The predictive value of vascular biomarkers such as pulse wave velocity (PWV), central arterial pressure (CAP), and augmentation index (AIx), obtained through pulse wave analysis (PWA) in resting conditions, has been documented in a variety of patient groups and populations. There are appropriate recommendations on their clinical use in clinical practice guidelines of various scientific societies. Operator-independent methods are currently available for estimating vascular biomarkers also in ambulatory conditions. The acceptable accuracy and reproducibility of ambulatory PWA makes it be a promising tool for evaluating vascular biomarkers in daily-life conditions. This approach may provide an opportunity to further improve the early cardiovascular screening in subjects at risk. However, there is no sufficient evidence to support the routine clinical use of PWA in ambulatory conditions at the moment. In particular, long-term outcome studies are needed to show the predictive value of ambulatory PWV, CAP and AIx values.

The author considers the significance of teaching post-graduate students the module of written scientific communication to avoid problems facing them in future publishing career. The notion ‘academic writing’ is interpreted as the key to realizing national differences in intercultural written interaction. The author highlights the inevitable interference of the English scientific language and the native language of a researcher, the international part of a modern academic paper being English as lingua franca. Typology of cultures helps to explain possible misunderstanding in reading academic papers. Linguistico-culturological analysis of several scientific articles written in English by investigators from various countries allows the author to conclude that any researcher writes in English under unconscious domination of his national features.

The study analyzes the doctrinal content of Vyacheslav Ivanov’s paper “The Meaning of the Word ‘Earth’ in the Gospels”, as well as the network of contexts (textual, ideological, biographical) in which it was created. It is noted that Ivanov’s paper is not in the strict sense a philological or theological study of the meaning of the lexeme “earth” in the Gospels, and Ivanov’s thesis concerning the centrality of the “question of earth” for Christianity find no support in Christian dogmatics. Presuppositions from which Ivanov’s reasoning starts are discussed: he postulates the existence of different degrees of initiation into mystical mysteries and recognizes esoteric revelations unknown to the “outer” church. It is demonstrated how the concepts of Merezhkovsky and his mysticism of sex are combined in Ivanov’s paper with the interpretation of the Gospel of John. It is shown that among the sources of Ivanov’s exegetical schemes there are occult mythologems and interpretations of the Gospel of John, borrowed from R. Steiner. The contrast between the doctrinally heterogeneous content of the paper and the deliberately traditional form of its presentation is pointed out. It is demonstrated that certain mythologems created by Ivanov are plot invariants externalized in different forms in his other texts. To clarify the concepts underlying Ivanov’s exegetical reasoning, the topics discussed are analyzed in the context of his other writings, drawing on evidence from correspondence, memoirs, records of oral conversations.

The most common method of controlling the motor oil detergent-dispersant properties is the «drop sample» method (the applying process of the engine oil drop to the filter paper -»blue tape» and the calculating process of the drop sample with an oil stain characteristics). The characteristic zones’ size and the entire oil stain depends on the engine oil condition, but the amount of applied engine oil is affected to the large extent by the size of the oil stain. The stability of the oil droplet mass increases the monitoring accuracy of the engine oil. The article clarifies how much the motor oil droplet mass varies when applied by the same way. The simple and low-cost products are used to apply the motor oil drop. The evaluation is carried out by measuring the certain number of drops masses on high-precision scales. The errors which occur when the engine oil drop is applied to the filter paper-»blue tape» and their influence on the final result are estimated. The conclusions about the significance of the motor oil droplet mass changing which could influence on the characteristic zones’ size of the drop sample are made.

