The objective of the present work was to study the wound-healing potential of the new preparation, Extramin (a 32% ethanol extract of organic substances from Novonukutskaya mineral water) in a series of experiments on a model of chemical burns in rabbits. The wound healing process was monitored based on biochemical, hematiological, and morphological indicators. Analysis of the results allows for the conclusion that Extramin is a powerful stimulator of the wound-healing processes and can be recommended for further clinical studies.

Fecal incontinence in children after surgical correction of anorectal defects and trauma of the holding apparatus of the rectum in certain cases can be dependent on low basal pressure in the anal canal at the expense of incompetence of the interior sphincter muscle of the anus. In order to eliminate low pressure in the anal canal we introduced polyacrylamide gel "DAM +" into its submucous layer. The introduction of this volume-forming substance into the anal canal was an effective procedure. Fecal incontinence became less in all cases, and completely regressed in 50% of the patients.

The aim of the present work was to evaluate clinical efficacy of the biospecific hemosorbent "Liposorb". The main component of "Liposorb" is polyacrylamide gel containing an immobilized affine ligand (antibiotic polymyxin E-colistyne). 40 patients with abdominal sepsis and peritonitis of different genesis underwent a total of 52 seances of vein-venous extracorporeal hemoperfusion of hemosorbent "Liposorb". Endotoxin level (lipopolysaccharide - LPS) was measured by the turbodimetric method. Blood perfusion through a "Liposorb" column at 50-70 ml/min during 90 minutes permitted to reach stabilization of parameters of systemic hemodynamics. All the patients showed positive dynamics of general well-being, blood gas composition, clinical and biochemical blood analyses. The endotoxin (LPS) level of Gramm-negative flora significantly decreased. It is concluded that hemosorbtion using biospecific polymyxin-containing hemosorbent "Liposorb" effectively removes Gramm-negative endotoxin and leads to stabilization of hemodynamic in patients with Gramm-negative abdominal sepsis.

Time course of healing of standard osseous defects by introduction of polyacrylamide gel (PAG)-based materials was studied in rat experiments. PAG did not prevent the formation of soft-tissue and osseous regenerate in bone defects. Addition of hydroxyapatite, bactericidal agent, and lysozyme to PAG-based composition led in some cases to development of chronic inflammation and giant-cell reaction in osseous wound and to inhibition of the reparative processes.

Polyacrylamide hydrogel was used in contour plastic repair of maxillofacial soft tissues in 161 female patients. The remote results (up to 2 years after the manipulation) demonstrate the advantages of this method over traditional surgery. Biogel preserves the natural appearance of soft tissues of the face; the clinical effect is stable.

The study investigated a stimulating effect of tris-[2-hydroxyethyl] ammonium salt of iron-containing polyacryl acid on proliferative processes in the connective tissue in development of experimental gastric ulcer. The drug was found to exhibit an ulcerostatic effect, to change the levels of collagen, noncollagen proteins, glycosaminoglycan fractions, DNA and RNA.

The data of the preclinical and clinical study of feracryl, a local hemostatic, are presented. The drug's hemostatic activity, acute, subacute and chronic toxicity, anesthetic effect as well as antibacterial and antifungal activities were studied. The results of the clinical trial of the drug are given.

The new antiprotease hemosorbent Ovosorb was tested during the performance of blood perfusion (BP) used as part of multimodality treatment of 11 patients. Of these, 2 presented with disseminated psoriasis, 3 with arthropathic psoriasis, 1 with psoriatic erythrodermia, 4 with atopic dermatitis, and 1 with recurrent urticaria. BP with the use of the hemosorbent Ovosorb produced the highest effect in patients with atopic dermatitis, psoriatic erythrodermia and recurrent urticaria; BP with Ovosorb was less effective in disseminated psoriasis. The clinical effect was lacking in patients with arthropathic psoriasis. Ovosorb possesses remarkable detoxifying properties, good blood compatibility; it does not provoke any complications in patients with different forms of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria.

The purpose of the experiment was study of the effect of hemosorption with the polymer sorbent PP-PAA (polypropylene-polyacrylic acid) on some hemodynamic values and level of metabolites in the blood of animals with acute hepatic failure. It was found that in perfusing blood through this sorbent there is practically no loss of total protein, the level of the studied metabolites in the blood reduces considerably, and the hepatic blood flow improves.

