context of household, social and economic development and intercultural interaction. Publications of the 20th c. and modern data indicate a steady commitment of the people to traditional types of drinks until almost the end of the 20th c. Changes in living conditions led to transformations that began to occur most intensively at the end of the last century. Transformations were primarily associated with the inclusion of purchased products into the diet and the expansion of the raw materials base; there also was a slight modification of traditional technologies and conditions for the production of beverages. The sustainability or change of folk traditions is determined by the availability of resources and tools for making drinks, taste preferences, and socio-economic conditions. The changes affected the system of transmitting of folk recipes, and the techniques of practical development of technologies. Presently, special ritual and event practices can be distinguished, in which traditional drinks are still preferred, and the custom of serving folk drinks at official and social events is being developed. Traditional beverages started to play a new role in maintaining the ethnic identity of the Komi-Permians and the representation of folk culture.

The archaeological data obtained during excavations in recent decades allow to fix a new approach to the study of the original layout of the Greek apoikiai of the Northern Black Sea region in the Archaic period. In the process of their urbanization a number of common features can be discerned. At its initial stages, many of these settlements were built up according to a single plan; urban development was regulated. This regulation resulted to the emergence of city grid having a general orientation with some variations caused by the topography or the shape of the coastline. However, in no case these “pre-Hippodamian” grids were strictly orthogonal. The number of houses constituting the insula as well as the internal area of insulae greatly varied. Apparently, the egalitarian principles (isonomia) were not strictly followed when founding new city and during the plots’ division by the first generation of settlers. The axial element of Olbia’s planning grid was the wide Main Street. Residential blocks shapes as well as the location of three temenoi and agora corresponded with its direction and turns. However, such an urban planning principle has not been identified in any of the other archaic urban centers of the region, including the neighboring Berezan settlement.

The article reconstructs individual characteristics of the subjects of the initial colonization of Siberia and the Far East and episodes of their advance to new lands. The main methodological approach of the research is the principle of historicism, as well as the principle of “activity constitutes”, widespread in psychological science, according to which identical activities and external conditions should give rise to similar worldview systems. On the basis of this premise, the possibility of judgments by analogy is substantiated in relation to the motives and goals of the first colonizers of Siberia based on the materials of the development of the Far East by the Russians. On the basis of materials of personal origin, the author examines the strategies of legitimizing individual actions of the pioneers through forcing the factor of external threat, as well as using the idea of “state good”. The colonialists use these arguments as a justification for their own actions in the east. At the same time, the acts of colonization undertaken by them have an adventurous connotation characterized by actions with a pronounced emotional component of the decisions made. The problems of relations with aborigines are considered separately. It is concluded that the idea of “peaceful peasant colonization”, which has a civilizing significance for the local population is untenable, as well as the conventionality of the transition of the aborigines under the authority of the Moscow government, which is fully realized by the pioneers.

The paper features a historiographical study of the ethnic-cultural relations of the Perm Cis-Urals with Ancient Russia in the works by the specialists of the Perm State Humanitarian and Pedagogical University. In a relatively short period of time, the academic staff of the Pedagogical University made a signifi cant contribution to the development of this topic. The lower limit in the dating of the process of ancient Russian colonization was identified, the serious role of Volga Bolgaria in the process of penetration of imported items to the territory of the Cis-Urals was proved, and the opinion on the ways of distribution of Ancient Russian items was also strengthened by means of archaeological data. A very important assumption was made about the forms of earlier penetration of the Ancient Russian population. It was proven that amber was imported to the territory of the Permian Urals from Baltic states, and the origins of the economic and cultural type of the Urals were established.