The relevance. The waste of Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill causes a real danger of a social and environmental disaster for Lake Baikal and the entire Southern Baikal region, therefore, the problem of developing integrated solutions for dumping the accumulation of lignincontaining waste is especially acute. One of the promising areas for processing this type of waste is the use of natural processes, for example, freezing in winter, temperature detection or self-overgrowth of the occurrence of natural succession. The main aim of the research is to develop an environmentally friendly technology for processing colloidal lignin-containing waste from the pulp and paper industry. Methods: pilot tests at the Solzan industrial site of Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill for freezing lignin-containing wastes and obtaining soils from them by mixing with additives; performing quantitative chemical analysis using the methods of atomic absorption and atomic emission spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography, toxicological analysis. Results. Pilot tests have shown that after freezing, the colloidal structure of lignin-containing sediments is destroyed with a decrease in volume up to 40 %, humidity up to 60 %, and also with a decrease in toxicity - from the third (moderately hazardous) to the fourth (low hazardous) and fifth class (practically non-hazardous) of hazard of the waste depending on its composition. After freezing, the resulting sludge with the introduction of various additives (CHP ash, sewage treatment plant sludge) can be used as soil ground and fertilizers for reclamation of disturbed lands and crops. Thus, an environmentally friendly technology was developed for processing waste from the pulp and paper industry to obtain soil ground, which is low-energy and does not contain expensive imported equipment.

The aging of paper-oil insulation is determined by changing the value of its degree of polymerization. Used today ways to assess the degree of polymerization of paper-oil insulation of high voltage equipment has the following disadvantages: labor input and long-time produce a result, the high cost analysis, environmental pressures, the complexity and high cost of automation. We propose a method of estimating the degree of polymerization of the paper insulation implemented by measuring the reflectance of paper in the visible wavelength range, taking into account the effect of transformer oil.

The paper presents a panorama of European Quality Assurance Forums (EQAF) and their topical focus. The authors give their opinion that for the purposes of academic communication we need to develop a glossary completely reflecting theoretical, conceptual, methodological and practical wealth in this area. While addressing topics within the whole “perimeter” of all forums held, the paper focuses mainly on the selected materials of the eighth EQAF. The authors consider issues concerning the defining of the concept of “higher education quality” and developing the institutional quality culture. The paper dwells on the barriers to European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG) implementation. Attention is given to accreditation processes, especially to the balance between “accountability” and “enhancement”. The paper also touches upon the issues of criteria validity and the indicators for higher education quality.

The recycling of wood processing waste generated at pulp and paper and woodworking enterprises by reusing it in obtaining a high-yield semi-finished product for the production of paper and cardboard has been studied. The economic and environmental feasibility of wood waste recovery is beyond doubt. The aim has been to develop technology and modes for recycling wood waste from the production of high-yield pulp (birch sawdust) and woodworking (coniferous and the mix of coniferous and deciduous chips). In the course of the study, high-yield pulp has been obtained from birch sawdust using continuous technology (at Perm Pulp and Paper Company) and batch technology (at most pulp and paper industry enterprises). Cooking of wood chips has been carried out only using batch technology. It is shown that the recycling of birch sawdust to produce a fibrous semi-finished product for use in the production of paper and cardboard solves an important economic problem of the pulp and paper industry, which is the need to reduce the consumption of pulpwood and preserve forest resources. The process of recycling wood waste does not require changes to current technology. This produces high-yield pulp, which in terms of quality is not inferior to a similar semi-finished product made from birch technological chips and meets the enterprise standards. It has been revealed that wood chips from coniferous and deciduous wood from woodworking enterprises can also be used as a raw material for the production of high-yield pulp, but only together with sawdust from birch wood. High-yield pulp from the chips of coniferous and the mix of coniferous and deciduous wood is obtained with increased yield, but with low mechanical strength, since the neutral-sulfite method is intended for the production of a fibrous semi-finished product only from deciduous wood; coniferous wood is not boiled using this method. High-yield pulp with quality indicators corresponding to the enterprise standards from technological chips is produced by the ratios of chips and sawdust of 50:50 and 70:30. The yield of the semi-finished product from the raw materials of all used compositions is high – 75…82 %. Tests of high-yield pulp obtained from birch sawdust have shown that the fibrous semi-finished product can replace 20 % of the MS-5B waste paper mass in production in the production of paper and cardboard compositions.