In this work the effectiveness of complex immunotherapy, including specific inhalation hyposensitization with the introduction of artificial synthetic polyelectrolite, was studied. Specific allergen produced a good effect (75%) in the inhalation hyposensitization of hemophilic allergy. The intramuscular injection of artificial synthetic polyelectrolite, made in addition to the inhalation of allergen, produced a better desensitizing effect than the separate administration of allergen or polyelectrolite. The multiple administration of polyelectrolite produced a desensitizing effect on allergic reactions of type I with the tendency towards the decrease of reactions of type IV. Good prospects for the development of methods for special treatment with homologous allergen in combination with NA-5 in cases of microbial sensitization under the control of immunocompetent cells were shown.

Investigation of microflora in patients with complicated acute cholecystitis treated with low frequency ultrasound in combination with sulfacrylate glue showed that Staphylococcus and Escherichia played the leading role in the complication etiology. Among the nonsporulating organisms bacteroides predominated. The combined use of low frequency ultrasound and sulfacrylate glue in treatment of complicated acute cholecystitis proved to be an efficient procedure providing more rapid sanation of the purulent inflammation foci.

The results of endoscopic administration of hemostatic agents feracryl and Amifer in 147 cases are analysed. In 123 patients 5-10 ml of 1% feracryl were administered after endobronchial bioptic manipulations. Bleeding after collection of bioptic material from the bronchial mucosa was arrested by this method in 69 cases. Moderate bleeding in 42 cases was arrested by pressing to the wound surface a tampon saturated with a feracryl solution. Endoscopic occlusion of a bleeding bronchus by means of feracryl and Amifer was conducted in 16 patients with various forms of lung tuberculosis complicated by hemoptysis and pulmonary hemorrhage. In 9 cases with massive pulmonary hemorrhage 3-4 ml of 20% Amifer solution was administered by endobronchial route into the bleeding area. In 7 cases up to 10 ml of feracryl was introducedby ++endobronchial route. Temporary endoscopic hemostasis in patients with various forms of pulmonary tuberculosis made it possible to postpone an emergency operation for a period of up to 2 weeks in all cases. For the prevention of aspiration pneumonia the bronchi were repeatedly cleansed in 8 patients and therapeutic lavage of the bronchi was carried out in 7 patients.

In the experiment, it was established that hemosorption by means of fibrous polymeric sorbent led to reduction in the concentration of the toxic products of metabolism in the blood, normalization of cardiohemodynamics. Practically, there were no losses of total protein, and a certain concentration of hormones in the blood retained.

The 18-years experience of the clinic is presented with diagnosis and curative tactics for the Mallory-Weiss syndrome which was observed in 65 (4.7%) of 1392 patients with acute gastroduodenal hemorrhages. Urgent esophagogastroduodenoscopy has improved diagnostics during the recent 5 years which resulted in 10% increased diagnosing of the Mallory-Weiss syndrome in gastroduodenal hemorrhage from the total amount of such patients. Before introducing of endoscopic hemostasis with Ferakryl into clinic 4 of 24 patients were operated on and 20 patients were treated by conservative hemostatic methods. Four patients died: 2 after operations and 2 after the conservative treatment. Complex conservative treatment with curative endoscopy and Ferakryl used in the clinic during the recent 2.5 years resulted in stable hemostasis in all the 41 patients without lethal outcomes.

In experiments on 126 rabbits and 156 guinea pigs, a study was made of specific activity, subacute and chronic toxicity of a new hemostatic feracryl-based plaster. The data obtained indicate a pronounced and stable hemostatic activity of the plaster in different types of wounds demonstrated in two species of animals, including hypocoagulation state. The plaster exerts no local irritative, resorptive toxic effect on tissues and possesses no allergenic properties.

The paper deals with the carcinostatic and immunomodifying action of synthetic polyelectrolytes containing acid and basic groups as well as of polyampholytes and nonionogenic polymers. Polyacrylic acid was found to possess the highest antitumour and adjuvant activity. The antitumour effect of polyacrylic acid increases with its molecular mass. Introduction of other polymers into a polymer chain of acrylic acid results in a decrease in its antitumour and immunoadjuvant action.

A study was made of the radioprotective effect of polyanion, a co-polymer of maleic and methacrylic acids, administered separately and in a combination with adeturon to irradiated (8 Gy, LD100/18) H male mice. Adeturon (300 mg/kg) was injected 15 min before, and polyanion (4 mg/kg) 24 h after gamma-irradiation. The effect of the preparations was assessed by the survival rate and hematologic indices (for instance, weight and cellularity of the spleen, bone marrow cellularity, and the number of leukocytes) at defined intervals within 30 days. Adeturon exerted a pronounced protective effect on the haemopoietic system of lethally exposed mice. The therapeutic effect of polyanion applied in a combination with adeturon was not enhanced and did not modify the effect of the latter.