The resettlement of foreign colonists to Russia in the era of Catherine II was carried out in accordance with the Manifesto published in 1763 and contracts with foreigners concluded on its basis. Sources, examples and patterns for creation of legal and normative foundation of Russian colonization were presented by information about the similar experience of reception of settlers in other European states as well as by projects and suggestions for attracting immigrants written by foreigners. Since the beginning of the 1750s, with the active participation of Russian diplomatic representatives abroad, the Collegium of Foreign Affairs collected a complex of materials on British, Danish, Dutch immigration policy during the last quarter of the 17th - first half of the 18th century. Foreigners who were in the empire at that time (including those on state service), as well as professional recruiters specially hired for “colonist affairs” and intermediaries from potential settlers, presented their own projects of colonization to the Russian government. European manifestos and “privileges”, projects and memorials of private persons - foreigners, which were analyzed during the research, demonstrate that foreign experience was took into account and adopted by the authors of the Manifesto 1763. At the same time, the rights and privileges granted to the colonists by the Catherine’s government turned out to be broader and more legally stable. With all the reservations about the imperfections of mass contracts, in general, the position of immigrants in Russia of this period can be considered quite advantageous, in any case, it was declared this way at the level of legislative acts and administrative orders.

The study of dynamics, directions and driving forces of migration processes in Russia during the Modern Time is a relevant theme included in the wide European context. The paper considers colonization policy of Catherine II from the position of the theory of human capital, studying of labour migration and development of the international labour market. Based on the analysis of the office documents of the Chancellery of Guardianship of foreigners under Senate as well as of letters and reports of Russian diplomatic representatives abroad, the article reveals the main positions of European states towards the distribution of Catherine’s Manifesto of 1763 about the attraction foreigners to Russia and to the realization of colonization project. The author concludes that during the development and implementation of Russian immigration policy of 1760s the Western European patterns, models and methods of attracting foreigners were widely used. The paper reveals the reasons of the negative attitude of the governments of a number of European countries to resettlement of their subjects to the Russian Empire. In particular, the authorities of small German principalities feared the outflow of residents, especially qualified workers, that became extremely tangible after the end of the Seven Years’ War. Austria recruited colonists for Hungary and therefore competed with Russia; in France and Prussia the publication of Russian Manifestos on call of foreigners was totally forbidden. In these conditions extreme importance was given to the actions of Russian diplomatic agents, settling conflicts and secretly persuading foreigners, as well as to agitation activities of the so called “private recruiters”, who although used more rough methods, but succeeded greatly in recruitment of colonists.

The article discusses the process of formation of the main behavioral patterns of the population of the southern counties during the period of the settlement in and development of the South of Russia in the 17th century. The authors analyze the behavior of migrants to the steppe periphery of the country, on the basis of large archival source. An important place in the development of steppe territories was occupied by fortresses, which were military, political and religious centers for the counties. The strong influence of collectivist principles is noted in the article. Particular attention is paid to studying the dynamics of changes in the social environment in the South of Russia, the formation of property stratification, the emergence of individualism. It is argued in the paper that social changes were associated with shifts in the behavioral models of the inhabitants of the fortresses: if at the early stage of its existence the population of the towns consisted of a single mass of the servicemen, then the second half of the 17th century is characterized by a gradual destruction of social cohesion. The behavioral models of servants and townspeople were determined by the desire for personal gain, material wealth, and individual benefits. This was due to the increase in the number and importance of townspeople, whose lives were a constant competition. Discovered shifts of behavioral patterns are indicative of important changes in society.

This review article summarizes current understanding of the microbiota development in neonatal mammals based on the results of modern experimental studies in animals focusing on three aspects: initial colonization, microbiota effect on the immune function of the developing newborn animal intestine and external factors influencing the microbiome shaping during the juvenile period. The presented study results confirm that the microbial landscape correction is the most important factor for animal health improvement since healthy microflora contributes to the intestinal infection frequency and intensity reduction, and this, in turn, minimizes the use of antibiotics. The microbiome is known to have an impact on the immune system development, metabolic processes and even on the ethology, so an atypical microbial population can cause immune and metabolic disorders. The active interaction between microorganisms and the host organism begins already at birth. Even different modes of delivery (caesarean or vaginal delivery) may determine the initial colonization of the newborn. The animal genetics, nutrition and environment also influence the intestinal microbiota development. In this regard, further studies of probiotics are important to understand their efficacy for diarrhea prevention and treatment, their use as an alternative to antibiotics as well as for enhancement of the animal resistance to stress factors.