The article considers the translations of W. Thackeray’s parody Yellowplush Papers published in the journal Biblioteka dlya Chtenia (The Reader’s Library) in 1854 and 1860 as an example of intertextual interaction between the original and the translated texts. The parody was written in the genre of silver-fork novel, which was rather popular in the English literature of the 1820s and 1830s.The genre was of interest for both Russian writers and translators at different stages of literary development (secular novellas of the 1820s and 1830s, translations of certain Western fashionable novels of the 1850s and 1860s and the Russian fashionable novel of the 1870–1880s). Thus, the translations of Thackeray’s parody under analysis can be treated as a certain stage of development of the given genre in the Russian culture. The analysis of some fragments has revealed the attempts of the Russian translators, on the one hand, to render the artistic peculiarities of Thackeray’s parody to Russian readers, including its intertextuality, which was achieved in different ways (by using colloquialisms, translating the author’s references to foreign culture realities, rendering the author’s irony, and using techniques similar to the original ones). On the other hand, the translators’ desire to ‘incorporate’ the text into Russian literature is quite obvious for them. They try to make the text understandable for the Russian readers, which is evident due to numerous allusions to the texts of the Russian culture, reduction of specific fragments, inclusion of translator’s remarks, and interpretation of the parody finale. The translators targeted both the existing parody samples of Russian literature and the unique specificity of the original. Evidently, these translation techniques met the readers’ expectations and corresponded to the requirements of the Russian translation culture. Thus, the question asked in the title is impossible to be answered unambiguously. The elements of parody are closely connected with both the cultural traditions of the source language and with the references to fashionable novel which was accepted by the popular literature and was not developed in the Russian culture of the 19th century. So the works of this genre, to say nothing of its parodies, could not be rendered without losses into a target language.

GOST 26493–85 regulates parameters of vibration of equipment of pulp-and-paper manufactures. However this standard is obsolete, does not take into account modern designs of the process equipment and requirement of new state and international standards. In article attempt of normalization and monitoring of vibration of the process equipment is made in view of modern requirements. It is established two criteria of an estimation of vibrating condition of equipment. The first criterion normalizes average quadratic value of amplitude of vibration in octave strips of frequencies, on second – trend of amplitude of vibration on the general level. As an example normalization and monitoring of vibration of mills is considered. Necessity of division to constructive attribute on two groups is revealed. Numerical borders of zones and trend of vibration of mills are determined. The vibrating condition is estimated by four criteria: well; satisfactory; improvement is necessary and is inadmissible. Then it is made decision on possible restriction of the form of functioning of the equipment (the prevention or stop). Introduction of norms and monitoring of vibration of the equipment will speed up transition to repairs on a technical condition. Methods of normalization and monitoring of vibration of the process equipment can be applied in other industries.

A novel coronavirus infection SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19) is especially dangerous for elderly and senile patients. Preventive measures for elderly people should cover three areas: 1) direct prevention of the viral infection, 2) preservation of the functional status and prevention of geriatric syndromes, including the use of social support measures, 3) control of comorbidities. The clinical pattern of COVID-19 in older patients may be atypical, while the mildness of symptoms (no fever, cough, shortness of breath) may not correspond to the severity of the prognosis. Delirium may be the first manifestation of COVID-19, which requires special care in its screening. Management of elderly and senile patients with COVID19 should include measures for delirium prevention, the detection and improvement of nutrition. The risk of malnutrition with sarcopenia increases with hospitalization of a patient, especially when using artificial ventilation, is associated with an unfavorable prognosis during hospitalization, accelerates the progression of senile asthenia and reduces the quality of life. Geriatric assessment is the cornerstone of determining the management of an elderly patient.

The proposed three-paper series is the authors' attempt to address at least tangentially the whole diversity of quality assurance practices in higher education, the way this diversity has been dynamically manifested and comprehended at the eleven European Quality Assurance Forums (2006-2016). Of course, the authors' intention is to reflect this collective conceptual and methodological activity in the context of the Bologna Process, which obviously has already gone through an optimistic round of its first decade and entered into a contradictory, multi-speed and multilevel reality of transition to the institutional level of reforms. The first article deals with some issues of the current stage of Bolognatransformations amid financial, economic and demographic crisis. The authors briefly touch upon a great potential of Russian higher education, which in late 20 century - early 21st century they described as "Russian pre-Bologna".