The article reviews the initial period of European colonization of the North Pacific Ocean and California within the context of diplomatic relations between Russia and Spain during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It tries to understand the policies of European powers in the American Northwest and the reasons for pursuing their colonial interests there. It analyses the history of exploration of these territories, expeditions to the northern part of the Pacific Ocean, and historical maps of this region. For the first time in Russian historiography the authors touch upon the exploration of California in the 18th century.The exploration of the North Pacific Ocean, the northwestern American coast, including certain areas of California, Alaska and the Aleutian Islands has long attracted the attention of European powers. It was a process in which government authorities and private merchant companies took part. The expansion of the Spanish Empire into California was made possible in part because of the concerns of the Madrid court about the strengthening of the Russian and British empires in the North Pacific Ocean. The Spanish documents from the archives of Madrid, Seville and Simancas – the article introduces them into research communication the first time - show the validity of the fears of the Madrid court regarding the inevitable development of Russian colonization in the region. The advance of Russia to the shores of America has economic reasons: Cossacks and merchants reached the Pacific Ocean pursuing the desire to profit from the fur trade. As the economic influence expanded, the state interests of annexing territories and bringing the local population into citizenship followed behind. The territorial advance of the Russians to the Pacific Ocean was facilitated by the ambitious, but at the same time balanced diplomacy of Peter I, which managed to ensure the expansion of the borders of the Russian Empire.Spanish consolidation in certain territories in California was aimed at a possible containment of the Russian advance. Russian-Spanish relations in the Northwest Pacific at the end of the 17th – 18th centuries contributed to the nature of the subsequent development of territories in the North Pacific Ocean.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalent path of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Enterobacteriaceae transmission in hematological patients. Methods. Prospective study was performed from 2013 to 2015 and included cases of bacteremia caused by Enterobacteriaceae. Rectal swabs were taken within the first three days after positive blood culture. ESBL-production was confirmed by phenotypic tests. The genes of blaTEM, blaSHV and blaCTX-M were determined by PCR. Genotyping was performed by ERIC-PCR. Results. A total of 91 enterobacteria isolates (56% - E.coli, 26% - K.pneumoniae, 18% - other) derived from blood were obtained in 89 cases of bacteremia in 82 patients (median age - 50 years). Production of ESBL was found in 19 (21%) isolates (E.coli - n=11, K.pneumoniae n=8). Beta-lactamase CTX-M type was identified in 95% of isolates. Colonization of gut with the same species was detected in all 19 episodes of bacteremia caused by ESBL positive isolates and only in 8 (11%) of 72 episodes of bacteremia caused ESBL-negative isolates (P

History of colonies under the rule of Japanese Empire in the first half of the 20th century has not been explored well enough so far. For example, history of Karafuto governorate “(1905-1945), which existed in the southern part of Sakhalin, is barely covered while some aspects of its history are not known at all. This article focuses on history of formation and socio-economic structure of Karafuto governorate — such as territorial development after the Russo-Japanese war, its role and status in the colonial system of Japan, the use of the main economic resources of the island and creation of socio-cultural space along with the memorialization of the colonial past of the northern borders of Japanese Empire. Besides that, in this article author highlights the process of liquidation of the governorate (it started after accession of the southern part of Sakhalin to the USSR territory after the Second World War) followed by passing the governance on to the soviet administration, co-residence of Soviet and Japanese people on the same territory during 1945–1948, along with deportation of Japanese people and fate of Korean population of the island. The article gives the examples of preservation of memory of Japanese presence on Sakhalin Island in both modern Japan and Russia.
